I am trying to migrate Exchange 2000 to Exchanger 2003 using the new
hardware. I have followed all the steps in this article.
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Migrating-Exchange2000-Exchange-2003-Hardware.html

I received the following error message when I tried installing Exchange
Server 2003 on a separate server:

The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services"
cannot be assigned the action "Install" because:
-You do not have sufficient permission in the domain. A domain Administrator
must either re-run "setup /DomainPrep" or create a Recipient Update Service
for this domain.

The account I am installing Exchange Server 2003 is the part of Local,
Domain, Enterprise, and Schema Admins.

In my forest, I have One Windows 2000 PDC, One Windows Server 2003
additional domain controller upgraded from Windows Server 2000 domain
controller.

I ran adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep when I upgraded my Windows
Server 2000 additional domain controller to Windows Server 2003 additional
domain controller.

I ran "setup /ForestPrep" on my Windows 2000 PDC from Exchange Server 2003
ENT CD. The outcome was successful.

I also ran "setup /DomainPrep" on my Windows Server 2000 PDC from Exchange
Server 2003 ENT CD. The outcome was successful.

Does anyone have a clue why did I get this error?
How can I check if "setup /ForestPrep" and "Setup /DomainPrep" from Exchange
Server 2003 succeeded successfully on Windows Server 2000 PDC.

Do I need to re-run "setup /DomainPrep" on my Windows 2000 Server PDC?

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Hasher

Thanks for the article.

I have verified using Windows 2000 ADSI Edit tool that I have the following
information:

I do have the following value: 6870 at cn=ms-Exch-Schema-Version-Pt object
which indicates that "Set /Forestprep" has been successfully by Exchange 2003.

I do have the following value: 6903 at CN=Exchange-Orginization_name object
version. Which indicates that the "Setup /ForestPrep" command has ran.

I do have the following value: 6936 at CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects
which indicates that the "setup /DomainPrep" command has ran.

I also re-ran "Setup /DomainPrep" on my Windows 2000 PDC. I am not any
errors, and I hope my installation will go smoothly.

Thanks for your help.
