Help needed on installing OWA
Hi all,
Presently installed on my NT4/SP6a Server is Exchange 5.5/SP4, MS Proxy
2/SP1 & IIS4. This server is not used as a Web Server.
I want to install OWA to give our users access to their email accounts while
off site.
Are there any important considerations or procedures that I should be aware
of before proceeding? Will the SPs need to be reapplied, will other
hotfixes/SP4s need to be installed, things I need to be aware of etc. etc.
Or, is it just a matter of running the Exchange setup and selecting OWA to
install.
I've looked on the net for installation installation but nothing seems to
suit my configuration, so if anyone knows of something can you please let me
know.
Thanks in advance.

Outlook Web Access with Exchge 2003
I just installed Exchange 2003 and I can use IE6 to open http://localhost/exchange to use Outlook Web Access. Once I'm logged in, however, it seems that none of the buttons work (like "New", "Log Off", "Help", etc.) When I click on these buttons, IE6 says there's an "error on page" down in the lower left bottom bar.
I can see my Inbox, contacts, etc. But I can't create any new email (because the button for "New" doesn't do anything). Anyone know what might be happening

Re: Exchange pop3 service
Yes, the Microsoft Exchange pop service has been set to automatic startup.
The service starts in the services section of W2K3. But shows stopped in the
Exchange Systems Manager. And when you try to start it in the Microsoft
Systems Manager, it generates a event log message, that port 110 is already
in use.... Of course it is by exchange. Getting weirder as we go, netstat -a
does not show port 110 in use at all and I can not telnet to the port.
Thanks,
John

migrate e2k to e2k3 but on new hardware
got a existing e2k running and have a new server with windows 2003
which I need to migrate the existing database to the windows 2003
exchange. There is loads of info about installing the windows 2003
exchange on the new server and then replicating the two servers. Once
that is done I then have to uninstall the e2k server. Is there not an
easier way where I can move the store and then reimport it into the
new w2k3.
Any safer way. Tag: email Tag: 106692

Echange 2003 DomainPrep on Child Domain
I have an Exchange 2000 native mode server running on
Windows 2000 SP4 in a Windows 2000/2003 mixed mode child
domain. Forestprep & domainprep ran OK in the parent
domain (Windows 2003 Native). Domainprep fails in the
child domain with the following error:
Error code 0XC0070560 (1376): The specified local group
does not exist.
All groups seem to be OK as Exchange 2000 runs fine.
The following groups:
Exchange Domain Servers
Exchange Enterprise Servers
Exchange Services
are in the Users folder in the child domain.
Has anyone come across this and if so , have they found a
solution to it.
I can't find anything on the knowledgebase referring to
this error.
Any help would be appreciated.

ID 1022 in mixed environment
Hi all,
following szenario:
Parent domain:
W2k domain abc.local in mixed mode, exchange 5.5 server as bridgeheat
server, adc installed on first w2k dc (seems to work fine).
Child domain:
W2k domain xyz.abc.local in native mode, exchange 2000 server (updated from
5.5). Exchange servers are all installed into the same site.
For the exchange update process in child domain I used a switch server,
moved all mailboxes and public folders to the new server, updated the
existing one to e2k and moved all objects back to the "old" server.
After completion I uninstalled the switch server.
Mail traffic and public folder replication are ok but the application log of
the e2k server is full of event id´s 1022 and 9562.
For updating I used the required master exchange account from the parent
domain. But the errors messages I get says that this account could not logon
to first administrative group (1022) and that the attribute
msExchUserAccountControl from ad could not be read (9562). These messages
are logged for all exchange admin accounts and everytime a user from the
exchange 5.5 server sends mail to the exchange 2000 server.
Is there something wrong with my adc-configuration?
Hope to get some new input.

Port Forwarding for Mobile Activesynch
I have replaced my company's Exchange servewr with 2003.
Everything is working great (IMAP, POP, SMTP, OWA).
However, I am trying to implement mobile activesync for
use with pocket pc phones. The phones use the server
sync fine from inside the network when hard wired through
a host PC. However, any attempt to initiate a sync to
the static IP of the firewall results in a failure to
find the exhange server. What ports need to be directed
to the exchange server in order to get mobile active sync
to work from the internet through the firewall to the
exchange server residing in the DMZ?

5.5 Migration to a new 2003 domain
Hello all,
Our company wants to build a new 2003 domain, install
exchange 2003 and move our NT4 to the new domain,
including exhange 5.5 mailboxes. How do we go about doing
this? Do we need ADC or can we just use Exchange migration
tool? The new domain is built and the trust relationship
is in place. Is there any documentation that deals with
this exact scenario.

