I am in the last phase of decomissioning exchange 2003 from my 2007 Exchange
environment. I am trying to remove exchange 2003 from add/remove programs
but receive the error "one or more users currently use a mailbox store on the
server". I checked in AD and in Exchange 2003's system manager and the only
mailboxes that are in 03 are the SystemMailboxes. Any ideas? If anything,
is it necessary to do the Add/Remove program removal for Exchange 2003 since
the server will be formatted anyways?

Use Active Directory Users & Computer Snap Find from the Action menu to
search for mailboxes on your Exchange 2003 Server.

I did a search in ADUC for Exchange 2003 mailboxes and the only ones that
come up are the "SystemMailboxes". Everything else is showing as being on my
new exchange 2007 server.

Possibly a user with Exchange Attributes without a mailbox.

Lets do a simple test to check do you actually have a mailbox on your
Exchange Server.
1. You would have to install Windows Support tools (on your DC /
Exchange server)
2. Run the cmd csvde -f >C:\ADUC.csv
3. open the ADUC.csv in Excel sheet.
4. Search for the column homeMDB or msExchHomeServerName - if any of
this matches your old server - search for another attribute
DistinguishedName.
5. If you were lucky then you would find another mailbox (apart from
SMTP, System, System Attendant) - go and remove attributes.
6. Try uninstalling Now.

OR you could try to go down to Open ADSIEdit.msc and go to below path.

Configuration -> CN=3DServices -> CN=3DMicrosoft Exchange -> CN=3D<ORG Name=
>
-> CN=3DAdministrative Groups -> CN=3D <Admin Group Name> -> CN=3D<Server
Name> -> CN=3DInformationStore,CN -> CN=3D<Storage Group Name> ->

Check all the mailbox stores one by one like this.

Right click on CN=3D<Mailbox Store> & select properties. Find an
attribute homeMDBBL check the value of it. Values shouldn=92t contain
any user mailbox (except SMTP, SystemMailbox & System Attendance)
