    - server name change, now exchange not working?? Hello all, I recently deployed Windows 2003 small business server in our office to replace a very old windows 2000 box. When doing so, I initially named the server a different name than the server it was to replace. I then changed the server name from andy2 (not so creative name based on the server it was replacing... andy) to andy once it was fully in place and the old machine was out of the picture. This made it very easy for all of the computers in the office to still address the same network file stores and such, but a few things on the server such as web outlook stopped working. I get a 503 service unavailable error message on the web site. I looked at the exchange services and they are not running and will not start. In exchange system manager andy2 is still the only server it lists (which of course doesn't work as thats no longer the server's name). What do I need to do to change this? I thought I could just delete the old one and add a new one but no such luck so far. What is required in order to change all things that currently have the old name over to the new name?     - SMTP problems...HELP Hi, I'm trying to setup my SMTP service in Win 2003 SBS. My local domain name is domain.local and I have pointers setup to my external DNS server which is hosted by my ISP. I can do nslookup on all my computers and mail server and resolve any FQDN I type in. When I try to send an email to anyone ouside my network, I get this message saying: <mailserver.domain.local #5.1.8 smtp;501 5.1.8 Domain of sender address me@domain.local does not exist - on relay of: MAIL FROM:me@domain.local> Can anyone please help?     - blank emails after import I imported the EDB from my old server to a new server using powercontrols.     - Error in Contacts with Exchange 2003 I have noticed some odd behavior with Contacts in Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003, and I would appreciate any information or feedback. We are currently in the process of migrating our 750+ users from a POP3 email system to Exchange 2003. All users are running Outlook 2003 with the latest service packs and updates. We create the Exchange account and make it the default, and all new mail is delivered to the user's Exchange mailbox. We then close the POP3 Personal Folders and import the contents of the user's pst file into the Exchange mailbox. Here's where the problem arises. Suppose a user named Bob, before Exchange, created a Contact with a fellow internal employee's (named Sue) POP3 email address. We came along and migrated Bob to Exchange and imported Bob's Contacts into his Exchange mailbox. Now suppose we opened up the Sue Contact, deleted Sue's POP3 email address, and manually typed her Exchange email address. OR suppose we opened up the Sue Contact, deleted Sue's POP3 email address, and selected Sue's Exchange email address from the Global Address List. Suppose Bob wanted to forward an email to Sue, so he chose Sue's name from his Contacts folder. He clicked Send, but the email remained in his Outbox. In addition, he got a Send/Receive error message that says: "Task 'POP3 Account - Sending' reported error (0x80070057): 'Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid.'" So far, the only way we've found to correct the problem is to completely remove the Sue Contact, select Sue's name in the Global Address List, right-click on it and choose 'Add to Contacts.' We would definitely like all email to be sent from a user's Exchange account. The Send/Receive is only necessary to receive email sent to a user's former POP3 email address. The problem is magnified when the user has created Rules based on their Contacts. If Bob has created a Rule to move all incoming mail from Sue to a specific folder, the Rule will not work until I delete and recreate the Contact as mentioned above. This sounds like an issue related to the way Outlook initially creates Contacts. Does Outlook flag a Contact as containing SMTP, EX, etc address information, and that flag remains even after the contents of the email address has changed?     - Read only mailboxes for public access stations On our corporate network we have many public access stations ("Kiosks") where there's always a specific user logged on, that user has a mailbox on Exchange 2003 which is accessed through Outlook 2003 client. I need to limit that mailbox so that the user will only be able to receive mail but not to send any mail. The only thing I could think of is limiting the outgoing mail size to 0-1 kb or prohibit send with mailbox size over 0-1 kb. Problem with this method is that the user will receive an error message will he'll try to send mail, and what I want to achieve is block entirely the send/reply/forward options for the client.     - Missing DLL MMFMIG.dll I have experienced this problem now on two different servers. One here and one at a clients shop. The installations are both Exchange 2003 SP1, Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Outlook 2003. I suspect that Outlook may have deleted this file, don't know for sure. When starting the Migration Wizard I get the following message: "mailmig.exe - Unable to Locate Component" MMFMIG32.DLL Has anyone else seen this, and how can I get this DLL back in place?     - exchange for intranet only (HELP) Hola, I have a win2k3sp1 dc and a win2k3sp1 w/exchsp1. I can create users in AD from the exch server. However; I can not send or receive any email with the test accounts that I have created. More specifically, I create an email, send to another test account and nothing. The mail is sent; however, when I open outlook with another test account I receive nothing. I have no errors when sending or receiving.     - Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 I am replacing a Windows 2000 server running Exchange 2000 with a new Windows 2003 server running Exchange 2003. I want to move both the public store and the mail boxes to the new Exchange server and kill the Exchange 2000 box. Can someone or someones give me some tips or point me to an article that will help me do this. I know how to go into each user and go to exchange tasks and move the mailbox, but I think there is an easier way that lets me move multiple boxes and doesn't require that I go to each client and change the exchange server in its outlook properties.     - Converting from I have 1st class email server and have moved to Exchange 2003. Is there an easy way to convert the mail in 1st class to exchange. The mailboxes are the same names.     - RPC over HTTP Issues - Front-End/Back-End (GG) Server Configuration Hi, I am hoping that someone will be able to assist me with a setup issue which I am having with the setup of RPC over HTTP in a Front-End/Back-End (Global Catalog) server configuration. I have the following setup in place: All servers are running Windows Server 2003 SP1 and I have Exchange Server 2003 SP1 installed on both the Front-End server and the Back-End server. I have deployed an Ent CA on the first domain controller, which is also a global catalog server. I have got it to the point that when I attempt to logon to my mailbox, the IMAP profile is able to contact the remote domain, as I get prompted to enter a username and password - this I do, Outlook is then able to resolve the servername and the mailbox name, as both are underlined but I then get informed that the folders can not be open and Outlook then exits. I have ensured that the correct TCP and UDP ports are open on the firewall which sits in-front of the Exchange servers. Is there something that I am missing? I look forward to your replies.     - Cannot Create Mailbox Pls Help! I migrated the NT Domain to AD Domain and currently having a Exchange 2003 coexistence with Exchange5.5 environment. Everything work fine with the migration process. I add a new user in the AD by using Active Directory Users and Computers, I can create the user account and create the Exchange mailbox with no error occur. By look at the user account properties, under the exchange properties, i can see the mailbox store path which is linking to my Exchange 2003 server. However, Under the Exchange Manager, I cannot see the user's mailbox in the mailbox store. And also, I cannot connect to the mailbox by using outlook in the client computer. On the other hand, I can access the other users account (which mirgated from NT Domain and have moved mailbox from 5.5 to 2003) on the Exchange 2003 mailbox store with no problem.     - ADMT ADClean When using ADMT and ADClean, exactly what process changes the NT Primary Account on the 5.5 mailbox to the new AD account from the old NT4 account? And where does the ADMT Exchange Directory Wizard fit? I think I missed a step or something. When I migrated a test user with ADMT (keeping the source account intact) then merged the user's new AD account with his ADC disabled account using ADClean, the 5.5 mailbox never updated the Primary NT Account with the new AD account. No errors on ADMT or ADClean. I tried ADC "Replicate Now" on the connection agreement, and then even tried stopping/restarting the 5.5 directory service. The mailbox still shows the old NT account. The user cannot log in to his 5.5 mailbox using the new AD account. (He can still use his old NT4 account but that defeats the purpose) Looking for some help on this, I just found an article that says you can use the ADMT Exchange Directory Wizard to change the Primary NT Account after migrating all users (apparently there's no abillity to run on a per-user basis?). But nothing I read on using ADMT and ADClean mentions the ADMT Exchange Wizard, and I was under impression ADClean followed by next ADC replication cycle changed NT Primary Account info on 5.5 mailbox in NT domain. Can I manually change the setting (using 5.5 Admin program on 5.5 server) to new AD account, so the users can access their 5.5 mailbox using their new AD account?     - Migration Wizard error I migrated 5 users using the migration wizard without any problems. When I started with the 6th user it only moved the inbox mail. The migration wizard does not give an error message but the event log shows that "gw5mig.exe version 6.5.69440 fault module unknown, version 0.0.0.0 fault address 0x0000000". I have tried to migrate several more mailboxes and it still only moves the inbox. I am running Groupwise 6.0.2 on the novell server, Exchange 2003 on Server 2003. thanks in advance.     - Migration between two forests I currently have two active directory forests, each seperate and distinct. One runs solely to server an exchange 2000 server, the second is a windows 2003 domain in a seperate forest. I am trying to migrate the users from the exchange 2000 server to the new 2003 domain in the new forest. I am using exmerge to migrate user mail between the two sites, but I have two problems: 1) Folder permissions do not copy 2) When a user opens outlook 2003 they are prompted that exchange is in recovery mode and I have to go through the process of resetting the .ost file.     - Decomission a site AFTER last ex5.5 server has been removed I screwed up and removed the last ex5.5 server in a site before decomissioning the site that had all it's email moved to a central E2K3 SP1 server in a different site.     - DSScopeScan won't connect to Exchange 5.5 I just getting ready to do a migration from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 and while running the deployment tool I get an error when running the 'DSScopeScan' tool. The error message in the 'ExDeply.log' comes right after the parameters are ran and is: - Error: Could not connect to the Exchange 5.5 server 'Name'. Tools that require an Exchange 5.5 server will not run. I have tried to connect by either name, FQDN and IP with no luck.     - OWA loading messsage I have a W2K server running Exchange 2003. Out of the blue the content frame in OWA will not display any of the inbox contents only the word Loading... This only happens in IE. Mozilla based browsers work fine. I have gone through all of the KB articles I could find regarding this issue to no avail. We migrated from 5.5 to 2003 the only real question we have it that the recipient policy was renamed so it would not match the system name. now the only way to receive mail is to set up relaying so mail will not bounce back. the question i have is can exchange 2003 be named the same as a system name?     - Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 migration. I am doing Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 migration. Here are the configurations: 1. Exchange 5.5 SP4 runing on Windows 2000 SP4. 2. First Exchange 2003 SP1 server, which is runing ADC and SRS joined to Exchange 5.5 orginization. 3. Second Exchange 2003 SP1 server as mailbox storage server joined to Exchange 5.5 orignization afterwards. Population of NT 4.0 to AD and ADC are all working fine. Moved mailbox to the first exchange 2003 (master), all the incoming/outgoing and internal/external communciation are all OK. When I move mailboxes to the second exchange server. Exch 5.5 client can send email to exch 2003 client without a problem and external incoming/outgoing email work fine as well. But when I am trying to send emails to an exchange 5.5 client, from an exchange 2003 client. turned on email tracking on exch 2000 box, and get the following "message rerouted to site connector <domain> (orginally unknown). It's getting sent to the right NT4.0 domain (so it seems), but the exch 5.5 client never sees the email. I checked the queue on the Exch 2003 side, all of them are stuck in the X.400 Exchange MTA outgoing queue. The queue state is showing as retry instead of ready.     - Hosted Exchange Hosted Exchange: Hello all and I would like to start this off by saying thank you for your time. I am looking to start up a hosted email service using exchange server. What I am trying to understand is this. How do I configure exchange to host multiple domain accounts for my hosted users? What I first though of doing was to register a domain and start an email service. Then it downed on me that I can offer domain email hosting for small companies that do not current have email hosting that would be more professional and organized, and best of all web based. (I'll get into the IMAP and POP hosting later). So what I am looking for is a document that details the step by step in configuring Exchange to host multiple domains. Also I attempted to do this and it seemed to work in my test run but one thing I noticed is that in the address book members from domainA could see users from domainB, this opens up some issue in privacy person someone can tell me what I did wrong .     - NT4.0 XP Pro SP2 Outlook 97 SR2 creates personal folder in Windows Hi, I just joined 2 new machines I buiilt to a NT 4.0 for Business domain. The machines are running XP Pro SP2 and all updates. They join ok. When I install Outlook 97 with SR2 it installs ok and loads the e-mail into the personal folders inbox. Then when I connect to the server as user it updates all the other information like contacts to the first set of folders. so I have 2 sets of folders. Is this normal or do I install differently. What I did. Connect to domain as admin OK Cconnect as user OK Pull Office off the server OK Apply updates to SR2 OK When I get to the individual user is when it gets messed up. It does not let me pull office off the server as user only as admin. I am in the process of upgrading to exchange 2003. I ran exchange forestprep, exchange domainprep and installed the exchange ADC. I then installed the exchange 2003 server by joining my existing exchange 5.5 site. Once completed, I went into in the exchange system manager and drill down to the mailboxes in the 5.5 server. I need your help, please advise. Background: I have an Exchange 5.5 with SP4 running on Windows 2000 member server of a domain called texas.us.mydomain.com. Users are located in this "texas" domain and everything in this domain works fine, no known problems. The Exchange server's organization name is "org", the site name is "site". There is an ADC between Windows 2000 and Exchange 5.5, this ADC is installed very recently as part of the Exchange 2003 installation. I installed a new Exchange 2003 Enterprise server on Windows 2003 server which is a member of parent domain called us.mydomain.com. The FQDN name of the Exchange if mail.us.mydomain.com. Everything is working on this domain as well as the users of us.mydomain.com can sent and receive email. Also, I have created some mailboxes on the new Exchange "mail" for the users of users of texas.us.mydomain.com. Everything is fine, at least I don't see any problems so far except when migrating the mailboxes from Exchange 5.5 to 2003. Problem: Using Exchange Migration Wizard, I cannot just move the mailboxes, when I do, I get "Migration Failed" error message in the event log. I run the Connection Agreement Wizard found in the ADC and it gives me an error indicating that my organization name of Exchange 5.5 doesn't match the organization of Exchange 2003. Questions: 1) Does this mean, I will have to change the organization name of Exchane 5.5 to match the Organization of 2003?     - Exchange setup incoming email not going to client I am running Exchange as part of Windows SBS server. The internal email works correctly. Users can send email out through the server, the return mail is added to the users mailbox ( checked using server manager ) but when the user logs on he only receives the internal emails.     - Exch setup recommendations Hello, I would like some thoughts on the best way to arrange an Exchange install using the given hardware. I know the following disk arrangement is not ideal for optimal performance, but this is the hand I've been dealt and it's not going to be changed. We only have about 50 users, but e-mail usage is pretty intense. I have 3 SATA Raptor drives that will be in a Raid 5 array, as well as 2 IDE drives that will be software mirrored. Is it best to put the OS and log files on the software mirrored drives, and the exchange databases on the Raid 5? What about the exch application and the page file? I wish I had a better setup to work with, but I want to make the most of what I have. It is possible I guess that I might get a hold of a 3rd set of drives (SATA, RAID1). If this were to happen, what would be best? The IDE drives are what I'm most concerned about, what piece will suffer least by being on this software mirror? Thanks! Background We have two exchange servers, the first of which was installed on Windows2000 with Exchange 2000, we have subsequently added another server on a Windows 2003 server running Exchange 2003, but leaving the active directory on windows 2000. The problem probably occurred (about 3 month ago) when I was testing how to create an exchange 2000 server on a child domain. I created the child domain and installed exchange without any errors but could not mount a mailbox store. I trawled through the Microsoft knowledge base could not find a resolution to my problem ( I ran most of the diagnostics tools netdiag etc but could still find no clue as to why it was not working). I removed the exhange server manually as it would not let me uninstall and removed the record from active directory using the exchange system manager and right clicking and deleting it. ADSI EDIT shows that it seems to have been removed correctly. I was trying the test again this time creating an exchange 2000 server on the same domain but on a different site when I realised that I could not mount a store on either of our main Exchange servers. I have since removed the second test exchange server so I am left with my two original servers as described above. Tag: Organization wide rule Tag: 133186

I know I can set up a rule for each user individually, but is there a way, I
can apply one rule to all mailboxes,
I want to send a copy of all mail either to or from an address in one
domain, to a public folder in our organization.
