OWA refused to start
Hi Guys,
Please I need your help on this one. I installed our second Exchange Server
in Domain but after the installation OWA was unable to start when you type in
http://servername/exchange. Is there anything I am doing wrong? Also the
necessary services are running.

Exchange 2k3 FE/OWA
I have an exchange 2k3 organization with 3 servers. I have recently set up a
4th server to be a front end for OWA. I have followed the microsoft provided
instructions on how to configure the server and all looks well. The problem
is when I sign in to OWA on the front end, i get authenticated, but then I
get the error "Http 500 Internal server error". If I turn off friendly Http
error messages, I get the error "Unspecified Error". I have searched
extensively for an answer but I can not find any. Tag: What is new in SP2 wrt the ADC? <eom> Tag: 134556
(2) Exchange Servers, no communication
I have two separate Exchange (2003) Server, both are members of different
domains, but they do reside on the same LAN. I cannot get a message to
transmit from one to the other. I can send and recieve via SMTP from an
outside source, but just not to eachother. Each contains a private address,
which is NAT'd to a public address. I would venture to guess in this
scenario, its because a connector is not established and the the SMTP VS is
not even being used. Can someone please she some light on this problem. I can
telnel <private address> 25 from each to the other, and I can send a message
using the appropriate commands. BUT, for some reason I cannot do this from
Outlook or OWA. NSLookup resolves to the private address, which is accurate. Tag: What is new in SP2 wrt the ADC? <eom> Tag: 134553
OWA - Default Splash Page
Is is possible to get the Microsoft Default Splash page for OWA on a single
server setup? I know I can do this with a FE/BE setup but on a single server
I get prompted for login credentials and then it goes straight into the
email. Am I doing something wrong?

Mobile Services and ActiveSync for Exchange 2003 Setup ???'s
OK, I run our Exchange 2003 Server and have recently gotten a succesful setup
of our Mobile Services after a lot of headache. I finally found that I
needed to install our security certificate to the pocket pc devices to access
our secure ActiveSync website. Anyways, I think everything is working but
want to find out about the Mobile Services in Exchange Administrator and what
is "Adding a Mobile Carrier". I mean, it only asks for the SMTP Domain and
that is it. What is it for? What does it do? Do I need anything in there
because currently there is not?
And, from what it seems, everyone who wants to use ActiveSync to push mail
to their pocket pc must have installed ActiveSync to their actual desktop
computer and have synced at least once while connected so that it builds
their folder tree and gathers their settings, correct? I also noticed it
asked for Device SMS Address, which we use Verizon, so I know its
Phone_number@vtext.com. Is that so that Exchange itself can push
notifications out to the pocket pc? How often will it puch them out? Tag: What is new in SP2 wrt the ADC? <eom> Tag: 134539
Exchange 2003 - Specify outgoing smtp ip address
Hi
I've setup my exchange server to use a specific ip address on the system
which corresponds to an fqdn.
However, when i send email from the system, it as default sends from a
different ip on the system which then shows in the headers of received mail
(rdns failed)
Are there any ways to get around this and have the outgoing smtp server use
only the ip i specify?
Thanks

Error message when trying to view Directory Access Tab
Windows 2003 Sp1
Exchange 2003 Sp1 (Clustered)
Hi Everyone,
When I try to access the Directory Access tab on our Exchange 2003 Server
through the Exchange system manager I get the following error message...
Information about directory services could not be entirely obtained. Check
to see that the Microsoft Management service is running on the Exchange 2000
or Exchange 2003 server.
This service is running.
Also in the Exchange System Manager on the General tab of the Exchange 2003
server, the Log file directory box has the following message...
The RPC server is unavailable.
Facility: Win32
ID no: 800706ba
Exchange System Manager
I have turned up logging on the MSEXCHANGEDSACCESS but no error messages
have been reported.
We are running exchange 2003 in a Veritas cluster. When we run Netdiag on
the active node all of the LDAP queries fail. When we run it on the passive
node we don't get any LDAP errors.
Does anyone know how to fix these errors? Or is this a result of the
cluster environment?
Thanks,

Accessing pop3 mail from our relay server.
Hi,
Our organistaion has a exchange 2003 server on our internal network and a
exchange 2000 server as a relay in our dmz.
The relay server just forwards mail to the internal server using smtp all
other protocols and the first storage group have been disabled.
Both the exchange 2000 server and exchange 2003 server are in separate
domains/exchange organistations.
Some users need pop3 access to their mailboxes. Is it possible to allow pop3
access to mailboxes on the internal server through the relay.
Not too sure if this is possible as the exchange servers are not part of a
forest and are completely seperate from each both.
Though I might be able to pull the mailbox off of the internal server to the
relay from remote access by clients, is this possible?
Many Thanks

