NDR when sending from Outlook 2K thru new Exchange server
I'm new to Exchange and am attempting to setup a new
Exchange server on our network on it's own subnet for
testing purposes. We currently have several sites with
their own Exchange servers and each is connected to
our "main" Exchange server using both Site Connector and
Directory Replication Connector. I've freshly loaded NT4
with SP6a as a BDC and Exchange 5.5 with SP3 and setup
Exchange as a new site. Then configured the site connector
from the new server to our "main" Exchange server after
which it gave me a chance to setup the connector on the
other side which I did successfully. Then I setup a test
user in the domain and a mailbox on the new server and
configured Outlook 2K on another machine for the client.
I can logon to the mailbox and send email to the test user
from the test user's account but if I try to send to
anyone else I receive an NDR that says "No transport
provider was available for delivery to this recipient".
When I send email from another account to the test user I
don't get any NDR but the email is never received. All
servers are on the same Windows domain and there doesn't
appear to be any connectivity issues. All Exchange
services are running including the Message Transfer Agent.
There is a "Type: Information" message repeated fairly
often in the Event Log from "MSExchangeIS Public" that
says "The table is closed. Type 9" (other log entries have
different type #'s). Since I'm an Exchange newbie who just
took over managing our servers it's likely that I've
missed something basic but can't seem to determine what.
Can anybody help or point me in the right direction?
Thanks,

Exchange 2003 upgrade
I recently upgraded to exchange 2003 from 2000. The
server is up and running fine on a windows 2000 domain.
All new emails that come in are directed properly and can
be opened without any trouble. When you attempt to open
an email that had exsisted prior to the upgrade it causes
outlook to lock up and request data from the exchange
server. Basically you can't look at these messages
anymore.
Any idea whats wrong?

Locking down ICS in Exchange 5.5
Good Afternoon,
I am running Exchange 5.5 and would now I have implemented a external SPAM
company to filter my mail first before it ever hit my server. My problem is
that I need to ONLY accpet connection from this SPAM company's mail server
for this to work correctly. For some reason SPAMMERS do not go by the
typical MX record, so if they already have your MX IP of your mail server,
even if you direct your mail to a new anti-spam server first, they will
continue sending it directly to your mail server. Anyway, my quesiton is,
how do you lock down Exchange 5.5 to ONLY accept connection from one IP
Address?? My firewall is a Linksys Router and I can only forward ALL to a
certain port, there is no lockdown there. Any ideas on how to lock it down
through exchange?
Thanks,

Connect 2 domains together (with Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003)?!?!??
Hi!
What I will do:
I will connect 2 different domains together.
The big problem is that that the both domains are in 2 different cities
(Berlin and Munich).
The both domains should set up under Windows 2003.
Also should set up an Exchange 2003 server (with Outlook web access).
Members from both domains should have complete access to data on the other
domain.
The members should login on the other domain with his local account.
Email exchange should be setup under Exchange 2003 sever (at best without
POP3/SMTP).
The biggest problem is that I have no idea how to make it!! :(
Can someone give me some tips or info how to connect that both domains
together?!?
thx!

Uninstalling Exch2003
This should be pretty simple, but I think that I have been
looking at it for too long. I need to reinstall Exchange
2003, as the setup was incorrect and on the wrong drive.
I want to reinstall Exchange on the correct drive.
However, when I try to remove exchange, I get the message
about a mailbox existing and needing to be moved, or the
client mail disabled.
Ok, seems straight forward, there is the administrator
account and a test user account. No other account were
set up with mailboxes.
I have deleted mailboxes (from exchange tasks in AD users
& Computers) and I have also tried disabling exchange
features. No luck either way.
What am I doing wrong?

Pull mail from Other Mail server
Can Exchange be configured to pull mail from another Internet Mail server.
We already have email accouts setup as part of a contract with a third party

Exchange Activesync
Dear All,
I currently run a couple of Ex2000 servers, and have been interested by some
of the new features of Ex2003. In particular I have noticed the 'new' (in
exchange anyway) ActiveSync feature. I have noticed references on MS's site
referencing that this operates over "standard HTTP".
However, I've been unable to find detailed information. In particular, does
anyone know whether Activesync can indeed operate through the just the one
port with Ex2003? Presumably if it can, this involves some change to the
ActiveSync client on the Pocket PC, but again, I have been unable to find
specific details despite a long time searching!
If anyone knows anything about this, I would be most grateful for your
input.
Many thanks,

DNS and DS registration issues.
Have a 2003 server with AD & DNS running on it. We are
getting ready to install Exchange 2003 on the machine. In
preparation we are running the recommended DCDIAG tools
to ensure proper configuration.
The DCDIAG registers several errors which we cannot
figure out how to fix or if they have a real impact.
1 - the GUID name isnt registered correctly with the DNS,
however the server name is correct. Says we need to check
that the IP address is registered correctly.
2 - It is skipping all test becuase it says that the
<server> is not responding to DS requests.
It seems obvious that there is a configuration error but
for the life of us we can figure out what or how to fix
it.
We need to get this going so that we can start testing
our application.
Thanks.

