OWA with Exchange 5.5
I want to setup OWA on my SBS 4.5 server. How do I access
my server from the web? Do I need to setup my server as a
domain with a registered domain or can I access it using a
TCP address? Is there a good source that explains how to
configure my server and how clients will access the server
from the Web?

What happens to my email if I lose internet connection?
Sorry for the newbie question but I searched online and
found nothing. What do I need to do to make sure I don't
lose email when I restart my server or if we lose
internet connection? I assume I have to set something up
with my ISP but I don't want to sound stupid when I call
them:-) Also, when I pushed Outlook 2003 to the users on
the network, it imported all there contacts and email but
when the users type in the To: field the addresses do not
auto complete!?!? Is there a way around this? Thanks

Save space on Exchange SERVER....
Hi
I have installed Exchange Server 2000 on a Windows Advance Server 2000
installation. Everything is just fine. No issues in mail sending
receiving.
Just that in our office all users have their own PC and i can save
heaps of storage if i can somehow make users download mails to their
pc's. How do i do that? My clients use Outlook 2000 or Outlook Xp as
their MAPI clients. I know theres something to do at the client end
but i could use some TIPS.
I know abt how POP clients set up their accounts in Outlook to NOT
LEAVE MESSAGES ON SERVER. But how do local EXCHANGE clients do that. I
couldnt find an option in an EXCHANGE SERVER account.
Any ideas? Thanx in advance for any posts in reply to this....

RPC over HTTPS problems
Hi
I have set up the Exchange server and clients using:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=833401
I did the test externaly of https://mail.mycompany.com/rpc and received the
expected error. When trying to connect via Outlook, I get the login screen
and use domain\username and password to login. That is where it stops, it
states that it is trying to connect, but doesnt.
I am using a valid cert from Verisign and installed it on the local client
too. I ran outlook /rpcdiag but from that it doesnt look like it is using
https to connect. The login screen is for the internal exchange server name
and not the url name.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Public Folders
I have setup a new exchange server to take over from our old exchange 2000
server.
The problem i am haveing is moving public folders accross. I have about 10GB
of folders and it seems to have moved about 6.5GB of folders but that is.
There are no errors at all in the logs on either exchange server so i dont
know why it is doing it.
This is not the first 2003 server i have setup i have been testing before
with the same data source and it moved all the public folders over without a
problem.
I have left t for over 2 days so i have given it enough time.

Forest Prep Blues
So here is the scoop. I have a client that has an Exchange 5.5 server
that has been working like a champ on a Windows 2000 domain without
Active Directory Connector. We have been desitant to use the ADC becuase
of the total lack of AD managmeent on-site.
We would like to install Exchange Server 2003 to the AD and expor the
mailboxes from the 5.5 server and import them to the 2003 server using
Outlook PST files.
The problem at hand is that after running ADDiag which reports no errors
I try to run forest prep which seems to get about 3/4 of the way done
and they bombs out with the following error.

Exchange 2000 email accounts setup
Hello all. I have installed an exchange 2000 on top of a Windows 2000 server
box. I have an external IP configured to point to this Exchange for email
delivery routing (so say when someone sends me an email say to:
smith@joeschmo.com, they will be directed to this public static IP) and the
firewall is configured to deliver any traffic on that port to go to my
Exchange internally. My question is, what is the best way to setup the email
accounts? Some of the people will not even have a domain account. I was
using out ISPs servers for pushing the email out...do I change that now to
the in-house server? Can I create email accounts for people that do not
belong to the domain? I am having a tough time because any email I try to
send out is getting queued and goes nowhere. I managed to send emails at one
point, but that was using our ISPs public IP. Since they directed it to our
static public IP I cannot send nor receive anything. Any help would be
greatly greatly appreciated (I am familiar with 5.5, but 2000 is a complete
departure from that). By the way this is a fresh installation on a dedicated
server

Front end servers
I am in the process of planning out the addition of 2 net
new E2K3 boxes and am looking for options to deal with my
one and only FE server that exists in our head office's
admiin group. I haev some additional testing to perform
but here is what "I" think are my options.
1: Shut off FE services from that server.
Problem: It is used by several Execs on the road for
Webmail access.
2:Move the FE services to another box somewhere else.
Problem: Link speeds are not that great so performance
would suffer
3:Perform an inplace upgrade of my E2K front end box.
Problem: Does the install of the first E2K3 server require
that no servers in the admin group are FE's or just that
no E2K servers are FE's ? I have not been able to find
these answers, prob due to a lack of searching/testing so
far
4:Turn off the FE services, install Exchange 2003 then
turn the FE servcices back on.
Problem: Ramifications unknown in doing this after the
fact. Tag: Where can I get PFINFO.EXE for Exchange 2003? Tag: 120222
OWA 2003 Permissions Problem
When domain users access OWA they have to enter their credentials multiple

I know there is probably a permission issue on some IIS folder on the
server, but I don't know where to look?