Exchange pop3 service
I have a win2k3 exchange server running. But I can not start the pop
service from within the System Manager.
When I try to start it, it returns this error message in the system log
An error occurred while starting the Microsoft Exchange POP3 Service: server
instance number 1 failed to start with error 0x800cc801.
Which is an indication that the service is all ready running or at least
something has that port open.
When I look into the services, I can see that the MS Exchange pop3 service
has started. But I can not telnet into port 110 at all. Somthing strange is
going on.... This is a fresh install.

Move MailBox from exch 5.5 to e2k3 fails
I am trying to do move mailbox from my Exchange 5.5
environment to E2k3 information store.
My test environment is setup like this:
Domain name: mydom_dom
DNS Name: mydom.co.county.st.us
srvr1: w2k running in w2k native mode, Exchange 5.5, SP4
srvr2: w2k3 member server to the w2k domain. running e2k3
The ADC is installed and configured.
I have successfully replicated public folders between the
POs. I am not able to complete a move mail box between
the two Post offices. I receive an error about the mapi
server not being available. MAPI 1.0 ID no: 80040111-0286-
00000000.
Microsoft suggests I ensure the Server is online. (It is;
I can sign in to the Information store.)
Any suggestions to fix this are greatly appreciated. If I
need to provide you with additional details please let me
know.

Exchange 2003 co-existence with Exchange 2K

I am planing to move my existing Exchange 2000 to Exchange=20

Mailbox migration.=20
However, I am also migrating to a new Windows 2003 domain.=20
The trust between the existing and the new domain is in=20
order and working.
However, when I install Exchange 2003 in my new domain I=20
cannot join the existing Organization. It is not network=20
related.
The install wizard also only displays the option for=20
joining an existing Exchange 5.5 Organization.
What is going wrong?
Can it be because my new domain is in another forest?
What=B4s the alternative way to go?
Any help would be appreciated.

when to join exc2k server to exc5.5 site?
Hi,
I am busy building my exc2k server in my AD domain and want to migrate all
existing exch5.5 containers to my exc2k server. I see to do this you have to
add the 2k serverr to the 5.5 site. I have the trust in place. At what stage
do i do this???
From what i have seen or the recommended way is:
1) create two-way trust
2) run forestprep
3) run domainprep
4) install ADC
5) install exc2k and move mailboxes
6) remove exc5.5
when u run forestprep it asks you if you want to join an existing exc5.5 org
or create new one. Now i tried to join my exc5.5 one but obviously could not
as AD has no clue of the exc5.5 data. So at what point and how do i achieve
the join? I guess I have to join the same org and site to move mailboxes
right?

RPC over HTTP: "Insufficient memory."
Scenario: XP SP1 with the latest hotfixes, connecting via OL2003 to
Exch2003 running on Win2003. Have configured all per the Exch deployment
docs.
From the client, RPCPING is able to successfully hit the server. The
server can also RPCPING itself. Both times, RPCPING is set to use the
HTTP proxy.
Using:
rpcping -t ncacn_http -s servername -o RpcProxy=servername -H 1 -u 10 -a
connect -F 3 -E -R none -P "user,domain,*"
(BTW, you cannot get the RPCPING to complete from a Win2003 machine
acting as a client; apparantly the patch that makes this work on XP SP1
isn't incorporated into the default Win2003 install)
However, when trying to get Outlook to connect:
1. Launch Outlook
2. Immediately get auth dialog; sign in w/valid credentials
3. Immediate error: "The operation could not be completed due to
insufficient memory. Close one or more applicatins to make more memory
available."
Alas, OL is the only thing running on a machine with 1GB.
There is only one server involved here, it's both a DC, GC, RpcProxy
server, and Exchange FE/BE server. I swear this worked back in Exch2003
RC1 for a while. I've re-verified my reg keys and everything else on the
server-side of the configuration.
Any ideas? I've not seen anything in the KB that relates to this, nor in
the newsgroups.
Thanks!

Inheritance broken?
I have an Exchange 2000 server in a native AD forest

running domain prep reset these permissions to the
default DENY condition? If so, will it remove or change
any other ACLs that were set on the users account?

