Hi,

Had a bit of a disaster applying SP4 to a 2000 server,
which will now not boot. Whilst that is out of action, I
need to recover users mail and get it up and running again.

I have installed a parallel version of w2k server on the
original box, so I can see the drives, including the
Exchange databases. The original server though, is dead -
I can just see it's drives. I want to be able to copy
those databases onto a new server (Server 2003, previous
was 2000). The new server will run 5.5 as before.

Is there any way I can copy these database files over to
the new server? The 2 servers will be called different
names - and are even in different Domains. I have no
record of the site ID's used at install time either! I
only need to recover the emails in the users mailboxes,
nothing else is needed.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Doing a DR recovery would get you your information stores back, but no
dice with the directory.
What exactly is wrong with the server? chances are that it's not dead,
you should be able to get it back in safe mode at the very least.

I followed the advice in a thread entitled "Move Exchange
5.5 to New Computer..." which has worked well, to the
point that I can now get all users back into their
Mailboxes on the new server.

The original server will not boot past a certain point in
any mode. I am looking at options for recovering it,
though to be honest I've now got most things up and
running on a replacement, so it's unlikely to get my
attention! I posted that problem to Windows 2000, Setup
and upgrade...

Thanks anyway!
