    - Exchange Server In house vs Virtual Exchange hosted at ISP Hi all, Thanks very much for anyones time on this. My question is basically stated in the subject line. We have a firm of 80 users running a windows 2003 active directory network. We have been running office xp and poping mail through our ISP until recently the ISP suggested an upgrade to Virtually hosted Exchange. Unsure of what to do we decided to try it. The ISP said we needed to upgrade our Outlook application in the office xp suite to Outlook 2007. Not sure that was a good idea. Either way we did it.(now outlook is much slower) We started to role out virtual exchange when data transfer started to slow drastically, to the point nothing was working. Therefore we reversed everything back to pop/smtp. Can anyone backup virtually hosted exchange for a firm this size? Should we just go with inhouse exchange being we are in an active directory environment with 80 users? I assume it got very slow during implementation due to importing of pst files / transferring the .pst files over to the exchange.? Over all Im just looking for pros/cons to going virtual or going inhouse exchange being that we already have an active directory setup and having the exchange on our local lan just makes more sense to me but...?     - Migrated Exchange server won't delete I migrated from Exchange 2000 to a new sever running Exchange 2003 on a Windows Small Business Server 2003. I used the "swing" migration method as outlined in Microsft Article 821896. For the most part everything worked well. However, I am not able to delete the old server from the Exchange Management console. At first I did not think this way a problem as e-mail seemed to be working fine. But, over time, I have realized that e-mail is sometimes routed to the old server even though it no longer exists. I can see it in the queue of the new server. Although the older server is still listed in the Exchange Management Console, I get a communication error when I click on it. It indcates the information store cannot be found - which is true. The store is history. But when I right click on it, it does not allow me to delete it. I do not get an error when I try to delete it. I'm assuming this is a registry issue. I need to delete the old server from Exchange somehow. It is already gone from Active Directory. It is no longer on the network. Thanks. Tag: Palm Tag: 165293

    - Exchange 2003 & SBS 2003 questions? Hi there, About 3 years ago I dabbled with SBS 2003 on a new (cheap) Dell Poweredge Dual Xeon box to replace an aging NT4 server in my home network. Shortly after I decided that a fully fledged Domain server was overkill and decided to remove it. My home network of up to 7 PC's has functioned well but I now want to press the Dell back into service. I do not want to go back to a Domain Controller - Client/Server setup so I have configured it as a simple workstation getting its DHCP settings from my router like everything else on my network. So I was thinking...as Exchange Server is part of my SBS 2003 disc set would it be possible to install & configure Exchange despite the Dell not being a DC and part of a Client/Server setup? Would Exchange work on this peer-to-peer type of network? The thought of being able to access 'grown up' email from any machine on my network and having a 16GB limit on mailbox size is an advantage. :-) Is this possible and are there any resources out there that I might have a read of? -- Thanks & regards, -pp- Tag: Palm Tag: 165280

    - Install ES2003 on WS2003 in W2K Domain with ES2K also running on another server. Hi Folks, I have a Windows Server 2000 domain controller running Exchange Server 2000. I have a Windows Server 2003 (SP2) member server. I am trying to install Exchange Server 2003 on the member server. During the Deployment Preparation I am alerted to basic incompatibility between WS2003 and ES2003 which is apparently solved with judicious application of service packs. Noted. No problem there. I followed the deployment steps and DCDiag and NetDaig reported minor problems that were negligible, according to MSKB. I prepared the Forest, and the Domain and I installed. I was not alerted to any problems. I can't find any artifacts of this installation. No menu entry, no service definitions, no MCC Snap-ins, no new directories anywhere... The Installation GUI reported zero problems but the setup.log reports errors of the following form: Repeated 3 Times: setup.exe: ***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : ModuleID not found in map in GetSetupComponentByModuleID() -- [{DA943894-7A14-4FFF-BBDC-C004FAE2310B}] Repeated 8 Times: WizardUI: ***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : ISetupManager::GetGlobalCustomProperty() failed in CPageBase::GetGlobalProperty() So, I am mystified. With zero problems reported through the installation GUI and nearly zero anywhere else, I would think this was a successful installation and I would think I should be able to find a dialog to begin to configure this baby, but there are none in evidence. And I'm not the only one that thinks so - if I try to install an Exchange Server service pack, he thinks there is no Exchange Server installed on this machine either. Am I missing something?     - Verify my understanding please With having a hotsite in another state for Exchange 2007 CCR 1. If different subnets, Windows 2003 Server Enterprise will not work. This would require Windows 2008, correct? Any document that specifically states this would be greatly appreciated (for "verified" documentation for administration) 2. In a CCR deployment, ONLY the mailbox role can be installed on both nodes? This would require a separate server running CA and HT, correct? Again, any documentation specifically saying that ONLY the MB role can be installed would be greatly appreciated. All I can find states that is replicates the mailboxes but doesn't specifically state that no other roles can be installed on either node.     - Mail from Exchange 2003 user to Exchange 2007 Hi I am in the process of transitioning to Exchange 2007. I have a single exchange 2003sp2 server and I have installed Exchange 2007 on a new server. I have reached the point where I have moved a test mailbox from the Exchange 2003 server to the Exchange 2007 server. I am able to send mail from the mailbox on the exchange 2007 server to a mailbox on exchange 2003 but not the other way. When attempting to send a message to the Exchange 2007 user i get the following message returned Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: RE: direct again [Scanned] Sent: 12/03/2008 10:57 The following recipient(s) cannot be reached: ExchangeTest on 12/03/2008 10:57 The e-mail address could not be found. Perhaps the recipient moved to a different e-mail organization, or there was a mistake in the address. The exchange 2003 based users are all functioning ok when sending mail to each other and sending and recieving external email. I am using a smarthost and this is configured in the SMTP connector on the exchange 2003 server as the exchange 2003 server is the server I want to handle incoming and outgoing smtp until I am ready to switch. I have probably missed something very simple in the transition process so far but I can't see what it is at the moment.     - Administrative Account to all mailboxes I am using Symantec Backup Exec with the exchange agent for my Exchange 2007. I would assume that I need to setup an account that has access to all mailboxes. How do I accomplish this? Also, in exchange 2003 OWA, I would go to http://www.mail.com/exchange and put in my username and password.     - Exchange with Active Directory I am new to Exchange 2007. However, from what I read is it should be installed on a member server of a domain and avoid putting it on an AD server. However, in Exchange 2003, you could go into Active Directory and simply right click a user and go to exchange tasks. However, with 2007, you can't do that since it is not an AD machine.     - routing group master deleted We were setting up a new network for a client. We had a server called xyz-exchange. We installed Exchange 2007 on it, but never went live. This is a new exchange implementation, so no other servers were out there. The server crashed due to some other issues. We rebuilt it from scratch since there was no data on it. The only difference is we renamed it xyz-exch. So, the name changed. We reinstalled Exchange 2007 on it. I believe that we have everything working, however, when I run the Best practices Analyzer, I get a message(error) that states the routing master has been deleted. When I expand the message, it is pointing to the old server name, xyz-exchange and not the new xyz-exch. So, I guess my first question is how do I resolve this error? Is there something in AD pointing to it or is it in the exchange box? My other question is that why do I even have a routing master since I am not connecting back to an Exchange 2003 box?     - Exchange 03 standard/enterprise currently i have a single exchange standard server up and runing. We are going to be moving to a new server by setting it up as a second server adn then mirgrating the mailboxes and then removing the orginal server from the tree. My question is, we want to go to enterprise edition of 03. can I setup enterprise up on the new server on the same tree and them update it to sp2 (which is what we have on the server now) and then migrate the mailboxes?     - Gaining commercial exchange experience I have a problem in that I have 6 solid years of I.T experience but unfortunately it's all been in Lotus Notes houses.     - Cannot connect to Outlook Anywhere am trying to get Outlook Anywhere to connect so that we can use laptops at the company for email inside and outside of the domain. I have already purchased an SSL cert and have OWA working properly. We are running Exchange 2007 with Outlook 2007 clients, external domain radiant.us.com. I tried setting up OA with Microsoft's guide, entering the external host name as the same as used in OWA minus the "/owa" at the end (mail.radiant.us.com) as well as entering the same thing as the proxy on outlook. It seems to connect, asking for a password but never registering it correctly. One thing I noticed is that when it asked for the password it referenced the server.local domain in the Connecting to (exch.radiant.local). I tried changing this in the Outlook setup to "https://mail.radiant.us.com" but that did nto work either. I think it might have something to do with 'autodiscover' but I don't know how to set that up properly or if/what needs to be done with my SSL cert with that.     - Binding send connector to 2nd network card Here's an interesting one. The set up is as follows: Exchange Server 2007 (standalone - so Mailbox, Client Access and Hub Transport role) with two NICs. Both NICs have their own gateway/firewall. Now how do I get Exchange to use the second NIC for all outbound SMTP? I can create a send connector but can't see how to bind it to a NIC or an IP address.     - Convert from pop3 to Exchange I have 5 people setup using a pop3 account from an internet provider and we push that mail from the internet provider to an Outlook Client and this is saved as a pst file. I have just installed Exhcnage 2003 SP2 on the server. This is all new to me so this might be a stupid question, but I need to know how convert or migrate the pst files into Exchange and it what steps do I need to do this. I believe I also need to contact our pop3 provider and have them make some changes in an mx record to our outside ip address. On the front end server using http://FE_Servername/exchange I can access mailboxes that are on backend "A" and on backend "B". However, if I try with the domain name http://www.domain.com/exchange I can only access mailboxes that are hosted on back end "A". Mailboxes on back end "B" are receiving a 404 page cannot be found. I type the commend setup /PrepareAD /ON:mylocaldomain Then I get the message please go to the control panel to install and configure components. I then tried to install from setup and in the readiness checks it says setup cannot detect an smtp connector with an address space of * mail flow to the internet cannot work properly. It will allow me to carry on but I want to install from the command prompt as I am following a training cd and this what it shows. How do I correct so I can install from the command prompt?     - E-mail addresses not showing up I installed Exchange 2003 and I've added a few domains to the default recipient policy, but when I go to user's i've added in AD they don't have any E-mail addresses listed under the E-mail address tab.     - Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 swing migration - DCOM errors I am seeking some advice on the following DCOM errors that are occuring. Configuration: SonicWall ES200 accepts all SMTP traffic. From there the email is filtered and forwarded to Wilbur5, an Exchange 2000 server (which has been running flawlessly for years). The Exchange 2000 server is fully patched and up to date. I have added an Exchange 2003 FE server which accepts POP and HTTP traffic. There is also an Exchange 2003 BE (Exchange02) server to which users will be migrated. There is a test mailbox/user account setup for the 2003 BE server. This account can send/receive email, access from the outside via OWA works as well. The Exchange 2003 servers are also patched and up to date as of this morning (03-07-08). When logging into OWA, the FE server is properly directing requests and all is well. I am seeing the following DCOM errors on Exchange02 (the 2003 BE with the single "test" mailbox). This first error in the event log, followed by two others. I have the following: 1. Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition R2 Service Pack 2 named 009. This is the shema master and holds the FSMO roles and is the domain controller. 2. Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition x64 R2 Service Pack 2 that will be the Exchange 2007 server. 3. The x64 server is not a domain controller (does it need to be?) 4.     - Exchange 2007 + Remote Offices I wish to deploy exchange 2007 in all our offices, as we are in the middle of a massive rebuild. My main fear is that if we lose connectivity, between the offices due to a third party, then we're going to have issues. The VPN between all sites, is fine, and has been running very well. What I would like to know, is is it possible to deploy exchange 2007 in such a way, that one machine is responsible for collecting the email from the outside, and the will deliver it to the correct exchange box on which a users mail box resides? For example, if a user has their mail box on the Tokyo server, and the domain email in being received by the London server, will exchange automatically deliver it to the mail box in Tokyo, if that users mailbox, happens to be there? If that is the case, how to I configure OWA? After renaming the destination server, I restored the storage in order to recover my mailboxes.     - slow access public folders Hi, We have extended our exchange 2000 domain with an exchange 2007 server. From this domain we have replicated the public folders to this new server. Works ok. Now we have added another exchange 2007 server, created a second storage group and a public folder database on it. From the other exchange 2007 we have replicated the public folders to the second exchange server. Also works ok. Folders are accessible. However, when we shut down the first exchange 2007 server the public folders are almost inaccessible and it takes minutes to open them and sometimes you cannot open the public folders at all! In a few days we have to move the first exchange server to another location that will be temporarily disconnected from the network. This means we cannot access the public folders. Does anyone have a clue why we cannot access the public folders when the first exchange 2007 server has been shut down? At this stage we take remove the public folders from the first exchange 2007 server and only have them on the second one, but will this sort our problem? Any help is welcome! Thanks! Hi - I replied to your identical post in m.p.exchange.clients. In the
future, please don't multipost - if you need to post to multiple groups,
it's best to crosspost instead, by posting a single message to a handful of
relevant groups (separate the NG names with commas) so that everyone can
follow the thread. Multiposting wastes everyone's time, including yours, and
may lead to your actually getting *less* help rather than more.

Not at all, as long as all the groups are relevant (and MS group subscribers
are far more tolerant of this than the likes of comp.* etc) . The big
difference is that if correctly cross-posted, a message's replies in one
group will automatically appear in all the others. So, your message gets
extra exposure, and everyone can see all the replies that may have come from
other groups. Easier to keep track of, and fairer to the people who are
replying.
