We have 2 exchange servers withing the same domain "Server A and Server B"
Both are dc's. Server B was just added. The problem i have is webmail. Server
A works fine, Server B resolves internal and allows me to connect but
external it drops after I login and trys to resolve Server B. There are about
500 cleints on A and just myself on B right now. Thank You

Hi,

You need a front-end server for this to work.

Externally are you trying to access mailbox on Server B by going to Server
A's URL?

Can I just take my server A and make it the front end server?

Hi,

Server A can be a front-end server when all user mailboxes have been moved
to the new server if it is Exchange 2003 standard or enterprise edition or
exchange 2000 enterprise edition.

That won't work, because Server A does not host the mailbox it forwards the
request to Server B.
Your external DNS cannot resolve Server B's name, nor does your firewall
permit traffic to it from outside.

Resolution:
1) Install a Front-End server to have a single namespace/URL to access, OR -
2) Publish your second server by inserting a NAT rule in your firewall to
map the internal IP address of Server B to a public/external IP, opening the
required port(s) to it (80/443.. or whatever protocol you want to allow),
and inserting an A record in your external DNS to map the server's fqdn to
the external IP.

was hoping to usee only one url and also no money for another server...darn
budgets. Server A is to house about 400 mailboxes. about 100 of the current
500 will be moved to server b

The good news - if you can call it that - is with Exchange Server 2003 the
Std. Ed. can act as a FE.

Both Servers A and B are exchange 2003. So can I enable a as a front end
server even though it currently has mailboxes on it
