    - How to preserve Rich Text Format on replies (Exch 5.5)?? Sorry about multiple positing, the first one got to the wrong group... Our Exchange server is version 5.5. Users have both outlook 2000 and 2003. I want to set up the Exchange server such that if a domain user replies to a message that arrived in Rich Text format from another Outlook user on the Internet the reply shall also be in rich text. As it is now our users receive the message in rich text. Then they reply and edit the reply with rich text so they can color code certain parts of it. And they also copy the reply to a user in the same company, i.e. on the same Exchange server. But when the reply is sent out to the original sender he receives the message in plaintext, whereas the internal user sees it in rich text as does the sender if he looks in his sent items folder! So the same message is different for these users, surely this cannot be accepted! If the sender changes the To: address, which has been put there by Outlook after clicking the reply button, to the same address but taken from his own address book, then the output message is in rich text to all including the person on the Internet! Obviously I want the message to retain its rich text format without the users having to change the address of the message after making a reply. So where do I set this?? I have looked everywhere I can think of. In the Exchange Server settings for Internet Email I have made every change I can think of.     - uninstall I had to rebuild the domain controller. The exchange server was added back to the domain but will not start any exchange services.     - Problem Moving Mailboxes? 1. We have a Domain server running Win 2k Sp4. 2. We have Ex 5.5 Sp4 installed on a Win 2k Sp4 Server. 3. We have done a fresh install of 2003 Server on a new server, and then a fresh install of Exchange 2003. Once this is running properly, we want to move the mailboxes from the 5.5 to the 2003 exchange server. 4. I set up the Active Directory connector on the 2003 server, and it is running a 2 way connection between the Domain server and the 5.5 server, using the default LDAP port 389. It is replicating to the default objects (Active Directory users > Exchange Recients both ways) 5. I can see the 5.5 server on the 2003 server management snap in, but with no attributes. 6. I can see the 2003 ex server on the 5.5 server management interface but it will not let me move the mail boxes. 7. There are no events in any event logs mentioning the ADC's failures or successes. 8. When I first forced the Replicate Now option, in the Exchange 5.5 server, a Custom Recipient was generated for every mailbox. I have a feeling the ADC is not running correctly. Any suggestions?     - Exchange 2003 server in Exchange 5.5 site Hi, I've configured the ADC between the 5.5 exchange and the Windows 2000 domain and its all working fine (using the Exchange 2003 ADC). I've just installed my first Exchange 2003 server into the 5.5 org however when I run the System Administrator as the administrator I only see the Recipients and Tools branches (missing Global Settings and Administrative Groups), but if I logon as exch_srv (the Exchange 5.5 domain service account) I get the normal view and works fine. Administrator does have full permissions in the Exchange 5.5 site so I don't know why this is happening. Also if from the Exchange 5.5 Administrator application I try and view the Logons container of the Mailbox Store of the 2003 server I get a MAPI error, is this normal? I get the same error when I try and run the 5.5 administrator on the Exchange 2003 server, "You do not have the rigts required to complete the operation". Even logging on as exch_srv trying to move a mailbox from the 5.5 to the 2003 fails (part of the error file below:) <summary isWarning="false" errorCode="0xc1050000"> The information store could not be opened. The logon to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer failed.     - Exchange 2003 setup Security requirements ? I am installing exchange 2003 on server 2003 and I am considering securing the machine before the actual Exchange setup.     - urgent email/domain problem, please help i have an active directory domain lets say called domain1.com exchange 2003 is installed and working fine for the domain. email can be sent and received to and from the domain1.com domain. i need the same exchange server to also be able to handle email for domain2.com. i was told it was as simple as setting a recipient policy for "@domain2.com", which i did. as im sure you can imagine, it doesnt work. from within the office, if i use outlook to send and email to the domain2.com domain it works fine. of course the whole idea is to have email sent from the internet addressed to domain2.com handled by exchange and that is not working. if i try i get mailer daemon messages saying user unknown. i have a user in the domain called jim@domain1.com in active directory i have configured an additional email address for the user: jim@domain2.com i have also set up the recipient policy in exchange. can someone please tell me what to do? as of this morning the dns changes are live and domain2.com is not accepting email. please respond to jjd228@optonline.net thank you so much Tag: Verify upgrade Tag: 108323