Remote office Setup.
Hi all,
Here's our situation:
We have several remote offices that currently connect to our main
office using a VPN. E-mail access, because of the user's need for full
functionality is currently handled by Exchange 2K with outlook 2K
clients via citrix, which said users are unsatisfied with. (Citrix
performance being the issue)
We'd like to limit "full time" citrix use, publishing certain
applications instead of entire desktop environments. This is all well
and good, but our stumbling block is email.
Connection speeds:
Main Office: E10 fiber (6Mbps)
Remote Offices: Varies from Cable Modem to 1.5 Mbps SDSL - depending
on number of users, which varies from 3 to 15ish.
I'm aware of options from running outlook as if the remote users are
on our lan (which might be slow), to installing several exchange
servers (which will be an expensive PITA), to setting up POP3,
although none of these options seem acceptable.
Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to best achieve this?

Pop Connector - Global Mailbox problem
I have set up under the pop3 connector to grab email from
my ISP's pop3 server.
I have specified that the pop3 mailbox is a global
mailbox in the pop3 connector settings.
I have then set up a routing rule that if the recipient
name is test then it will route to the "test" users
exchange mailbox.
The event logs show that the email is being received and
and being routed to the correct exchange mailbox but when
I open that mailbox the message is not there.
Any ideas on what the problem is here?
Thanks

2003 Mailbox Migration Wizard
I am moving our NT4 Exhange 5.5 to 2003 and having to go
about things in a round about way as 5.5 was sitting on
our PDC so couldnt upgrade the server to Windows 2003.
The story so far is that I have setup another server as a
NT4 bdc then upgraded that to the PDC and upgraded the
PDC to Windows 2003. This has gone through and migrated
all of our users etc to Active directory. I have
installed the Active directory connetor and everything is
replicating nicely to Exchange 5.5 on the NT 4 Server.
Exchange 2003 has been installed on its brand new 2003
server.
This is where I have come to grief. The organisation on
the old server has a organisation directory of
itvision.com.au so I have had to create a new
organisation and plan on using the mailbox migration
wizard to move the mailboxs across.
The first mailbox I tried to move matched the user in
active directory nicely but when it tried to move it
failed with the error saying it couldnt create the new
mailbox. From the help I ascertained that this is because
the Active directory connector has put in some of the
mailbox fields. The help files say to remove these
through active directory user maintenance and re run.
When I try this it now says it cannot connect to the
mailbox. I have also lost access to the mailbox from the
NT 4 side of things. I cannot get outlook to connect to
the mailbox anymore either. It says that It cannot access
the mail folders.
I have found a knowledge base article which describes the
problem of not being able to connect from the active
directory side and the resolution is to put the
group 'self' into the mailbox permissions. I have done
this but it doesnt help on accessing the mailbox.
Can anyone help please. I dare not try and move any more
until I sort out the problem.
Thanks
John Steer

Can I do this, download from ISP's POP3 server to IMAP in EXCHANGE
Hi all
I haven't used MS Exchange but I would like to know if this is
possible?
Currently I use MS Outlook 2002 to retrieve emails from multiple
ISP's. The ISP's have POP3 servers. Access is achieved via a dial up
modem.
I want to be able to have my own IMAP Server on my network. Can MS
Exchange be set up to dial up my ISP and then download the emails from
my ISPs' POP3 servers, so that the email is then put into my IMAP
server ready to be picked up by my local users? They too will be using
MS Outlook 2202.
Thanks

Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003
Help!
Would like some help with Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003. Can't seem
to figure out how to allow a Public Address Book (Public Folders) and
Public Calendar to be used as the default setting in Outlook 2003.
I'm hoping to keep the standard icons for both Calendar and Contact.
In earlier versions of Outlook you were able to delete the shortcuts
and recreate the exact same ones that point to a pub folder. The end
users didn't realize they were looking at a public folder. Now,
however, it appears the private shortcuts or icons can't be redirected
to a pub folder nor recreated pointing to a pub folder.
I'd like to also allow OWA to use the public folder (address/calendar)
by default.
Thanks in advance,

5.5 to 2000 on a different name server
For certain reasons, I need to do an Exchange 5.5 migration to a new Windows 2000 domain, but the new server has different name than the existing. Under no circumstances can the old server be down, which is going to require me to make the move on a per user basis (which is also why I need to do this on a different named server/domain.) What is the best solution to this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tag: email Tag: 106583

Migrating 5.5 to 2003 in a new domain
I have an NT4 domain with exchange 5.5 and have set up a
new 2000 domain in native mode. Exchange 2003 doesn't
recognize the nt4 exchange server when pointing to it for
a coexisting setup. Can anyone suggest how to proceed? I
think the reason it won't do a standard migration is due
to it being on a different domain.
Thanks for your help!
