    - Exchange Search Indexer problem Hello, we have an Exchange server that I upgraded from 2k3 to 2k7 by using a temporary 2k7 server using the following process: 1. I installed Ex2k7 on an extra server in the domain and migrated Ex2k3 to it. 2. I installed Win2k3 64 bit clean & Ex2k7 on the original Exchange server. 3. Then I migrated Ex2k7 from the extra Ex2k7 server to the new Ex2k7 server. 4.     - Change display name Hello, Currently we're hosting 4 domains. To keep everything organized I've added the location name to the users' display name. Example: LOC1_Bob Smith, LOC2_Tom Smith. This is something we want to show in the users' To: box when using outlook. The drawback is when emails are sent to the "outside" those recipients see that display name too.     - Removing the old and brining in the New Exchange. I am planning to rebuild my domain network. We have 1 Exchange 2000 server running on Server 2000 standard edition. I must install new servers with Server 2003 on them. I want to install EXch 2003 on one of the new machines. I do not and can not upgrade my old servers.     - Problem with new exchange BE server I recently added a new exchange BE server (EXCHANGE2) We currently have 1 FE (EXCHANGER1) server and a 1 BE (EXCHANGE1). I moved a couple of mailboxes to our new exchange server with no problems. Users on the new exchange server can send and receive email from the outside and inside. We have OWA and OMA up and running before the new exchange sever was added. Now here's the problem. If i move a user over to our new exchange server (different location then the first exchange server) their OWA stops working. OWA works for people who are on the original BE server. OWA is not working i meant to say that if the user's mailbox is on the new exchange (exchange2) server and they try to log into OWA (using https:) they get a "page cannot be displayed" error. But their OMA works fine. They can receive and reply to emails from their PDA device. We use digital certificates for OWA and OMA. Is there something I may have overlooked? Thank you for your time. We are a Univ. and in light of what happened at Virginia Tech University the other day EVERYONE is talking about how to communicate with students in an emergency.     - Problem with sending to some SMTP servers. I am running Small Business Server 2003 with Exchange. Everything appears to be going well. But a check has revealed that no one is able to send to any hotmail.com addresses.     - SMTP Connector in Exchnage Server 2003 ... Hello, SMTP Connector from Echange server 2003 to Symantec SMTP gateway ver 5.0 goes down sometimes. In this interval users who have sent an e-mail, receives an automated undeliverable error message that says " you don't have a permission to send an e-mail to that recipient". I disabled all the parameters deferring the SMTP connection in the Symantec SMTP Gateway against the known attacks like spam and virus attacks. How can I fix this problem?     - Exchange 2007 SSL certificate generation Hi all, I am having allot of trouble figuring out exactly what domains/subject alternative names I am supposed to register for a SSL cert. I'll outline the current configuration using modified names to obfuscate actual identity. Single Exchange 2007 server with all roles(intended to replace an existing 2003 server). server address: mailex.ad.example.com hosts mail for dept.example.com mail domain Active Directory domain which contains accounts and mailboxes is ad.example.com From what I understand, to enable all features including autodiscover I would do the following: common name is the server name, mailex.ad.example.com subject alternative names should be mailex (netbios name of server) mailex.ad.example.com (FQDN of server, do I need this if it's already in the common name?) autodiscover.dept.example.com mail.dept.example.com (if I want to give staff a friendly alternative OWA name to access email at?) dept.example.com (because it supports this email domain) Do I also need to have a general item for ad.example.com in there? Allot of the Microsoft documentation is confusing, and unfortunately all the examples are "simple" ones, none for a server that hosts multiple roles and a mail domain different to the AD domain.     - Stopping Spam Relaying Hey, My Exchange server is being used to relay spam, and I'm having real issues sorting it out - in the Queues in the Exchange System Admin Console, there are always oodles and oodles of messages that are queued to send, or have been denied and are retrying, and I've been freezing the connections and dleteing the messages, but of course there are still messages that get through.     - restore Exchange from production to lab I have duplicated AD from production to lab. It seems working fine. Now, I'd like to restore one of the Exchnage 2003 server with multiple SGs to the lab server. I can set up the lab server with same name, OS, etc. But it's a server with different hardware. The lab is in an isolated network, has no Internet or connection to any network. I also don't have backup/restore system to restore online backup from production to lab. But I might be able to get the DBs restored to a laptop and bring it into the lab. I have been searching MS KB for instructions but haven't found any so far.     - Information store on Ex2007 cant start Just did a transition from exchange 2003 to 2007 on a 64bit system in the same domain. I followed all the steps outlined in HENRIK WALTHER article from msexchange.org. Everthing went well and i've decommisioned the ex2003 but on exch 2007 the info store can't start.     - Problem with second Exchange Server (2003) My Exchange organization has been functioning fine for a while but now i have installed a second server and although it seemed to install fine, it has a critical problem. I wanted to move a mailbox to the new server and it gets this error up clicking the second server under Administrative Groups: "The action could not be completed because the Microsoft Exchange Information service is unavailable. Be sure the service is running and you have network connectivity to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer Operation: Retrieving mount information. ID no: c1041721 Exchange System Manager" Ive checked the services and the settings in DNS and pinged the server by IP and by name.     - problem when sending email... returning due to antispam SPAMHAUS.O I have a SBS 2003 whit exchange server installed. I have a dynamic adsl connection. When my Public IP changes, some of the mail's i send are return whit the message that they are being stopped by spamhaus.org due to there antispam policy, other mail's return giving the information that the recipient dont exist.. which is false.     - additional exchage in a shared address space / install question Hello Group! I am about to run out of space on my exchange server, so I came here for an advice. I have 3 physical locations Location 1 - Headquarters (50 Users in the workgroup environment) Location 2 - Remote Site (10 Users Domain Environment with Exchange) Location 3 - Remote Site (7 Users Domain Environment) I have a Gateway to Gateway VPN tunnel between Location 2 and 3. I am in a single Active Directory 2003 forest with a single domain (mycompany.local) DC at the location 2 holds all 5 FSMO roles. Exchange 2003 Enterprise is configured on the same server. Users from 2nd location run outlooks NON Cached mode Users from 3rd location run outlooks in Cached mode, because they come over VPN tunnel to pick up their mail. Since Location 1 does not have an exchange server nor do they want exchange functionality they chose to stay with POP3 mailboxes. Our ISP hosts POP3 mailboxes for users in all locations, (1, 2 and 3) however emails for users in locations 2 and 3 are picked up by the pop3 exchange connector at the 2nd location and forwarded to the user mailboxes in exchange. As you understand this is a shared namespace configuration. I created 2 smtp connectors in exchange and 2 policies which take care of the mail flow between mailbox enabled users, mail enabled users and external recipients. In other words if a mailbox enabled user from Location 3 sends an email to a mail enabled user in Location 1 or external recipients, email goes out through one (external) smtp connector. If a mailbox enabled user from Location 3 sends and email to a mailbox enabled user from Location 2 it goes out through another (internal) smtp connector. The check box "This Exchange Organization is responsible for all mail delivery to this address" under recipient policy is unchecked. What I want to do at this point is get another Exchange server running at location 2 and move all mailboxes from the old exchange server to the new box. I sill want my old exchange box to get emails from pop3 connector and forward them to the mailboxes on new server. Does anybody know what configuration issues I may run in to?     - OWA over HTTPS. I am following all steps to make OWA over HTTPS. I am following all steps in http://www.shijaz.com/exchange/SSL_OWA.htm basically creating the CA, issuing a certificate, etc, etc. Finally when i do HTTPS://myserver/exchange I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" Basically the log file of IIS is showing nothing port 443. I have D: (Database), and E: (Logs) as RAID-1 volumes. All the examples I can find have LogFolderPath and SystemFolderPath together, so in my case it would be - LogFolderPath = E:\ExchLog\SG-A SystemFolderPath = E:\ExchData\SG-A EdbFilePath = D:\ExchData\SG-A I have setup D: with 64KB allocation unit size (as per recommendations), I cannot find documentation on the log volume, and have setup with 16KB. We will install 2003 initially due to legacy agency software compatibility issues with the Exchange 2007. We plan to use the 2003 on a Windows 2000 server until we install 2007 at which time we will upgrade the server os.     - Need Advice about running Exchange Hi, I work for a small non-profit and we run SBS 2003 which has Exchange 2003 installed. We currently are not using Exchange, our e-mail is hosted by our ISP. My boss wants to have outlook 2003 shared calendaring functionality, and I told him that was only available if we run Exchange. He's concerned about us hosting our own e-mail. I'm the only IT guy (35 employees in the organization) and he is worried about how much time it would take to administer Exchange. What would you suggest? " For a non-clustered installation, it's more vague, saying "MS Docs for Exch2003 say a prereq is, "Domain Name System (DNS) and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) are configured correctly in your Windows site." I'm not running WINS, do I need to install and configure it for all servers & clients on the network? Just servers? The documentation doesn't expand on this at all. I was able to synchonize directories between Domino and Active Directory, to create accounts based on Domino accounts but I cannot migrate a mailbox. I guess the problem is related to the autodiscovery process but I didn't found anything usefull on Internet. I get the same issue with the command line. Is there a log created I could check ?     - Disk Allocation on iSCSI SAN So I asked this once before and got one answer and then posted a Similar Question over on the SQL group for the SQL Server and recived a different answer. When setting up Exchange you typically want your Logs on a Different drive then your Data. What about when they are Logical Drives in the same array of an iSCSI SAN? The SQL guys seem to think that since the logical drives are all in the same RAID 5 SAN Array that there really isn't much of a difference if you seperate out your Log files from your Data files. It is much easier to manage one drive and only have to go to one place to make sure the drive had enough room, etc on it. I could conceieve that if I had multiple Logical Drives from the Array mounted on the Exchange/SQL Serves that there is a higher potential for there to be more HD spindals involved, though not sure if that is enough.     - OMA is going to break me! Question Hi Guys, I've posted this in a few places but no answer as yet. Would really appreciate some help. I've spent days researching this. I am having a nightmare getting mobile access working. Iâ??m testing out Exchange 2003 SP2 with sharepoint on the same host. Roadsync is not working, after reading 500 posts i've narrowed it down to the /oma dir. When accessing the /oma directory from IE I get: A System error has occurred while processing your request. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact your administrator. + on Exchange Event 1501 - No user credentials were found in the HTTP request. I have read many postings. Have tried http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/817379, SSL is now disabled. /exchange-oma dir created. + Basic Auth is enabled on this directory. I have also followed suggestions about sharepoint + exchange being hosted on the same box but still no joy. Also made sure Kerberos and NTLM auth are enabled in the metabase which apparently is needed. Have made sure the host headers match the netbios name etc which is another suggestion. I know about spam and the amount of it but I'm replacing a linux server with
a catchall account and there isn't any problem with it 5 spam/day the last 5
years.