The first thing it tells me is to Replicate all Public
Folders to the new server. I have followed the
instruction - but when I go to the new server and look at
the Public Folders there are no new folders created. If I
look at the Replication Details on the old server -
replication Tab - it show In Sync on the old Server and
shows Local Modified on the new Server for all the folders.
I have left the server overnight and still no change.
When will the new folders be created.

Exchange 5.5 -> 2003 ADC and SMTP Issues
We are in the process of migrating from Exchange 5.5 to

I need to add these additional domains to the recipient

Access to Exchange 2003 from NT4
Hello,
I'm migrating Exch 5.5 mailboxes to Exch 2003 and as part of the
migration I shall be migrating user accounts from Nt4 to 2003 with SID
history.
All user accounts and mail objects/boxes have gone accross with no
problems and from their win2003 accounts users can access their Exch
2003 mailboxes.
Now the requirements have changed and it is required that Users access
their Exch 2003 mailboxes from their old NT4 accounts! This is due to
a seperate XP/2003 Pc rollout that will comence once the mail
migration has been done. So until the user has theor PC rebuilt to
Win2003 domain they must access their mail from NT4.
I was under the impression that as NT4 accounts were migrated using
SID history they wold still be able to access Exch2003 mail using NT4
accounts but Its not working. I have to manually add the users' old
NT4 account to the win2003 mail rights for it to work.
So my question is does SID history work in reverse? I know it works
from 2003 to NT4 but should it work in reverse ie from NT4 to 2003?
Does SID filtering come into this at all.
I personally would have migrated all users to logon to win2003 and
then migrated the mail but my hands are tied...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can we use OSW for 2003 when we still have a 5.5 server?
What point would we need to get to before OWA 2003 will

Is there further settings to configure for OWA? Have we
perhaps got more work to do to make OWA work under 2003?

First, the MS site is a little unclear. Is the limit 1GB for the mailboxes

Second, what happens when you hit the limit? Does the server die nicely or

Ok, I am in the middle of migrating NT4 SBS exchange 5.5 to 2003 server

I used the swing method as there should be minimal downtime or interuptions

After succesfully adding an NT4 BDC, promoting it to a PDC and then
upgrading 2003 server,I ran forestprep and domainprep installed the ADC
then installed exchange 2003.After this I ran through the post installation
checks and have got the following error..

Having trauled the net and found a few people have had the same error, I've
found little explination or fixes.

Reset Administrator in Exchange 5.5
Hi,
I've been trying to migrate my NT4 server with Exchange
5.5 to a brand new server running Windows Small business
Server 2003. I have a problem though when i get to using
the Exchange migration wizard, where it claims that my
user name and password (which is the administrator account
of the old server) doesn't have the necessary permissions
to perform the operation. It also creates a event id 7048
in the event log which states that there could be a comma
in the old exchange server name, but there is no comma.
The old exchange server was set up not to use the
administrator account but i have changed the user in the
services to be the administrator, but it still claims that
i do not have the necessary permissions!!!
So my question is, is there a way that i can redefine who
the administrator is for the exchange server on the old
server? Or is there something else that i have missed
during the migration process that is preventing me
complete this stage?

