Need to setup SPAM filtering on Exchange2K Win2K Server
I have a site that I need to get set up with spam
filtering. What is the best way to set this up. Can any
of you refer me to some good instructions. Selecting
filtering in Exchange Manager is really lame.
Thanks in advance

[ANN]: NNTP Server slowdowns
Hi All,
For several days, we have been experiencing slowdowns in the Microsoft
newsgroups. The combination of the recent waves of spam and viruses
generated several issues that Microsoft teams are troubleshooting now. In
the meantime, to help deal with the slowdowns, we are reducing our message
archive from 90 days to 30 days for newsreaders (such as Outlook Express).
To access discussions older than 30 days, you can use this page:

outlook hangs on third e-mail recepient
Guys,
This is really wierd. I had exchange 5.5 and had a catastrophic error. I
ended up putting Exchange 2000 on a Win 2k DC. I have about fifteen users.
Now when these users use outlook the e-mail is much slower. Here is what
the symptoms are. When we send to one user it goes through quick and fast.
Two same thing. When I put three people in the "To" box the program
responds very slowly. First it resolves the first two names very fast but
on the third it takes a while to resolve the name. I get the hourglass for
about ten seconds.
Next when I hit send it normally takes one second with one or two people in
the to box, however with three it is taking thirty seconds. I have all DNS
pointing to the exchange box. The GAL is kept on the server. I am
confused. Anybody got any answers I will be forever in your debt. Thanks,
Brad Wilson

problems viewing inbox contents
I have recently changed my 2000 server from Mixed mode to
native. I've run forest prep and domain prep. I've
installed Exchange 2000 (native) and SP3. All was done
without any errors. All services are running and all logs
are clean. When I send email to any of the inbox's the
email is being stored on the server but I can't view any
of the email from any clients. I can connect to the
Exchange server without any problems and I can send mail,
I just can't view any of my mail. Any ideas?? Tag: exchange 2003 Tag: 103628
Upgrade E2K RC2 to Licensed(Problem)
Hi there,
I just received my licensed copy of E2K3 yesterday and
when I went to reinstall it over my copy of RC2 it hung
on stopping the MSExchangeIS service. Waited 15 minutes
and still hung on stopping the service. Cancelled out
and rebooted and tried again and same thing.
Can someone please offer some advice, this is supposed to
be straight forward and automatic, however does seem to
want to work. Blowing away and reinstalling is not an
option, server is completely built.
Thanks,

Exchange and bridgehead server
I installed Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003 eval and get the following error
when I use the ICW to set up internet mail: 'To send intenet email, the
selected server cannot be a bridgehead server'. I checked in Active
Directory Sites and Services and confirmed that I didn't add either IP or
SMTP has been added to the preferred bridgehead server for transport.
How do I remove my server from being a bridgehead server? How will that
affect my connection to my ISP? What impacts will that have on my setup?

Exch 2k problems - Help before I kill myself!!!
We have on our network 3 win 2k domain controllers and an exchange 5.5
server.
I have installed windows 2k on a new machine and promoted it to a DC.
I have then run forestprep and domainprep on that machine. Installed the ADC
then installed exch 2k as part of the existing 5.5 organisation.
Win 2k is on SP4 , and Exchange has also had the latest SP applied.
Everything seems to be installed correctly but the exchange information
store service won't start , or if it does start it won't stay running.
In the system log I have the following error appearing each time I restart
the machine.
7024 - the Exchange Information Store service terminated with service
specific error.
In the application log there are hordes of errors , 9538 , 9405 , 9098 ,
8213 , 5000 , 137
I'm trying to work through the cause/solutions of these errors but I have no
idea where to start.
I have already fixed a number of problems with AD that were causing other
errors but I'm rapidly losing the will to live.
Any suggestions?

URGENT - Incoming mail Delivery!
We have just set-up SBS 2k.
Incoming email is collected from a 'catch-all' POP account
at the ISP.
This part is working fine.
What isn't happening is the mail then being re-directed to
the correct mailbox, or any mailbox come to that!
Everything else is working fine (internal, SMTP etc) apart
from this.
Please can somebody shed some light onto this for me Tag: exchange 2003 Tag: 103609
OWA works but Outlook does not
Hello:
After restoring my public and private stores, I am able to access the

I am getting the following error messages:
"The name could not be matched to a name in the address list"

