    - DC+EXCHANGE in LAN, ISA on DMZ Hi All, reading your answer in my previous post i decided to plan things like this: - SERVER A: Windows Server 2008 + Exchange 2007 in LAN Network (private IPs), Domain Controller - SERVER B: Windows Server 2008 + ISA Server 2006 in DMZ Network (public IP) Now my questions are: - As the ISA server is separated from LAN, should it be a domain member or not? Should i let him in a worgroup? If i configure it as a domain member BEFORE publishing it with a public IP in DMZ, what will happen then? Should i enable certain rules at the firewall level? - Outlook 2007 clients in LAN network should point to SERVER A, while external clients should point to isa server ? What if a roaming client (a notebook with Outlook 2007) connects sometime from LAN network and sometime from external network? I googled a little but can't find a good howto: can you point me a guide about best practices to publish an ISA server in DMZ network under a Domain network (not a workgroup) ? Thank you i.a.     - idiot idiot idiot...I screwed up! I am coming to the exchange gods for help. I was in a rush and forgot to uninstall exchange before blowing away an old server. All accounts were off it and everything else was moved (server was shutdown for a few days to verify) but I erased the box last night and went to go rebuild it this morning and of course am being told that the server already exists.     - First HUB - [WP] Planning to deploy our first CAS/HUB in Exc2003 envoirenment. Few thoughts: Currently all mail is being sent from BE Cluster to the Internel to Postini. After I deploy my first HUB, I still want all the mail to flow thro BE unless I point it to the HUB Server. I know mail flows thro HUB but here at this point I dont want it to flow thro HUB.     - Exchange Migration + Outlook Calendar Issues. Guys, here where i am at and i need some advice please as i am stuck with my migration if i dont get thorugh this hurdle. So i have Domain A with exchange Org1. I am moving users from domain A to Domain B. The process is i am just moving the users From Domain A to Domain B. And i give access to the mailboxes of users DomainA to the new user of DomainB. And when i willl move all the users i will just migrate themailbox to the new domain. The problem i am having is the users between domains cant share their calenders. I think because the user now logs in outlook with Domain B credntials but open outlook with the mailbox of the same user in Domain A. Can someone help me to troubleshoot this.     - dc server on lan, exchange on dmz Hi all, i'm planning to put: - DCSERVER on LAN interface, with private ip (192.168.0.x) - MAILSERVER on DMZ interface, with public ip (A.B.C.D) What ports do i have to allow on the firewall, to let MAILSERVER communicate with DCSERVER and vice versa ? DCSERVER usually acts as DHCP and DNS server for LAN clients. Now that MAILSERVER is on public static IP (A.B.C.D), how can he know that the DCSERVER for my domain (mycompany.com) can be reached on ip 192.168.0.123 ? He is no more on the LAN DHCP network ... I can enable DNS forward on my firewall. What DNS records will query the mailserver to search for the domain controller ? I can fake it on the firewall to resolve to 192.168.0.123 ... I need to set up a single exchange server 2003 that will work for our training facility as well as a couple of NGO's(non profit organisations) Currently we have all mail being POP'd from different an ISP's in outlook.... Some users POP the mail directly from the ISP (home or work), . . . whilst others do it locally,& their .pst file stored on a local directory on the server. Some ISP have alias accounts, and forward the mail directly to a persons selected POP account e.g joe@saop.com mail is forwarded to joe@home.com jane@soap.com is POPâ??d locally and PST file is on the local server john@doe.com is POPâ??d POPâ??d locally and PST file is on the local server peter@doe.com POPâ??d at home Paul@doe.com is forwarded All server accounts will be: ----##@training.com The ISPs manages the spam / firewall and MX records. Is there a manner that I could setup the exchange server to POP selective mail from the different ISP's I would like to try POPâ??n about 3 accounts from an ISP as a test, setup shared calendars etc, before moving the MX records to the server, as well as keeping the forward and remote POP accounts at the ISP level to reduce traffic over and exiting dail-up line.. My next step to follow the procedure in this KB and remove manually: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/260378/en-us Could you confirm that this I follow the procedure in the article 'precisely', as these look like two separate processes: 1. Remove registry keys on the server. 2. Remove the server from AD. Also I assume that as there is no E2k7 shell 'remove-server' command, that step 2 is done in E2k system manager. Many thanks.     - OWA redirect for second domain Hi, I'm running Exchange 2003 SP2 Enterprise on the backend and Exchange 2003 SP2 Standard on the frontend running on Win2k3 SP1. There are two domains. owa.mydomain.com and owa.mydomain.org. The owa.mydomain.com works fine. We used KB839357. Both domain sites were generated with the Exchange System Manager. The first into the default web site and the second was created as a new web site. The second dowsn't show RPC virtual dirs, has a home directory for the web site of \\.