    - custom recipient Hi, I asked how to forward email from exchange 5.5 to an AOL account (for example) I got this Create a custom recipient representing the user@aol.com. Open properties of the exchange recipient and on the delivery options tabs add the custom recipient as an alternate recipient. You can select the check box to have message sent to both.     - unable to resore Exchange in a different forest We are backing up (full)Exchange 2000 daily using Veritas. We have never tested a restore. My task is to do jus that for the company. We would like to simulate a worst case scenario in which the Exchange server is completel destroyed. So a full server recovery scenario is the order of the day here Let me explain our setup All our servers are running Windows 2000 sp4 and we have 1 Exchange server with sp3 (member server). We have 2 D one of them is in Montreal and the other is in Los Angeles. We have high speed links between these sites.The Exchange server is a clean install as our other servers are. We have 1 test server for the Exchange database restore. It is in a different forest and its site (Exchange name) name is the same as the production server. It is on the same subnet. The Test Exchange server is ready for a restore. I must set up a trust because Veritas backup admin account must have the right to restore the information store on the other forest. So i try to set up an inter-forest one-way non transitiv trusts without any success (KBQ315053. The error i am getting is the rpc server is unavailable. So i check unde services and the RPC service is started. I go under security in the event viewer and there is an error 52 (bad password or wrong username). I re do the trust and the same error occurs. I then check both DNS settings an yes i can ping each namespace. I believe that this problem has something to do with the authentication used between 2 forests. I am using NTLM Please has someone restored an exchange server on a different server while the production server is stil running? Specifically how to establish an inter-forest trust without the errors? And yes please do not point to the disaster recovery paper.     - Exch 2003: New address list does not appear in Outlook Address Book I'm setting up an Exchange 2003 server under Windows 2003. So far everything is going well with one exception: when I make a new address list in System Manager it never appears in the client Address Book. The client is Outlook 2001 (Mac.) I'd like to make an address list that is staff only so I can use it as the primary address list for all the employees instead of the cluttered global one. I can create the new address list easily in System Manager with the criteria that the AD group "All Staff" is the filter for Address List population. When I hit the "Preview" button I properly see all the people I'd added to the AD group "All Staff". When I go to the client Address Book I can see pop-up list does not include my new address list. When I select "all address lists" it still does not show up. I'm using the default permissions on my new address list. Nothing I've done has worked.     - Evaluation to Full Licensed Version I installed Exchange using the Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition 120-day Evaluation disc. In the CD sleeve it states that "The 120-day evaluation of Exchange Server 2003 can be upgraded to the fully licensed version of Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition without uninstalling the Standard Edition evaluation software."     - ADC upgrade error I was originally getting an unknown username error when I tried to upgrade the ADC from 2000 to 2003.     - Transfering Mailboxes to New Server W/ Different Domain Our company recently changed it's name, so we're setting up a new Windows Domain. Our older Single Exchange 2000 Server resides on the Old domain. Because of a hardware issue, we're having to rebuild the box. We're planning to install Exhange 2003 on the new system. My question is, Is there an easy way to transfer the mailboxes from the old server in the old domain, to the new server with the new domain name?     - ADC Question I have an Exchange 5.5 single site and a Windows 2000 native mode domain set up in my lab. I am using the latest Exchange 2003 Deployment Tools. In the Users: ADC agreement which is a two-way, I am unable to select any objects to replicate From Windows: tab.     - ES03 Indexing .PDFs We are trying to enable indexing of .PDFs in Public Folders. I've found instructions on how this could be done in E2K (http://www.ftponline.com/wss/2002% 5F11/magazine/columns/askpros/page3.aspx), but am getting an error when trying to complete using WS03/ES03 versions of tools. Upon trying to get the properties of the Catalog Build Server, as directed, am getting the error: "Unable to connect to host XXXX. The application called an interface that was marshalled for a different thread." And thus unable to add the .pdf file type to the indexed file extenstions.     - Emergency 5.5 Upgrade Installation I have a bit of a problem - really more than that. Our NT-based Exchange 5.5 server died (we have backups) and I would like to move on to W2K Server with Exchange 5.5 instead of NT4. This was the last server in the phase- out/migration plan. Needless to say the server's failed drive moved it up in the schedule. Amongst all of the other problems, it turns out that the copy (legit) of Exchange 5.5 is an upgrade and won't install without an installed version. I assume that it was once 5.0 (this predates my tenure here). I have the following questions: 1. If I recover the Exchange 5.5 directory from the backups, will it reinstall it under W2K Server? or...... 2. Is there a way to get around the need of an installed version? 