The E2K3 deployment guide reads the following. The 1st
part says the list of required components and the 2rd
part says install only the needed services.

I don't know why do I get confused, but we just install
the services that we needed only. Is that right?

*******************
Exchange 2003 Setup requires that the following
components and services be installed and enabled on the
server:
. .NET Framework
. ASP.NET
. Internet Information Services (IIS)
. World Wide Web Publishing Service
. Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service
. Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service
********************
Important When you install Exchange on a new server,
only the required services are enabled. For example, Post
Office Protocol version 3 (POP3), Internet Message Access
Protocol version 4 (IMAP4), and NNTP services are
disabled by default on all of your Exchange 2003 servers.
You should enable only services that are essential for
performing Exchange 2003 tasks.

You need to install all the services on the Windows Server, for the
installation.
.NET Framework
ASP.NET
Internet Information Services (IIS)
World Wide Web Publishing Service
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service
Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service

After you install Exchange 2003 if you don't need certian services you
should set the startup type in the Services.msc snap-in to disabled. For
instance if it is a fresh Exchange 2003 install POP3, IMAP, and NNTP will be
set to disabled. This is different then not being installed.
