Exchange 2000 in Active Directory 2003 environment
We have AD 2003 running and NT4 with exchange 5.5 server which we have to replace. I am doing a Migration to Exchange 2000 on a new server as we cannot install Exchange 2003 due to other software products not being exchange 2003 ready. I had already run ADC & setup connection agreements & run forest & Domain prep for 2003 had to do /removeorg per microsoft recommendation and then run forestprep & domainprep for 2000. Left the ADC in place as Microsoft told me this was OK and should work. Mailboxes still talk OK and all looks OK. However how do I tell if Forest prep worked OK as it has to be run on Domain controller I had to run it on the Windows 2003 server this is the only DC we have

ADC Replication. Should it take this long????
We are trying to go from 5.5 to E2K3 and have done all of the forrest prep
domain prep stuff and are working trying to get the ADC replicated. It has
now been 2.5 days and it still says replicating. Is this normal? Our
network is not that large. 3 domain controllers, 1 5.5 box and one new
2003 box that will be our Exchange if we ever get it replicated. We have
only about 225 users and a 3.0 gig priv.edb. Tag: NNTP News setup on Exchange 2003 Tag: 116549
changing server?
Hi
At current I have a win2k3 server running on a high end p4 3.0ghz, basically
really reliable and fast. It currently is both a domain controller and
webserver.
I do not have much money to buy another computer, but I have exchange server
and I want to install it on the domain controller. When I have more money
and buy a seporate server, would I be able to easily move exchange to the
other server? Would it fully uninstall easily and is it easy to do?

Exchange 2000 to 2003 migration in SBS environment throws errors
In migrating from Exchange 2000 to 2003 in an SBS implementation, we're
seeing event ID's 13006 and 13008 but can't locate any KB's on the
situation.
Exchange seems to have built boxes but it doesn't appear that all of the
data is there ... the contents are much smaller.
Should we go back and manually build the boxes and ExMerge the data in?
Thoughts, please and thanks!

Issues to resolve before moving mailboxes and public folders to Exchange 2003 from 5.5
Here I am just finished installing Exchange 2003 using deployment tool.
Please help me with the following issues before I move everything to 2003.
1. Mailbox management in ESM:
In 2003 ESM, I cannot view/edit properties of any object, including a test
mailbox I moved from teh Exchange 5.5. However, when I create an Outlook
profile using this test mailbox, it works fine. The question is how to
manage mailboxes without being able to access their properties?
2. IF I move all mailboxes to the 2003 server, how can I change the server
name in user Outlook profile en mass instead of going to each desktop to do
it?
3. After moving systems and public folders to Exchange 2003, can I leave
them on the 5.5 server (because there will be mailboxes still on 5.5 server
that need to access these folder)? How can I make sure that they can be
replicated immediatelt so that mailboxes from both servers can see the most
current items?
4. Can I move mailboxes from Exchange 2003 back to Exchange 5.5 ?
Your input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Spammers die!
I seem to be having a rather perplexing problem here.. starting this
morning, some spammers seem to be using my exchange 2003 server for open
relay.. fortunately the quantity is rather small, but still..
However, I have checked all the settings many times, everything seems to be
set right to prevent open relay, and the server passes open relay testing
from such places as abuse.net!
I can't figure out how these dirtbags are relaying. Everything looks set
right, and I pass all the relay tests. I have followed suggestions from
Q324958 and it does not appear to be an authenticated relay going on either.
I would REALLY appreciate ANY suggestions!

ex 5.5 to 2003 migration - servers not talking!!
Have been migrating from ex 5.5 to ex 2003

ex 2003 member on w2003 a
ADC worke
Ex 2003 to Existing 5.5 install finally worke
Now here is what happened..
I can see both servers in Ex 2003 sys mgr, but everything is grey/clear
I cannot see both servers in ex 5.5 sys mgr
I moved my mailbox, no problem, shows up in ex 5.5 sys mgr as having home server of new mail server
I can send email to myself, but not to outside and to no one on the ex 5.5 server
How can I get these two boxes to talk to each other and use the 5.5 server till everyone is moved over? As much detail as possible would be appreciated, this is my first migration of this type