\backend (etc), has many different setting when compared to the default site and when I make changes to the metabase, say, the home directory tab-site location to point to c:\inetpub\domain.org, changes all the virtual directories under the site.     - How to set Outlook to not send RTF First, I'm new to Exchange, and I have very little knowledge about how it actually works. And, yes, I'm the most knowledgeable in the office, so there's no IT guy to ask. We don't have an Exchange server, but are using a service from Comcast where Comcast hosts the Exchange server. I'm sending emails with attachments from Outlook 2007 to home (Vista - Windows Mail). The attachments will not show up in Windows Mail because, apparently, the emails are being sent in RTF format. There are 3 specific places within Outlook 2007 to specify the mail format, and all of these are set to plain text. It has been suggested, in another group, that Exchange is overriding this somehow and the emails are being sent RTF. I have no idea where to look to change this since we don't even host Exchange.     - change password at next logon I have exchange 2007 CAS, running on Server 2008 using IIS7. we have a password change policy and many of my users use OWA only, now all users are able to use the OWA password change when they are logged into their mailbox, but when a password is changed and the option for the user to change password at next logon checked, or the password allowed to expire the user cant login to OWA. i have this working currently on the current live servers (server 2003, exchange 2007) using the iisadmpwd mrthod but i cant get it to work under server 2008. can anyone help?     - Exchange 2000-2007 Migration Delegate Permissions Hi, We are just finishing off a migration from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007. The clients are running Outlook 2002. When I shutdown the Exchange 2000 services, the users who have delegate permissions to open other user's calendars etc, get a message when they try and open the other folder saying that Outlook is unable to access the information store. If I start the Exchange 2000 services they can open the folders as usual. My question is, when the mailboxes are moved from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2007are the delegate permissions migrated? Or is there an issue where the Outlook 2002 profiles are still pointing to the old Exchange server and will the issue be resolved if the profiles are recreated?     - Question about transition to Exch 2k7 I'm doing a transition from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. My current Exchange 2003 environment consists of two FE servers for OWA (and it's a bridgehead), and a BE Exchange 2-node cluster. My plan is to have two Exchange 2007 CAS/Hub Transport servers to replace the Exchange 2003 FE servers, and then an Exchange 2007 Mailbox server in a cluster to replace the existing Exchange 2003 BE cluster. I plan to first introduce the first Exchange 2007 servers with both the CAS and Hub Transport roles, and then add the Exchange 2007 Mailbox server cluster afterwards.     - ActiveSync Standard Setup with only 1 FE Exchange 2003 Server I am having a hard time getting my Windows Mobile Phone (Motorola Q) to sync with Exchange 2003 SP2 running on Windows Server 2003 SP2. I have set up dozens of small business servers without a problem, but the IIS directories look a bit different. Is there a best practices guide available for how to implement this on Exchange 2003? I have a certificate installed from GoDaddy, Port 443 open (Can browse to OWA externally), and have checked the Exchange, OMA, Activesync virtual directories settings and compared the settings to one of our SBS 2003 Servers that can sync without a problem. The settings match, but still can't sync. Do I need the Exchange-OMA Virtual Directory? I thought I finally stumbled upon the answer with this article, but it still doesn't work. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379 Created a directory, checked settings, still no luck. Will Deploy 2 CAS/HUB on same boxes. I will import the same SSL cert from my FE and import it on the CAS and that should do. But I cannot import the same TLS from my BE Clusters and stick it to the HUB Server Send Connector. How do I do this on the new HUBs now ....     - Routing Groups I have added a second exchange server to an organisation and want to use it to test sending email to a domain already used in live but using a different route (i.e. a different smart host) without affecting live mail. i.e. want a connector in each routing group for bt.com with different routes Live: exampledomain.com =96 use 192.168.1.1 Test: exampledomain.com =96 use 192.168.1.2 The idea behind this is to prove that a backup route for the same domain can be used in a DR situation. I=92ve decided that I can do this by doing the following and would be grateful for any comments as to whether this will work:- =95 Ensure that any connectors in the default routing group apply to only the routing group and not the organisation. =95 Create a 2nd routing group called =93test=94 =95 Move new test server into the newly created routing group =95 Apply SMTP connector for the required domain ensuring that it only applies to the routing group =96 my assumption is that this will be able to coexist with the connector applied to the live server as it is in a different routing group and does not have a routing group connector in place. =95 Test sending after firewall rules have been amended My main concerns are that Live mail will be affected by adding the duplicate domain =96 hopefully negated by ensuring the connectors only apply to the routing group and not the organisation.     - Internal 2003<->2007 Messages stuck in queues and Outgoing Messages Hello Everyone, Thanks in advance for your help. I just installed an Exchange 2007 server into our organization. Our organization consists of one Exchange 2003 server and this new Exchange 2007 server. I moved one test mailbox over to the new Exchange server. I cannot send messages from any account on the 03 server or from the outside to the 07 server. Also I cannot send messages to the 03 server or to the outside from the 07 server. The Routing Group Connectors are present and I have tried recreating them with both the 2003 console and the 2007 console. Messages from the 2003 server and outside just get stuck in the queue on the 2003 server. Messages from the 2007 server just disappear. They do not show up in the 2007 queue and they are not stuck in the outbox. Once I send the message I can find no trace of it except in the sent items folder. Pop3 connector downloads the email from www.ourdomain.com to our exchanger server and each â??exchange server mailbox userâ?? receives their email in Outlook 2003. We also have employees who are not connected to our exchange server and are not â??exchange server mailbox usersâ?? but continue to download their email directly from www.ourdomain.com to their individual computers. When one of the exchange server mailbox users sends an email to an employee who is not an exchange server mailbox user their email is returned undeliverable to the exchange server mailbox user.     - Removing Second Domain from Exchange HELP! Hi Everyone, We have a single Exchange 2003 server running in our organization. Recently we acquired a seperate company, let's call them company b. We used the single exchange server to host their mail through Recipient policies and such. The companies have again split, and we have removed the email addresses, user accounts and recipient policies for company B. Problem is, our mailserver still thinks it holds some control of company B domain as it won't go out and forward mail to that address... any address @companyb.com comes back as undeliverable as account doesn't exist (since it feels it is responsible for them...)...     - Single Exchange Server 2003 Environment I have a single exchange server environment, where I am running OWA, and need to configure active sync and also inable imap for iphone connection. By default imap is disable on a exchange box, which is easy enough to enable, but if I am not in a front-end/back-end topology how does one create the virtual server for imap? After enabling imap a virtual server is 'created' by default, but I can not connect using imap from a OE session.     - Exchange 2003 Disk Configuration? I've six new 15k 300gb SAS drives to go in our SAN. They will be dedicated to an Exchange 2003 SP2 Virtual Machine running on ESX 3.5. The current physical Exchange box has around 190gb of databases on it, with a 140/50gb split between private/public store, and approx 400 users. With this new build I want to have three mailbox stores each with different quotas (seems the simplest way to do quotas without doing it per user). Question is what to do with the physical/virtual LUNs i.e. Single big physical RAID10 and one virtual LUN Single big physical RAID10 and serveral virtual LUNs And so on. It's not what I'd call a performance setup, people are mostly horders, but I would of course like it as fast as possible without being wasteful of space. We have other RAID1 or RAID10 VMWare LUNs in the SAN and I was going to have the OS/logs image on one of those and these disks are really just for the databases/storage. I do nightly backups using ntbackup to disk then stream that to tape, though I may be getting the Commvault Exchange agent at some point. The daily logs never go beyond a couple of gig. My gut reaction is a single physical RAID10 and one virtual LUN and a single partition within Windows as then I'm not limiting myself with regards to running out of space in a single area.     - transport rule add text query Hi, I hope this is the right newsgroup. I notice some transport rules questions have already been sent to this group. I have a transport rule which takes email received to a particular mailbox, adds some text to the bottom as an xml tag, and forwards it to a partner service, which does stuff with the emails. The tag is currently all static text, but we now have a requirement to add an xml tag in the format: <email name='senders email address'> Is there a way to use the transport rule to extract the senders email address, and allow me to add it to the bottom of the email as an xml text?