SBS 2003 migration from exchange 5.5 (catch)
I've been called in to attempt to migrate some users from an almost
dead nt4 server over to a brand new sbs2003 server the company has
bought.
When I say almost dead I mean no one can log in locally to the machine
as the windows login screen seems to hang or never complete the login
process, yet everyone can access their network shares on the server and
some services seem to be up and running (like dhcp).
Other problems aside (such as the dhcp service still running on the nt4
server everytime it starts up meaning i can't have dhcp running on the
sbs2003 server), will i still be able to transfer mailboxes from the
copy of exchange 5.5 on the nt4 server over to the sbs2003 server using
the 'move mailbox' tool?
If not, suggestions? Tag: What is new in SP2 wrt the ADC? <eom> Tag: 134510

Error 8204 while doing a Domainprep

Exchange Server 2003 Installation
This is my first Exchange 2003 installation. Currently there is a dormant
installation of Exchange Server 2003 on the Organization Master (it has never
been used as an Exchange Server, the app has just been installed). I am
installing Exchange Server 2003 on a new box on the same domain. Can I just
uninstall the install on the organizational master, or is that going to jam
up my new install? I have read the lengthy directions to uninstall Exchange
2003-so I am not sure if I need to accomplish that first, then install the
new box with Exchange? I woul appreciate any help on this issue.

Exch03 Migration from DC
I have a new client whose Exchange Server 2003 is installed on a PDC.
I want to migrate both the Exchange Server 2003 and DC controller functions
to other (new) servers. One new DC and another member server for Exchange.
The existing server (because of CPUs, RAM & RAID) to be re-configured as a
SQL Server.
I am aware of at least some of the issues related to AD and dcpromo.
Can anyone provide a suggested migration path/proceedure to accomplish the
goal?
I believe that migrating Exchange Server to another machine, deleating the
first Exchange install, then addressing the domain role via dcpromo may be a
workable solution.
All ideas are welcome.
Thanks in advance for your help.

GroupWise Migration
I'm in the process of migrating from GroupWise 6 to Exchange 2003. I'm
performing tests on copies of the databases before doing it live.
So far, I've been able to get the mail to migrate, but nothing else. I've
looked in the forums, and found a useful utility that will allow me to
migrate the address books. However, I still can't migrate the calendar or
task files. I read elsewhere in the forums that the calendars migrate across
as "schedule plus" files and that these must be imported. However, I don't
see a location to which the files are migrating so I can perform the import.
I also don't know if this "schedule plus" file will populate user's tasks.

Sending Emails via 2nd server
I added a second Exch2K3 Svr to my Admin Group although it is in another AD
Site in a different city.
I can receive Internet emails to the new as the email is passed from the 1st
Server ,as this is where the MX records points. I can't send emails to the
internet, only to servers on the VPN, unless I use the smart host option,
which I don't want to.
From this new server, when I do a telnet ipaddr 25, I get a black screen,
but no answer and then get disconnected.
You CAN telnet ipaddr 25 into my new Exchange box though...
I did run Secure Mail Server on my ISA Server, as you can see via the above
statement.
No public MX or A record for the second Exchange server.
Please help...

2 Domains - 1 Exchange Server - 1 Mailbox
Hi, hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
Management here would love it it we could setup our existing Exchange 2003

mail from either email address.
i.e. JLecht@Primeworld.com (my active email) and JLecht@Primeline.com (Not
currently active - don't reply to this address) - using both the same
server, same user mailfile, inbound and outbound, either address.

IE and Office 2003 Credentials problems
Hi,
Me and my team encountered credential problem while using IE on a
secured IIS website. We logon with network credentials, all works fine,
except for a few .ppt and .xls document we try to open. Word documents
seems to be always okay.
The problem is, when you type the address of (or click a link to) such
a document, you get re-asked for you network credentials. If you cancel
3 times, the document opens. Weird? If you choose to Save instead of
Open the document, no credential asked. Ultra-Weird!
We triple-checked the NTFS rights, all is okay. If you try to reach the
document with a UNC address, all is fine. Its only via HTTP(S)
protocol. IE is fully updated, on Windows XP SP2, Office is all
patched, Windows XP too...
Looks like the credential token isn't well interpreted from Internet
Explorer to PowerPoint or Excel.
As a hint, we already experienced such a problem with Office 2000. It
was corrected in a Microsoft patch. Maybe it's the same problem and it
will be corrected soon?

