Hello,

We installed an exchage 2007 server last week and renamed the box today. It
did not adhere to the naming convention.

It was the first exchange server for our company and there are no other
exchange boxes. I see how to remove a single exchange server, but doesn't
really apply to this situaiton. Righ tnow, there are several entries in the
configuration still pointing at the old server name.

Thanks.

- .... does it still work?
- Server naming conventions, and individual server names should be
determined/agreed upon before installing a server.

no, OWA is not working and many of the default policices and offline storage
point to the old server name. This is a test enviornment not a production.

Are you a politician? :)

No, just someone who's amazed to see things like Exchange servers renamed
post-Exchange install because the "naming convention" because it does not
adhere to the naming convention.... or do other interesting things like run
DCPromo on Exchange servers.

Exchange has dependencies on the server name - as such, it's not a good idea
to change it after Exchange is installed.

I can appreciate that. You should also understand that's why we did this
initial install in a test enviornment. I'm going to try and interpret your
response to formulate an answer to the original quesiton.

I think what you are saying is that this is no way to fix this and we should
do a full unistall of Exchange. Then perform a new fresh install of
exchange on the correctly named server.

Appreciate the answer.

Yes, he's the governor of California. He just does this stuff on the
side. He does both very well though.

You could revert back to the name of the server when Exchange was installed.
There's no way to "fix" it using a new name that I'm aware of.
