I am new to managing an exchange server, I know the basics but have
one that has me scratching my head....

I have a user that apparently for a while, I just found out...hasn't
been able to open Outlook on her PC. She has been using Remote Desktop
to go into our TS to run it from there. The previous MIS guy just had
her do that. When we try and run outlook on her desktop and on the new
laptop that I just set up for her (thats how I found this) It says
that Outlook won't run. I have tested the install of Office 2003 Pro
and Outlook works fine for my account and also for one that I made
that was copied from hers.

I have looked at exchange and the AD account and I don't see anything
wrong. Any thoughts on where to look?

TIA.

Tim

Hi,

Are you using roaming profiles?

If yes you need to delete the users Outlook profile and create a new
profile. That should do the trick

Hello Tim,

I had this problem a while ago.

The reason of my problem was the profile of the user which was too big.
Maybe this helps you....

Regards,

Q

Yes, we are using roaming profiles or at least attempting to....I am
still ironing out some GPO issues and such. Where do I delete the
Outlook Profile? not sure I follow that....

I will check the size of this users profile. I don't think its that
big. Thanks for the reply and the info.

Hi,

Control panel on the client workstation, mail icon. Here you can delete and
create a new mail profile.

Thanks. Any idea where the actual files live? I am assuming they are
in the users profile somewhere. Since these machines for this user are
brand new installs I am going to hit the server and look around for an
older file that must be corrupt or something.....

Ok, I have logged onto a laptop as the local admin to try and delete
any Outlook profile that might be on there, as it looks like this has
something to do with machines that have a user profile that is way out
of whack. For some reason, mine is now doing the same thing. When I go
into Control Panel there is no MAIL option. The laptop has XP SP2. My
home machine is the same and it has it, now I am really confused.....
