2 mirrored exchange servers
I am currently running an AD windows 2000 domain. with exchange
server.
for redundancy and for OWA I would like to setup a remote exchange
2003 server in a data center that is basically a mirror or the
exchange server i have on the LAN.
Please could anyone point me to any documentation that references how
to synchonize 2 exchange servers so that the accounts and mail are
identical on both boxes.
Any help appreciated.... Thanks. Tag: Inter-organisation contact transfer Tag: 125105

How to repair OWA 2003
Hi there!
I've got a problem it getting OWA up and running on my
frontend-servers.
I think the problem is a combination of the following:
1.) I installed the w2k03-Servers via Altiris and after that renamed
the servers. As a result the "IWAM_" and "IUSR_" Accounts that are
used by IIS had the wrong name.
2.) I installed Exchange2003 without checking the IIS and the
User-Account first (my fault).
3.) I deinstalled IIS and reinstalled IIS. After searching through
some Newsgroups and looked at some other servers I managed to get the
OWA-Virtual-Dirs up and running again.
Something is still wrong, because I get an 404-Error when i access
http://servername/exchange
In the IIS-Logfile there is a 401.2-Error-Code mentioned each time i
would like to access the site.
Could anybody help me I can't reinstall those frontend-Servers!!!
Sincerely,

Throttling Exchange 2003 bandwidth use for sending outbound emails
We have a MS Exchange 2003 Enterprise server and we use a DSL for our
internet connection. Our DSL speed is 1.5 Mbps down and 384 kbps up. We have
been having problems with our internet connection being down when someone
from our company sends large emails. They larger the emails, the longer our
internet connection is down. Is there any way to set Exchange 2003 to limit
the bandwidth that it uses at certain speed? If not, any other suggestions
would really be appreciated.

Mail-Enabled User Not Appearing on GAL
Hello folks
I have a strange problem. We are using Win2K3Ent and Exch2k3Ent, with the
latest service packs and hotfixes installed (that I know of).
I am trying to create a mail-enabled user (internal user on the GAL which
actually forwards to an SMTP email address externally). I am under the
impression that once created, this user should appear for all clients in the
GAL (this seems to be confirmed by 70-284 text). I create the mail-enabled
user in Exchange Tasks, establish an email address without incident.
But no matter what I try, the user will not appear in the GAL. If I do a
query in ExchSysMgr under the GAL, the user is displayed. However, if I run
a MAPI client such as Outlook2K3, and view the GAL, the user is not
displayed. However, the user *IS* displayed under the All Users folder of
the GAL within my OL client. I have manually rebuilt the GAL using RUS, yet
the user does not appear. I have even waited 48 hours for the user to
update and it hasn't.
Has anyone seen this symptom before, or am I missing something at a
fundamental level?
Regards
Alistair

Co-Exist of Lotus and Exchange server question.
Hi all,
Currently, We are using lotus domino R6.02 on Win2K server and plan to
switch over to Exchang2003 on Win2003 server (another server).
During this migration phase, how can i have all mails send to both lotus and
ex2003 server for a period of time? So that my users can access either Inotes
or OWA in the testing phase. How do i import the user accounts and their
current mails in Lotus to ex2003? Please show steps.
My goal is to have both lotus and ex2003 up and serve users for like 1 or 2
months instead of switch at once. This is to let my users to get use to OWA.
I will have them all use OWA, since they are using Inotes now.
Question aside, Does 2003 lotus connector work with Lotus 6.0.3 only?

E2K3-Upgrade hardware/OS
I am planning on upgrading my E2K3 server to W2K3 as well as upgrade my
hardware. NOTE: I will be making the OS a DC/GC as well.
What is the recommended method for doing this?
I was thinking since the versoin of Exchange will be the exact same that I
SHOULD be able to disabel all AV, do a full backup of the IS (using Veritas),
build the new box to the same patch level as a member of the domain and then
simply restore the IS. NOTE: I do NOT want to restore the system state as
the OS will be different AND it will be a DC.
Is it this easy or am I missing something?
Thanks,

Retaining IMC and mailbox server split when migrating from 5.5 to 2003
Hello
We're about to upgrade from nt4/exchange 5.5 to Windows and Exchange 2003.
Presently, we have a couple of mailbox servers, but we'll probably add
another one as part of the migration. Our Exchange 5.5 IMC runs on a system
that hosts no mailboxes, but is part of the site. If we want to maintain
this separation, do we need to configure one of the Exchange 2003 servers as
"front-end" ?