Exchange Migration Wizard...
I'm migrating from Groupwise 6 to Exchange 2003, but am
experiencing some technical difficulties (to say the
least).
I'm to the point where it asks for the path to the
Groupwise domain, user name, and password, but every time
I enter the requested information, a login window pops up
asking again for user name and password. When I re-enter
the appropriate credentials, I am confronted with an
error window stating the following:
"An error occurred logging on to the Groupwise 5 Admin
API."
To this, I can only click an [OK] button which simply
returns me to the previous Migration Wizard window
prompting for Groupwise domain path, user name, and
password.
How can I get past this point?
Thanx. Tag: Where can I get PFINFO.EXE for Exchange 2003? Tag: 120152
Migration from 5.5 to 2003 coexistance
I have completed the steps of migrating and now have both
servers running. I am able to move a mailbox from one
server to the other, but when I do this, the user is not
able to send or receive new mail, they are just able to
see their exisitng mail. Server one is Nt 4.0 Exchange
5.5. Server two is 2003 with exchange 2003. Any ideas of
what too look for? Tag: Where can I get PFINFO.EXE for Exchange 2003? Tag: 120151
Non registered internal domain
I just recieved Exchange 2003 for my Active Directory
Network with an internal domain that is not a registered
external domain. It might be registered by someone else,
our external domain and email addresses are hosted
outside but we are bringing the email inside. Is there a
way to be able to send and recieve mail from the domain
without having to change it. I know we can set up a
recipient policy but I am not sure if we would be able to
send.
I appreciate any help Tag: Where can I get PFINFO.EXE for Exchange 2003? Tag: 120149
Migrate Exchange 2000 To 2003 On a New Server
We have a Exchange 2000 SP3 server running on Windows 2000 SP4, We have
purchased a new mail server on which have installed Windows 2003 server and
hope to install Exchange 2003. The problem we have is that we would prefere
to use the name of the old Exchange server on the new server, but we know we
can't rename the new server once exchange is installed. As far as we know we
have a a few options;
1)Install the new mail server with a different name, move the mail boxes to
the new server and keep the old server up until the clients has been informed
of the server change.
2)Install the new mail server with a different name, move the mail boxes to
the new server then remove the old server, meaning clients would have to be
manually reconfigured or use something like Office Maintainance Wizard.
3)Upgrade existing mail server to 2003, perform a full backup and then
replace the old server with new server (with same name) and perform a
restore. (not sure on details of this one)
Basically the problem is this, we would prefere to keep the name our mail
server the same, but if this is not possible I guess we will just have to
change it, we would like some suggestions on the possible upgrade paths (or
further information on the ideas above i.e. don't even think about it).
Just as a note, although downtime is not to much of a problem it would be
preferable to avoid to much :)
Thanks In Advance

Outlook E-mail Security Update problems
I have an Exchange 2000 Server with Outlook 2003 clients. Some third-party
applications require me to switch off some security features so that they can
access Outlook and send e-mail without user interaction.
I have followed the setup described at
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/admin.htm
However, I can not get this to work! Outlook 2003 always pops up with a
warning on the client computer. So far I have tried this:
Double checked the setup and reinstalled the Outlook Security Form.
Set all Programmatic Settings to "Atomatically Approve" in the Outlook
Security Form.
Used this as Default Security Settings for All users.
Tested various client computers.
I have no idea where to go from here as I don't get a proper error message
to give me a hint of what is wrong. Can someone point me in the right
direction? Tag: Where can I get PFINFO.EXE for Exchange 2003? Tag: 120143
Password Change in OWA
Hi
I have a Windows 2003 Server box running Exchange 2003.
Within my windows environment, I have set up some security
settings which states that users need to change their
password after 30 days.
This setting affects my travelling OWA users at the end of
the 30 day period.
I have created a virtual directory to enable password (for
Exchange authentication) and have configured the default
domain to be \ using basic authentication with SSL. How do
I allow the users who are not based in the office to be
able to change their password.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

exchange using wrong account
Hi,
I am running exchange 2000 SP3 and mail is flowing from internal user to
internal user just fine. I have two accounts setup in my outlook 2003
profile one for exchange and another for internet mail which is hosted by
our ISP.
I can send internet mail and outlook passes it on through my ISP account
setup in outlook just fine.
When i receive an internet mail message and try to forward it to an internal
user that is listed in my global catalog list because the message arrived
via my ISP it tries to send to my internal user via SMTP. The message
bounces back with NDR.
Is there a solution to the system recognizing the difference between the two
(exchange internal address versus external internet e-mail address).
Thanks

Unable to send emails
Our fully qualified domain name is abc.domain.com for our active directory
and we have set up an Exchange 2000. We can send to anydomain.com, but if we
try to send an email to xyz.domain.com, we would get a non delivery message
immediately
"The destination server for this recipient could not be found in Domain Name
Service (DNS). Please verify the email address and retry. If that fails,
contact your administrator.
<exchange.abc.domain.com #5.4.0>"
As instructed by our ISP we have entered the forwarder and CNAME entries on
to our DNS but this makes no different. It seems as if as soon as any email
is sent to say, cde.domain.com, fgh.domain.com or xyz.domain.com it gets
bounced back straight away.
I have done some research and found that if our fully qualified domain was
named something like "abc.domain.local" it would have made the
administration a lot easier. So, how would one go about in fixing this
problem (apart from renaming the domain name) and could anyone please tell
me what the correct configurations should be.

Unable to view multiple mailboxes in OWA
I've setup my Outlook to view two other mailboxes in
outlook. In Outlook, I can see all three mailboxes just
fine, but when I login through OWA, I only see my
mailbox. In System Manager, I've given myself permissions
with the other mailboxes, and as I mentioned earlier, it
works great in Outlook. Is there something I am missing
when I go to OWA? Thanks Tag: Where can I get PFINFO.EXE for Exchange 2003? Tag: 120120

another dc 2000 with ex 2003. i have done the wholl job.