Re: Exchange 2003!
Ooops, forgot to mention:
Also, I am migrating some clients e-mails (as a result of a company merger)
who were on a pop based system (6 using outlook and 1 Eudora) to our
exchange box. They, of course, want to keep all their history. They are
coming from a totally different company/domain. If I import their e-mails
into the new mailboxes, would that cause a problem.
I will eventually set them up on outlook, which can sync remotely thru RPC
(VPN and/or HTTP), as mentioned below.
Thanks,

Exchange 2003!
Hello,
We are using Exchange 2003 in our environment. I am fairly new to this
product and needed some help:
I am running OWA (using https) on this box. I also want to configure RPC
over VPN (I know I need to set-up VPN on this box, or can I even do it on a
member server which is on the same domain, but not running Active Directory)
and RPC over HTTP (this has limitations as it will only serve clients with
XP pro and O2003)
I have searched MS -KB and found a lot of articles on RPC over HTTP, but not
much luck on RPC over VPN. Also, I am a bit paranoid. As, this is the only
server (domain controller also) in our environment and also live. So, I
don't want to break anything. Last week, I accidentally messed up something
(screwed up SMTP on IIS) and after spending 7+ hours with MS tech support,
finally fixed it.
Anyway, all you help would be greatly appreciated.
You may also reply to "recursive AT nas DOT net" - replace CAPS with
appropriate symbols

Problem with public folder after upgrate to Exchange 2K3
Hi All,
After migrate to Exchange 2003 I can't open any document (Word, Excel)
posted directly (ex: Word -> File -> Send to -> Exchange Folder) in a
public folder. Works fine with a regular MAPI client (2000, Xp, 2003). Also
if I attach the document in a regular post I can open normally.
I received the following message: "You are not authorized to view this page"
"HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden".
I verified all permissions and compared with the old Exchange 2000 server
but nothing.
Anybody have an idea?

Dist lists and Groups won't show up for permissions?
Dist lists and Groups won't show up for permissions?
Just migrated from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. Went
to set up permissions on a mailbox to share out a
calendar. When you go in to select a group to assign
permissions it only sees the Dist List that was there
before the migration and we get an error when we try to
pick it. As a troubleshoot, I tried creating a new dist
lists, local security groups, global security groups,
basically every group/dist list option available in
Active Directory. None of these groups will show up for
the User in Outlook to select for permissions purposes.
Any ideas? Mail seems fine.

Exchange 2003 Ent. on sbs2000 domain
We have a sbs2K server and domain used by company A and company B for
file sharing.
We (company A) have been using Exchange 2k on the sbs server for a
year or so fine. Company B wanted their own file and exchange server
so have bought exchange 2003 Enterprise Edition and a new shiny
Windows 2003 Standard Server to put it on.
I have configured the new 2003 server without a problem and joined it
to the domain as a member server. Users logging on to the domain can
access shares on the new server without a problem.
I then tried to install Exchange 2003 (following the Deployment Tools
guide). I read somewhere to run the ForestPrep and DomainPrep on the
sbs server rather than the new server because it is the DC. I done
this (successfully i think - it ran without error) and then began to
install Exchange Server on the new 2003 box.
I get to the Component selection window and when I select "typical"
from the drop down for "Microsoft Exchange" i get a windows warning
saying "The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration
Services" cannot be assigned the action "Install" because: - You
either do not have permissions to complete this operation or Active
Directory has not replicated all the necessary permissions for the
deleted items container. Please check that you have sufficient
permissions to modify Exchange Components and that replication is
complete before running setup.
I am logged in with a Domain account which has Domain Admin, Domain
User, Enterprise Admins, Exchange Domain Servers, Exchange Enterprise
Servers, Schema Admins rights and Local admin rights. Although
noticebly it does not have Full Exchange Administrator rights which is
not available to add to it.
Anybody know why the ForrestPrep and DomainPrep runs aren't giving me
this option? or in general what i am doing wrong? can this be done at
all? Help!
Sorry for the lengthy post.

Hi
I have recently installed the first Exchange 2003 server
into an Exchange 5.5 environment. The ADC seems to be
working correctly and all attributes seem fine when viewed
via ADSI.
However when using an Outlook client the Global Address
List is empty. Also on the server the Offline Address Book
fails to create with Event warning 951, stating that the
GAL is empty therefore no OAB will be created. However if
I use the preview button within the settings of
the 'Default Global Address List' in System Manager it
correctly displays all mailboxes and DLs. The recipient
update service also seems to be working OK. I can move
mailboxes and everything else seems fine.
I am confused and stuck, please help!

