I am trying to setup my Exchange Server 2003 on my server at my home office.
My ISP (BellSouth) doesn't allow outgoing mail through port 25 that isn't
through their server. My Web host uses port 587 for outgoing as an
alternative port, but I cannot proxy through that port to send emails
either. Is there a workaround to use another outgoing port to send email
through Exchange?

Thanks!

- Send outgoing through their server (set it up as a smarthost on the Send
Connector). Contact them for the credentials if authentication is required.
- Get a "business" connection or switch to an ISP that does allow sending
outbound.

I doubt any ISP anymore will let anyone send outbound through another domain
these days (home users, anyway) and business DSL doubles the price and
reduces the speed by 1/2. I can't justify spending double for 2 Exchange
mailboxes. I travel and am out of town fairly often, so being able to sync
my phone and laptop through the mailbox would be very helpful.

How does setup using smarthost work? Do you have a link or other that would
help?

Thanks!

The following doc has the details:
Configuring an SMTP Connector
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998478(EXCHG.65).aspx

In brief: Create SMTP Connector, add address space *, add the IP address or
fqdn of your ISP's SMTP server as a smarthost. Add your SMTP Virtual Server
as a bridgehead. Configure any authentication if required by ISP.
