    - Problem installing E2K7SP1EN32.exe I am trying to install the 32 bit version management tools only on windows 2003 SP2 machine which is a member of the domain where exchange 2007 reside. Everytime i run the executable, i am getting an error "windows cannot access the specified device, path, file..." and it has something to do with permission? I installed this to an xp machine and no problem at all. I have read a similar issue and the recommendation is to uninstall the IE enhanced security, but it did not work.     - sending forwards through pop3 we have a very small bussiness with exchange 2003 on sbs 2003. the exchange server is only for shared contacts and calendar. each user (only 3 users) has outlook 2003 with an exchange account and a pop3 account set up as default. when we try to forward an email from "sent items" on a local pst, it uses the exchange account by default. why, and how can i change this ?     - Exchange 2003 on SBS 2003 Standard problems Ok So i have installed SBS standard and Exchange standard. Here is the setup bprecycling.co.uk points to 89.248.130.***, so then it goes from the static ip to the linksys router which is 192.168.1.11 and the DMZ to 192.168.1.2 the exchange server. if you goto http://mail.bprecycling.co.uk you will see that part works, now the internal domain is bprecycling.local and the mail domain is bprecycling.co.uk. after running the sbs 2003 email setup the mail is still not recieving but is sending except to domains like hotmail which is a pain. What im trying to work out is whats the best way to get this working properly, also i have mailbox's that have recieved mail but stored it and not passed it to the domain user.     - Exchange install failed Installing the first node of the Active-Passive Exchange cluster failed with an error that the computer account for the Exchange virtual server could not be created in the domain. Looking at the event log I see an error that the Cluster resource did not have permissions in the domain to create the virtual server computer in the Computers OU. The Virtual server was created in failover cluster manager (this is 2008), but I could not bring it online. I then created an account and as the event log suggested I gave the cluster resource full control over the virtual server computer account in AD. This allowed me to bring it online. But I have no database, and who knows what else was not installed. Where is it listed that it is a requirement for the cluster resource computer object to have these permissions? Did I miss something. I have read so much documentation. Now I am left with a system in who knows what state. Is there any way out of this, other than starting from scratch? Thanks for any input?     - Restoring Exchange 2003 from Old to New Server We have an (old) SBS 2003 R2 Server and use Symantec Backup Exec 11 on the server, I have installed a new Server with SBS 2003 R2 with Symantec Backup Exec 12, Restored Exchange IS for 40 users after creating Recovery Storage Group.     - Restore Exchange server 2003 backup on crashed domain controller I had a windows 2003 domain controller and an Exchange Server 2003 in the same computer and unexpectly the mainboard crashed and I lost both of them. I am planning to install and configure a new DC and Exchange server 2003 in a new hardware with the same name and configuration than the previous one and restore my mailboxes using the backup I got using NTBackup utility.     - Installation of Remote AD Management Tools (RSAT-ADDS) after IIS From the Exchange Team Blog: "If the AD management tools are not installed prior to installation of IIS 7 components, there are potential issues with IIS 7 configuration that can crop up as a result, hence the recommendation for a reboot." Unfortunately for our Hub/CAS servers (mailbox are a separate cluster) I saw this too late. So I installed Powershell and all the IIS 7.0 prereqs, rebooted numerous times doing other things, then installed Exchange 2007 in the HUB/CAS roles. What kind of problems will we see if we now install the Remote AD Management tools? Are the issues above just pertaining to if you install IIS7 first and then the remote AD tools without a reboot?     - Multiple Domains and Calendar Sharing HI Everyone, Working in the Windows 2003 Standard Server with Exchange Server 2003 SP2 Environment. We have two domains, xxx.com which is the domain the server resides in and is the primary domain. We obtained another company, yyy.com which is a domain the mail server (single mail server) accepts mail for and allows the users to connection from the yyy.com domain via SMTP accounts. We share calendars within the xxx.com domain with no problems. Users in the yyy.com domain want to utilize calendar sharing through exchange. My question is this. I want to set this up for them, allowing them full range of the exchange features. Can this be done with just one server or does a second server in their domain need to be configured?     - Managing corporate email Hi Everyone, In our company we used to rely on using public folders to store emails. We are a small company of architects and it seemed the best way of having project email that everyone can easily read and add to. With Exchange 2007 microsoft are moving away from public folders but I am keen to find out how companies manage project emails that more than one person needs access to. How do large companies manage critical emails that need to be stored for contractural reasons? We have recently merged with another company and they have email archiving to a sql database as a bolt on to outlook. Mailboxes are limited to 50MB and they archive the email into this database which can be searched.     - New mailbox store with existing AD schema Here is my situation: I had a exchange server crash at a customers site. no backups and corrupted EDB and STM. I did a reinstall of exchange on a new box exactly like the old box with the /disasterrecovery switch.     - Exchange mail on two machines. I have a SBS for small business and an exchange server. I have local client computers connected to the exchange server to download email. I have recently setup a VPN to allow mobile users to connect to our server so they can access local files/mailboxes. Once setting up the remote PC's exchange account, it proceeded to download emails. But at the same time i noticed that my local computers' emails were deleting themselves 1 by 1 as they were downloaded to the remote computer. Is there a way to leave messages on the server so that both computers can download mail when requested and without removing the email on the opposite machine?     - Exchange 2000 Decommision Help I have installed a new Exchange 2007 server in a single domain, and have moved all of my user mailboxes to the new server. I've setup all the connectors (no edge server) and all is working just fine. When I shut down my old Exchange 2000 server many of my users can no longer access folders of users they have delegate access to (i'm assuming this is for all users but only a hand full ahve called my help desk). Both public DNS A and MX records point to the same IP address, which is our public accessable mail server. Inside our office DNS points #2 to a different internal server (192.168....).     - cannot remove old exchange database the original environment was (2) exchange 2003 servers the 1st held all of the mailboxes. the second server was a replica of the first using a product called doubletake. doubletake creates replicas of all of the mail stores and storage groups. I have been removing the databases from the mailbox server as I move users to the new exchange 2007 server. the stores are all gone now except for the public folders ( they will go soon). my problem is that on the replica server, it will not allow me to remove one of the databases as it thinks that there are mailboxes there. I have used http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;279220 and http://support.microsoft.com/?id=279202 I was able to get method 5 of this article to return 4 system mailboxes (one for each mail store I assume). If there is no other way to find and remove these mailboxes, then is there a proper way to clean up AD? since we are moving to exchange 2007, I would need to clean up everything under the administrative group.     - specific emails being lost in cache mode - follow up This is a follow up to a problem I had last year and I know there were several other people posting with similar odd losses of specific large attachments in cache mode. I finally found the problem during building renovations. It turns out the network link to the computer ran through an undocumented switch and Cat-3 cable in part of the route. Once the network staff connected it over to the Cat-6 system it was supposed to be on, the loss of scanner attachment files in cache mode stopped. **************************************************************** Original problem statement I've one user that receives documents from a copier/scanner. The documents come in an email and are downloaded from the scanner server via a pop connection in the Outlook client. These emails vanish if the client is configured in local cache mode. Since they are scans, it take a while to download and I can see it happening in the progress box; it also disappears off the scanner server. I have no control over the scanner, it's maintained by a different department. I've been able to determine so far: The emails from the same scanner reach other users and can be forwarded to the problem account without loss. The other Outlook clients are using exchange/outlook in the local cache mode. The Outlook pop connections to other email systems function normally and no mail loss has been seen in several months of operation since the exchange account was established. The problem existed from the first time the user tried to retrieve a scanned document but did not bother to inform me until a crisis point was reached several months later.     - mirgate from pst's Is there a paper or just recommendations related to switching from a non-exchange to exchange 2007 where all the clients previously stored email in the local pst? It seems I would want to emliminate the local contact list and calendar... for the users to save confusion and move it to the exchange location. But, since these users have had no limits for so long their PST files in many cases are very large. It seem like I may not want to move all of those messages for the users due to the size?? What is the best practice for dealing with users that feel the need to store much more than your desired maximum? A local pst? Are there any tools... to make this type of move easier? The preparelegacy option is successful, but the preparedomain for the child domain failed with this error: Organization Prerequisites Failed Error: Setup needs to contact the Active Directory schema master but this computer is not in the same Active Directory site as the schema master ("root domain site"). I went to the properties of each user on SMTP address tab and changed the email to user@company.com and set it as primary. My questions are: 1. How can i setup each user when sends a email to someone to appear as a general email acount for example info@company.com? On smtp tab i cannot set this address to all users. 2.     - EXCH 07 HELP: Returned Undeliverable spam from spoofed user is crushing our server I came in this morning to find that one of our email addresses was getting absolutely crushed by undeliverable spam. Meaning: Someone is spoofing the return address and using it to send spam. Whenever the message bounces, we get the undeliverable message. In less than 30 minutes, we got over 15,000 messages. Does Exchange 2007 offer any kind of protection against this? I'm worried this attack will spread to more addresses in our domain and destroy our ability to transfer mail.     - My SBS 2003 Premium doesn't send NDRs to peaple sending mail to me. Hi there I've got a (hopefully) small problem. I've got a SBS 2003 Premium Server set up with exhange running. Lets say the domain is dummy.com My problem is that is that if someone sends and mail to a adress that got deleted, for example harry@dummy.com, then that mail gets forwarded to administrator@dummy.com and the sender of that mail doesn't get a reply stating that the adress doesn't exist. Can anyone please help me fix that? Another problem I have is that a lot of mail that gets sent to users (I think using a distribution list) also gets sent to administrator@dummy.com and no the intended recipient. For examle newsletters users subscribe to. In the event log I get the following: Event ID: 1072 There is no delivery information for Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes to use in routing the message <id: {49C24B66-EF60-470D-B960-B338C685A7DD}>. Either the message used a blind carbon copy (bcc) or a distribution list when it was delivered to the POP3 account at the ISP or the e-mail domain specified for the global mailbox is incorrect. The message will be delivered to the Exchange mailbox Administrator, as specified in the POP3 Connector Manager.     - internal vs external domain I am struggling a bit with the concept of a different internal domain and external domain. my users in the past have only accepted email to the external domain. now that I am switching to exchange this internal domain is coming up. Am I best off changing the address policy so users accept email to the external domain and not the internal domain? Or is it more logical to accept email to both? why would they ever need to receive to the internal domain? and if they don't need to, it seems like I would be best off not adding any confusion and leave it at just the external... So, as the backend reside on the private intranet, should I 1. register the exchange backend with a Public access IP, 2 then enable NAT on the firewall and forward this IP to Exchange Backend (Intranet IP), 3. what is the port needed to open on this connection. Furthermore, could I use Internal Cert authority on the front-end or I must install a public Cert on the front-end server? Can I use 1 instead of 2 on front-end?     - Many-to-one mailboxes? Exchange 2003, Outlook 2003 Approximately 1000 users. 800 are traditonal users with mailboxes and so forth. 200 accounts are generic purpose-driven accounts that do not currently have mailboxes. Their user accounts in the domain aren't based on person names, they are just the name of the thin client they use to connect. Everyone uses Outlook through an RDP/Citrix farm, all 1000. I've been asked if we can create one mailbox for just those 200 users and configure Outlook to open to that one shared mailbox. I know how to create a mailbox and give 200 users rights to open it, but I'm looking for a way to feed the Outlook client on the Terminal Servers the profile configuration without logging in to 200 accounts by hand. The CMW was used to automate the creation of Outlook based on the user name. These 200 accounts use the same set of Terminal Services as the general population, so I can't effect any "normal" users. So, is there a way to associate multiple domain accounts to the same mailbox so that when it looks to the exchange server for their mailbox it pulls the shared one and/or is there some trick/script to automate the configuration of Outlook for just those accounts?     - FSE not working properly I downloaded forefront security for Exchange 2007 latest trial. I installed it on one server having mailbox and hub transport role, which seemed to work fine since I can see three scan jobs listed. The related services got started even the startup type is manual. However on second server hosting CAS and HT roles, the installation finished OK with no errors. But no default scan job listed, and the related services like FSCController not started at all.     - certificate i am trying to test a certificate for a new exchange 2007 install with a trial from thawte. i have been following the instructions as carefull as i can... it fails though when i try to enable the certificate just imported.... it says invalid key. so i try to remove it but it wont let me, again it say invalid key?? why wont it let me remove it if it's invalid?? so then i just try to create another new one... smae error. i still could see the possibility that i hand an extra CRin the file or maybe one missing.... but now i can't remove it also. so now i seem to have 2 bad ones imported.... do i just try for the third times the charm? is there some ohter way to get these bad ones out? is there a common mistake i may be making?     - SMTP Internet Connector Queue We have a Microsoft Exchange 2003 server. We have an email list that is maintained in house of 150 outside email addresses. In this list we have about 8 bad email addresses. We have updated the list now, but that didn't help because an email message using that list was already sent out today. When the message hit our SMTP Internet connector queue, the queue gets clogged with many retry messages. I would think that there should only be about 8 retry messages, but that isn't the case. Our queue gets filled with tens sometimes hundreds of retrying messages from that one email. The worst part is that other messages entering the queue with valid email addresses don't get sent through the queue until the retry messages are gone, which in most cases is me deleting them from the queue. The forest is all running 32-bit servers. I know I can use the 32-bit version of Exchange 2007 to do this, but we don't have that CD. I heard it is available from the MSDN subscription, but what do people do that don't have that? The question is - Can we use the 32-bit version of setup that comes with the Exchange 2007 management tools download from MS to prepare the AD? I did find that if I change the "dislay name" or similar, the name appeared
correctly in new installs. But, it does not seem to catch up to users that
had already downloaded the GAL. So now I don't care which way it is but
would like to get it consistent..... How can I get the local GAL to update
to display changes made on the server??