Migrate from 2 Exchange 5.5 Sites to 1 Exchange 2003 Srv
Hello All
Wer're currently in the process of upgrading our TWO NT4 domains/TWO Exchange 5.5 Srv to ONE AD 2003/ONE Exchange 2003 Srv architecture
Current Setup
- one pdc, one bdc for the first domai
- one pdc, one bdc for the second domai
- Exchange Srv 1 is in the first domai
- Exchange Srv 2 is in the second domai
- the tow Exchange Srv are in the same org but in to different site
Final Choosen Setup
- two dc in the final A
- one Exchange 2003 server in the new AD and in the same old or
Migration path for the two NT4 domain should be Ok (using ADMT and scripts)
But we've some questions about how to migrate our two Exchange 5.5 server into the Exchange 2003 srv
If we had only one Exchange 5.5, the migration should be quite easy as the the new server will be in the same org: we can put the 2003 in the same site that the old 5.5 and use the deployement tools (netdiag, dcdiag, domainprep, forestprep, ADC, Exchange 2003, move mailboxes, pfmigrate) MS documentation
But how to handle the case of the two server in two sites (but same org)
Should we first consolidate our two 5.5 into one (and if so, how ?), and then migrate to 2003
Or is it possible to migrate one 5.5 srv to the 2003 (the one in the same site), then the second (and if so how, as the second server will be in a different site that the new 2003)
It seems that with Exchange 2003 sp1 it is now possible to move mailboxes from one 5.5 in a different site... but we're not sure
And what about the public folders..
Thank your for your help Tag: NNTP News setup on Exchange 2003 Tag: 116462
Exchange 2003 Install Gone Bad-Lost Connection to 5.5 Server
Exchange install was going smooth (should have known something bad was going to happen). All the prep steps went fine, got ADC installed, all good, connection agreements set and verified. Started exchange 2003 install. System kept erroringout when it tried to replicate.
Checked DNSissues did not dind any problems, tried checking the LDAP connection by running ldp (this is were I messed up) but ldp program crashed when I tried binding to the 5.5 server.
Now I am getting MSADC errors of:
LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory NTSERVER for distinguished name 'FARIA\Administrator'. Directory returned error:[0x51] Server Down. (Connection Agreement 'Users: fariaservers.uncasville.com - FARIA\Thomas G. Faria Corp' #3112)

I have un-installed exchange 2003. Any ideas on how to either fix the currrent connection agreements or delete them and start over?

Migrating users from seperate organisation

I am unable to install IM services on an existing Exchange 2000 SP3
installation. There are no disk space issues, nor is there a problem
with the media. Any ideas?

clean install of win 2003 & exch 2003
Hi
I just had some problems with my server, so my disks are all destroyed.
So, I`ve installed win 2003 server enterprise and exchange 2003.
Everything goes smooth but i cant get the mail to work.
Even when i go into AD and add a user, i cant get the folder where i shall
insert the mail specs either.
It must be something i`ve forgot.
Also when i go into system manager and rightclick on the upper line, and
chose internet mail wizard, that is not working either.
Could someone please help me?
Or if someone knows of any good sites\guides to install exch. 2003 properly.
thanks
regards

Multiple Exchange server name in single server.
Hi I am having windows 2003 server and i am having
Exchange 2003 enterprises edition.
I need to try one option.
I have a exchange domain called mrv.local, and i want to
have multiple domain in a same exchange server eg
test.local,test1.local etc, in the same exchange server
will it be possible for me.
My aim is to have multiple people log on to VPN and acess
their own domain, how can i.
Eg if suppose i log on to the server and i acess exchange
as mrv.local, if some guy say test logs on he need to
acess the test.local, but i want mrv.local and test.local
in the same exchange server will it be possible?

I would like to setup newsgroups for use by our internal
staff only; like a news intanet.
I would like to point you to below KB article which would be a good
starting point.
There are two parts of this document the first part contains link for the
second part .
