    - Exchange 2003 member server Is it ok to run exchange 2003 running on windows 2003 as a member server in a Win2k domain? currenty running exchange 2k in a windows 2k domain. basically would like to install a new windows 2003 server as a member server in a windows 2k domain. Then install Exchange 2003 and move mailboxes to the Windows/Exchange 2003 server. Domain controllers will remain running the 2k OS, any probelms in approaching this method?     - Upgrade exchange 5.5 sites to 2003 Hi, Am after a few pointers and best practices on moving 2 5.5 sites - same organisation to 2003. Setup 2 sites both originally running nt4 domains - 2 trusted together. 1 exchange organisation with 2 sites - one on each nt4 domain. Site A has been upgraded to 2000 and now 2003 active directory by adding new servers, keeping exchange 5.5. Site A's Exchange DNS namespace is Org.com Site B - no immediate plans to do anything with - so staying on nt4 with exchange 5.5. Site B's Exchange DNS namespace is Sub.Org.Com We have taken Site A to exchange 2003. We have installed ADC and set up a connection agreement to Site A's 5.5 exchange server. All the exchange admin programs from all the sites see the new 2003 server in the relevant directories. Problem is at the mo - if we use the new 2003 server to send email (via simple telnet to smtp port) to person@Sub.Org.com - it cant deliver. Have we missed something? The only thing that springs to mind is when we originally ran the ADC wizard it created 2 connections agreements - one to each site. Active directory then had new but disabled user accounts created for everyone in Site B. This agreement has since been removed and the disabled user accounts deleted.     - OWA Installation Hi all. In the Microsoft Press 70-294 Training Kit, it states that "OWA integrates into IIS and doesn't even have to be installed on the same server as Exchange Server 2003" (page 1-13). I can't seem to find any instructions on doing so. Basically, my company wants to have 2 "front-end" machines running IIS w/ OWA and SMTP to route traffic to the Exchange 2003 back-end. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Exchange Server 2003 (back-end) will be installed on 2 Windows 2003 servers that will be software-clustered (don't ask).     - RPC-Over-http I am presently running an exchange 5.5 org to which I have already added two exchange 2003 servers and I have had users recieving and sending mails on from both 2003 sever. I have configured on the server as a Back-end and one as a Front end server. I acquired an SSL cert and when you the motions of completing the steup as specified on Microsoft Technical guides. Problem is everytime I tried using outlook 2003 to connect using http it Still shows TCP/IP in the Conn type in Exchange Server Status that from inside the corporate net.     - Exchange03, Exchange2000, OL03 Prior Environment: Winnt4.0 running DNS, WINS, Exchange5.5 I added an exchange 2003 server to my network. Didn't put it in the domain; no relationship to the old servers other than the same subnet. When I did that my clients running Outlook 2003 auto attach to the exchange03 server. They don't have user accounts in the new ads yet, the workstations aren't in the ads... nothing. There should be no relationship to the new server but when I start the exchange services on the new server the OL2003 clients won't attach to the old exchange server. Even if I go into control panels and specify the old server by name, when I hit 'Check Name' it changes the servername to the new server and won't resolve names. Any help will be appreciated.     - Moving 2003 Exchange Standalone to Clustered Configuration We want to move our 2 standalone mail servers to 2 new microsoft clustered servers booting from a SAN and using only SAN diskspace.     - problem with new users connecting to their newly created Exchange 2003 mailbox Hello all, I have a problem with new users connecting to their newly created Exchange 2003 mailbox. Let me explain the network settings at first. I have 3 servers, 2xWindows2000 and 1xWindows2003 (with Exchange2003). The 2 Win2k servers are the 2 domain controllers in the network, the Exchange server (Windows2003) is a standard memberserver (so no domaincontroller!). Previously, the Windows 2003 server wasn't around and the 'server1' had Exchange 2000 installed on it. I then installed a Windows 2003 server with Exchange 2003 for the sole purpose of mail handling. I merged the Exchange environment with Exmerge to the new server, moved every mailbox and replicated all folders. I changed the default addressbook location to the new server and so on. When this was done, i uninstalled the Exchange 2000 server from 'server1' to clean it out a bit. When i now create a user, i do this from the new 2003 server to be able to fill in the Exchange settings (email address and such). All works fine and the user can log in to the network, have every rights and mappings available, ..... but no mailbox. When i try to connect with either the Outlook Exchange plugin or through Outlook Web Access, it says it cannot find the user. (The regular users noticed that every new user isn't popping up in the addressbook either.) In short; i cannot connect to or create new mailboxes! Anyone having any ideas for me?     - Newbie: Exchange server specs recommendations Hi, I have read through the Exchange papers provided by MS on the recommended hardware and specs. For example, they recommended RAID 1 for the various databases. From what I can think, is that on an ideal server, I will need many hard disks running several types of RAID for optimum performance of the Exchange server. However, the Exchange we are going to demploy will only host about 50 to 60 mailboxes or maximum 100. I will like to hear from those experienced Exchange admin, what is the recommended hardware specs that I will need? We are going to use a retired server with dual Xeon processors, 5 x 36GB hard disk and 4GB Ram. Assuming each mailbox is about 500MB, will this server be sufficient? Thanks in advance.... But i notice that the user that is connected to the smtp server could send a mail with a FROM mail that is not like his login name.     - Help with new exchange 2k3 server install All, I am presently running Exchange on my SBS 2k server. I have a new server on order with Win 2k3 and Exchange 2k3 Enterprise, due to the 16 GB limit problem. The questions I have are 1) how hard will it be to move mailboxes once i get the new setup running? 2) Is there anything I should know before i start? Any procedures out of the ordinary that I need to execute? 3) How do I split up the DB's? I do not want to end up with one 100 GB db and god forbid try to recover that.     - install failure due to IIS6 web site identifier Is it possible to install Exchange when IIS6 does not have a web site with an identifier of "1"? I'm trying to install Exchange on a server that has had a fair amount of IIS cusomization, including an SPS2003 installation, so W3SVC/1 does not exist. I created a new web site, and edited MetaBase.xml changing the identifier on this new site to "1", but then internet services manager wasn't properly connected to it, so I figure that's not an option.     - Exchange 2003 Full Text Index and searching PDF files I have indexing set up on our Exchange server now and I want to enable to ability to index PDF files. I have the directions I got out of Exchange 2003 24 Seven by Jim McBee. I am able to open up the Search MMC console, but when I try to go to the properties for the Exchange index the console dissconnects from the server and I get the following error: Unable to connect to host <servername>.     - no nt account associated with mailbox We recently reinstalled our exchange 5.5 and server 2000 and all the users we first setup work great. But now the new mail box we create with the users have no users associated with them. If you go into the properties of the mailbox there is a user associated there and has rights to the mailbox.     - Exchange 2003 failed restore We tried to restore a online backup to a exact image of our existing exchange 2003 server. We went throught the documentation of the restore for ntbackup. i.e. unmounting the store,checking "This database can be overwritten by a restore", and checking "Last restore Set" After the restore I was getting event id 619. Where the log files were no put back into the data base. Therefore, I found an artical that instructed to do a eseutil /cc restore.env, the problem is that my restore.env is 0bytes?     - Created User Mailbox but won't let me log in Hi Everyone, Here is my environment: Windows 2000 AD Domain, Windows 2003 Standard Edition Server running Exchange 2003. New Install. Exchange appears to be running fine, as a matter of fact I can use OWA to sign into Administrator account no problem. Problem is, I mail enable my user account through AD by creating a mailbox. Then I try to log into it. Well... it won't let me log into it... nor will it let me send it mail. Any ideas why I couldn't even log into it through OWA?     - Migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange server 2003 cross-domain I have a setup with 2 domains: one for Win2000 AD and one, still using the NT4 domain structure, with Exchange 5.5 in it. Now we are migrating all systems to Windows Server 2003 and we want to migrate the exchange too off course. I tried the migrating from 5.5 to 2003, but at the last point, I get the error/message "To Upgrade your Microsoft Exchange 5.5 server or to add a new server to an existing Microsoft Exchange Site, the account you are logged on as must have Admin permissions on the Site and Configuration Objects" Now as I'm working cross-domain, and do not have the ability on the new server, to log in as the admin of the other domain, I am not able to do this, as asked. Is there a way of getting around this? Is there a modification, of some kind, trusting or so, to be able to pass this question? Now we moved to Exchange 2003 and the trusted accounts are disabled. Which is the best solution for the disabled accounts ? A. make the trusted domain [DOMAIN B] a child domain? B.     - Reinstalling exchange on a new server. Ok im looking for a guide or perhaps a best practices on a exchange migration. Our current environment is running a windows 2003 standard box with Exchange 2003 SP1. The server this runs on is leased and needs to returned. I have the new server and I am ready to migrate, I guess I am trying to figure out what would be the best way to migrate everything off of the old box and put it on the new server. In my mind I was planning to migrate it using these very generic steps. 1. Rename the old server to a new name. 2. Give the old server a new static IP address. 3. Name the new server to what the old servers name was. 4. Give the new server the old servers static IP address. 5. Install Exchange on the new server. 6. Migrate mailboxes. 7. Test user mailbox access through outlook. Does this make sense, and is this the correct process for trying to accomplish what I am doing? Let me know what you all think, I might be heading in the wrong direction. Please point me in the correct one if that is true.     - x500 address Running Exchange 2003 - any new users created in my domain are being stamped with an x500 address that is causing problems elsewhere on the domain. During a migration from 5.5 - I think someone replicated the EX:/o=MY COMPANY/ou=MYCOMPANY folder - this does not appear to be the schedule+ free/busy folder - that folder is separate from this one. This one is under the OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK folder, next to /o=MY COMPANY/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address List. I have since removed the replica, but the problem still exists. Diagnostics logging for RUS does not show RUS stamping the user object with the x500 address - on the first pass, it shows that the object doesn't have any pre-existing proxies and stamps the correct recipient policy. Then about 5 mins later, Proxy Generation shows that the pre-existing proxies include the x500 address. Does anyone know if this was caused by the replication of the address book folder, as above? if so how can I undo it? Can anyone tell me what logging I need to see what is stamping the x500 address??     - Exchange 2003 and SBS 2000 I have SBS 2000 with Exchange 2000. My business is mostly email and SQL based. I am starting to have performance issues with Exchange 2000. I have set up a Windows 2000 server that is much more powerful and it is now used as my Backup Exec system and Antivirus master. I want to put Exchange 2003 on it and retire the Exchange 2000 on the SBS2000 system (the SBS2000 server will then be my AD controller and my SQL server). I do not intend to put AD on the new server because from what I have read, SBS won't work properly in that configuration. Will I run into any issues with that scenario? According to ISP crushed server has been replased by a new one. From this moment everithing has changed. Even account names should include domain naems now. But tis is not a big problem... From the moment new server is online, my company experience trouble with mail delivery - it takes up to 25 hours to get a message delivered. I know that IP address of mail server has also been changed. According ISP everithing is working perfectly on there side. It may be right, because as soon as message delivered to one of the servers of ISP, it is also the same moment delivered to the mail box of the destination. My company located in Belgium. My colleagues expirience problems with sending from US (Yahoo.com), China (Iberpass.com). At the beginning it was olso impossible to send from a building 500 meters further on the street - next day it looks to be solved. What can give such a problem?     - Another 5.5 to 2K3 Exchange question We currently have a mixed domain with Exchange 5.5 on an NT member server. We have just about finished up our roll out of new 2K3 servers to our branches replacing the NT BDC's. When that is complete we will switch to DFL Windows 2003 (native mode). I have tested in our lab the install scenario. I used the deployment tools on the CD, and it seems to work out well. I have a 2K3Exchange server in our existing lab AD2K3 Native with Windows NT/ exchange 5.5 site (which happens to be a replica of our current) Here are a few problems I came up with so far: 1. When installing EX2K3 on a Win2K3 server with sp1 I receive an imcompatability error......? 2. I can move mailboxes between 5.5 and Ex2K3, but when I have a mailbox on the Ex2K3 server it cannot send.....I checked MTA and it will not start....Errors out with Events 9406, 9996, 9409, 137, 9405. First we installed new W2003 child domain. And We tried to install
Exc2003 in the same site an organization as Exc5.5. We completed
Exc2003 installation. Also we installed ADC and it works , because
when we create a user mailbox in new W2003 it is replicated to Exc5.5
Directory.
So When we send e-mail from Exc2003 to Exc5.5 it waits in the queue of
EXC5.5 X400 ExchangeMTA. At the same time when we send e-mail from
Exchange5.5
to Exc2003, we receive an undeliverable message as soon as sending.

How can I solve this. Is this a problem with Exchange2003 installation?

Are the two servers in different routing groups? If so, you need a routing
group connector between them.