Can't send or receive e-mail to POP3 users on same domain--HELP!
All,
I can't seem to resolve this, and I'm hoping someone here has some
info.
We have SBS 2003 and Exchange is having a heck of a time. It can't
seem to send messages to ANY POP3 users on its own domain. What's
worse, I no longer get notifications bounced back to the sender--they
think the message has gone, but it hasn't, and the recipient doesn't
even know there was a message.
When Exchange was set up, the 5 e-mail accounts within this company
were added. They're all POP3 accounts, and were working fine before
the server was installed. (There was no previous server
installation--just P2P connectivity.)
Now, whenever Tena@company.com sends a note to Kristina@company.com,
Kristina never gets it. They work in the same room. When Tena sends a
note to Jim@company.com (several states away, but with an account on
the Exchange server, since he works at the company), he never gets it.
If she sends it to his HOME e-mail address, it works fine. If he sends
a message to her, she DOES get it, even if he uses his "@company.com"
e-mail address. The difference here is that he's not logging into the
server. He's connecting "directly" to the Internet and just using
Outlook and his SMTP server.
The Event log is full of error "1015" for the POP3 Connector (it
occurs every 15 minutes, when Exchange is checking e-mail), but the
Microsoft support site and EVENT.ID site have no information on this
error. Here's what it states: "Microsoft Connector for POP3 Mailboxes
can not verify the Internet connection but will still attempt to
download messages."
I've tried "forcing" the POP3 connections, but that doesn't help.
There are no errors that I've seen, and the user gets no "bounce back"
notification. (They used to be alerted that the addressee was not at
the company, even though he or she was. That doesn't happen any more,
and I don't know what's changed.) Exchange was configured to use the
POP3 connector, but it creates fewer errors in the log if I DON'T use
it. I can have the users go back through the connector, but with or
without it, they still get all their other e-mail--just not from
people at the company.
For each user's e-mail address, there are two "SMTP" entries under the
user's E-mail Address properties screen. "smtp" points to
"user@company.local" and "SMTP" points to "user@company.com" (the
primary, POP3 account). I assume these are correct, as they were set
up by Exchange. Each account also has an X400 entry.
I've resorted to Jim@company.com sending a message to everyone else at
the company from his company address and having them reply to it just
so he can get messages back from them. Apparently, if they initiate
the message, Exchange doesn't deem it "legitimate", but if they reply
to one, it's fine.
I set up the users and their e-mail just like I did on a SBS2000
server last year, but this isn't working properly, for some reason.
What other info do you need to help troubleshoot this? Since Microsoft
offers no free support at all for SBS 2003, I'm out of luck.
Thanks.

I have installed a new SBS2003 server on the same private subnet as my
exisiting network that already has an exchange server configured. The SBS
Server is configured as a completely seperate domain/forest with Exchange
running. Everything seems to be working ok on the new SBS except sending mail
to and from the other domain. All other emails get sent and delivered ok.
Bother domains are using the same Cisco firewall as the router out on Road
runners network. Both have unique live ips routed to the server. How can I
get mail to be delivered between the two domains? TIA Tag: What is new in SP2 wrt the ADC? <eom> Tag: 134459
Exchange 2003 install error
I got AD going and dns etc... I have 2 existing exchange 5.5 servers. One
is called MSG and the other is sascmhmsg02. MSG is the main Exchange 5.5

with my Exchange 5.5 server. I have ADC working perfectly and I went to
install Exchange 2003 and have it coexist with my Exchange 5.5 servers.

E2k3 To new hardware newOS
Planning on moving Existing Eschange 2003 running on Windows Server 2000 to
new hardware and would like to upgrade to Win2k3. Is this possible using
offline backup and restore procedures (KB 296788)?
Can I just stop the services - do an NTBackup of the Exchange Server's
System State and the Information Store shut down the old box, bring new box
(same name) online and restore? I will of course install Exchange with the
disaster recovery option as well as Forest and Domain prep before restoring.
Just wanted to know if the off-line backup is even necessary. Thanks Tag: What is new in SP2 wrt the ADC? <eom> Tag: 134454
Duplicate system folders
Hi,
After remove a exchange server 2003 from the organization, I noticed on the
other exchange server 2003 under public folders (view system folders) that I
have duplicate instances of the OWAScratchPad and the StoreEvents folders.
Both followed by a GUID.
And in the Event Log I had these errors:

Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 Ent.
I'm sure that this is simple, but I have an Exchange 2000 std. server that is

how I am to transfer the old exchange info and data to the new exchange

Common mail folder
I have a situation that requires all email come into one common mailbox. The
"boss" will then move it into people's mailbox (he will be an admin) then if
anyone send mail out it should go out directly but when replied it should
again go to the general mailbox until manually forwarded. I know this it
tedious nevertheless this is my task.
Any Ideas?

