In Exchange System Manager|Global Settings|Internet Message Formats|Default Properties|Advanced, what is the different between... -Allow out of office responses -Allow automatic replies 2.     - Message body disappears when reply or forwarded Hi, I have an Exchange 2003 user. When he forwards or reply's to an email only the last email is copied in to the new mail. I run a 2003 Exchange system with multiple servers including Blackberry (the problem user is also a Blackberry user). All Servers are SP2 and fully patched. At first I did think it maybe Blackberry related however I have other Blackberry users who do not have any problems. I'm unable to find anything on the web that relates to this problem.     - Exchange Virtual Server There are some setting on the SMTP Virtual Server from Exchange that I need some information about. The Limit number of connections check box, what is a recommended number for that and what exactly are the connects that use that. Does this have to do with regular email? I'm have a bad spam issue and although I have spam software, I'm wondering if limiting the connections will help. I have it set to 15. Any information on this would be appreciated.     - Exchange and firewall ports Hi all, I'm beginner with Exchange (I have a experience with SBS-Exchange on ADSL connection and POP3 accounts), but at the moment I have a public static IP address. Network admins can allow for me port forwarding (via firewall) through public IP to my-server-internal-address. I would like to testing exchange with sending and receiving e-mails (I bought .com domain name). Which port must be opened through firewall (inbound, outbound)?     - ADC connector My current Exchange 2000 was upgraded in-place from Exchange 5.5. I am now planning to do an in-place Exchange 2000 to 2003 upgrade. I don't have any more Exchange 5.5 servers so can I uninstall the ADC connector? Also, I'm going to convert my Exchange 2000 to Native mode. It says that when switching from mixed mode to native mode make sure "your organization does not use any connectors or gateway programs that run only in Exchange Server 5.5".     - Exchange 2000 in-place to 2003 Hi, Step 3 of the Exchange Deployment Tool says to remove the Instant Messaging, Lotus cc:Mail, MS Mail connector, etc components before the upgrade. We are not using any of these components but I see them in the Exchange System Manager. My question is how do I uninstall these components? It says to run Exchange setup to uninstall but which setup? Do I use the Exchange 2000 CD or the Exchange 2003 CD? Also, I see "Connector for MS SchedulePlus FreeBusy" on the Connectors.     - Windows Messenger Issue Hi, We have exchange 2000 Server in our organisation.Instant messaging is enabled for all the users.We are using windows Messenger for intercommunication in our organisation which is loaded in users desktop. We dont have dedicated system for all the user so they will sit across the floor.     - Migrating from 5.5 to 2003 I've just gotten finished following the process that Exchange Server Deployment Tools takes me through to install and allow an Ecxhange 5.5 Server to coexist this an Exchange 5.5 Server. I'm trying to figure out what my next step would be. I'm guessing migrating the mailboxes over and then eventually shutting down the Exchange 5.5 Server. Based on this current configuration, I assume that my Exchange 2003 server is heavily dependant on my 5.5 server based on the current configuration?     - Exchange 2007 Beta1 I eveybody I try to install "Exchange Server 12 Beta 1" on a Windows server 2003 Enterprise french. I patch the registry to solve the mmc 3.0 trouble and it seems to be ok. During the Setup I made the following choises : - Exchange server roles : All except "Gateway server role". - Installation Pre-Check : Everything was completed and green. - Installation progress : ERROR in the first step : Copy Exchange files Installing product (path)\exchangeserver.msi failled.     - Frontend/Backend configuration problems (RPC and HTTP) I recently introduced a new Exchange 2003 SP2 server into my network with the idea of making the new server a back-end server and using our current 2003 SP2 Exchange server as a front-end server. 1st thing I did was move all mailboxes off the current Exchange server to the new Exchange server. I then set the new server as a back-end server and set the old server as a front-end server in ESM. Mail routes fine and my MAPI clients connect to the new server flawlessly. OWA works with no problems. The original server had RPC over HTTP configured on it and was running with out a problem. Since the migration I can no longer get RPC over HTTP to work. Also my users can not sync any more with Active sync from their WM5 devices. I figured this would be a seamless migration since those services were working properly on the standalone system but now they seem to be FUBAR :( All the docs I've read about a Front-end/Back-end scenario make it seem so easy. all that needs to be edited are the server properties in ESM.     - RPC-HTTP could be the death of me Ok i know this is beating a dead horse but I cannot get RPC-HTTP configured correctly. I have read almost all the docs from Microsoft and a few from various internet sites such as this one. From the inside of my network, Outlook works fine, my problem is connecting on the outside. No matter what I try, I get the same error "The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be....". This is my current setup: Exchange Server: I am running SBS2003 with Exchange. This is the only server I am using. I installed the RPC proxy service and I have configured the rpc site in IIS to have anonymous access, integrated access and basic authentication. (does basic have to be the only box checked?) Client Computer: I am running XP SP2. Outlook is configured for MS Exchange. The Exchange name is the local address of my server (what.ever.local). In the "more settings" page, connect using Internet Explorer or a 3rd party dialer is selected. The "Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP" is selected. In the Exchange proxy settings the URL for the Exchange proxy is my normal url. (what.ever.com) "Connect using SSL", and "Mutally autenticate session when connecting with SSL" are selected. The principal name for my proxy server is msstd:what.ever.com. Both connect on fast/slow using HTTP first and then TCP/IP are checked. Basic Authentication is selected. I have followed all the documents, even the one on RWW. Yet, from the outside, nothing seems to work. I have configured Outlook to use the Exchange as a POP3 server just to test connectivity and that worked with no problem. Do I have to open any ports on my router/firewall to allow RPC for Outlook?     - Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 SP1 (W2K3 R2) migration upgrade I have a Windows 2003 Active Directory single site network, which is running Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2000 DC. I have a new server assigned to replace the existing exchange 2000 server. The existing server is a DC but all FSMO roles are on a Windows 2003 DC Essentially all i want to do is upgrade exchange onto the new box and remove exchange 2000 and DC. The new server will end up running Windows 2003 R2 and Exchange 2003 SP1, SP2 to go on at a later date. Can you let me know the processes required in order to achieve this..     - PL2 Exchange 2003 Time Hi, I currently have an Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 server. I am moving mailboxes to the new Exchange 2003 server. I've noticed one of the mailboxes (reception mailbox) receives emails, but the time of email is always one hour behind. I did an email test and emails are received immediately but the time received is alwatys 1 hour behind. I have checked the time of the DC's and Exchange servers and server times are OK. I did the same test to my mailbox and received times are corrct. Nobody else in our organisation have flagged up any issues. Any ideas where's it taking the time from?     - Exchange Server Dependencies on Domain Controller(s) I created the following network: 1) Created new Forest/Domain by installing Win 2003 Server on new machine and creating first domain controller. 2) Setup an additional domain controller in same domain for redundancy. Each DC also acts as DHCP and DNS servers. Replication established. Everything works fine. 3) Installed Exchange Server on third machine. Performed all required preparation steps: Forest Prep, Domain Prep, etc. Exchange Server is successfully send/receiving email over internet. Also accessible from Outlook and OWA. Everything appears fine. 4) If AD Server #1 (First server setup above) is unavailable (but Server #2 IS availabl) when Exchange server is restarted, the Exchange services do not start and exchange is not available. Can anyone help me to understand if this is normal behavior. Is there something incorrect in the configurations? How do I establish highest degree of fault tolerance with respect to my AD servers?     - Synchronizing mail with another server We recently added an Exchange 2003 server to our local network, but we also have an outsourced Exchange hosting service. We like the journaling feature (which our outsourced provider does not supply), so we would like all incoming/outgoing mail to go through our local Exchange server so it can be logged. What I have in mind is having our local Exchange server try to send outgoing mail through the external server (thus making it appear to originate from the external one) if possible, and if it's down (or otherwise unavailable) to send to the internet directly. I would also have the local Exchange server automatically download all email from the external (so our LAN users can just setup the one local account in Outlook). I'm warned that I would want to add the local server to DNS Smart-Hosts if it is to send email to the internet (for end servers which perform reverse-lookups.) I'm also concerned that the overall availablity could be fractioned by setting this up wrong (or even right), should I be worried about that? I'm fairly sure Exchange can do all this functionality, but I don't know the terminology so it's hard to search for the proper instructions.     - Ex 2003 Deployment Puzzle Hi We are in the process of installing our first exchange 2003 server onto new hardware (win2k3 standard RC2) in our windows 2003 AD domain to run in co existence with our NT/5.5 setup so that we can migrate mailboxes etc. Have followed my way through the deployment tools fine, corrected a few small errors on the way. As recommended in some of the documentation I ran forestprep and domainprep on the DC and am now up to the point of running OrgPrepCHeck from the deployment tool dialogue box (on the new exchange server hardware).     - ADC Tools error Hi There When running Step 4 of the ADC Tools, I get the error "Error: The organization o=XXXXX is already installed into this forest but the configured 5.5 server is a member of organization o=YYY YYYY YYY. Please choose a 5.5 server in the correct Org." Current Scenario: 2 locations - first is Win2k3-based AD with E2k3, was migrated to a new domain from NT 4.0 and Ex5.5 last year. Second location is STILL NT4.0 and Ex5.5, and in a different domain and org than the first site was in. Site to site replication is already up and working for AD objects, DNS is good. What I'm trying to do: Migrate second site into the Win2k3 AD domain that was created with last year's migration, as well as migrate the users to E2k3. The exchange servers will be in different sites, under the same organization. The first 3 steps of the ADC tools went off with no problem. When I try to run step 4 I get the error above, right off the bat - I start the wizard, click next, and it fails right there. Not sure if it's relevant, but the ADC from last years migration is still listed in the ADC Services window, even though the first domain (the one the original migration was done FROM) has been decommisioned I'm sure I'm having some sort of epic blonde moment here, but I can't find the solution to this one.....     - Problem with Native POP3 connector I`ve bought an Exchange Server license for the Native POP3 Connector from Mapilabs (http://www.mapilab.com/exchange/pop3_connector). It`s used to fetch mails from a Domino-server to an Exchange-server. All the Exchange-users got an account on the Domino-server. First, I configured all the users on the Domino-server to forward all mails to a single account on the Domino-server. Then I configured a global (catch-all) account on the Native POP3 Connector. This seemed to work well, except 1 thing: Bcc`s. Therefore, I disabled the forwarding for all the users on the Domino-server and set the same password for all users. Then I deleted the global account on the connector and configured a single-mailbox connector account for all of the users. Now bcc`s worked fine. But now...some days later, it turns out that some users doesn`t receive any mails from the Domino-server. When I connect to the Domino-server with these users, I see that there are mails in their mailboxes. I`ve tried to enable full logging on these 5 accounts with problems, but nothing is written to the logfile. When I enable logging on a working user, records are written when the connector connects to the Domino-server. So it doesn`t seem like the connector is even trying to connect. I`ve tried to increase the setting for "Number of working threads" from the default of 10, to 20. Also tried to change the polling-time for all users from 30 seconds to 90 seconds. But no difference... I`ve contacted Mapilab support, but they couldn`t help. They had to set up this configuration in a lab, then they would come back to me. But this is pretty urgent, so any suggestion would be aprreciated. There are 80 users, and we`ve noticed that 5 is not working, but there may be more. Does anyone got any suggestions on what could cause this? Eventually; Any other method for deliver mails from the Domino-server to the Exchange-server?     - Final Steps Hi All, I have completed an installation of EX2003 and are happy that all is functioning ok. Ready to decommission the Ex2000 server however I need to migrate the GAL across and don't seem to be able to find out any info on this, also how to perform any last steps needed, if there are any.     - OMA Setup Issues I'm not sure what to do at this point. We are running BE only Exchange 2003 SP2 that is also DC and GC. OWA is working fine (not using SSL) and RPC over HTTP works as well (access using SSL). I have created my OMA virtual directory (Exchange directory not using SSL and Exchange-oma is using SSL). I have run through every scenario I can think of. I have verified ports 6001, 6002 and 6004 are pointing to right places, verified my virtual server settings, etc. Each time I connect using IE6, I get the error "A System error has occurred while processing your request. