    - Configuration of Active Directory for Exchange Hi, I'm trying to design a setup for my exchange server and have a relatively easy question. I currently have 1 server 2003 system that is authenticating logins. I want my new server 2003 system with exchange installed to have the same users as the current server, and when you update one, the other automatically updates with users.     - Sequence of Frontend- backend E2k3 server We have one windows 2003 domain/forest and twelve Exchange 2000 servers. We are upgrading three sites to Exchange 2003 using Swing/Move mailbox method. We also have two SSL front end server in NLB running Exchange 2000. My questions are: 1) I understand that we need to first upgrade front end server. I plan to take one front end server out and install Exchange 2003/Windows 2003. I will be designating this server as the first Exchange 2003 server and then making it front end server. When I use the EXDEPLOY, do I have to make it as first Exchange 2003 server. I did run into issues, when i installed mailbox server as first server in test lab and then installed front end server as second server. OWA 2003 only shows me the template and no messages. 2) After this, I will reinstall the second OWA server as Exchange 2003. I will designate this as second exchange 2003 server using Exchange deployment tools. Then change the role to front end. I will then NLB both the front server. 3) After the front end is done, then I plan to install a new backend mailbox exchange 2003 server in one site and start moving mailboxes to Exchange 2003.     - Where might my mail be going? I have set up a new Exchange 2003 Server. Everything works fine for e-mails sent to me@mydomain.com. However, I also want emails sent to metoo@differentdomain.com to arrive in my me@mydomain.com mailbox. I have updated the MX record so that e-mails sent to metoo@differentdomain.com point to my Exchange server. I have added the smtp address metoo@differentdomain.com to my User Profile under e-mail addresses. What else might I need to do? e-mails are getting lost in space.     - Setting up my own web server??? I have windows servr 2003 and am trying to set up my own web server....I think. I'm hoping to be able to run my website from it, and post pictures and information that my friends can access/download from using my cable internet at my house.     - LDAP question w/ Barracuda I have a Barracuda Spam Firewall that has a builtin Exchange Accelerator which basically hooks into the Exchange server and verifies the email address before sending the email to the server. Therefore, eliminating the BADMAIL folder. In the administration of the barracuda it asks for LDAP / Exchange Username and Password. What is that? Is it the Administrator and it's PW?     - upgrade 5.5-2003--priv.edb size In am in the process of upgrading from 5.5 std to 2003 Ent. My Priv.edb on my 5.5 server is about 15 gb. I have moved about 1 gb of mailboxes to the 2003 Ent server. I can see that the priv1.edb on the 2003 Ent server has grown by the 1 gb but the 5.5 db has not decreased in size.     - Windows or Exchange? Ok, this is a good one. 2003 DC, GC, DNS, & WINS NetDiag & DCDiag pass all tests Always get the following errors on boot: 1. Kerberos [537] An error occurred during login. 2. UserENV [1097] Windows cannot find the machine account, the local security authority cannot be contacted. According to Microsoft these errors are normal and should be ignored. THEN we installed Exchange Server 2003. Now we get the first two errors followed by these, 1. SA fails to start [No log error] 2. IS fails to start [Dependency on SA] 3. MTA fails to start [Depenency on SA] 4. Event fails to start [Dependency on IS] 5. MSADC [8026] LDAP bind was unsuccessful - Server down.     - Best Configuration for multiple sites over intermittent WAN ? Greetings list members, Here is the situation I am looking at. Id like to know what people think is the best method for providing good email and domain services between these 2 sites that are connected by and expensive (and intermitttent) WAN link (with VPN). Site1: Windows Server 2003/Exchange Server 2003 All email is delivered to this site (MX Record points to this address for the domain) Site2: Windows Server 2003/Exchange Server 2003 Provides local site users with collaboration functionality GFI MailEssentials with POP2Exchange periodically connects to Site1 to download mail At the moment Site1 and Site2 are connected by a reasonably reliable WAN connection. So, we have a single exchange organization with these 2 sites defined. Mail seems to flow between mailboxes located on each of the 2 exchange servers. However, this WAN connection is about to get very expensive, so we would like to have the GFI pop2exchange service periodically connect to download mail from Site1 to Site2. Also, GFI Mail Essentials pop2exchange service deletes the email once it has retrieved it. Is anyone aware of a method that can be used to retain the emails (prevent them from being deleted) on site1 even though the pop client has retrieved them to site2? I know i need to use the ADC, exchange migration task wizard to move mailboxes, but what shuold i be using in order to migrate the public folders/distribution lists.     - Messages stay in outbox on 1 client for too long - using WinXP Pro SP2 One of our clients is having delays in receiving and sending mail. When the person sends a mail, the message seem to stay in the outbox for a long while, however if they click on the 'outbox' the message goes and moves to the sent items folder. It only appears to be one client and they are not trying to send attachments etc. Also received messages seem to be delayed also... and don't flag up in the inbox..however I got him to click the inbox and the mail appeared. I have tried removing and re-creating the mail profile on his PC (Windows XP Pro SP2) but the problem remains. Can anyone recommend a solution? He is well within the the 'limits' for his mailbox. No other clients are exhibiting this behaviour. Our setup: Exchange 2000 mailboxes and Outlook 2000 clients. Since then I can't get the global address book to replicate between the remaining 3 servers.     - exchange domain extension change...help! Hi All, I have an exchange 5.5 setup on a computer called exchangeny. When it was created about 6 years ago, it was given a domain extension of xxx.com, which I know to be a no-no for an internal domain. I am in the process of upgrading our NT servers to 2003, and will be upgrading exchange to 2003 as well. Accordingly, I have brought online a 2003 server with AD and DNS. During the install process of the DNS, I changed the domain extension to xxx.local. So far, so good. I repointed all the clients (via DHCP) to the new 2003 DNS, and they are all happy campers.....EXCEPT... I have a 2003 terminal server which has outlook 2003 on it with a bunch of users created. These users cannot get to the exchange server via outlook - no available or offline. After looking at the problem, I found that the exchange server in the profile for each user is set to exchangeny.xxx.com - not just plain ole exchangeny. Short of logging in to each existing profile, is there a way to change this behaviour??? Thanks to anyone who can help!!!!!     - Exchange 5.5 to 2000 running on 2000 AD Here is the current situation at my company. When I came here, they were running a NT4 domain with two exchange 5.5 servers, one of which was the PDC. Since then, I have upgrade the domain to 2000 AD running in mixed mode. The former PDC is now a BDC being replicated from the a 2000 DC. So our current configuration includes a 2000 AD domain with all 2000 or better servers except for the two exchange 5.5 servers which still run on NT4. What I want to do is run the new exchange server off a new 2000 server box and get rid of the old NT boxes. I've read through alot of how to's and books about upgrading exchange and wondered what the best way to do it is in my case. The company is behind times in technology and they want to upgrade exchange 5.5 to 2000 enterprise exchange. It is a small network with around 75 or so users. I have already done the forest and domain prep sucessfully for AD and ran ADC to export the recipients from 5.5. I did get a few errors and warnings about not being able to recreate some objects. Is this because i'm running in a mixed mode? I read you need 2000 exchange already installed before you can export public folders so I have not done that yet.     - SMTP smart host Hi all I am setting up a SMTP 2003 smart host that is going to forward mail for my two domains to my two internal exchagne servers. I am in the middle of a migration from 5.5 to 2003 both I am doing a intra-org migration. Both exchagne servers can accept mail for my two mail domains i.e domainA.com and domainB.com. When I setup the remote domains on the SMTP VS server i am selecting route forward mail to smart host using the exchagne servers ip address in brackets i.e [192.168.1.1] my question is if the 5.5 server and the 2003 server both acecpt mail for domainb.com and domaina.com then what is the proper way to configre the SMTP VS server so that if a mail comes in for user@domainA.com and that users mailbox is on the 5.5 server but the smtp VS forwared the email to the 2003 server, then is there a way for the 2003 server to know that it needs to route this email to the 5.5 server where the users mailbox is? What i would like to do is be able to forward all mail from the SMTP VS to one internal exchange server, and the exchagne would then route the mail on to the other server if it doesnt have the mailbox for the user who is suppsoed to get the email.     - Workgroup to Domain in SBS2003/Exchange I have 20 users here on my network. We've all been on a workgroup. We've all been using Outlook 2003 too. Some people have tons of junk on their computers (desktops, my documents, created folders, etc...). I'm wondering about 2 things. 1. Is there a quick way or tool that will/can migrate a user and all their stuff from having been in a workgroup to the new domain account (that's created under documents and settings) - and.. 2. Those *.pst files I've found from users in the workgroup using Outlook 2003 - but are now moving to using Outlook 2003 via exchange server in a domain - how do I import/move their email?     - "Unsupported character" in site name. Can I get a solid answer? I am trying to join a E2K3 Server to a E5.5 site. The Site name contains a Comma (,) and a preiod (.). I have changed the "Display name" of the site, but I cannot change the Directory Name. During the pre-installation steps on E2K3, OrgCheck is still showing the "unsupported character" result.     - Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2003 Hello We are currently running Exchange server 5.5 on Windows 2000 server. Due to political reasons, we cannot upgrade to Exchange 2003/and Windows 2003 server. My question is there anyway we can use 5.5 as a kind of forwarder or relay to point to an exchange 2003 server so that users can experience the features of 2003 and so we don't have to endure the issues of a mixed mode environment while at the same time abiding to these "political reasons"????     - Importing from .pst file and DLs I installed Exchange Server 2003 in December. We did not upgrade this was a fresh install. I imported users mail, contacts etc from their .pst files and everything seemed to go fine. Today I noticed that some users .pst file is still updating when I look at the modified date of the file. I would think that once imported, the pst file is no longer needed or used. It appears there is still a transparent link to some of the pst files for some folders within Outlook. One user in particular had a subfolder under his Inbox that was still putting things to the pst. Additionally, many users Distribution lists do not work if the pst file is deleted or renamed. I want to break all ties with the pst. When I did the import I selected the root folder of the pst and checked the box to Include all Subfolders.     - emails not going! Hi, We have SBS2003 set up in the office mainly used for sharing calendars in Outlook 2003 between users. That part of the system seems to be working fine. Our email system is not via Exchange, we use our pop3 accounts on our domain name/website hosting account. So each user has their POP3 account (for emails) and a microsoft exchange server account (for sharing calendars and folders on the server within Outlook. Over the last few days some of our emails are not being sent. They are staying in the outbox and not going anywhere. Can someone tell me why that might be please? The emails are being 'sent' via the correct account (POP3) but sometimes we get a 'can not be deleivered' message back and this comes from the server! Please, why is this happening? The server has not been set up to send emails yet, mainly due to the fact that I can't seem to get it to work with our setup. Single Network adapter connected to a Draytek Vigor modem/router (ADSL) with a static IP. When I try to set it up I get a message back telling me that the DHCP server is not enabled.     - Help with Exchange 2003 on WinSvr2003 We were working fine on our email using WinSvr2003's built-in SMTP & POP3 servers. But we wanted a webmail interface for traveling users. We went through all the steps for installing Exchange 2003 which included disabling/removing the SMTP & POP3 services..and creating a domain, which we didn't have before. I believe we have the DNS Server set up properly as NSLOOKUP returns "localhost" as the instructions say. But the Exchange Server doesn't work. It can send email to any AD user setup on the local server, but any emails sent out to the internet just sit in the queue with an error "remote server not responding". Also, the POP3 service won't start, no error other than a timeout error when trying to start it. Even though it shows the SMTP server is running, I get an "unable to establish a connection to x.x.x.x port 25" when trying to telnet to it. It seems that the only thing working now is the web interface. BTW: our email system isn't down. We are going to replace that server with this one if we ever get exchange working correctly. I followed this article which direct you to uninstal and reinstall the IIS and reinstall the exchange but no improvement. They advise me to reinstall the whole server again ...!!!     - Unable to set server rules following server migration - please hel Hi, I have just migrated our company from one exchange 5.5 server to another using exmerge. All appears to have gone well apart from server rules. Users rules are erroring and when we try to create new rules we get the following error messages: Outlook 98 - There is not enough space on the Microsoft Exchange Server to store all of your rules. The rules that failed to upload have been deactivated. Outlook 2003 - One or more rules could not be uploaded to Exchange Server and have been deactivated. This could be because some of the parameters are not supported or there is insufficient disk space to store all of your rules. I am unable to solve this problem. Please can anyone offer some advice.     - SBS 2003: Problems importing Public Folders from a .pst file On my SBS 4.5 machine I have two public folders - "Computer Equipment Register" which contains Contact items (one record per item of computer equipment) and "Computer Equipment Log" which contains Journal items. When I carry out some work on a piece of computer equipment, I create a Computer Equipment Log entry; one of the fields on the form is Contacts, which allows me to navigate to the Computer Equipment Register and link the related equipment. Whan I've done this, the related equipment becomes a hyperlink, that when clicked opens the relevent Computer Equipment Register record. Similarly, If I open the Computer Equipment Register record and go to the Activities tab, I can see all of the Computer Equipment Log entries that the equipment is linked to. This works great. I am now in the progress of migrating to SBS 2003. In order to migrate my public folders, I have logged on to the 4.5 machine as a normal user and exported the public folders (as a .pst file). I then logged onto the 2003 machine as a normal user and tried importing the public folders. The import then seemed to work fine. The problem is that whilst I can navigate to the Computer Equipment Log records from the Activities tab of a Computer Equipment Register record, if I open an existing Computer Equipment Log record and click the link (Contact) to the Computer Equipment (Register record) it returns the following error: The name or distribution list has been deleted and is no longer a valid address book entry. You have most likely attempted to view the calendar for a user who has one or more of the following issues: â?¢ Is not part of your domain. â?¢ Is not listed in the LDAP. â?¢ Is not a member of your Exchange Server. â?¢ Has not granted you the necessary permissions to view their calendar. To avoid this error message, use the Open Calendar command only if the attendee is using Exchange Server. If the user uses Exchange Server and you still encounter an error message, ask the attendee for the appropriate permissions to view their calendar. If they are not part of your network, it is very likely you cannot gain access to their calendar. BTW, I've got the following permissiond for both folders: Client Permissions: Publishing Author Directory Rights: Full Control I've got a lot of really good and important stuff in these public folders and so it is imperative that I get them to work (BTW, the Computer Equipment Log is big - 291Mb, so it wouldn't be feasible to correct it all by hand).     - Multiple SMTP Domains and OWA Hello, In my current Exchange 2000 environment I have a front end / backend configuration hosting 3 mail domains. corp1.com, corp2.com and corp3.com. Through the course of migration to 2003 I have upgraded the front end to 2003 and put a pilot 2003 server in place. Now I am beginning to build the replacement 2003 production server and I am having difficulty getting OWA to work. On the current 2000 server I just configured extra virtual directories called corp2.com and corp3.com. When corp2.com and corp3.com clients connect to OWA they go to http://corp1.com/corp2.com/username I have replicated this configuration on the new 2003 server however I am not able to get this configuration working.     - Rename my domain or use recipient policies? I'm about to set up an exchange 2003 server on a network that already has a windows 2000 domain running. The name of the win2k domain is different from the name of the company internet domain. this is a small network, 1 domain controller and about 20 workstations. I will be installing exchange 2003 on a new win2003 server. Is it easier to rename the win2k domain to match the internet domain before installing exchange, or is it better to leave the windows domain alone and use recipient policies?     - Exchange and POP side by side? We are small company and in the process of implementing SBS2003. Previously we all had direct e-mail access through a peer to peer network and a DSL connection. Inter company communication was all through POP. Being able to share calenders and contacts is attractive for us. Before I started with the Exchange implementation my expectation was that I would have an Exchange mailbox for internal mail and our existing Outlook .PST folder. And that each application would work side by side, i.e. the old .PST would check e-mail directly through the Internet. What I've seen so far is that OL can deliver mail only to one inbox. If Exchange is installed it insists on delivering to the exchange box. In fact it insist through the POP connector that Exchange retrieves e-mail directly from the POP accounts. Is this correct or is there a workaround? We are frequent travellers and want to be able to connect to the Internet to retrieve e-mail without connecting to SBS. Is that possible? Can anybody tell me how to setup "Authentication Methods" - I get this error trying to logon: "Your user account has not been enabled for wireless access.     - Stop Working Looking for a little insight. Running SBS 2003 Premium and MS exchange which was running just fine. Comcast screwed up yet again and suddenly change our static IP in our SMC router. They've now reprogrammed the router with the old static IP and claim they're not blocking and ports. I'm able to send email without a problem but can't receive! Exchange seems to be running just fine and the are no suspicious errors in the event viewer. I've used the email test at www.dnsstuff.com and it tells my mx record for mydomain.com is pointed to the correct IP but when I try to actuallly test for postmaster@mydomain.com it returns the message "[Could not connect: Could not connect to mail server (timed out)" Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!     - NT4 Exchange 5.5 ADC error I have a new test environment that contains a W2K3 AD Controller and an NT4 Exchange 5.5 server that is running a restored copy of our Corporate server. I am trying to prepare the Exchange environment for a migration to Exchange 2003 that will be installed to a different server, but first I am trying to get the Exchange 2003 Active Directory Connector installed to the Exchange 5.5 server. I am logging in to the Exchange 5.5 server as an AD Schema Admin that is also a full admin on the Exchange server. I am installing from a shared drive and am launching the ADC\i386\setup.exe and getting this error: "The Procedure entry point DsRoleGetPrimaryDomainInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library NETAPI.dll" When I try to run the Exchange 2003 setup.exe /fprestprep, i get this: "The dynamic link library dbghelp.dll could not be found in the specified path" The NT4 Exchange 5.5 server is fully updated to current levels, Running Exchange 5.5 sp4, and has the XML4 Parser installed.     - RPC over HTTP I am trying to Install a single server RPC HTTP Proxy server. I went through KB833401 setup as well as another KB. I can't remember the #. I cannot establish an HTTPS connection when I run the outlook /rpcdiag. It connects via tcpip. I believe I'm having a problem with the Certificate Authentication.     - Configure Exch2003 to accept email from MS Project Server I'm sure I'm missing something simple but... I have a MS Project Server 2003 and an Exch 2003 server on the same domain. In Project Server, I set the email and notifications to route to the exchange server (by IP address) on Port 25. When the Project Server sends notifications they fail. In the app log on the project server I get "the server rejected on or more recipient addresses. The server response: 501 5.5.4 Invalid address." There are no errors on the Exch server that I can see. I've tinkered with the Project Server settings as much as I can. I'm guessing that Exchange isn't accepting incoming SMTP messages from the server but I'm not so sure how to fix the problem. This is the first server, we have done all the prep but the setup fails when installing the messaging and collaboration componenet when trying to install exifs.sys and then fails on the management tools installing exifsmsg.dll. However it is essential that as far a the users are concerned they are totally unaware of any domain or users there of other than those that belong to their domain. Can this be done??     - OWA Setup for mulitple location deployment Hello, We have 5 locations set up in a spoke and ring. Email comes into the main office from the internet and is then routed to the appropriate remote location via point to point VPN connections. Each remote location has about 50 users and each location has an Exchange 2003 Server installed on Windows 2003 with 100 users at the main office (We're also at the Domain and Functional level of Windows 2003). We are going to enable access to OWA from outside our organization. We currently use ISA 2004 as our firewall and will publish a Front End Exchange 2003 Server in the existing DMZ. My question is how many front end OWA servers do I need? Can one front end OWA server in the DMZ at our main locatoin where all email comes in work to retrieve email for remote users whose email accounts are on the Exchange Servers in our remote locations?     - new Recipient Policies, E2K3 I've been researching and trying to play with Recipient Policies--they're complicated enough that a small book could be written...:) Anyway, here's what I'm dealing with. If I use this (http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF010.html) article's suggestion (thanks to Henrik Walther for pointing me to it), I end up applying all of the domains to all users--I don't want to do this. It appears I'm going to need to create some new Recipient Policies to handle the unique situations. I've tried using the query tool to populate the respective policies, but the fact that multi-part queries are "AND"ed vs "OR"ed is precluding some users/contact/public folders from being included...so, here's what I'm thinking: Use one of the custom attribute fields in each mailbox and add a descriptor that ties every mailbox-enabled user/contact/public folder to its respective domain(s). I don't have so many users that this would be a huge issue, but is it the BEST way to go about handling this situation?     - Exchange 2k3 Migration I just migrated my Windows 2k with Exchange 2k server to a new Windows 2k3 with Exchange 2k3. Everything worked fine. My only question is "If I shut down my old exchange server OWA works perfect, Outlook 2003 hesitates at about 50% after hitting send and receive but finally goes ahead a finishes without any errors?". When I bring the old exchange server back online Outlook 2003 works perfect.
