Hi...

Our current setup includes exchange 5.5 in our domain. We are planning to
deploy a new win 2003 domain on new servers and will include exchange 2003.

I was able to migrate users to the new 2003 AD. The issue I am facing is
that I need to change some email IDs for some users in order to standarize
our email IDs.

For Example user jamseT@company.com on 5.5 becomes jthompson@company.com on
exch 2003

Is there a way to let the exchange 2003 server forward the emails coming to
jamseT@company.com to jthompson@company.com, although the exchange 5.5 will
be down, but the same previous(on 5.5) public domain is used (form ISP).

If I manage to keep each exchange in its domain and conneted to the internet
independently, how can i let the exchange server 5.5 to forward
jamseT@company.com emails to jthompson@company.com

Thanx

Yep. What you want is to have a secondary proxy address of
jamseT@company.com and then a new address of jthompson@company.com.
That way all mail destined for company.com will be evaluated for both
jamesT@company.com and jthompson@company.com which represent the same mail
store.

If you have time for coexistence, you *can* use custom recipients to forward
to the 2003 server. After all recipients are over, then just re-direct all
mail from the 5.5 server to the 2003 server.

Make sense?

Thanx for the reply.

I just want to confirm that the use of secondary proxy address will help
solve the issue provided that the public domain registered with my ISP does
not change, right? This means that jamesT@company.com can receive mails on
his new email, jthompson@company.com, but not to jthompson@companyBB.com
right?

I'll try to setup an internal test exchange server 2003 on a different
domain and try to forward mail from 5.5 to a receipient of the internal test
2k3 exchange and hope it works. I just need to know how to let the 5.5
forward to the private (not registered)test 2k3 exch.

I need sometime to read about custom receipients to try it out

Thanx

Sounds like you have a good handle on it. It'll make more sense when you
try it out I think.
Take a look at custom routes. When 5.5 and 2K3 are separeted, you can use
IP address for the routing. The custom recipient can be configured with a
forwarding address of user@ip_addr to make it work.
Test it in your environment though.
