    - Migrate from 2 Exchange 5.5 Sites to 1 Exchange 2003 Srv Hello All Wer're currently in the process of upgrading our TWO NT4 domains/TWO Exchange 5.5 Srv to ONE AD 2003/ONE Exchange 2003 Srv architecture Current Setup - one pdc, one bdc for the first domai - one pdc, one bdc for the second domai - Exchange Srv 1 is in the first domai - Exchange Srv 2 is in the second domai - the tow Exchange Srv are in the same org but in to different site Final Choosen Setup - two dc in the final A - one Exchange 2003 server in the new AD and in the same old or Migration path for the two NT4 domain should be Ok (using ADMT and scripts) But we've some questions about how to migrate our two Exchange 5.5 server into the Exchange 2003 srv If we had only one Exchange 5.5, the migration should be quite easy as the the new server will be in the same org: we can put the 2003 in the same site that the old 5.5 and use the deployement tools (netdiag, dcdiag, domainprep, forestprep, ADC, Exchange 2003, move mailboxes, pfmigrate) MS documentation But how to handle the case of the two server in two sites (but same org) Should we first consolidate our two 5.5 into one (and if so, how ?), and then migrate to 2003 Or is it possible to migrate one 5.5 srv to the 2003 (the one in the same site), then the second (and if so how, as the second server will be in a different site that the new 2003) It seems that with Exchange 2003 sp1 it is now possible to move mailboxes from one 5.5 in a different site... but we're not sure And what about the public folders..     - Exchange 2003 Install Gone Bad-Lost Connection to 5.5 Server Exchange install was going smooth (should have known something bad was going to happen). All the prep steps went fine, got ADC installed, all good, connection agreements set and verified. Started exchange 2003 install. System kept erroringout when it tried to replicate. Checked DNSissues did not dind any problems, tried checking the LDAP connection by running ldp (this is were I messed up) but ldp program crashed when I tried binding to the 5.5 server. Now I am getting MSADC errors of: LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory NTSERVER for distinguished name 'FARIA\Administrator'. Directory returned error:[0x51] Server Down. (Connection Agreement 'Users: fariaservers.uncasville.com - FARIA\Thomas G. Faria Corp' #3112) and: LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory NTSERVER for distinguished name 'FARIA\Administrator'. Directory returned error:[0x51] Server Down. (Connection Agreement 'Public Folders: fariaservers.uncasville.com - FARIA\Thomas G. F' #3116) I have un-installed exchange 2003.     - Removing an old server We recently moved all our users from an exchange 2000 cluster to exchange2003 cluster. In preparation fro decommissioning the old cluster I performed the tasks in Q307917. We then shut down the old cluster and everything is fine.     - setup failed installing sub-component Required machine level settings Hi, Need help on exchange 2003 sever setup joining an existing exchange 5.5 organization. Exchange messaging and collaboration sevices setup fails with error " Setup failed while installing sub-component Required machine level settings with error code 0xC0070005 check log etc" I clicked cancel and other error after setup finished is "Access denied, Facility W32, ID NO: C0070005, exchange server setup". I ran all the deployement tools successfully. Progress bar shows " Configuring registry enteries for required machine level settings" when error occured. Please help.     - DominPrep Fails on Chid domain When I try to run domainprep on one of my child domains I get the following error: "Setup failed while installing sub-component Domain-level permissions with error code 0x8000500C (please consult the installation logs for a detailed description). You may cancel the installation or try the failed setup again." When I click "retry" I get the same message. When I click "cancel" I get the following error message: "The data type cannot be converted to/from a native DS data type. ID no 8000500c Mirosoft Exchange Setup" I am logged on to this box as the domain administrator account while running domainprep. Forest prep ran fine on the parent domain.     - Domain Rename - Exchange 2003 SP1 Hi We want to rename our Windows Server 2003 domain that also has Exchange server 2003. Can anyone tell me if the (Exchange Domain Rename Fixup) XDR-Fixup tool is available now or would I need to wait until the 8th June. This tool has added steps to the normal domain rename tool.     - OWA logon issue We have accounts in multiple domains. We have one exchange 2003 server. People are complaining that they have to type their domain name and a backslash before their username to logon to OWA. Is there any way in a multi-Windows 20003 domain environment to have users in all domains just type their username (without "domain\username") and password to logon to OWA 2003? Thanks.     - Migrating users from seperate organisation I have a scenario where we currently are part of a much larger parent companies Exchange 5.5 Organisation.     - IIS 6.0 - mangled icons in OWA Hi, We installed OWA on an Exchange Server 2003 (on Windows Server 2003) and had some problems configuring the Default Website in IIS 6.0. The results is that all the icons are now mangled and the pages are not loading. The loading process stay there but doesn't seem to go anywhere! What should we do, reinstall IIS?     - Exdeploy - Orgnamecheck failure When running the Exchange 2003 server deployment tools (Exdeploy) as part of our migration from Exchange 5.5 I keep getting the following error message in the Exdeploy logs: "Error: Organization or site display name 'mydomain.com' in the Exchange 5.5 directory contains a leading space, trailing space, or one or more of the following unsupported characters: ~`!