Hi

Could someone help me for this: what is the relationship between Virtual
SMTP servr and SMTP connector?
We setup our own Exchange server as mail server, and need to forward the
outgoing email to ISP mail server, and ISP server need authentication. How
to do that? do we need to setup a SMTP connector to do that?

Thanks a lot

You should.

The connector allows greater control and is always recommended.

Think of an SMTP virtual server as a piece of code. It's what does the
actual SMTP processing. Think of the SMTP Connector as a routing object
that tells Exchange servers where to send mail. Think of the SMTP virtual
servers as a freeway and the SMTP connectors as directional signs.

In a simple Exchange environment, you can probably do without an SMTP
Connector, but, in my opinion, you should always have at least one with a
"*" address space that directs how to route outbound Internet mail. There
are plenty of situations that require that you have an SMTP Connector, such
as if you want to route Internet mail to an smart host, need to route
certain domains over certain routes, need to set up usage restrictions, etc.

In your case you most certainly should create an SMTP Connector with an
address space of "*" and a smart host that points to the ISP's mail server.
You'll probably need to configure the credentials in the Outbound Security
dialog, which you find in the Advanced tab.
