    - EAS and multiple email domains Hello We have setup exchange 2003 backend/frontend environment with owa/oma/eas on the frontend server. The problem is that we host multiple email domains and want to make it possible to all users to use EAS. The problem is that it only work when the user has the default SMTP adress on his profile (with or without a secondary SMTP-adress) It can sounds easy to put a default email adress on each user but sometime it is already in use by another user......... Example: user A has a email adress a@domain.se (default SMTP domain user B has a email adress a@domain1.se and need a "default SMTP domain adress a@domain.se" to get EAS to work who is already taken by the user above.     - OWA website not created during install I have installed exchange 2003 on a Windows 2000 server that was previously running Exchange 2000. the server was a DC/Exch server in another Active directory forest. Exchange was uninstalled. Server was demoted to a member server, Server added to new AD forest as a member server and then Exchange 2003 installed. Exchange seems to function perfectly within our Exchange org, however the OWA website/virtual directories were not created during the installation. IIS was installed and running at the time.     - Migrating Mailboxes Hi, I'm new to Exchange, so bear with me if I don't explain properly. Currently our e-mail is hosted by our ISP. I have an SBS2003 Server with Exchange installed and was planning on using it as our mail server. However it has several other apps installed, and I was afraid to setup Exchange to be the mail server because of resource. I then installed Exchange 2003 on another server, thus giving me two servers with exchange on them. My plan was to use the 2nd server for Exchange, and ignore the install on SBS. I have since found out that SBS comes with the pop3 connector, and I need that to have our ISP redirect mail to that server. OK, here's the question. I figured the best thing to do was uninstall Exchange from the 2nd server to avoid any confusion over the network since I had two server with Exchange installed and move apps off the SBS server to lighten it's load. When I try to uninstall Exchange on the 2nd server it tells me that there are mailboxes installed on that server and I can't uninstall it until moving those mailboxes. I'm trying to figure out how to do that, so I can uninstall from the 2nd server. Any ideas, or if you have any advice on how I should use my setup I would appreciate it. I have not had our ISP redirect e-mail yet to Exchange, so I could do whatever seems like the best way to set this up from scratch. Thanks for any advice? Mike Tag: RPC-OVER-HTTP Tag: 139960

    - Send As a Distribution Group We're a Ex2k3 SP2 in Win2k3 SP1 shop. We want certain users to be able to send e-mails where the FROM address is the e-mail address of a distribution group in AD. I gave the user Send As rights in the security tab and even restarted the information stores. Before I did this Outlook would pop up saying you don't have permission to send as this person. Now once I've restarted the stores, it says "You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator." How do I fix this?     - Attachments Bouncing For some reason I cannot figure out why, any attachment or email over 8mb is bouncing. I have looked at the mail stores and I do not see any setting that I have enabled to disallow 8mb or higher.     - rpc server unavailable Afther placing my FE server in the perimiter, and configuring my cisco pix firewall correctly , I am stil unable to start exchange system manager, unable to find domaincontrollers, errors in eventlog 1005 MSExchangeSA,MSExchangeDSacces 2104 , I have configured my domaincontrollers for rpc with regedit . Stil when I open all the ports on my Pix no communication possible. But I can ping the domain servers and reverse lookup works fine.     - Installing a Front End Server I want to install a front end exchange 2003 server in my DMZ. I have a back end server already installed on my internal network. The server is currently on the DMZ and not on our domain. Does the server need to be on our domain for us to install the exchange front server.     - Exchange 2003, Two servers, Two Instances of OWA Good evening. I recently upgraded our environment from Exchange 5.5 SP4 to Exchange 2003 SP2 on all new hardware. We have two offices each with their own mailserver but part of the same Exchange group and AD domain (private domain.internal). The two offices are connected via a VPN. Each server is configured with an Internet mail connector and they backup each other up for incoming Internet mail should one server be down (or its Internet connection) The problem: With Exchange 5.5, I was able to log into OWA using the external DNS name for one server to access mailboxes on either server (mail.domain.com/exchange could access mailboxes on mail.domain.com and mail2.domain.com and vis versa). However, with Exchange 2003, I am only able to access mailboxes on the server I log into via OWA (using mail.domain.com/exchange I can only access mailboxes on mail.domain.com and using mail2.domain.com/exchange I can only access mailboxes on mail2.domain.com) Am I missing something or is do I have something misconfigured?     - New DC \ exchange server I am setting up a new DC server(W2K3) which will also be the exchange (2003) server. This server will be replacing old hardware that is having trouble and is in need of replacment. The old server is functioning in the same role with the same OS and exchange software. The questions I have are; 1.     - Front End/Back End Hello, I currently have 2 exchange servers. Site 1 is primary about 250 acc'ts Site 2 is the second server about 60 acc'ts. I currently like this setup as if one goes down I have redundancy for mail still being qued then delieved when the other box is backup. My dilema is at Site 1 there server is nearing capacity and the price to do any hardware upgrades is not worth it as I will buy a new one. I've been reading up and it would seem I could benefit from having a front-end exchange box for both these servers to offset OWA access, RPS over HTTPS and mobile SSL access from smart phones as well as some load balancing according to MS. But it appears to me that this would then be my single point of entry and I would lose my ability of redundancy. Could someone out there please guide some info as to what way would be the best to go.     - OWA SSL Setup Problems... I'm trying to setup ActiveSync using SSL, so I thought I'd configure OWA over SSL first to prove the certifcates etc. I've following a couple of guides to the letter, creating my own certificate, enabling SSL 128b on the default WEB site etc, when I connect using https://server/exchange or https://server.FQdomain/exchange the certificate warning is displayed, then IE displays the page cannot be displayed.     - Exchange Mode upgrade? I have an Exchange Server that started life as Exchange 2000 on Windows Server 2000, and has since been upgraded to Exchange 2003 Standard Sp2 on Windows Server 2003 Sp1. It is a single Exchange environment, with the Exchange Server also doing duty as a redundant DC/DNS/DHCP/WINS server. The machine is also still in Mixed Mode.     - 5.5 unistall after migration to 2003 After migration from 5.5 to 2003. I went to the 5.5 box, put the cd in and unistalled. It is still showing in 2k3 system manger and now im getting errors in app log from ldap, ad connector looking for the old box. Do i need to reinstall 5.5 on my old box and use 5.5 admin to delete?     - Should I create multiple exchange stores or seperate the storage g I am looking to seperate our Admin people from the regular people so we can go ahead and apply poilcies to our exchange servers stores.     - installation order exchange 2003 sp2 and windows 2003 sp1 Hi, I always wait a bit before I install a service pack because I want all the bugs to be found. Well I think I've waited long enough on these. I have windows 2003 enterprise and wish to upgrade to sp1...but also on this server I have exchange 2003 enterprise sp1. So, which order should I install? I'm thinking this order: 1. backup of course then... 2. stop all exchange services 3. install win 2k3 sp1, reboot 4. install kb 898060 , reboot 5. remove imf v. 1 6. install exchange sp2, reboot 7. install Exchange 2003 kb 894549 and reboot...     - Upgrade E2K to E2K3 Hi All Can someone help confirm the upgrade path for FE/BE deployment we have?. We currently have a child domain child.company.com. It has two Exchange 2000 physical sites connected by a RGC. Each site has a single FE and BE E2K server. During the upgrade, it is recommended that FE are done before BE. Does that mean we have to upgrade ALL the FE first in every site first to E2K3 or can we do it by site (ie do Site 1 FE then do the BE followed by Site 2 FE then do the BE).     - Exchange 2003 SP2 upgrade and "Send As"-permissions I have upgraded a couple of Exchange 2003 SP1 servers to SP2 in my test-environment to prepare for upgrading production.. Apparently the "Send As"-permissions on all non-personal mailboxes have disappeared during the upgrade. (The "Send As"-permission is checked to enable users to reply to mail on behalf of the non-personal mailbox.) "Send As"-permissions on mailboxes hosted on the remaining Exchange 2003 SP1 servers are intact, so the upgrade DOES change "Send As"-permissions. Anybody else experienced this side-effect of SP2 ?     - Swing Migration - pushing new client Hi all, I'm taking baby steeps here at doing a swing migration from w2k to w2k3. I built up a temp w2k3 box with exchange3 on it tested at mail box migration and all seems to be going ok so far. My question is that I plan to push the 2003 outlook client first using a GPO (something I've never done). I'm wondering how this will effect those users that have there own contact or distribution lists in PST files on local machines?     - PFMigrate I have just installed a exchange 2003 server in my exchange 5.5 site and am looking to copy public folders to the new exchange 2003 server from the exchange 5.5 server. I have a Public folder connection agreement already setup. I will be using the Pfmigrate command to copy the public folders. My question is how does pf migrate work, would it create a copy (replica) of the public folders on the new server as thats what i want. I dont want pfmigrate to move the public folders from the exch 5.5 to exch 2003, i still want the public folders left on exch 5.5 and want to remove them in my own time. Can pfmigrate do this. Also can I use Pfmigrate to migrate selected public folders or does it do all the public folders at one time.     - Exchange 2003 migration Hi All, we are going to migrate our existing exchange 2000 into a new hardware server. New servers are running windows 2003 and exchange 2003. We have 3 remote offices A (A.123.com), B(B.123.com) & C(C.123.com) 3 child domain and 1 root (123.com). All the remote office will do the same migration. Each office has it own exchange server 2000 and AD 2000 servers. We are going to do the migration one by one (one weekend for one office) follow by 3 weeks. For the existing exchange server 2000, it running DNS, WINS and Active directory (DC). Now we want to separate the services into two servers, all the DNS, WINS and active directory (DC) is keep running at old server and upgrade it to the Wins 2003 DC.     - Installing Exchange 2003 Standard on Windows 2003 Enterprise Server. Hello. I have a single computer running Windows 2003 Enterprise Server. It is a DC and GC. It has two NIC's one private IP address and one public. The NIC with the private IP address scheme is set to be the first one accessed by network services. I am attempting to install Exchange Server 2003 Standard on the same machine. Forestprep and Domainprep are completed. The problem is during the "run setup now" step. I make my selections for drive and type of install (I chose custom). The setup starts and then about 1 second later says "Setup Completed Successfully" - Nothing gets installed though - no services - no Exchange system files.     - 'Access Denied' error during storage group restore on Exchange 2000 server Does anyone know why this might be occuring? I have built a copy of our W2k Exchange 2000 server in a lab partly to perform a disaster recovery test and partly to restore a mailbox from tape from storage group 1 (we do not backup individual mailboxes, and to restore one we need to restore the storage group and pluck out the mailbox using Power Controls). It is a rough copy (running different hardware and has different disk sizes and letters). I brought it on to the domain by using DCPromo off a PDC copy in the lab (built from a hard disk off a domain PDC). After that I ran setup / forestprep and setup / domainprep off the Exchange 2000 CD and then followed it with a setup /disaster recovery. Exchange seemed to install fine, but then it came to the stage where you had to restore the storage groups before rebooting the servers. I tried to restore the first one, but after about an hour I got an error from Veritas Backup Exec 10 saying 'access denied'. Why would this be the case? I do not have an external disk array in the lab like the real Exchange server does in the server room, so I could not make an exact duplicate of the disk partitions names and sizes. Is it impossible to do this with the disasterrecovery switch? I did redirect the storage group to a different disk using Veritas. I was wondering that the differences between the real server and the DR test one caused problems with Exchange disasterrecovery. Should I have just run the normal Exchange setup after the domain and forest prep, or is it something else? Also, when performing a restore after setup /disasterrecovery is it not possible to run it partially (e.g. one storage group rather than all of them) or redirect it?     - RPC over HTTP with 2000 and 2003 servers I have just about completed an Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 migration using the Move Server Method. I have all of the mailboxes moved to the new server and everything is working fine with the exception of RPC over HTTP (S). I am able to connect to OWA via HTTPS so I am pretty sure it is not a firewall or Cert issue but no Outlook clients can connect via RPC over HTTP (S). I get the error â??The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.â?? I have done many of these installations in the past and compared all Exchange and IIS settings with a working RPC over HTTP server in a different network and everything seems to be setup correctly. There are (2) variables in this setup that may be causing my issues: 1) I have left the old 2000 Exchange server (which is a DC) running to allow for automatic client redirection (I will remove its domain roles and DCPromo it after all the local outlook clients have auto-reconfigured to the new server) and 2) I have two GCâ??s one is a 2000 server and one is a 2003 server. Does anyone know if all GCâ??s must be 2003 and if all Exchange servers in the organization also must be 2003 for RPC over HTTP to work?     - Exchange 2K3 to Sendmail delay Hi, I've posted about this before, but still trying to figure this out. I'm having issues where e-mails to a particular domain is being delayed sporatically (more often than not though) though e-mail to just about everywhere else is fine. On my end, I'm running E2K3 SP2 on W2K3 SP1. The domain in question is a large bank, and they use Sendmail. What I notice is that messages going to this company sit in the queue for prolonged periods of time, but eventually goes out. When I check the queue status, I see all the messsaging sitting in there with a status of "queued". The queue status is always" active", and it would say "no additional information available". In message tracking, it'll show all the normal paths happening within the same second, but then it would say "queued for remote delivery" where it'll typically sit for 30 minutes before moving to the next step of being sent out. I should also note that this is not *always* the case... I've tracked messages to that domain, where message tracking shows everything happened within a second. So again, the delay isn't 100%... but