Moving Exchange data from one domain to another

First Exchange install in Forrest
We're setting up Server 2003 in a new domain environment and we're having
trouble installing Exchange.
We have a forest server that is an empty root server (root.com), a DC for
the primary domain (company.com -- which is the only tree in the forrest),
and a member server for Exchange. I have installed forestprep on the root
server, and domain prep on both the root server and the DC. We now want to
install Exchange on the member server at company.com, but the installation
wizard says the user doesn't have the authority to do so and wants us to use
the Exchange Administration Delegation Wizard.
I've tried various combinations of logging on as the enterprise admin, the
domain admin, and the local machine admin plus running setup as the logged on
user or one of the other users and nothing works -- Exchange always has a
reason why the user can't install.
No rights to to the local disk.
No right to install the first Exchange server in the forest.
No right to run forrestpred or a full install.
I've also tried running setup with the /ChooseDC option with the same
results.
Do we have to have the first Exchange server at the root level, and then
install another at the lower domain?
What am I missing here? Tag: What is new in SP2 wrt the ADC? <eom> Tag: 134443
OWA on another computer
Hello
I have a question about Exchange 2003. If I get the standard version of
2003 can I install OWA on another computer (in my DMZ). This was possible in

Cannot recevie mails
I've setup exchange in a SBS 2003 server to receive mails from the ISP mail
server. Actually I wanted to retrieve mails only applicable to those users
only. ISP maintaining one mail record for that company. (Eg :
mail.company.co.uk) So ties company have branch offices with several servers
in their site to retrieve mails from the same isp account. So I comfit the
server as far to my knowledge and test with a test account. In the test
account I can send mails to outside e-mail accounts but I can't receive
them. And when I check the test e-mail account I don't get any dnr messages.
So I think the mail are getting lost. But I've no idea what's is he problem.
Can this be a problem that I've done through misconfiguration? Tag: What is new in SP2 wrt the ADC? <eom> Tag: 134440

ADC CAs can be deleted when?
I am extremely confused about when we can delete ADC CAs once an AG -- not
the Org just an AG -- is pure E2K3 and no longer contains any 5.5 Servers.
So, I have not deleted any and want to know if/what I can.
We have two pure E2K3 AGs, these are HQ and BO1. We have a Config_CA, user
CA and public folder CA for each. HQ was the first E2K3 AG with the first
E2K3 Server in the Org. I gather from what I read we keep the HQ Config_CA,
as it was the first, until all 5.5 servers in the Org are gone. (We still
have 2 pure 5.5 Sites; these each have Primary user and public folder CAs)
However, can we delete the HQ user and public folder CAs?
BO1 was the second E2K3. Can we delete the Config_CA, user CA and public
folder CA for that AG?
And what about the SRS service running on the E2K3 server in the BO1 AG, can
we stop that? We would still have the SRS running on the HQ E2K3 Server,
which apparently we keep until ready to go native mode.
Thanks. Tag: What is new in SP2 wrt the ADC? <eom> Tag: 134422
Undeliverable Messages / Help Needed Exchange 2003
Hello Guys,
We have a WINDOWS 2003 Server standard running exhcnage 2003 in our remote
office. Our main office has their emails setup with earhlink which are
forwarded to their verizon accounts.
last night the exchange server was rebuild from scratch and now everybody in
our remote office gets an error when they are trying to email anyone from
the main office.
Please take a look at the diagram for better understanding of our problem.
http://tsweb.ma.cx/mainpath.jpg
so to summurize what's going on
when user1 sends an email to user2, user3 or user4 evertthing works fine,
but when any of the users 1 - 4 send emails to users in main office user5,
user6 or 7, 8 they get the error from the exchange server indicating that
user does not exist on the exchange box, however those accounts exist on the
hositing company server.

Where to place the Global Catalogue servers
I understand that the place where GCs are installed is important.
In an Exchange 2003 infrastructure and where everyone uses Outlook in cached
mode, is it also very important where the GC is ?. Outlook has a local copy
of the directory and only needs to get the updates from time to time.
What about the GC placement in a large global company where the
infrastructure is highly consolidated ? Tag: What is new in SP2 wrt the ADC? <eom> Tag: 134416
