    - exch 2k7 setup in cluster getting ready to setup Exchange 2007 mbox server in a windows server 2008 active/passive cluster for the first time. I've done this plenty of times with Exchange 2003.     - OWA redirect for second domain Hi, I'm running Exchange 2003 SP2 Enterprise on the backend and Exchange 2003 SP2 Standard on the frontend running on Win2k3 SP1. There are two domains. owa.mydomain.com and owa.mydomain.org. The owa.mydomain.com works fine. We used KB839357. Both domain sites were generated with the Exchange System Manager. The first into the default web site and the second was created as a new web site. The second dowsn't show RPC virtual dirs, has a home directory for the web site of \\.\backend (etc), has many different setting when compared to the default site and when I make changes to the metabase, say, the home directory tab-site location to point to c:\inetpub\domain.org, changes all the virtual directories under the site.     - How to set Outlook to not send RTF First, I'm new to Exchange, and I have very little knowledge about how it actually works. And, yes, I'm the most knowledgeable in the office, so there's no IT guy to ask. We don't have an Exchange server, but are using a service from Comcast where Comcast hosts the Exchange server. I'm sending emails with attachments from Outlook 2007 to home (Vista - Windows Mail). The attachments will not show up in Windows Mail because, apparently, the emails are being sent in RTF format. There are 3 specific places within Outlook 2007 to specify the mail format, and all of these are set to plain text. It has been suggested, in another group, that Exchange is overriding this somehow and the emails are being sent RTF. I have no idea where to look to change this since we don't even host Exchange.     - NDR 5.1.1 <550> -- please help! hello, i am having serious trouble with an odd NDR sending to a few domains, the addresses i KNOW are valid as i can send from a different exchange server and they get there no problem, i've setup an smtp connector to go through our ISP smarthost and they still come back, but this time from the ISP rather than our exchange server. here is the NDR: The following recipient(s) cannot be reached: user@rcptdomain on 8/13/2008 2:29 PM The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Hello, With Exchange 2007, is it possible to have 1 SMTP connector (port 25) for a ip range with authentification, and another SMTP connector (PORT 25 two) without authentification ??? Why ? Because, i use the authentification connector for all my client but my ISA 2006 server couldn't send its notifications.. I see no option to authentificate the mail notifications...     - change password at next logon I have exchange 2007 CAS, running on Server 2008 using IIS7. we have a password change policy and many of my users use OWA only, now all users are able to use the OWA password change when they are logged into their mailbox, but when a password is changed and the option for the user to change password at next logon checked, or the password allowed to expire the user cant login to OWA. i have this working currently on the current live servers (server 2003, exchange 2007) using the iisadmpwd mrthod but i cant get it to work under server 2008. can anyone help?     - Exchange 2000-2007 Migration Delegate Permissions Hi, We are just finishing off a migration from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007. The clients are running Outlook 2002. When I shutdown the Exchange 2000 services, the users who have delegate permissions to open other user's calendars etc, get a message when they try and open the other folder saying that Outlook is unable to access the information store. If I start the Exchange 2000 services they can open the folders as usual. My question is, when the mailboxes are moved from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007are the delegate permissions migrated? Or is there an issue where the Outlook 2002 profiles are still pointing to the old Exchange server and will the issue be resolved if the profiles are recreated?     - Question about transition to Exch 2k7 I'm doing a transition from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. My current Exchange 2003 environment consists of two FE servers for OWA (and it's a bridgehead), and a BE Exchange 2-node cluster. My plan is to have two Exchange 2007 CAS/Hub Transport servers to replace the Exchange 2003 FE servers, and then an Exchange 2007 Mailbox server in a cluster to replace the existing Exchange 2003 BE cluster. I plan to first introduce the first Exchange 2007 servers with both the CAS and Hub Transport roles, and then add the Exchange 2007 Mailbox server cluster afterwards. Could someone please tell me if this plan makes sense? I understand the CAS and Hub Transport roles should be in place before adding an Exchange 2007 mbox server.     - ActiveSync Standard Setup with only 1 FE Exchange 2003 Server I am having a hard time getting my Windows Mobile Phone (Motorola Q) to sync with Exchange 2003 SP2 running on Windows Server 2003 SP2. I have set up dozens of small business servers without a problem, but the IIS directories look a bit different. Is there a best practices guide available for how to implement this on Exchange 2003? I have a certificate installed from GoDaddy, Port 443 open (Can browse to OWA externally), and have checked the Exchange, OMA, Activesync virtual directories settings and compared the settings to one of our SBS 2003 Servers that can sync without a problem. The settings match, but still can't sync. Do I need the Exchange-OMA Virtual Directory? I thought I finally stumbled upon the answer with this article, but it still doesn't work. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379 Created a directory, checked settings, still no luck.     - Internal 2003<->2007 Messages stuck in queues and Outgoing Messages Hello Everyone, Thanks in advance for your help. I just installed an Exchange 2007 server into our organization. Our organization consists of one Exchange 2003 server and this new Exchange 2007 server. I moved one test mailbox over to the new Exchange server. I cannot send messages from any account on the 03 server or from the outside to the 07 server. Also I cannot send messages to the 03 server or to the outside from the 07 server. The Routing Group Connectors are present and I have tried recreating them with both the 2003 console and the 2007 console. Messages from the 2003 server and outside just get stuck in the queue on the 2003 server. Messages from the 2007 server just disappear. They do not show up in the 2007 queue and they are not stuck in the outbox. Once I send the message I can find no trace of it except in the sent items folder. [We will be going live shortly.] Letâ??s say the email is being delivered to www.ourdomain.com. Pop3 connector downloads the email from www.ourdomain.com to our exchanger server and each â??exchange server mailbox userâ?? receives their email in Outlook 2003. We also have employees who are not connected to our exchange server and are not â??exchange server mailbox usersâ?? but continue to download their email directly from www.ourdomain.com to their individual computers. When one of the exchange server mailbox users sends an email to an employee who is not an exchange server mailbox user their email is returned undeliverable to the exchange server mailbox user.     - Removing Second Domain from Exchange HELP! Hi Everyone, We have a single Exchange 2003 server running in our organization. Recently we acquired a seperate company, let's call them company b. We used the single exchange server to host their mail through Recipient policies and such. The companies have again split, and we have removed the email addresses, user accounts and recipient policies for company B. Problem is, our mailserver still thinks it holds some control of company B domain as it won't go out and forward mail to that address... any address @companyb.com comes back as undeliverable as account doesn't exist (since it feels it is responsible for them...)...     - Single Exchange Server 2003 Environment I have a single exchange server environment, where I am running OWA, and need to configure active sync and also inable imap for iphone connection. By default imap is disable on a exchange box, which is easy enough to enable, but if I am not in a front-end/back-end topology how does one create the virtual server for imap? After enabling imap a virtual server is 'created' by default, but I can not connect using imap from a OE session. If I am not mistaken imap is disabled by default. In order to run imap or other related services is it absolutely necessary to use a front end/back end topology? I'd like to get this working within a single server environment due to some severe budget constraints. From what I have been reading it suggested to run services like OWA, imap, etc on a separate server, but I would think there is a way to run all services on a single box, although probably not recommended.     - Exchange 2003 Disk Configuration? I've six new 15k 300gb SAS drives to go in our SAN. They will be dedicated to an Exchange 2003 SP2 Virtual Machine running on ESX 3.5. The current physical Exchange box has around 190gb of databases on it, with a 140/50gb split between private/public store, and approx 400 users. With this new build I want to have three mailbox stores each with different quotas (seems the simplest way to do quotas without doing it per user). Question is what to do with the physical/virtual LUNs i.e. Single big physical RAID10 and one virtual LUN Single big physical RAID10 and serveral virtual LUNs And so on. It's not what I'd call a performance setup, people are mostly horders, but I would of course like it as fast as possible without being wasteful of space. We have other RAID1 or RAID10 VMWare LUNs in the SAN and I was going to have the OS/logs image on one of those and these disks are really just for the databases/storage. I do nightly backups using ntbackup to disk then stream that to tape, though I may be getting the Commvault Exchange agent at some point. The daily logs never go beyond a couple of gig. My gut reaction is a single physical RAID10 and one virtual LUN and a single partition within Windows as then I'm not limiting myself with regards to running out of space in a single area.     - transport rule add text query Hi, I hope this is the right newsgroup. I notice some transport rules questions have already been sent to this group. I have a transport rule which takes email received to a particular mailbox, adds some text to the bottom as an xml tag, and forwards it to a partner service, which does stuff with the emails. The tag is currently all static text, but we now have a requirement to add an xml tag in the format: <email name='senders email address'> Is there a way to use the transport rule to extract the senders email address, and allow me to add it to the bottom of the email as an xml text?     - Enable content filtering with no edge server I have a single server config for Exchange 2007. I'm trying to figure out how to enable content filtering, but the technet documentation only tells you how to do this if you have an edge server. I've seen threads on this newsgroup from people who have configured this on servers without edge, but I have not been able to find anyplace that tells me how to do this.     - How do I remove Exchange server from DMZ? I have been tasked to remove a front-end Exchange server that exists in the DMZ of the network. This server is not needed anymore and probably should not have been setup in the first place. Are there any special things to look out for? Can I just shut it down then delete it from System Manager?     - Exchange 2003 Active Sync setup I'm owrking on getting Active Sync setup. I think I have everything in place but can not seem to get it working. Here is our setup: Have a Exchange 2003 FE on the internal network setup only for active sync not for OWA. Have a ISA 2006 server in the DMZ. We are not using ISA as our firewall. It's only used for active sync. We have port 443 configured on our firewall for inbound and out bound to the ISA server and between ISA and Exchange FE. I'm not seeing anything unusual in the event logs and while trying to sync with a mobile device have monitored the ISA logs. In the ISA logs we see the user logon and the communication between ISA and EAS but the the connection drops. Not sure what else to do to get this working.     - Public Folder Locations We are about to deploy Exch07 in our Exch03 enviroment. We will run in mixed mode for a period of time. Our clients are all running Outlook 2003. We have one Exchange org. Two physical locations with two AD sites connected by 100 meg circuit. We are deploying a CCR solution in each site. We also have seperate Client Access/Hub Transport and UM servers. We are wondering where the best location for our public folder store would be since it is not recommended to be hosted on the clusters. We are considering placing it on the Client Access/Hub Transport box, since the database is only 20 gig and does not get a lot of use. However, we do not have large number of spindles we can dedicated to it. Most likely a mirrored set of drives. We do not have a large user community. 300 in total, but the system is heavily used.     - Exchange2003 install first server in new admin group I've already setup an E2K3 Org and also an admin group with Exchange2003 servers. I'm trying to install the first Exchange 2003 server in a child domain in it's own admin group in the same ORG. The Exchange setup loads, I select custom install, and then select the appropriate admin group. The next screen prompts me for a service acount. "The Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services component requires a user name, domain, and password for the exisiting Exchange 5.5 installation service acount. Type the information fields below." There has never been an installation of Exchange 5.5. Everything here is native 2003, and the username and domain are greyed out.     - Emails deleted when an Outlook account is setup ... Hello, I am facing an unwanted problem of my emails getting deleted from the server whenever I starts my MS-Outlook 2003 client, to access my emails on the Exchange-2003 Server. I am not sure why it moves all the emails from Server to the local machine. I can not see any such obvious setting in the Outlook client. This behavior restrict me to access my emails from one machine only. Once, the outlook client is setup on one machine to access the exchange account, I can not use OWA on another machine to check my messages, since they are already moved to the local machine that has Outlook client configured.     - Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 Hey guys... really need some advice. I just installed an Windows Server 2003 with Exchange 2003. While trying to obtain the information from the older Windows 2000 Server with Exchange 5.5, I recieved many errors that I didn't feel like looking up. So instead, I just backed up all the mailboxes by making .PST files within each user's MS Outlook 2003. I then created new email accounts for all users, and set the Outlook programs to use the new server instead of old. Last, imported the PST files to the new accounts. Now when the users try to respond to old internal mail (before the new server installation) they get it shot back. When I put my mouse over a user's name, I noticed that the new emails have the address: jhancock@mydomain.com, but the old emails say: EX:/O=my company/OU=mydomain/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=JOHNH The returned email recieved the following error: John Hancock on 8/4/2008 5:22 PM The message could not be delivered because the recipient's destination email system is unknown or invalid. Please check the address and try again, or contact your system administrator to verify connectivity to the email system of the recipient. <newserver.mydomain.com #5.1.2> I have no idea why this is happening... any tips to resolve this???     - Exchange Server ActiveSync issue -- Really need some help MS ISA2006 --> Exchange Server 2003/ver 6.5.7638.1 Problem: Not getting any mails in ActiveSync client I'm extremely close in solving this problem but need a little assitance. I have verified that the iPhone I'm testing with is getting al the way through from iPhone -->IAS -->Exchange 2003 server. The ISA server doesn't report any blocked packets. I can get to the virtual directory from a browser and get the error, "HTTP 501/HTTP 505". The only info I get in the application log is the following: Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync has been loaded: Process ID: [2528]. This is EventID: 3002 source Server ActiveSync I don't know what else to check and it's very frustrating being so close but yet so far. Any thoughts out there? its absolutley different than 2003. You got several different types of
clusters and different way to do what your doing. Take a look at my site.

steps as well.