upgrading servers
Hello,
i have the following scenario.
I came upon this client after other IT people were fired, and this
whole setup seems to have been set up very inneficiently from the start.
My client is running 2 servers. First server is running windows server
2003 standard, and the second server is running small business server
2000, which includes exchange. Not only are these two systems not
completely compatible, but to make matters worse, the domain name of the
server does not match the domain name of the company website. (i find it
easier for exchange if both match)
What i would like to do, is configure the 2003 server to the correct
domain, and upgrade the 2000 server to also be a 2003 server without
losing the exchange information.
Anyone have any recommendations as to how i could go about it, and the
best way to migrate the exchange information from the 2000 server to the
2003 server where i plan to install exchange 2003 standard.
Thanks

Exchange 5.5 restore to test server in the lab
Hi, we are planing to migrate Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003, currently
we use Backup Exec 8.5 Exchange agent to backup the IS, DS and
individual mail box.
1)A lab will setup to simulate the migration, just wondering how we
could retore the live Exchange 5.5 system and its mail boxes into the
test server under the lab environment using a different model
(hardware) of the server.
2)In worse case, since there are only lower than 100 mail boxes, we
also prepare to export/import each individual mail boxes into the new
server if anything goes wrong during the migration. How could we
export the Exchange 5.5 mail boxes to *.pst and import them into
either the Exchange 5.5 in the lab or the new Exchange 2003?

So far so good, got through the basic migration. Just can't seem to finish

Also, do I need to redirect my inbound mail at the firewall to the new

OWA - SSL exchange 2003
I am trying to Setup OWA to use SSL, I am using the following from 2003
Exchange Server deployment guide chapter 8. I have installed certificate
server and created and install my own certificate. After doing below steps,
I receive message from browser that
Cannot find server - The page cannot be dislpayed - check network settigs
I think I am missing something but I am not sure.
To set up SSL on a server
1. In IIS Manager, expand the local computer, and then expand the Web
Sites folder. Right-click the Web site or file that you want to protect with
SSL, and then click Properties.
2. Under Web site identification, click Advanced.
3. In the Advanced Web site identification box, under Multiple
identities for this Web site, verify that the Web site IP address is
assigned to port 443 (the default port for secure communications), and then
click OK. Optionally, to configure more SSL ports for this Web site, click
Add under Multiple identities of this Web site, and then click OK.
4. On the Directory Security tab, under Secure communications, click
Edit.
5. In the Secure Communications box, select the Require secure
channel (SSL) check box.
If you require 128-bit key encryption, your users must use Web browsers that
support 128-bit encryption. For information about upgrading to 128-bit
encryption capability, see the Microsoft Product Support Services Web site
(http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=14898).
I have allso tried this
Enabling SSL for the Default Web Site
After you obtain an SSL certificate to use either with your Exchange
front-end server on the default Web site or on the site where you host the
\RPC, \OMA, \Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync, \Exchange, \Exchweb, and \Public
virtual directories, you can enable the default Web site to require SSL.
Note
The \Exchange, \Exchweb, \Public, \OMA, and \Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
virtual directories are installed by default on any Exchange 2003
installation. The \RPC virtual directory for RPC over HTTP communication is
installed manually when you configure Exchange to support RPC over HTTP. For
information about how to set up Exchange to use RPC over HTTP, see
"Configuring RPC over HTTP for Outlook 2003" later in this chapter.
To require SSL
1. In Internet Information Services (IIS), select the Default Web
site or the Web site where you are hosting your Exchange services, and then
click Properties.
2. On the Directory Security tab, in Secure Communications, click
Edit.
3. In Secure Communications, click the Require Secure Channel (SSL)
check box.
After you complete this procedure, all virtual directories on the Exchange
front-end server on the default Web site are configured to use SSL.

Exchange 2003 migration problem - incoming email not routed correc
We're attempting to complete a migration of our email system from Exchange
5.5 on NT4 SP6a to Exchange 2003 SP1 on Win2003 hotfixed via windows update.
The mailboxes have been migrated to the new server using the Exchange
Migration Wizard. We can connect to our new exchange server using Outlook and
IMAP and view the contents of mailboxes.
Mail can be sent via out using the SMTP server and from within Outlook.
Our problem is that incoming emails from the internet are not being
distributed into mailboxes and emails sent internally to internal users do
not reach their destination.
The incoming emails from the internet can be seen in Local Delivery Queue,
with a state of 'Retry'. There is no sign of the internally sent emails.
It may be that the Exchange 2003 server is receiving messages and attempting
to route them through back to our old mail server.
One possible course of action we are considering is to remove the old server
from the organisation. Should this be attempted as a solution to this
problem?
Can the old server be added back into the organisation if necessary?
Any advice to this serious issue gratefully received.