@#$%^&*()_+={}[]|\:;"'<,>.?/" Note: I changed the display name for security reasons but the real name is of similar format; I've seen other people post similar questions but have not yet seen an answer or solution to this problem.     - Exchange 2k3 will not continue I am trying to install our first exchange 2k3 server in a 2000 domain/5.5 site. In december, our exchange 5.5 server crashed due to a virus and we had to rebuild and restore to another server. This server is currently running and the old one cannot be brought back up. while going through 2k3 setup, it stops and states: Setup cannot continue because one or more of the following: Could not bind to the Microsoft Exchange Directory server (old server name). The Microsoft Exchange Server computer does not respond. I have looked through documentation and nothing is helping. Anyone seen this yet or how I can fix this issue?     - E23k to E2k Email forwarding We currently have a e2k server doing all our email. This includes emails that forwarding to other sites and services that take up large amounts of bandwidth. We want to limit our bandwidth usage in the office so we decided to setup an Exchange 2003 Server in colocation, but on the same domain. The idea was that our mx records would point to the new server in colo and this would handle all our mail. My question is as follows 1. What is the best way of forwarding only the relevant mail to our e2k server in the office, and continue to forward other mail to other sites and services?     - clean install of win 2003 & exch 2003 Hi I just had some problems with my server, so my disks are all destroyed. So, I`ve installed win 2003 server enterprise and exchange 2003. Everything goes smooth but i cant get the mail to work. Even when i go into AD and add a user, i cant get the folder where i shall insert the mail specs either. It must be something i`ve forgot. Also when i go into system manager and rightclick on the upper line, and chose internet mail wizard, that is not working either. Could someone please help me?     - Exchange 2003 and 5.5 coexistance questions (Pimp my migration) I have a Windows 2000 AD environment and Exchange 5.5 running on NT4. I've read the planning guide and the deployment guide and I've run the exchange server deployment tool. It all looks pretty simple on paper and I've decided to join the new server to my existing exchange 5.5 organization and gradually move mailboxes over until I'm confident the server is working properly. I just have a few small questions. 1. Will the outlook profile on the workstation really update automatically and point to the new server once I move the mailbox? 2. What happens to incoming and outgoing mail (SMTP)? Will this continue to be handled by Exchange 5.5 or will Exchange 2003 handle this? 3. My exchange 5.5 server has 20 different containers with mailboxes in each. Will this pose a problem when moving mailboxes? 4. Anything else others who have done this might want to share with me?     - Trouble With Routing Groups I'm having trouble with routing groups. I am working with a customer that has two different locations. The locations are connected to each other via point to point T1. Each location has an Exchange server which are both in the same organization. I've configured both Exchange servers initially in the same routing group and have a Internet connector installed in the routing group. I'm using the * for the SMTP address space with a cost of 1. My problem is when I create a second routing group, move my 2nd server into the new routing group, and create the routing group connector, the two sites stop passing mail between each other. Mail sent to recipients in the same organization, but with mailboxes on a different server than the originating message go into a queue called messages with an unreachable destination, or something to that effect. Does anyone know what may be going wrong? Oh yes!!! And the queue for the routing group connector is in a retry state saying the connection was dropped by the remote host. I believe it is doing that on each server. When I put the servers back into the original routing group, everything flows nicely again. Also, is a point-to-point full T1 considered enough bandwidth to leave them in the same routing group if I need to? Thanks Much Allen Tag: GAL is empty Tag: 116409

    - 2003 migration without access to sites? I saw a post made to the exchange newsgroup a few weeks back. Would anyone be able to field a question I have with pretty much the same scenario as the one they were assisting someone else with? Essentially it was the situation where a user was doing a 5.5 to 2003 migration to one of his exchange sites. He had one exchange organization, two exchange sites, each site in a different domain (UK and US). Since the teams worked separately, he didn't have admin access to the domain/accounts in the US, but wanted to setup a 5.5/2003 server coexistance. I'm in the same boat, but the difference being, that in the end, we will have different 2003 AD forests for US and UK (the person who posted the message on the newsgroup was eventually going to bring the other office into his forest, so there was the issue of setting up placecards, etc...) My domain is in the US, we've migrated to 2003 AD, and now want to migrate our 5.5 server data to a separate server (coexist install of 2003 exchange), and have no idea when the UK is going to get around to moving their domain structure...or exchange 5.5 server...to AD or exchange 2003. Because of this, we've setup a 2003 forest for the US, and the UK team will someday be setting up a 2003 forest and we'll create a forest trust....again...keeping everything separate. My main goal right now is to find the proper path from 5.5 to 2003, without requiring adjustments or touching the UK boxes...but in the end, still allowing my US users on 2003 exchange and the UK 5.5 users to share GALs and public folder data. *Any* tips or suggestions you have are greatly appreciated. I've been looking for a while and looking at various docs, newsgroup posts, etc...and they always seem to refer to situations where I would have control over the security rights for all the domains involved with my 5.5 exchange site connectors.     - Exchange 2003 and ISA Server Configuration Not sure if this should be posted here or the ISA Server boards... I have set up a 2003 Server Standard box with ISA server installed and connected to th internet which is working fine. This is set up as a member server and not a DC. 2 NIC's installed, one connected to our hardware firewall and one connected to the internal network I am setting up Exchange 2003 on a 2003 Server Standard box that is currently the PDC/DNS/WINS server (will spread these functions out to other servers after I recover the hardware that is running our current Exchange 5.5 server) Our Email is forwarded to us from the company hosting our domain name to a specific IP address, which is currently the external IP of exchange 5.5 server My goal is to change the internet side IP address of the ISA to the one our current 5.5 server is recieving email on (after I migrate the mailboxs) and forwarding that in to the new Exchange 2003 server Is this a workable plan?     - Uninstalling ADC Migration from Exch 5.5 to 2003. Have installed ADC and setup connection agreements. Have run forest & domain prep. Exchange is not yet installed. Now I have to uninstall ADC as we then have to reinstall the Exch 2000 version. Was told to use add remove programs and uninstall Microsoft Active directory connector. Following prompts Get a message saying setup has detected one or more connection agreements associated with this ADC you must first delete the CA's or configure them to run under a different connector before attempting to remove this connector service How do I delete the connection agreements.     - "No properties available on this object!" Using Exchange 2003 System manager, I was able to move a single mailbox from 5.5 server to the new 2003 server. The problem is that I cannot see any property of this mailbox (on 2003 server) nor any of the mailboxes on the 5.5 server.     - 5.5 restore problem with Information store Hello, Here is the scenario running 5.5 across nt4 resource domain and w2k AD domain. Target exchange server is in NT4 resource domain and is a bdc, exchange 5.5 sp3. service account to run exchange is in w2k domain. I need to restore a public folder that resides on nt4 server. I have built a replica server. In additon i have built a PDC for the nt4 resoucre domain to allow authentication wwith the cross domain service account. I have also built a AD domain DC acting as PDC emulator to authenticate the service account. I have done an online restore of the information store and the directory to the 'dummy box'. When i reboot the box and the services start the log files are replaed into the databases. System attendant starts no problem, so does the directory. But i get errors with the information store. Service specific erro 4021. And 'information store could not start because of error 0xfb5' in the event log. If i start the excahge admin program i get DS_E_ACCESS DENIED I would guess my service account dosent have correct permissions to start or access the information store, but i see no obvious way to correct this and technet isnt much help. Now I got to the POST-INSTALLATION steps Here are a question that I have before carrying out any of the post isntallation steps: Can I leave the Internet mail service (IMS) on the 5.5 server so that we can send/receive internet email even though all user mailboxes are to move to the new 2003 Exchange server?     - Forwarding a NDR to selected recipients. Message is sent to all original recipients I recently set a 2 MB limit on incoming messages. I received a NDR for a message that was sent from an external organization to about 30 people, 4 of which are users on our system. The message had a 5 MB attachment and i received an NDR. I then forwarded the message to the four users on our system. I did not use the send again feature but rather the forward feature. I any event the message was delivered to all of the original recipients not just our 4 users. In the sent item the To: field only shows our 4 users, yet everyone on the origianl list recieved a copy. Therefore, I will post this new thread in hopes that my specific setup can be addressed. I currently have the following servers in my organization with one domain: Server 1 - Win 2K (SP4) AD (Domain controller) Server 2 - Win NT 4.0 (SP6a) (MS Exchange 5.5) Server 3 - Win NT 4.0 (SP6a) (Faxing Service software) After my upgrade my organization will look like one of these two Scenarios: Scenario 1 Server 1 - Win 2K (SP4) AD (Domain controller) Server 2 - Win 2003 (SP1) AD (MS Exchange 2003) (New Hardware) Server 3 - Win NT 4.0 (SP6a) (Faxing Service software) Scenario 2 Server 1 - Win 2003 (SP1) AD (Domain controller) Server 2 - Win 2003 (SP1) AD (MS Exchange 2003) (New Hardware) Server 3 - Win NT 4.0 (SP6a) (Faxing Service software) Question 1 Is one of these two scenarios (not) do-able? Recommendations? Question 2: When I run the ExDeploy tools, do I run