    - Setup of Exchange with a PDA Need help configuring Exchange/Outlook with a Pocket PC. Exchange 2000 is running on a Windows 2000 Small Business Server. The Outlook Client is Outlook 2002. Communications between all Clients and the Server is functional. We are able to share Calendar and Tasks across the network. The problem is with the PDA. It is running Windows CE 2002.     - Installing new Exch 2003 Guys, I would like to add a new server box and install a windows 2003 and exchange 2003 and join my existing windows 2000 domain. Here is what I have currently: 2xwindows 2000 DC(still in mixed mode) with SP3 1x windows 2000 with SP3 and exchange 2000 with SP3(member server) I would like to add new windows 2003 box as member server on a windows 2000 domain and install exchange 2003 on it and join exchange 2000 org Questions: 1. Since I need to run setup /forestprep and setup /domainprep before installing exchange 2003, what steps I should be taking care of before running these utilties. I mean some kind of fall back or roll back schenario just in case something happen to the AD during the forestprep/domainprep setup. I understand that when you run these utiltities it will do some schema changes on the windows 2000 AD to accomodate the Exch 2003 2. As per my current set-up, does my Exch 2000 will works after running the above utilties 3. Assuming that the setup /foresetprep and setup /domainprep is successfully done on my AD. While installing the exh2003 on the new box, will the exchange 2003 installation prompt me to join an existing exchange 2000 organization/site as in the case of Exchange of 5.5.     - Trouble with Public Folders I recently upgraded my Ex2K Server to sp3 and in so doing upgraded my OWA installation. Here's the problem. After installing sp3, the Public Folders became available in OWA apparently with no discretion with regard to the user. I decided to change the permissions on the Public Folder and restrict the availability to only certain users using ESM. Apparently, this was a huge mistake. I inadvertently deleted the Owner of the Public Folders and now none of the users on the network can see the Public Folders. Apparently having Admin privileges is not a substitute for the owner role. 1. How can I gain access to the public folders again? Based on my research, I think I may have to use the PFAdmin utility but I have no idea how to use it. 2. How can I restrict access to the public folders in OWA once we can see them again? I really wish I had asked before deleting the permissions and not afterwards, but then again hindsight is 20/20! Your input is greatly appreciated.     - exchange 2003 setup I'm attempting to setup Exchange 2003 on an Win2k3 box. The goal is this exchange server will host serveral non-contigious domains for different companies, say: company_abc.com company_xyn.net Each group of users should have their own unique administrative policies. Since exchange 2003 is tied so closely w/ active directory and the method of installing users into seperate groups is to either multiple domains or multiple forests. I've already installed active directory on the Win2k3 machine and have what I believe to be the 'root forest domain'. A active directory domain with only a handful of administrators. To create a new forest or domain to hold a new group of customers belonging to a new administrative body I did read the docs and ran dcpromo The problem is dcpromo just prompts to remove active directory - not to install an additional domain or forest... I have purchased Windows 2003 Server. I understand that I can't run Exchange 5.5 on it, and that I have to run Exchange 2003 on it.     - exchange 2003 server w/ 2 2000 servers I have 3 servers all 2000 1 with exchange 2000 on it. I am putting a new server in to replace the exchange server.     - Exchange unable to create mailboxes After installing Exchange 2003 as the first installation in a Windows 2003 Domain, I was able to create mailboxes in Active Directory using Active Directory Users and Computers. However, when I open up System Manager and browse to First Storage Group\Mailbox Store\Mailboxes, it only lists the default system mailboxes and not the ones which were just created. When I tried to set up the Outlook client to send and receive mail using one of the newly created accounts, I get the error message that windows cannot locate the default mailbox store and will have to store messages locally.     - Outlook 2003 Clients attempt to use port 135 to connect to Exchange 03 Outlook 2003 Clients attempt to use port 135 to connect to Exchange 03. The Clients are using Outlook 2003 and have the recommended post SP1 update installed. The recommended registry entries have been done on the server side and RPC over HTTP protocol installed. Client is configured to point to proxy server at the correct address. Firewall log indicates the packets are being blocked due to the use of port 135?? I created a firewall rule to allow ports 80, 443, 543, 6001, 6002 and 6004 to pass through to the private IP of my Exchange server which is also the Global Master role. Is there a registry entry that needs to be done on the client systems to use port 80 instead of 135? What an I missing??     - Exchange 2003 setup What would be the best setup for Exchange 2003 with Windows server 2000? Would it be on an existing Web Server or on its own machine dedicated to Exchange only?     - Exch2K3 Setup Error - asp.net v1.1 not installed I have a test Win2k3 box set up that i'm trying to install a clean installation of the exch2k3 standard evaluation as the first exch server in test domain/forest. During setup, I keep getting the error "Setup has detected that ASP.Net v1.1 or above has not been installed. This component is required for the installation of Outlook Mobile Access. Please goto Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs or the Configure Your Server wizard to install ASP.Net." I'm not sure what to do here.     - 5.5 ->E2003, Now external forwards no work, using old IMC OK we had a shop come in and install a new machine with exc 2003. They left in the 5.5 machine in the org. They will later remove it i guess to lazy to worry abou mx records. But now external forwards arent working for users with internal boxes??! I have enabled auto reply/forwares on the internet msg formats on new box. But the old 5.5 server runs the internet mail service. It is my though that somewhere, new server forwards to old server and sends to the internet but dies. All other inbound/outboud wors fine!     - Default OWA Web Site URL Hello All, I hope someone can answer this question for me. It would be greatly appreciated. My OWA is working properly.... I access it using servername/exchange We would prefer to add a header to it so that we can use a different url; however, since it is under the default web site, we can't seem to do this like with a regular site.     - Exchange MTA and System Attendent services did not install Hi I was performing an installation of E2003 to a new box and using ADC to connect to E5.5 so I can move the mailbox over to the new E2003 server. I discovered that MTA and system Attendent were not installed. It did not appear in the Services, therefore I was not able to establish a connection agreement using ADC. anyone know how to "force install" the required services?? However, when I take the 5.5 machine offline and use the 2K machine I want to keep the same name as the 5.5 machine so users will not be affected. Does anyone have any ideas?     - Trouble with OWA on upgrade to Exchange 2003 Yesterday I had Exchange 2000 running fine (including OWA) on Win2K server. I then installed Exchange 2000 on another Windows 2000 server, moved all the mailboxes from the previous server to the new server, upgraded the new email server to Exchange 2003, and finally upgraded the OS on the new server to Win2003. From there I upgraded the old Exchange 2000 server to an Exchange 2003 server and made it a Front-End server. Now Outlook still works fine. In fact all the old email clients that were still pointed to the original server transparently get redirected to the new email server. The problem is, I can't get OWA to work on either server now. If I browse to the original Exchange server where OWA was working fine, I'm prompted for my username and password - but even after entering them I get prompted over and over until I've run out of retries and then I get an "Access denied" screen. On the new server, OWA actually appears, but without the fancy formatting and without any data. The shell with the "Inbox," "Contacts," and "Calendar" menu appears in the frame on the left and the "Loading..." message appears below the top menu in the frame on the right, but that's it. The formatting looks like the server can't find a CSS file. Clicking on the Inbox or anything else just gives a javascript error. None of my emails, contacts, or anything else ever appears.     - Setting up Exchange 2003 on a cluster with Network Attached Storage Hi All! We are planning an upgrade of our domain controllers (primary and backup). Since the PDC currently also acts as an Exchange 2000 server and in the new architecture we want the maximum reliability we can get, we were thinking of making a cluster out of the PDC and BDC in order to install Exchange Virtual Server on it. Now, the problem we are facing is that the server will have to use a NAS as the shared disk to hold all of its files, so the Exchange data files will go there as well. At the moment we are using Exchange 2000 server, but it seems that such a setup would lead to some problems with the database mounting because the directory wouldn't reside on a local disk.     - unable to resore Exchange in a different forest We are backing up (full)Exchange 2000 daily using Veritas. We have never tested a restore. My task is to do jus that for the company. We would like to simulate a worst case scenario in which the Exchange server is completel destroyed. So a full server recovery scenario is the order of the day here Let me explain our setup All our servers are running Windows 2000 sp4 and we have 1 Exchange server with sp3 (member server). We have 2 D one of them is in Montreal and the other is in Los Angeles. We have high speed links between these sites.The Exchange server is a clean install as our other servers are. We have 1 test server for the Exchange database restore. It is in a different forest and its site (Exchange name) name is the same as the production server. It is on the same subnet. The Test Exchange server is ready for a restore. I must set up a trust because Veritas backup admin account must have the right to restore the information store on the other forest. So i try to set up an inter-forest one-way non transitiv trusts without any success (KBQ315053. The error i am getting is the rpc server is unavailable. So i check unde services and the RPC service is started. I go under security in the event viewer and there is an error 52 (bad password or wrong username). I re do the trust and the same error occurs. I then check both DNS settings an yes i can ping each namespace. I believe that this problem has something to do with the authentication used between 2 forests. I am using NTLM Please has someone restored an exchange server on a different server while the production server is stil running? Specifically how to establish an inter-forest trust without the errors? And yes please do not point to the disaster recovery paper.     - Exch 2003: New address list does not appear in Outlook Address Book I'm setting up an Exchange 2003 server under Windows 2003. So far everything is going well with one exception: when I make a new address list in System Manager it never appears in the client Address Book. The client is Outlook 2001 (Mac.) I'd like to make an address list that is staff only so I can use it as the primary address list for all the employees instead of the cluttered global one. I can create the new address list easily in System Manager with the criteria that the AD group "All Staff" is the filter for Address List population. When I hit the "Preview" button I properly see all the people I'd added to the AD group "All Staff". When I go to the client Address Book I can see pop-up list does not include my new address list. When I select "all address lists" it still does not show up. I'm using the default permissions on my new address list. Nothing I've done has worked.     - Transfering Mailboxes to New Server W/ Different Domain Our company recently changed it's name, so we're setting up a new Windows Domain. Our older Single Exchange 2000 Server resides on the Old domain. Because of a hardware issue, we're having to rebuild the box. We're planning to install Exhange 2003 on the new system. My question is, Is there an easy way to transfer the mailboxes from the old server in the old domain, to the new server with the new domain name? I upgraded/reinstalled my trial version of Ex 2k3 to retail. Seemed to go ok, but is there a way to verify that i am running the retail version? If i check another trial machine i have, it and my upgraded machine show same build #.