Whoever hosts your public DNS needs to do this. It isn't something you do on
your network or server unless you are hosting your own public DNS, which it
appears you aren't, and you shouldn't be unless you understand all the
requirements and ramifications.
Sounds like you need to talk to your brother.

exchang 5.5's distrubition list to Exchange 2003
Hi, planning to migrate an Exchange 5.5 (NT single domain) to Exchange
2003 in 2003 interim domain). For reasons, we have to keep the new
Exchange 2003 server along with other Windows NT4 in the same domain
for a while. My question is: how to deal with the Exchange 5.5
distrution list? will it going to be Unverisal group? then how
Universal group work in a mix domain mode (or 2003 interim) ?
Thanks in advance,

Migrate from Imail to Exchange - Exchange Migration Tool?
AS part of a migration to SBS2K3, I'll be migrating from Imail to Exchange.
The new DC, per SBS requirements, will be the new email server.
Has anybody tried this with the Exchange Migration Tool? Imail is not one of
the products listed in the EMT description, but then it makes a reference to
migrating IMAP4 and I'm wondering if that will work for a generic server
using IMAP.
I've googled and cannot find anything about migrating from Imail to
Exchange, only the other way. Tag: Inter-organisation contact transfer Tag: 124999
How do setup mailbagging?
I've searched, and tried looking through some books, but so far I am at a
loss as to how I can setup my Exchange 2003 to provide mailbagging for my
other Exchange (2000). These are in completely different networks using
completely different ISPs in different towns.
Can anybody offer some pointers to how to set this up? Both exchanges are
functioning fine accepting mail for seperate domain names. Tag: Inter-organisation contact transfer Tag: 124997
IMAP4
I have Exchange 2003 and am attempting to setup IMAP4 so that we can try
using mobile devices to access email accounts. I have setup the IMAP4
virtual server and opened port 143 on our firewall. We seem to be able to
connect but not authenticating. Just for testing I have turned off SSL and
SASL and am only using Basic Authentication and still we are unable to
authenticate. Is there something I am missing?

Virtual Server config ?
I have two e2k3 servers in a single org, in same routing group responsible
for the same mail domain. Each has the default SMTP virtual server with
default settings. There is no connection to the internet they are on an
isolated LAN.
All messages from users with mailboxes on server1 (the first installed e2k3
server) are delivered fine regardless of the location of the recipients
mailbox.
All messages from a mailbox on server2 (the latest installed e2k3 server)
get NDR with 5.3.5 there is a mail looping error when sent to users whose
mailboxes reside on server1. How do I resolve this?

OWA seeing 2 servers
I have just installed our Exchange 2003 server in a mixed mode domain
running a Ex5.5 server. Is there any way to make the OWA for the E2003K see
the mailboxes on the 5.5 server so that I will not have to have 2 separate
servers running OWA.
thanks

Move Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2000 Enterprise on new server
I am currently running Exchange 2K standard on Windows 2K standard with a
message store at 14gb. I have new hardware, Win 2K Advanced, and Exchange 2K
Enterprise. I need to build a new Exchange server on the new hardware and
move the users to it. What steps do I need to take and what issues might I
expect? When complete, how do I remove the old exchange server?

Exchange 5.5 on Active Directory
I have some questions about Exchange 5.5 running on Active Directory.
We currently have Exchange 5.5 running with multiple sites, on W2K server,
all servers on NT domains. The bulk of our users and servers have already
migrated to our Active Directory domain. We have servers running Exchange
2003.
What I want to do is migrate our Exchange 5.5 servers to AD, but we want 5.5
and Exchange 2003 to coexist. We need all our servers on the AD domain and
off the NT domains, but we don't want to change our 5.5 enviroment or cripple
it. We are not migrating the remaining users to Exchange 2003.
The user accounts have already been migrated to AD using the Quest suite of
migration tools, trusts exist between NT and AD domains.
Can it be done? How? Can the exchange service account be created and swapped
to an acccount on the AD domain? Tag: Inter-organisation contact transfer Tag: 124984
If address not found forward to another server
I have an exchange server handling my mail interoffice only.
the mx record for my domain is located on another mail server with all the
users email addresses.
I need the people in my office to be able to send to the POP users that are
located on the other server. If they are not found interoffice - to send to
another server - how would i set this up?
they are getting unknow user errors. No such user Tag: Inter-organisation contact transfer Tag: 124981
WE recently did an inter-organisation migration from 2003 to 2003. Anyone
know how to move the contacts?