more like 70% of the time (enough to cause concern). I turned up diagnostic logging to maximum on "transport", but it doesn't show me anything out of the ordinary (unless I'm not looking for the right things). When I spoke to the admins over there, they told me that their Sendmail may sometimes send a "deferred status", though in my SMTP protocol logs, I don't see any 4xx messages from their servers. Not sure if it matters, but when I try to telnet into any of their 6 MX records, I never get a banner screen (perhaps a feature of Sendmail?). So can someone please help me figure out what's happening here? Could it be that when their Sendmail is set to defer mail, could that be why my server queues their messages? For those who know exactly how exchange works, when a message gets to "queued for remote delivery", what is it actually doing at that point... is SMTP still busy trying to contact the server? What SMTP processes need to happen before it moves to the next step of "starting outbound delivery"? I really need to somehow either get this going, or at least figure out what's going on.     - upgrade question Our company was originally set up with the following server: Server 1: Windows Server 2000 Domain Controller Exchange 2000 I want to upgrade to move Exchange to a new server and upgrade everything to 2003. The end result will be as follows: Server 1: Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller Server 2: Windows Server 2003 Exchange 2003 My question is whether to upgrade to exchange 2003 on the old server before setting up the new one. For that matter, should I upgrade to Exchange 2003, then Server 2003 before installing the new server (I know you need to do Exchange first). Or should I just set up the new server with Server 2003 and Exchange 2003, move the mailboxes and public folders, decommision Exchange 2000, then upgrade the DC to Server 2003?     - RPC over HTTP setup help? global catalogs? I am trying to set up our Exchange 2003 STD server with RPC over HTTP, following the steps on the MS site (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;833401) and am stuck at "Step 2: Configure all your global catalogs to use specific ports for RPC over HTTP for directory services" where I beleive that I need to make changes in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\Parameters I am stuck as I do not have the NTDS folder in that location. I think I am missing something perhaps, can anyone assist? I think Im not certain is my Exchange 2003 server is configured to function as a global catalog server... How can I check that?     - KB888619 problem We installed KB888619 (& rebooted) designed to fix the problem whereby Entourage folders that are not in users own mailboxes are read only. However, it did not fix the problems. All users were delegated full permissions and rights to all other users inboxes, contact lists, etc. Do you know how to fix this problem? [Additional information: The Entourage clients are patched to the 11.2.1 (051004). Server is Windows 2003 SBS with automatic updates turned.     - Forest/Domain Prep & ADC question I have recently run Forest/Domain Prep via the Exchange Deployment tools. I also ran the ADC and ran thru the connection agreements. I did this on the 2003 server that will have exchange 2003 on it (member server). I have one DC in a mixed 2003 AD enviroment. Up to this point, everything has run without errors. Here is my problem. According to what I have read, at this point I should be able to see the some exchange attributes when I go to the properties of my users. Well, I don't see any at all. Are they supposed to show up after I actually install exchange 2003? I did not want to proceed if this is abnormal. One other note. Following through the steps in the ExDeploy wizard (I downloaded the newest version) I have installed the ADC (a;lso the newest version) and made my connections. At this point the Distribution Lists refuse to replicate because ADC thinks there are still users that have not replicated. The errors are two event id 8279's, listed below: ADC could not replicate cn=foo,CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=domain,DC=digiconinc,DC=com because it could not convert the object class (Connection Agreement 'Users: domain.digiconinc.com - DOMAIN\digiconinc' #1084) And, ADC could not replicate cn=Recipients,CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=domain,DC=digiconinc,DC=com because it could not convert the object class (Connection Agreement 'Users: domain.digiconinc.com - DOMAIN\digiconinc' #1084) The thing is neither of these objects exist is our Active Directory. I've tried even added objects in the Active Directory with the same DN, which replicated correctly, but that changed nothing. I can't figure out were these objects are coming from.     - Rebuilding Exchange 2003 tonight. Plan A. I'm about to go onsite & rebuild a customer's Exchange server. The guy who originally set it up changed the server name as well as the domain name somewhere in the process, so there are dozens of underlying problems and it's amazing their mail is working but not so surprising that IIS and plenty of other things are completely trashed with unresolved SIDs all over the error logs. I plan to simply back up Exchange using Windows Backup (Article ID 258243), document the server name, org info, IP etc. demote it, uninstall Exchange and then format it. I plan to then follow Article ID 273478 to verify that Exchange is fully removed from AD before re-installing Server 2003 on the box, promiting it, then installing IIS, Exchange 03, Server 03 SP1, Exchange 03 SP2 in that order. I've done this before with Exchange 5.5 and 2000, but not 03 yet. I think I can git er done in 6 to 8 hours tonight, barring anything I've missed. Anybody see anything wrong with my plan?     - SMTP ERROR AFTER SP1 INSTALL - HELP After I installed exchange SP1 on my main Exchange server I get an error message when I try to use a program that sends email notifications. The error is Notification options: The message could not be send to the SMTP server. The transport error code was 0x80040217. The server response was not available Now I get email back and forth through the organization and my server out in the regional office was not upgraded to SP1, and I have pointed the program to send email via that server and everything works without a problem, so it seems that once SP1 was intalled something screwed it up where the program can no longer send out notifications. I want to be able to allow employess to to use OWA. I also want my enviroment to be secure. I am looking at using a front-end back-end solution. From the research I have found it looks like the most secure. I am also looking at just putting the exchange server in the DMZ without the FE-BE solution. If I just put the server in the DMZ what kind of limitations will I have and what kind of risks does that pose for my email service? With OWA will the employess still have and be able to create personnal folders when accessing over the internet? What kind of limitations will we have with the calendar using OWA?     - Moving to SBS - advice Greetings I have decided that Small Business Server 2003 is more "my speed" and therefore I want to move our small business to that platform. Current we are running Standard edition Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2003. My thought was to setup a new box using SBS with a new domain name [newdomain.local] and make it trusted in the old domain [olddomain.com]. Then will I be able to simply MOVE the mailboxes from the Exchange server in olddomain.com over to the new SBS server in newdomain.local??? Is there a better way to acheive this? Any traps?     - Error installing Hi we are in the process of installing exchange 2003 to an excisting exchange 5.5 environment using the Exchange Server deployment tools. We have run through the various steps, including forest prep and domain prep, which both ran successfully. The next step is to run orgprepcheck which generates the following error in the exdeploy-Progress.log HrOrgCheck (f:\titanium\dsa\src\deploy\dsintegchk\cmdline.cpp:2730). Error code 0XFFFFFFAF(65455). We are running the install on a Windows 2003 SP1 Enterprised edition server. The active directory is Windows 2003 but includes 3 Windows 2000 domain controllers.     - RPC over HTTP on Exch 2003 SP2 w/ 2003 SP1 behind an ISA 2004 SP1 Firewall Hello All, I have my own offline Windows 2003 stand alone Root CA that has a subordinate Enterprise CA which also happens to be our Active Directory DC all running 2003 SP1. In this environment I am running a seperate Exchange 2003 SP2 server, again on 2003 SP1 and this IIS webserver has been issued a certificate from the Enterprise CA. This cert for which the CN is owa.domainname.com has been applied to the default website, where all of the exchange virtual directories are running. So, this Exchange server is the front and back end server with IIS running the RPC over HTTP proxy. Protecting this environment is the ISA 2004 SP1 firewall on Windows 2003 SP1 with the mail publishing rules already created for SMTP, OWA, and RPC over HTTP. OWA and OMA are working great from the internet through the ISA firewall but I am unable to get RPC over HTTP to work. I have followed several different tutorials online, some of them listed below for reference but none of them seem to address my exact environment (isn't that always the case :) and at this point I'm at a loss. I believe I have the RPC virtual directory setup propperly in IIS because I do see the login behavior from within my LAN as described in the instructions, of course once I am outside of the LAN and crossing over the ISA server it's a bit different. I have the OWA forms based authentication pop up because of the ISA publishing rule and then I recieve a 403 forbidden error in IE right away. I have the outlook client configured w/ the servername.domain.local for the Exchange server name and then in the Exchange Proxy Settings I have the same CN name that is used in the certificate which is owa.domainname.com with mutual authentication selected using the same proxy server name owa.domainname.com and Basic Authentication selected below. I have one server setup which is a AD domain controller for my domain and an
Exchange 2003 server. ps. This server is also the GC, DNS, WINS, and all that
good stuff. From network services I installed the option to support RPC/HTTP.
Installed SSL Cert and followed all the steps from here

for the life of me I still can't connect to exchange using http. If I am
local to the network and I start "outlook /rpcdiag" it still connect using
TCPIP. If I use IP filters on the server to only allow 80 and 443 it says
cannot find exchange server. Need less to say that this does not work from
the internet either. Help Help help!!!!