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact your administrator." In the event log, I was getting an event ID 1503: MSExchangeOMA, An unknown error occurred while processing the current request: Message: The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request. Source: Microsoft.Exchange.OMA.ExchangeDataProvider. I did have to reinstall Exchange due to forestprep error (tried reinstalling dupdate.exe as well). Any other suggestions?     - Unable to access OWA on Front End Server I have created a Front-End and Back-end setup inside my Intranet behind a firewall and forwarded the ports 80/433 to this front-end server. When I try to acces the front-end server on the intranet http://webserver/Exchange I am prompted to enter a username and password. Once I enter this information I recieve "This page cannot be displayed". This also happens if I access this site with the external domain name. The Front-end server has been correctly setup as a front-end server. If I access the back-end server http://backendserver/exchange everything works as expected so i am assuming this is configured correctly. If I turn this "Act as Front-End Server" setting off and then reboot the front-end server and try accessing the front-end server again http://webserver/exchange I am then redirected to the backend server and can view my mailbox.     - Move Exchange 2003 to new hardware We are trying follow kb 822945, but we are not able to complete the process because the Exchange Server is also a 2003 domain controller. Step 3b asks us to reset the account in Active Directory Users and Computers, but when we attempt to follow this step, an error messages tells us that this cannot be done on a Domain Controller.     - OWA and Auto Reply feature I set up the Auto Reply feature on my OWA client (in the Options). It doesn't work: I send messages from another e-mail address to thie OWA address, and get nothing in return (the message "I'm currently away from my office, etc.").     - Database Damaged I got called into a site that has a SBS03 server. Their hard disk crashed and they were not backing up their exchange data. I was able to recover the exchange db and log files off their hard disk. But they are out of sync as of the time of the crash. Based on the date stamp of the edb and stm files, they would be quite happy to get just what's in these files. What options do I have to get them some email and contacts back?     - Exchange Server 2000 Upgrade I just got a new job as a Systems Administrator. I will be helping with server and desktop upgrade analysis, implementation and licensing, etc. We have about 40 users. There are plans to upgrade the servers and Exchange. We have: one Exchange Server 2000 in the company's external domain, mixed mode. It has the latest service packs. It's on a Windows 2000 Server (SP4). It is both a domain controller and an Exchange server, but nobody authenticates to it for workstation logon. It is for email only. It is located in a COLO. It operates alone. I am trying to change this situation. Then, in our main office, we have a separate Windows 2000 (SP4) mixed mode domain with 3 domain controllers. So, in order to set up new users, we must create new user accounts on this domain, as well as on the Exchange server mentioned above. When configuring Outlook 2003, the email server mentioned above is entered. This seems to work, so long as the usernames and passwords are identical. I notice no trusts set up between these domains, and therefore no replication of any sort. There have been several consultants here over the past few years, so it is hard for me to get information at times. The key to the Exchange upgrade is to migrate the mailboxes safely and without disruption. Backup of mailboxes are working, so this will be done right before an upgrade - which will be done on a Friday evening. Questions: 1. How is this authentication with Exchange possible from another domain? I should know the answer, but I've not seen this before. As long as there is an account on the Exchange (also a DC) in another domain, it is ok to add each user's email account from another domain? Does this mean Forest/Domain Prep were run once upon a time? 2. What is the recommended upgrade path for Exchange in this situation? The company already has purchased a Windows 2003 RC2 server at the COLO for Exchange. They would like it to be A fresh install, which I agree with. 3. What license path do you recommend?     - Can only send email using SmartHost - HELP !!! I have a strange one that I cant figure out. Setup is a Small Business 2003 server connected to the Internet via Verizon business DSL. Since we are unable to get a static IP address, we use POP3 accounts and the Exchange POP3 Connector. Email is arriving just fine although we get some occassional errors in the Event Viewer stating the Internet connection cannot be verified. The problem is with sending mail. In the SMTP Virtual Server settings, on the GENERAL tab, we have to use a SmartHost. We have put the server of the POP3 account provider here. (SMTP.REGISTEREDSITE.COM) Mail is delivered using the SmartHost. However, the default in Exchange, from what I understand, is to use DNS for sending mail. When we select this option the email is never delivered. Our Outlook 2003 clients appear to have sent the mail but the recipient never gets it. Could anyone provide some detailed steps on how to troubleshoot this? We want to switch to another email provider soon and I'm afraid when I switch to use DNS we wont be able to send email.     - I Have RPC over HTTP Suggestions!!! It took me hours of research and I still didn't find the right information for configuring RPC over HTTPS. First, www.msexchange.org has great resources for general configuration (front/back end, back-end only, DC, ISA, etc), but I couldn't figure out how to actually get connected with Outlook 2003. Every time I would try, it would time out and fail. I could see the https request on my router, but it died there. Then, just trying different combinations, I figured it out! The main problem I had (and many of you have the same issue) is my local domain name is different from my WAN domain (I use .local on the LAN). So, every time I tried to login, it would fail. I used the server name to match my SSL (ex.: mail.domain.com) with user name of DOMAIN\UserName. It would fail, but I read everywhere that it would if it could not see port 135 on my LAN. I tried every reconfiguration in the book with mapping ports in the registry for DNS, etc., then I realized that the key is when you setup the HTTPS Proxy, by putting my registered name there (mail.domain.com); check connect to SSL only and mutually authenticate (use msstd:mail.domain.com), that created the RPC connection. I then went back to the first step where you entered the Exchange server and entered my local domain name (mail.domain.local) and then just entered the user name with no domain (just UserName and not DOMAIN\UserName). It resolved the user name right away and starting building my cached profile immediately! So: 1. Put in local FQDN for Exchange server; 2. Use local login name (no domain qualifier); 3. Outlook will check name automatically, cancel when it times out; 4. Go to more settings, configure other settings including HTTP Proxy using FQDN that matches your SSL certificate; 5. Check to use SSL only and check to mutually authenticate (using msstd:FQDN on SSL); 6. Once you have done all your configuration for your Exchange setup in More Settings, go back to first page of Wizard and check name again to have it resolve. Note: Even if you put in the FQDN external address on the first page of the wizard, if you have the correct user name, it will still resolve and change the server to your local address automatically since it is the HTTPS Proxy server settings that actually authenticate you (not this page). The settings on this tab just resolve your user account to the local domain. Hope this helps! I spent 2 solid days researching this and happened to stumble upon it. There is great info out there, but nothing really to help with the split domains. It seems counter intuitive since IMAP and others use the external FQDN here for authentication.     - Migrate remote users using RPC over HTTP to new server I have a single domain environment with Exchange 2003 Enterprise on a DC (with GC) and need to migrate all users to a new server in the same scenario. Standard workstation users' Outlook 2003 will automatically identify the change and reconfigure themselves, as will our VPN users. However we also have users who solely use RPC over HTTP to connect in. I have it working to the point where we adjust our firewall to point to the new server and the remote user can change their Outlook profile to the new server name, however I was hoping that there would be a way that doesn't involve the user doing anything.     - Multiple exchange servers Hello All: I have recenlty become a System Administrator for a growing company. I won't do the injustice of asking mundane questions i can find awnsers to in a book but I do have a question about the concept of mutiple exchange servers in a single domain. Here is the situation: I am running a mixed mode environment. I am running Exchange Server 2003. I did not install the first exchange server(a consultant did this before me) 1)I have another location off-site that is complaining of slow email. And as well they should they are recieving email from our server on the east coast. I am in texas. I would like to deply a second exchange server to their location and have them run off their own mail server. 2)I am moving to another location where i will need a third exchange server.Then at one point(maybe 2 weeks later) i will move the first exchange server to the new building and uninstall the third exchange server being that i don't need two exchange servers in one building.
