    - An Exchange 2007 server on which an address list service is active cannot be found I get this error when moving mailboxes from 2K3 to 2K7 and found an article that suggests that the System Attendant on the 2K7 stopped which is indeed the case. Starting it resolves it. The article suggests that the SA stops unexpectedly. Any idea why? I have the Forefront Client and Anti-Spam installed. Tag: Roll up5 & OWA Tag: 162711

    - Exchange 2007 Roll-up 5 Hi, Just to let you know that I have found that installing this roll-up broke my Cliant Access/Hub Transport server whereas Roll-Up 4 is working as it should. Most of the services refused to start with errors ranging from "within specified time" to "30000 milliseconds". Uninstalling RU5 solved the problem. Anyone else picked this up?     - Exch2007: Version Buckets We are continaully getting high version buckets. Our attachment size is low and we dont have virus issues. Microsoft states that version buckets are the number of uncommitted changes in memory that have yet to be written to log. I am curious if the number of items in memory are related to the amount of memory I have? Shouldnt a 8 GB machine allow more uncommited changes to memory than say a 1 GB machine?     - Setting up second Exchange 2003, no services showing I have exchange 2003 running on one server. I've setup exchange 2003 on another server at a remote location, but on the same domain. The remote location has a DC there also. I installed exchange and everything went well. However, I see the folders and files that were installed, but I don't see any services listed to start exchange. The only thing I see in the exchange management tool. So I re-installed it again and it showed that exchange and management tool were already installed, but it let me install them again.     - CAS Server in perimeter We currently have a few FE 2003 Exchange servers in the perimeter network. We are planning replace those with 2007 CAS servers. I understand that Microsoft does not officially support CAS servers in the perimeter. However, I know people are doing it successfully. We do not currently have the funds for any other servers so I need to do this. Are there any additional firewall holes that CAS servers require?     - New address book issue Exchange 2003 SP2 I have created a new address book that contains contacts that are external to our mail domain, but it does not seem to be populating correctly. The address book query is: (&(objectCategory=person)(targetAdress=*example.com)) When I click the preview button, it only shows two contacts.... but when I click modify and then find now it shows all the contacts??     - Exchange 2003 and Pop3 Ok Guys hereâ??s the plan My company wants a Blackberry Enterprise server, howeverâ?¦.they use Sun Iplanet for company email and BES does not work with Iplanet. The idea I have is to setup an Exchange 2003 server to pull the email via pop3 from the Iplanet server, then have the BES server grab the email from exchange and pass it to the Blackberry device (our NY office has a setup like this using IBM Domino) Coming back the BES should just b able to pass the emails back via SMTP straight to the Iplanet mail server. The most important thing of all is that all emails MUST use the company email. For example if the email was for/from testy.mctest@test.com then all emails sent from the blackberry MUST show as being from/going to that address And thatâ??s where im getting stuck, I cant find enough info on that last part and thatâ??s the most important part of it. We are looking at having around 150-200 users on this system, so it seems using SBS2003 is out of the question. Can anyone provide some help with information for this?     - DNS I am setting up an exchange server for my work. When I add the DNS on the "forward look up zone" website.com I am getting a yellow triangle with an exclaimation mark on the folder.     - Exch2003/SBS2003 - Cannot Receive Emails I am working with a single Exchange 2003 / SBS 2003 server. Domain users stopped receiving external emails last Friday. I have sent test emails from several domains to this server for testing. No NDR is sent back. I am able to telnet to the domain on port 25. I reran the Internet Connection setup. The domain is platinumaquatech.com. Mail is routed using DNS and this is the only server in the company. MX records point directly to this server.     - EX 2007 - No incoming mail Hi, we recently installed EX2007 with the following configuration: 1 Server for Hub, CAS and Mailbox, one as Edge transport server. The Edge Server is connected with one NIC directly to the internet (we did not set up a firewall yet) and with the other NIC to the switch where all other servers are connected to (like DC, etc) I followed quiet precisly the instructions of the set up and we are able to send outbound mail without problem. When I try to send an email or answer one of the sent mails, I get the following error: A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients. Contact your administrator. So we tried also with a differnet mail system and got this error: SMTP-connection with IP [xx.xx.xx.xx:25] herzustellen Thu 2007-11-01 18:58:06: * IP xx.xx.xx.xx in connection failure cache for up to 5 minutes due to previous connection failure(s) I have no idea what could cause this error, any help is very much appreciated.     - POP3 failing top connect from outside network I enabled pop3, and set the binding to 0.0.0.0:110, ie open to anyone(I think). When I connect to it from the local network with the local IP it works perfectly, but when i try to connect via the external IP from outside the company or even from within, the port seems closed.     - Merging 3 Exchange 2003 Organisations ... Gidday, I have 3 Organisations on individual (physically) separate domains. These organisations will be merging into a single new organisation in the next 6-12 months. I need some (initial) information on how we are going to get the 3 organisations using one Exchange (2003?) database in the easiest fashion. I don't have a lot of information on the "other organisations" yet, but I am told that they are running Windows 2003 domains, and using Exchange 2003 as their Email Server ... so we want the "final organisation" to be running a Windows 2003 domain, using a single Exchange 2003 Server (instead of 3 separate ones). * We have already selected the largest domain to be the domain of the "final organisation" ... the smaller domains will be "merged" into this domain. * The users on the smaller domains will want to be able to receive email to/from their email address on the "final organisation's" domain ... and this will be their primary address ... but they will also need to receive emails from their "old address on their old domain" for a period of time. * The users on the smaller domains will need to have access to their email history when connected to the "final organisation's" domain - i.e. we will be merging the 3 Exchange databases into a single Exchange database.     - Public Folders of Decommissioned Ex2K Hello, We have installed an Exchange 2007 server in an Exchange 2000 organization and have moved all mailboxes to Exchange 2007. My company uses email enabled Public Folders heavily(over 500) and I have set these up to replicate with the new Exchange 2007 server. All the folders have replicated and everything is fine so far. I am confused how to go about decommissioning the Exchange 2000 server while ensuring the public folders are not lost. I have read MS articles which specify to use either the ReplaceReplicaOnPFRecursive.ps1 or MoveAllReplicas.ps1 scripts (http:// technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb331970.aspx) but I also found articles which specify to add the new Exchange 2007 server to the replica lists. If I have already added the new Exchange 2007 server to the replica lists do I still need to run the scripts?     - Can't send email to myself I'm having problems sending and receiving email (neither works at all) but, the fact that I can't send email to myself seems like a good place to start tracking down these problems. Outlook Express connects to the mail server fine and says the email got sent. When I try to receive email from the Exchange Server it checks the server but doesn't return with the sent email from myself. OE doesn't return any error message.     - Drawing a Blank These Iâ??m sure is probably the most basic of basic questions but for some reason or another I am drawing a complete blankâ?¦.Iâ??ve done this before without incidentâ?¦but perhaps Iâ??m having a pre-senior moment. I have in place the following configurationâ?¦.a ccr cluster (seems to be working fine), a hub transport/client access server, and an edge server (that is sitting on the 3rd leg of my isa serverâ?¦dmz scenario)â?¦â?¦Iâ??ve setup communication between the edge server and hub transport by putting in place a rule to allow for ldap and smtp traffic (Iâ??ve confirmed that this works by telneting to the ports defined without incident . I can connect to the mail and send mail internally using outlook 2007 (which appears to be a very good thing)â?¦..now comes my challengesâ?¦.which is why I am posting these questionsâ?¦â?¦ On my edge server there are multiple options that look as though they need to be configured, my problem is that Iâ??m not certain as to whether or not they should be or whether the default install sets them up as they need to be. 1. Receive Connectors: Currently set to hostname of server. Should this be set to external name ie: mail.domainname.com? 2. Do any changes need to be made on the Network, Authentication or Permission Group tabs? 3. Send Connectors, Transport Rules, and Accepted Domains: This is currently emptyâ?¦..do I need to add anything here or does the configuration on the Hub Transport take care of this? On the Hub Transport Server I have what appears to be several receive connectors (Client and Default) what do I do with these? 1. Do I change the fqdn to the external name (like I outlined above) 2. The Network Tab shows port 587â?¦..where is this used and do I need to change it? 3. Authentication and Permission Groups are set up as defaultâ?¦..ie: TLS, Basic, Integratedâ?¦my guess is that I donâ??t need to change anything hereâ?¦Permissions Groups only has â??Exchange Usersâ?? 4. On another note can I completely remove these and setup a custom connectorâ?¦.if so what fields need to be populated? On a final noteâ?¦.my isp blocks port 25 so Iâ??m using dyndnsâ??s mailhop servicesâ?¦. 1. The instructions they give apply to exchange 2003, how can I incorporate these into 2007 http://www.dyndns.com/support/kb/mail_servers_and_mailhop_outbound.html#exchange2003 Iâ??m going to be using port 10025 for inbound, 2525 for outbound. 2.     - No mail flow I'm in the midst of changing ISPs. I run my own mail server at home (Exchange 2003) and yesterday I attempted to move to the new ISP. After reconfiguring for the new ISP I was receiving mail but I was unable to send. After two hours of attempting to fix I decided to go back to the original setup (original ISP) temporarily until I could troubleshoot more. Now I have no mail flow in either direction. I can telnet to my mail server on port 25 from the Internet and locally. I can access OWA from the Internet. From my mail client (OE) I can send mail to myself but it never comes back to me when I receive. If I send mail from GMAIL or Hotmail to my Exchange Server I get no non-delivery reports but the emails never show up in my inbox. I am stumped and would appreciate some help. I run a single Windows 2003 server with Exchange 2003 on it. One of the things I attempted to do yesterday, when changing to new ISP, is remove the SMTP connector I had been using to relay mail through old ISP and send mail through local SMTP on the same server. This seems to be when all the problems started. I have since recreated the connector but still no love.     - ESM Access is Denied Error I have Windows XP SP2 and I am trying to install Exchange 2003 ESM on it. I ran the setup and select only the Microsoft Exchange System Management Tools. However, I get the message "Access is denied...Facility: Win32 ID no: c0070005...Microsoft Exchange Setup". I am a domain admin and has local administrator rights on the PC.     - 2000 to 2003 Move/upgrade help I have exchange 2000 on a win2k server, I have just finished installing a new win 2k3 Server, with Exchange 20003, I'm about to move all my Mail boxes to the new server (about 50) but started thinking about how to pull my 2000 offline. Can I make a CNAME alias of oldserver pointing to newserver set my IP address on the new (2003) server to the Oldserver address (this is mainly for firewall redirection, so I dont have to make changes there) this would also take care of my MX records!     - Website Email not be delivered since taking out last 2003 exchange server. We have a few different websites in our DMZ that send email both manually and automatically (such as Replicon Time and Attendance, a custom site, and SQL Reporting Services 2000). We recently removed our last 2003 Exchange Server from the mix in favor of Exchange 2007. Since removing that last 03' box our sites don't send email and I'm completely puzzled. I've changed over all the IP address on the sites. I've setup appropriate firewall rules for the new server. Port 25 is open on the new server and its working for all other email issues.     - SPF Record Wizard I ran dns report from dnsstuff.com and it shows that we do not have an SPF record configured to prevent spoofing. We have a website that is hosted by Company A and we have our ISP configure the mail MX and point mail to our exchange server and domain. The website and our exchange server share the same domain name: The website is: city.state.us The exchange server is: mail.city.state.us Our internal domain is also: city.state.us Now, internally I configured the "Forwarder" in DNS to point to our ISA server which then points to the ISP dns servers. Who creates the spf record? Do I create the record and put it on my dns server OR does the ISP configure it along with the MX, PTR, A, etc? The ISP has to configure do they not?     - Exchange 2007 Relay Hello, hope everyone is doing ok. Sorry this is so long, just trying to set up scenario. I have a problem with relaying in 2007. We are running EX2003 and Ex2007. On 2003 we were running cluster and I had an SMTP connector which processed email in and out of the comnpany. It is still active, but I have created a relay connector on the HUB server to use as a replacement. I am switching all web servers to use this server as a smart host and handle SMTP relaying. I have created a receive connector called Relay and in it added in the ipaddresses of the servers that can use this connector. If I telnet from one of those allowed addresses on port 25, it connects and lets me send email, but only to an internal address. I get an unable to relay error if I try to send to an outside address. I am not sure about the authentication on this connector. it was set up by a consultant, and these are the settings. I don't want outside servers to relay through this connector, but let internal servers, specified by ipaddress to relay inside and out. Authentication is TLS and Externally Secured (for example with IPec) Permissions group is set to Exchange Servers. The ipaddresses set to relay are not exchange servers but regular web servers using IIS and default SMTP mail, and programs running on those servers creating mail on the fly. Do I need to change something on that connector to allow relay from those servers to the outside. I have read the help on authentication, but still don't know what to use. help is always appreciated.     - Best Disk configuration Hello all, I understand the *best* disk configuration for an exchange environment. However, I do not have the hardware to allow me to set that up. I have exchange 2003 ent with outlook 2003 clients. I have a dell server with 6 drives in it with the capability to configure raid levels as 1, 5, and 10. Here are the disk layouts 4 - 146 g SATA drives 2 - 300 g SATA drives I have decided on 2 disk configurations (open to other suggestions) and would like some input as to which one would be better: option 1: c Drive - RAID 1 two 146g drives for OS d Drive - RAID 1 two 146g drives for transaction logs e Drive - RAID 1 two 300g drives for exchange DBs option 2: c Drive - RAID 1 two 146 drives for OS and Transaction logs d Drive - RAID 5 four 300g drives for exchange DBs What I dont know is if the *overall* performance would be better by: 1. keeping the OS, logs, and DBS on separate physical disks (while losing performance on reads with the DBs on a RAID 1) OR 2. put the transactions logs on the same physical disk as the OS (fighting over I/Os, we all know the importance of fast writes to the transaction logs) and get the better read performance from the exchange DB because its on a RAID 5. Long story short, i don't know if its better to have DBs on RAID 5 or to keep the OS and transaction logs on separate disks (keeping in mind this way puts the dbs on raid 1).     - edge transport implementation lab/live combination environment. I have an existing SMTP gateway that delivers mail to a hub transport server. The receive connector is setup on the hub transport and works fine. This is for domain 1. I have an Edge Transport server that I want to deliver to domain 2 for testing. It is already configured in the DMZ with proper port assignments and IP configuration and public DNS settings, and has been run through the SCW. I have a Hub Transport server with Send connectors configured for all outgoing email. After I complete testing and spam configuration on domain 2, I plan to replace the existing SMTP gateway with the edge transport server on domain 1. (which is the whole reason I'm doing this.) with the update rollup 4, i didn't have any problems

now i am thinking to un install the roll up 5, and re install

It depends. What troubleshooting did you do after installing rollup 5?
Were all services started after the installation? I've literally just
deloyed rollup 5 to a CCR cluster build today and there have been no OWA
problems to report.
