Here's the sitch..

I have Exch 5.5 (std.edition) on a Win2000 Server box. I
plan to upgrade that to Exch 2000.

Then, I plan on buying a new server with Windows 2000
(member server) and putting Exch 2003 (enterprise edition)
on it. Is this an effective route to upgrade to 2003? If
so, should I have any problems moving the mailboxes over
from on box to another? And, how are mailboxes moved over
from 2000 to 2003?

If you are going to be installing Exchange 2003 on a separate box, why not
go straight to Exchange 2003?

* Chapter 4 deals with upgrading from 5.5.

As long as you install Exchange 2003 into the same site/Administrative Group
as the upgraded 2000 server, then you will have a Move Mailbox option under
Exchange Tasks when you right-click a user or set of users in Active
Directory Users & Computers.

There are some added advantages from moving the mailboxes using the ADU&C
MMC or ESM on the Exchange 2003 server. See the following for more