Add Outbound Disclaimer Exchange 2003
Does anyone know if you can add a disclaimer in Exchange
2003 by simply adding a registry entry as you could in
Exchange 5.5. (See below) I am trying to avoid using the
sink event method.
Any help would be appreciated.
Legal Disclaimer on Internet Bound Email
In Exchange 5.5 there is a simple method for adding text
to all inbound or outbound Internet email. This various
options can be found in Q262097 and Q258206.
This section is limited to appending text to Internet-
bound email using Exchange 5.5. In effect, this can place
a 'legal disclaimer' on our outbound messages.
From the BackOffice 4.5 Resource Kit CD, locate the
imsext.dll.
Copy the imsext.dll to the Exchsrvr\Connect\Msexcimc\bin
folder on the server with the IMS
Register imsext.dll from the command prompt:
Regsvr32 <path to>\imsext.dll
4. Run regedt32
5. Click on the registry key:
Hkey_local_machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExch
angeIMC\Parameters
6. On the Edit menu, select Add Value, and enter the
following:
Value Name: NonRoutingExtensionDll
Data Type: REG_SZ
String Value: (enter the complete path to the imsext.dll)
OK.
7. On the Edit menu, select Add Key, and type
Extension. OK.
To append text to the body of Internet bound message
Open the Extension key you just created.
On the Edit menu, select Add Value, and enter the
following:
Value Name: OutboundAppend
Data Type: REG_SZ
String Value: (type the text to append to messages here)
OK & close Registry editor.
c. Stop and restart the Internet Mail Service to
effect the changes (a reboot is not necessary). If you
later edit the text to append to messages, the IMS must be
restarted as well.
Note that \par inserts a carriage return. Subsequent
carriage returns w/ bold text: \par\b then \par\b0 etc.
\par This message may contain privileged and/or
confidential information. If you have received this e-
mail in error or are not the intended recipient, you may
not use, copy, disseminate or distribute it; do not open
any attachments, delete it immediately from your system
and notify the sender promptly by e-mail that you have
done so. Thank you. Tag: Renaming an Exchange 2000 server Tag: 101863

Two servers, one 5.5, one non-exchange
We have Exchange 5.5 installed on a W2K box (NT domain), and it is the
second mail server for the company, on a single domain. What we wish to
do is have email forwarded to Exchange by the other server for a subset
of users on the primary mail server (non-Exchange). We have tried
various address spaces and routing options with no sucess - the best
we've done is getting the mail delivered to Exchange mailboxes, and the
users can read email, but not send email to the Internet. We have been
assuming that the way to do this is by setting up a subdomain for the
Exchange server to handle, but obviously have not done this correctly.
Has anyone done such a configuration, or know what steps to go through
for doing so?

Disaster Recovery Exchange 5.5
I am going onsite tomorrow to fix an exchange 5.5 issue.
The Exchange 5.5 server died (and it was on the PDC).
There are information store and directory service backups
that were done with Veritas Backup but there were no
backups for the PDC so all of the user accounts were
lost. The Administrator on site reinstalled the PDC and
is setting up a BDC for tomorrow. From what I can gather
online is that the restore of the Exchange databases
requires the original SIDs for the objects that installed
it or it won't let you restore. Is that true? If so, am
I hooped? Would it be possible to restore just the
mailboxes to another server and save the PST's
individually in outlook then import them back into the
freshly installed Exchange server? Also, when you use
the Import option for Outlook, does it pull the messages
into the exchange database? or does it leave it in the
local PST in the users profile? Any help would be
appreciated. Try and email me directly with the response
if at all possible.
Thanks in advance....

the /3GB Switch in the Boot.ini
as OS an Win2000 Advanced oder Enterprise Server edition
Does it mean that a system with 2 GB Ram und without
Windows 2000 Adv/Enterprise edition will never use more
then 1 GB?
Thanks for your help

Setup fails during replication
Our current Exchange server is running on NT 4.0 with
Symantic Anti-Virus running. I'm installing Exchange 5.5
on W2K Server. When I try to install it to join the
current Exchange server and replicate, it fails during the
replication with the following error and warning found in
the Application Event Log:
Application Log
Error: Exception e0010002 has occurred with parameters 9
and 0 (internal ID 30c0886).
Contact Microsoft Technical Support for assistance.
Warning: An error occurred adding replica of naming context
'/o=Lakeland Industries/ou=DECATUR/cn=Microsoft DMD' to
server 'LAKEVII' from server 'LAKEII'. <<0xc1030b0d - An
internal error has occurred during directory replication.
Stop and then restart the directory service. Then try
directory replication again.>>
Of course you can't stop and restart the Directory because
setup has not finished installing.

Exchange 5.5 org name with unsupported characters
We are going from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. Our
Exchange 5.5 organization name has a comma in it...stupid
us. We have 12 servers and 12 Exchange sites (one server
per site) stretched out over the country. With the comma
in the org name, it rules out all "upgrade" options. It
will have to be a migration style rollout. I've been
looking for documentation on this for the past week and at
this point I am actually considering a mass
export/uninstall 5.5/install 2k3/mass import on a very
long weekend. In our lab, I have tried the Exchange
Migration Wizard tools with no success. Is there any hope
and if so, what options do I have? Thanks. Tag: Renaming an Exchange 2000 server Tag: 101719
Outlook web access
My company has Exchange 2000 and we want to make an update to Exchange 2003.
I need to do it in stages and work in 2000 and 2003 together.
At the moment I have frontend server with OWA and backend with user mailbox.
In a test network it migrates frontend to 2003 and I cannot login to to
mailbox in 2000.
The error is -2147467259 (0x80004005)
Some additional configuration is necessary?
Thanks for your help
