Hello,

I'm new to Exchange server and I'm trying to configure the MS Exchange =
2000. I have Exchange running and now I'm trying to send emails out from =
my outlook through Exchange. However, when I send email from my computer =
I can see that email sitting on the queue of my Default SMTP Virtual =
Server and never going out. Pretty much I have default settings but =
something must be missing.=20
Are there any quick steps that would verify SMTP configuration?

Also, here is the message history from the message trace dump:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------=
----------------
Tracked message history on server MYSERVER
SMTP Store Driver: Message Submitted from Store
SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queuing
SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue
SMTP: Message Submitted to Categorizer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------=
----------------

Any help is greatly appreciated,
Les

SMTP Not sending emails... by Pete

Are you using DNS or Smart Host to send out your email?
You can determine this by going to your SMTP
Connector/Properties/General Tab.

Pete

I'm using DNS.

Apropos, I don't have a connector. Did you mean SMTP connector? I don't
think I need it since I have only one server that needs just simple
(default) configuration.

Thanks,
Les

Hi Les,

I would suggest doing an NSLookup and then a Telnet to some outside =
servers to make sure your DNS is setup properly and that you have =
connectivity to the outside. Just use the following articles to help.

203204 XFOR: How to Obtain Internet Mail Exchanger Records with the
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=3D203204

153119 XFOR: Telnet to Port 25 to Test SMTP Communication
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=3D153119

Hope this helps,