3. How can I retrieve the configuration settings from the backup? 4. As part of our system's ressurection and completing the server (4) migration process, we want to move to AD. Also, when I try on the 5.5 machine to move the mailbox, it says that it cannot connect to the server or the Information store is not started.     - Exchange Server 2000 External E-Mail Sometimes works Sometimes Doesn't Ok, I have setup exchange server 2000 on a Win2K server for a customer. At first everything appeared to go ok, when I send internal e-mail it works just fine, when I was sending external e-mail it also works just fine (or so I thought). The setup is that I have a "static" IP address configurd on a linksys router which routs traffic inside to my exchange server on port 25, my exchange server can make outbound connections on port 25 also just fine. When I send e-mail from the exchange server to my home mail server (which runs sendmail of course, hehehe) I get the e-mails just fine. Even some companies like Wells Fargo seem to get ALL the e-mail just fine, however when I send e-mail to something like a yahoo account (I have a personal yahoo account to test this) I never get a bounce and I see the queue for yahoo.com in Exchange System Manager process the e-mail just fine but the message NEVER comes into my yahoo mail box (however when I send e-mail from my home to my yahoo account I get the e-mail just fine). I thought maybe my exchange server was placed in the ORBS open relay list and my messages where getting denyed, I checked ORBS and that isn't the case I also fixed my open relay problem because I did have one. Then I though exchange was attaching it's internal IP address to the mail messages and that they might be getting droped because yahoo couldn't do a reverse lookup on the internal IP address, that wasn't the case either all the e-mail looks like it comes from the External IP address given to me by Comcast (who is supplying the static address for me). I'm not sure what the problem is so I decided to sniff the traffic using etheral. I can see that Yahoo accepts the message: 1) I see the EHLO and then the IP address of the exchange server given (the IP given to me by comcast) 2) Then I see the MAIL FROM command with an OK responce from Yahoo's mail server 3) Then I see the RCPT command for the yahoo address I am sending e-mail to and I get an OK responce again from Yahoo's mail server 4) Then I see the command DATA with a responce "go ahead" 5) Then I see the Message Body with a Responce 250 ok dirdel (this is a yahoo thing the dirdel) 6) Then I see another Message Body from my exchange server 7) Then I see a wierd message from the Yahoo mail server [TCP Retransmission] Responce: 221 mta230.mail.scd.yahoo.com So that worried me so I decided to send a message from my Unix SMTP server and snoop that data from there to my yahoo mail account and I see pretty much the same stuff, I even get the Responce: 221 mta131.mail.scd.yahoo.com The ONLY difference is I DO NOT see the "[TCP Retransmission] part when I snoop the data from my unix box to my yahoo account and of cours the e-mail shows up in my yahoo mail account from my unix server but NEVER from the Exchange server (other e-mail companies are also not delivering my e-mail like hotmail etc...)     - Exchange 5.5 Upgrade I have a client that has 6 Windows NT 4.0 domains. One domain has a single Exchange 5.5 Server where all users have mailboxes. There are user accounts configured for all users in the organization for this "Exchange" domain. The interesting part of this setup is that every user also has an user account created on one of the other 5 domains. The workstations are part of one of the 5 non-Exchange domains. I want to use ADMT to create the Active Directory accounts. To ease the amount of time for the migration, I was hoping to migrate the Windows NT 4.0 Domain info from the 5 non-Exchange domains. My question is how will the Active Directory Connector work with this metholdolgy? Will I be able to move mailboxes from the Exchange 5.5 Server to the Exchange 2003 server of my newly created Windows 2003 domain?     - Problem migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 Hi, from reading this board this seems to be a common problem. We have come across a few problems with this migration and it's stumping us. In a nutshell > we are trying to migrate Exchange 5.5 mailboxes to Exchange 2003 and we are getting two errors. 1) Can't connect to Exchange 5.5 server 2) Invalid Server specified or you don't have permission I've checked LDAP ports on site and server protocol section in Exchange 5.5 and both are 389. Also under Permissions tab on each I've given the administrator and Domain administrator's group in our domain (different domain to Exchange 5.5 server), all the perms so that it's now custom perms for both. We went to migrate again and got error 2 above. Basically we have come into a school with NT 4.0 so we installed 5 new 2003 servers(new domain) and left three old NT 4 servers (old existing domain) of which one is Exchange 5.5 We made a new domain called schoolname.local for the new servers and setup AD intergrated DNS. The old domain is called ADMIN and is using the same ip range and we made it's primary DNS server one or our new 2003 servers. The old domain is using WINS as well as the new DNS and the Exchange 5.5 box can resolve the name of the new Exchange 2003 Server. We used ADMT to get user and group accounts across to the new domain = no worries. However when we used ADC with RDC (I think?) it gives us one of the errors above. Any idea what we are doing wrong with this? As a work around we are installing w2k server on a spare box with Exchange 2000 server and trying to migrate to that then from there to 2003 Exchange. We are looking for the quickest method of getting all Exchange 5.5 mailboxes and public folders across to the new Exchange 2003 server (who isn't ) We read most of the documentation (and are following it) on Technet about this and we are stumped. Does anyone know if the Exmerge tool will do what we want by exporting .pst files from Exchange 5.5 and importing them into Exchange 2003? Any comments would be appreciated.     - Exchange 2003/5.5 Replication Across Domains My goal is to use the Outlook Web Client for Exchange 2003 to communicate with an Exchange 5.5 server. I have a software application that integrates with Exchange 2003 using the Outlook Web Client. I have a client who has a large Windows NT domain using Exchange 5.5. The Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2003 Outlook web client interfaces are different and we do not want to integrate with the Exchange 5.5 Outlook web client. The client has thousands of exchange mailboxes scattered over hundreds of business divisions. There are insufficient resources to upgrade the entire client from Exchange 5.5 in the near term. My question: Is it possible to have a new server with Windows 2003 Server/Exchange Server 2003 with a new domain and replicate mailboxes with the legacy WindowsNT/Exchange 5.5 server which lies on the legacy domain?     - Problem with name resolution after ADC? We have a 2000 domain sp4, and a 5.5 sp4 machine on a 2000 server sp 4. We are getting ready to set up 2003 exchange and on a 2003 server and then migrate the mailboxes over. We have installed 2003 and then installed the connector on the 2003 machine, but we have not installed 2003 Exchange. I ran Active Directory Connector (with a 2 way connection) and now there are 2 problems? 1. On the global directory in Outlook there are 2 entries for every person, one e-mail address and one (what looks like a) custom recipient, how do I get rid of them? 2. Names are not being resolved when you type them in the to: space in Outlook (Example type Sam Smith and then it returns Smith, Sam so know that it is resolved with in the contacts) what is outlook using now to resolve the names?     - OWA crashes server Is this posssible? I have had Exchange 5.5 on my NT4.0 Server for over 5 years now. I implemented OWA and I've had 5 crashes in the first day ONLY when I'm accessing OWA. I set my DS and IS registry settings to 1225/1226, set iis to 8080 (since I'm already using 80 for another web server). On my firewall (Linksys Hub/DSL Router) I've port forwarded 1225/1226, 8080 and 135 to my Exchange Server. I can access OWA but it seems it I naviage around too much (i.e. move from Inbox, to Deleted Items etc.) my computer crashes with an "unexpected shutdown" message in the Event Viewer. Any ideas?     - Exchange Post Office deployment I have a two part question regarding the deployment of an Exchange Post Office. Part 1: Is there an article that instructs on the deployment of a Post Office? I have Exchange 5.5 installed on a W2K server that currently receives email for users at multiple locations. I would like to configure additional Exchange servers that would pull the email for the users at each location and store the email on the local Exchange server rather than the main one.     - POP3 and IMAP services won't start Gidday All, Just in the middle of a Win2003 network upgrade. Just installed Exchange 2003. Internal mail works fine. External mail from the office out to internet addresses works fine. BUT cannot recieve mail from outside the company. The POP3 and IMAP services won't start. If I try to start them in Exchange I just get "Didn't start in a timely manner - Look in event Viewer for more detail". There is nothing in the events about POP3 not starting. Any Ideas ?     - Information Store DEAD - Exch5.5 Our Public folder is corrupted. I tried to perform a /p repair action by using eseutil tools. It can be done. However, when I tried to perform isinteg -fix -pub -test alltests, it fail. It stop at test 15 'Per-User Read' and return an error : Jet_errObjNotFound. Therefore, I can't do -patch.     - OWA Contacts I am using Outlook 2000 in my office. There I use a Master Contacts in the public folder. That way, at any workstation in my office I have my contacts available. With OWA/Exchnage 5.5 SP4 I am told my version only supports my primary contact folder. Is there any way I can import the Master Contacts into the primary contact folder for use with OWA?     - OMA...configuration and carriers Hello, I have been searching for documentation on how to setup OMA on Exchange 2003. I understand that most of the configuration is installed by default when I installed Exchange; however, I have two issues: 1. Where do I access the carriers list that I can import into Exchange System Manager? What are the steps to accomplish this? 2. When I try to access OMA (servername/oma), I get a Security Exception. "The application attempted to perform an operation not allowd by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission, please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file".     - upgrading from eval to full version of Exchange 2003 I have twice upgraded from the eval version of Exchange to the full version. It has just proven that Microsoft is still Microsoft. The server is still shutting itself down saying that the "trial period" has expired. Well, we have a full version. How do we get to use the software that we paid for?