them on Server 1 or Server 2? Of course if I run them on server 2 it would be after I install Win Server 2003. Question 3: Once I have Exchange 2003 installed and have moved my mailboxes and public folders to the new server, will I have to create new profiles in Outlook on my users PC's? I have read in places that I will not but, does that mean that Outlook will automatically change the exchange server name from the old name to the new server name in the Outlook profile configuration when the users open Outlook for the first time? Question 4: I have, in users' outlook profiles, copies of Public folder Contacts in their Public folder Favorites. This means when the main Public folders Contacts are updated the copies (Favorites) are automatically updated. These favorites are listed in each users profile address search list and are available when the user is off-line. Will these contacts become disconnected when the Public folders are moved from 5.5 to 2003? In other words, will I have to re-select the address lists in each users profile to point to the favorites again? I hope I have described this clearly.     - Mail flowing only one way between Routing Group Connectors We have 2 exchange 2003 servers in separate Routing Groups. One server is in the child domain, the other in the root domain. After having created Routing Group connectors on each server, mail can now flow from the root domain exchange server to the child domain server but not in the other direction. Users have the ability to Send As three different mail accounts other than their personal Exchange ones. What I need to is to set up a rule so that when a user sends from one of these three accounts, the message (instead of sitting in their personal sent items) gets routed to a Sent Items folder set up within a Public Folder. So, eg, when they Send As account 1, a copy of the outgoing message gets routed to Public Folders\Account 1\ Sent Items..etc Outlook rules don't seem to want to know about the outgoing From address, and I can't see anything in the rules creation within OWA that allows this either. Hello All, Here is what I did... ran adc w/god rights.. ran forestprep w/the same ran domainprep w/the same configured adc, it was slick and very clean (planning helps!) went to install exch 2003 stand. and all hell broke loose!!! the first account w/all permissions would not allow install from get go...blah blah blah no permissions to modify deleted something or another... second account, not an ex 5.5 admin but fully loaded on AD some issues I cannot discuss...bottom line this account got to the part where you are asked for 5.5 server name to check...that failed w/a similar msg. telling me I have no rights. The problem, I have at this point loaded all accounts, I also delete the log file in the root as well. The accounts I run have been migrated w/admt just for fun... The domains are obvi. different NT 4.0 SAM vs W2003S AD My motto; when all else fails go back to basics...when basics fail hope someone is in the same boat and posts...     - mailbox can't open Hi, After I move all mail from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003, everything works fine. I want move public folder from 5.5 to 2003. I setup connector in the ADC, after this pub connector replicated, all mailbox marked with red x. no body can get email. Look like the active directory tell the Outlook to get mail from 5.5. and I open 5.5 exchange manager, all users come back. but mail home server still say it in the 2003. In the 2003 mail manager, right click mailbox, say reconnect, you can't get that user again. all users gone. I don't know why the Public connector could cause this problem. any help appreciate. Hello, this problem is being caused by two things. 1) the fact that you are using a POP3 mailbox at your service provider to collect email messages for later distribution. The POP3 mailbox was never designed to do this. It will cause problems for messages that are BCC or send from mailing lists as the POP3 mailbox can not handle these messages correctly. The best solution is to change to use an SMTP store and forward type of account. Also called an SMTP gateway, SMTP relay or SMTP dialup account. This does not have these problems. Please talk to your ISP to find out if they offer these types of accounts...... 2) The version of the mail server you are using is too old to understand the new formats and changes made to emails and attachments over the last 4 years. This is what causes some messages with attachments to have problems. The only way to fix this is to upgrade your version of the mail server. I have recently installed the first Exchange 2003 server
into an Exchange 5.5 environment. The ADC seems to be
working correctly and all attributes seem fine when viewed
via ADSI.

However when using an Outlook client the Global Address
List is empty. Also on the server the Offline Address Book
fails to create with Event warning 951, stating that the
GAL is empty therefore no OAB will be created. However if
I use the preview button within the settings of
the 'Default Global Address List' in System Manager it
correctly displays all mailboxes and DLs. The recipient
update service also seems to be working OK. I can move
mailboxes and everything else seems fine.

I am confused and stuck, please help!

Do you have multiple Domain Controllers/Global Catalog Servers? Maybe the
GC that your client is talking to doesn't have the information replicated to
it.

If you go into Active Directory Users and Computers do you see the 5.5 users
listed in the OU you specified in the ADC Recipient agreement you created?
Do you have a one way or a two way ADC recipient agreement?
