Hello folks

I have a strange problem. We are using Win2K3Ent and Exch2k3Ent, with the
latest service packs and hotfixes installed (that I know of).

I am trying to create a mail-enabled user (internal user on the GAL which
actually forwards to an SMTP email address externally). I am under the
impression that once created, this user should appear for all clients in the
GAL (this seems to be confirmed by 70-284 text). I create the mail-enabled
user in Exchange Tasks, establish an email address without incident.

But no matter what I try, the user will not appear in the GAL. If I do a
query in ExchSysMgr under the GAL, the user is displayed. However, if I run
a MAPI client such as Outlook2K3, and view the GAL, the user is not
displayed. However, the user *IS* displayed under the All Users folder of
the GAL within my OL client. I have manually rebuilt the GAL using RUS, yet
the user does not appear. I have even waited 48 hours for the user to
update and it hasn't.

Has anyone seen this symptom before, or am I missing something at a
fundamental level?

Regards
Alistair

First use steps 1,3 and 4 of the following article
to verify that the recipient update service is stamping the proper
attributes.

297801 Troubleshooting Check Name Errors
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=297801

If none of the attributes mentioned are present take a look at

288807 Troubleshooting the Recipient Update Service
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=288807

The main attribute you are concerned with is the showinaddressbook. If this
is the only attribute that the users don't have, this can happen if one or
more of the address lists has the string (proxyAddresses=*)
in its filter rules. If thats the case use can use adsiedit to edit the
purportedSearch attribute of the address list to remove it. That should
give you a start

Thanks for your assistance, I'd already come across 288807 last night, but
I'll also check 297801, and give it a go. Thanks for the advice once again!

Hello,

> and give it a go.

is the mailbox shown up in the Mailbox Store already ?
You have to send the MBX anmail before it became initialized.

Perhaps this is the missing point ?
Send the User an E-Mail and search the GAL again, MBX should be created
then.

Greetings
Roger
