i have just installed a new exchange 2003 into my existing exchange 2000
structure, i have moved my mailbox and this went fine, can connect to my
emails no problem

sent a test email to one of my colleagues, they get it fine, but i do not
get a reply back from them when they answer the email.

i have not added anything else into the mix, not changed anything else,
connectors etc

i can see my logon, mailbox etc under the new server in the esm

Hi,

Enable message tracking and see where the messages goes.

You don't see anything in the queues on the ex2000 server?

Hi,

Which server was this queue on (old or new server?)

Is there a smart-host configured on a SMTP virtuel server on the old server?

it was on the old server,
the smarthost is the ip address of the old server 10.0.1.8
the new servers ip address is 10.0.1.7

under routing groups my old server has Forward all mail through this
connector to the following smarthosts set to go to my firewall

any advice here would be really helpful at the moment

thanks again

Hi,

The question is if the smart-host is configured on the SMTP virtuel server
of the old server. If this is the case it is the problem. Smart-host should
always be configured on a SM;TP connector.

See this - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=555366

Smarthost settings apply to outgoing mail, not incoming.