Daft Question
I have created a new 2003 server with Exchange 2003.
Gradually I have fine tuned it to get no errors in the
event log (with a lot of help from this great forum).
My server is called "server" so
server.mycompany.com. "server" is what I connect to for
exchange and it all seems to work a treat. However (and
here come the daft question). I want to change the MX
records to point to my mail server at my domain. Is the
default always mail.mycompany.com? I can't seem to see any
objects within Exchange to suggest this, and maybe
somewhere along the install process I should have named
something mail.mycompany.com. Tag: exchange 2003 Tag: 103604

Exchange 5.5-SP3 database -> Exchange 2003 Question
I have a bit of a situation that I was wondering if
someone who has a bit more experience with Exchange might
be able to answer for me.
Background:
I inherited a W2k/Exchange5.5 Server when I started this
job... and after finally getting the budget approval, I
purchased a nice beefy Gateway 3Ghz to take over the job.
My plan was to run it just like the readmes all say: Put
the E2k3 into the netowrk and quietly move the boxes over
while the users were none the wary. ... except ...
The stupid W2k/E5.5 box decided to die on me this
morning. It is completely dead with very little hopes of
recovery. I was fortunately able to shut down Exchange
and back up the database before the box
crumbled. ...except...
None of the docs that I have been able to find indicate
that I am anything other than completely pooched, since I
can no longer run the Exch5.5 Server and get the
information out of the database, offline or otherwise. (I
would reinstall the 5.5 Software, but all I have been able
to find from the last administration is a 5.5-upgrade
disk, which wont let me do a fresh install. ARG!)
Anyone have any ideas on steps I might take to rectify
this situation? Many thanks for any pointers would be
greatly appreciated.

Exchange 5.5 behind ISA server
I used the following articles to set up my exchange 5.5
w2k to publish through ISA server. (How to install &
Configure ISA Server 2000) by Jeff Baygents and MS
Knowledge base Article 311237. Both have been very
helpful. After changing the configuration on my clients
browser they can access the internet and the can send and
receive internal mail. The however can not sent or receive
mail to internet addresses. I feel it is a binding problem
on port 25 between ISA and exchange but I do not know how
to fix it. When I restore my old Firewall Proxy 2 and
reinstall proxy client on exchange then changed the
Wspcfg.ini files and all is well and I can see binding on
port 25 and mail starts to come in from the internet. As
a note SMtP and IIS has not been install on ISA as I read
this will create a port 25 conflict. Tag: exchange 2003 Tag: 103599

migration from e2k3 to e2k3
I'm something very strang, i want to migrate from a "old" exchange2003
to a "new" exchange2003.
the old e2k3 is a Celeron 333Mhz
the new e2k3 is a Athlon 1100Mhz
both with W2k3.
Both the servers has a normal installation of e2k3, the problem is the
following,
when i start the migration tool, and select that i want to migrate
from a exchange server everything goes as aspected.
When i type in the information of the e2k3 where i want to migrate
from and clik OK, i get the message:
"Unable to logon to the server. Pleas verify the
servername,port,account name, and password."
If read that it could be a LDAP problem but in the tool it says:
"if you're migrating from a Exchange 5.5 server, verify that the
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol(LDAP) is active".
IMHO this could not be the problem.
has somebody a idea?

Rules - Except
I have a series of rules I apply to incoming mail. All work
automatically except for one that "spams" any remaining mail except if
it has certain words in the header or subject. I have to run it
manually and the only difference I can see is that it uses except. The
help files do not indicate this is a problem but it seems to be. Does
anybody know anything about this?

ETRN Info
Hello
I would like to find some documentation on setting up one mail server (not
exchange) to deliver mail to Exchange.
I have read some bits of info about ETRN, etc but haven't seen anything in
regards to actually setting this up.
I basically want one mail server out on the internet ( the mx entry) to
accept mail and send mail and have it hand it off to the Exchange server
within the firewalled network, where users will access it.
Thanks!

Outlook/Exchange RPC HTTP Doesn't Work - Ignores settings
Hi;
I have been reading voraciously on this topic, and appear to have set
up all components properly in our Exchange 2003 / Outlook 2003 world.
The issue I'm finding is that one of two things occurs
1) The client STILL trys connecting over RPC port 135
2) The client stays in disconnected mode
- I have the client patches
- I'm using full release versions
- The RPC HTTP component is installed on the server
- Registry changes to the server are made
- Authentication settings are enabled
Any thoughts?

But no article are never posted in the folders. I even
created an outboune feed and tried to post an article. No
luck. My new post apears in my public folders, but no one

easiest backup & recovery
We've been using Backup Exec for quite a while for backup on Exchange, and
it works ok. But doing a restore is very tricky using the standard method,

from AND individual mailbox recovery from. Is there such a beast?
