 - Implementing a new Exchange 2003 Server Hello: I'm in the process of implementing a new Exchange 2003 server to a network that contains Exchange 2000 Servers currently. The MAIN server (the server that port 25 is directed to) will remain untouched. The 2003 server i am speaking of is being implemented at a branch office. After the forestprep/domainprep, I expect to install the 2003 Server as usual. I've read the documentation on moving public folders, etc. My main question is: Once the server is up and running, and Exchange is fully installed, I will be moving the mailboxes. Does Exchange 'know' to route new e-mails to the new server, after I move the mailboxes I want to make sure that the users experience no downtime, with the exception of when their particular mailbox is being moved. From my understanding, I can move the mailboxes, and both Exchange, and the Outlook client are aware of the change automatically. Am I right?  - AD Domain Service Remote Management Tools Any assistance would be appreciated. Getting ready to install my first E2K7 SP1 / Windows 2008 server. In Technet article 691354, E2K7 SP1 prerequisites on W2K8 & WinVista, it says that "it is especially important that AD Domain services remote management tools be installed prior to installing any IIS prerequisites." I do want to install AD Domain Services remote management tools but on the E2K7 SP1 / windows 2008 server.  - Autodiscover Service Hi all. I have a coexistence scenario going on with 1 Exch. 07 and 1 Exch 03. All servers and clients have latest service packs.I have set up a few employees on Exch 07 and now am grappling with Free/Busy issues (fail to see meetings). I read this dissertation on setting up SSL for a mail server, but we already have a 3rd party cert. for OWA. I would like to simply have scheduling info work without the hassle.  - RPC over HTTP single server Hi All, I am trying to get RPC over HTTP to work. I am in a little different situation than what is documented by MS. I have SSL working great, can get to OWA via SSL anywhere, and I also have exchange server pushing email to smartphones. The issue I am having is I have a single Exchange 2003 SP2 server running on a windows 2003 server. It has active directory, but is not a domain controller. DC's are Win 2000svr boxes and so is the Global catalog server. So single backend Exchange server that is not a DC or GC. Is this doable if the single server is NOT a GC? Would I have to edit ports in the registries of the 2000svr GC and the 2003 Exchange svr? MS states that if your BAck-end only server is not also GC, you may have problems.  - Out of office assistant i was checking SSL in IIS. it seems i've changed some settings.  - Restored DB won't load in RSG. Help! Two mailboxes lost important data and I've been working to try to retrieve the information. Once the backup edb and stm files are restored, I run eseutil /cc on the restore.env, but it immediately fails. So, the DB will not load in the RSG. We tried restoring from 3 different dates (all of which had successful backups, and had the data needed), but all with the same results. As a last resort, I went ahead and ran eseutil /p on the restored database and isinteg afterwards. The DB loaded, and I can see all the mailboxes in ESM. But on running Exmerge, it only see's the system mailbox and none of the others that are in there. First of all, can anyone tell me what could possibly be wrong with the backups in the first place? We're restoring from full backups that completed successfully, so I was thinking once restored, I should simply be able to mount the DB and extract what I need. but that's obviously not happening. Secondly, any idea why exmerge isn't seeing all the mailboxes in the recovered db? Suggestions/ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!  - Exchange 2007 Install Error 2147950651 When installing Exchange 2007 sp1 on windows 2008 server the following error occurs. An Error Occurred. The error code was 2147950651. The message was A local error has occurred. I cannot find any reference to the error message at microsoft. The site has Exchange 2003 on Windows 2003 servers and they are in native mode.  - MaxPageSize is set too high Good Evening, I am unsure if this is the correct forum to post this, if it's not, please direct me to the correct location. I used the Microsoft Exchange Best Practice Analyzer - Health Check against our Exchange server and it came back with an error of "MaxPageSize is too high". I tried to use the "ntdsutil" tool to set the MaxPageSize to 1000, but I've run into an error of "DsBindW error 0x6d9(There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper" I ran the ntdsutil tool on the Exchange server and one of our domain controller, but to no avail.  - Unable to remove an old administrative group in Exchange System Ma I'm currently working on a project of moving an organization from Windows/Exchange 2000 to 2003. I need to clean up some 'junk' first. In Exchange system manager, I see two objects that I cannot delete. One is a server under an administrative group that still contains a good server. The second thing is an entire administrative group. There are no objects under it. It is empty, but cannot be removed. In both cases, the objects are visible, but are WHITE. I'm assuming that this indicates that they are defunct in some way. How can I remove these? Is using ADSIEDIT the only option? If so, can someone tell me exactly where to go to delete them?  - Exchange 2007 Storage Groups I am migrating our Exchange 2003 Server to 2007 standard. I am looking for an Exchange 2007 storage groups best practice guide.  - E2K3 / Win2008 Is there a documented procedure for installing Exchange Server 2003 on a 32 bit Windows Server 2008 box? My attempts result in messages that say NNTP, SMTP and IIS plug-ins are not set up but I can't seem to find out how to set those services up in WS2008.  - frontend/backend config question Exchange 2003, frontend - backend server config. Let's call the servers front1 and back1. I thought I could set up our basic Outlook 2003 install to create a mail profile with front1 as the server name and the logged-in user's username as mailbox name, and then the MAPI client would be smart enough to find the mailbox on back1, but it's not doing that. The first attempt fails, and if I manually enter the "back1" as the server name, MAPI finds the mailbox immediately. I know I could create the install with "back1" as the server name, but I'm thinking ahead to whenever I have to migrate to a new server again- it would be nice to not have to change the install. Am I misunderstanding something about front-end/back-end (like, there's no way what I'm doing should ever work)? Or have I likely fouled up something about the front-end/back-end config? On our config we have the SMTP Connector|Local Bridgehead|pointing to old server. Under SMTP Virtual Server, we have the new server pointing to the old server and visa versa.  - Decommission old Exchange 2003 (confirm public folders question) Hi, Couple of months ago we installed exc2007sp1 is addition to an old exchange2003, both co exists fine but now all users are migrated to the new server so we want to completely remove old exch2003. Only thing old exchange2003 is used for now is hosting public folders which we have a bunch of. What are our options, can we uninstall old 2003 server and we still have public folders as we are used to having now?  - ActiveSync issue Hello I have 1 excheange 2003sp2 server ports 80, 443 are open. trying to setup Treo using activesynch 4.5. We do use OWA (forms based auth) with SSL. I believe this is the cause of the issue I am having with not being able to synch. Does anyone have a fix other than stop using ssl and buy a front end server?  - Lost Send-As permissions We were restoring an exchange database, and made a mistake of deleted the users off of users in that database. After re-attaching the mailboxes to users, people using shared mailboxes can now access the mailboxes, but cannot send-as anymore. In checking A/D, the mailbox permissions are still the same.  - E2K3 /domainprep In prep for E2K7 SP1/W2K8, I have run: /preparelegacypermission;/prepareschema;/prepareAD;/preparedomain:xxxxxx for each of our domains. I have an E2K3 server generating Event ID 8270 and 8317. The solution is to run E2K3 /domainprep.  - When to use multiple Storage Groups? As subject really. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890699 explains the best practise how to configure storage groups, but I'm struggling a little to understand when/where you would want to? For example we have a single Exchange 2003 Enterprise server with a single storage group and a single private and public information store, and it's getting full. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124123.aspx is a useful read but it focuses on things like disaster recovery and performance (it makes sense that with dedicated spindles to each storage group/database performance should be higher) but it doesn't make too clear whether you would group users together by area (to try and maximize SIS) or by mailbox size (to put the hogs together) and so on?  - public folders If I would like to install Exchange 2007 and one of the main reasons is to take advantage of public folders for sharing calendars and contact lists, but, it seems microsoft is starting to cripple public folders, what do I do? I don't want to have to set up sharepoing just for this. I would like the shared data to stay on the exchange server. Did I hear correctly that OWA can't see public folders?  - OWA and Outlook anywhere (RPC over HTTPS) external settings I am in the process of upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. I have a FE exchange 2003 server that gives access to OWA, pop3 and imap4 with fqdn mail.domain.com. I already installed the Exchange 2007 servser CAS roll but I have not done the redirection to this server on the firewall yet. I would like to know if I can use mail.domain.com for both my OWA and for Outlook Anywhere or I will need 2 separate certificates, one for each. Thank you for your advise.  - Exchange system management tools Hello weÂ´ve installt Windows Server 2003 64 Bit version. Into the company we had worldwide Exchange 2003 servers on different locations. Now I am looking for a possibility to install Exchange system management tools on the server for mmc addons for active directory users and computers to admin the exchange users. If I try to use Exchange 2003 I get error message: Microsoft Exchange Server has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows. For information refer ... I know that it is not recommended to install Exchange 2003 on a 64 Bit OS. But recommended doesnÂ´t meen not possible. Via Google I found several informations that there is a way to install but nobody describe how I can do that. Is there anybody how can tell me how does it work? Normally I do not need the complete installation of Exchange Server. I only need the system management tools (Properties tabs Exchange General, -Features, -Advanced and E-Mail addresses and tabs Puplished Certificates, Object and Security) . But it seem to be there is no way to install them without general installation procedure of Exchange. I am a little bit afraid to use Exchange 2007 (and I donÂ´t know if we have a licence) because as I wrote we only have Exchange 2003 mail servers.  - Exchange 2007 Outlook Web Access redirect to /exchange We just installed Exchange 2007 and installed a third-party SSL Certificate to secure OWA, ActiveSync, and Outlook Anywhere. In IIS we would like to set the Default Web Site Home Directory to redirect to /exchange, but when we change this it changes the subfolder settings of the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync site and Active Sync users aren't able to synchronize. If we just keep the Default Web Site Home Directory alone to "A directory located on this computer" ActiveSync works fine. Is there a way to redirect the Default Web Site to /exchange while allowing ActiveSync users to continue to synchronize through port 443? I should also mention that the server source that ActiveSync Users are syncing with is the same Default Web Site name. Thanks.  - Exchange ActiveSync configuration Hello, I am having difficulties connecting my new Windows Mobile (v6) device to our Exchange 2003 SP2 server installed on Windows 2003 SP1. The Exchange server was setup before I got there. We have Outlook Web Acces, which works just fine with a SSL certificate from VeriSign. My account in AD is set for Mobile access and same for the Exchange server. The OWA server is seperate from the mail server. Can someone help me or point me in the right direction on where to start looking? Our OWA has a /exchange at the end, but my mobile device doesn't keep that when I enter it in. Thanks!  - Standalone Exchange 2007 installation Environment: There are 2 domain controllers and 1 Exchange Server 2003 Standard edition. All operating systems installed are Windows Server 2003 Standard edition. 2 more servers shall be added in this environment with an external network storage, on which a Windows Cluster is required to be installed (Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition x64). This cluster is destined to have highly available the File and Print Server Roles for a group of ~35 users. An Exchange Server 2007 Standard Edition is also reqiured to be installed as a standalone server in coexistence with the Exchange Server 2003 in tha same organization. The Exchange 2007 was destined to be installed as a standalone server only (not in cluster mode) on the first node of the cluster. Problem: As we came to find out, the Exchange Server 2007 Standard edition is not allowed to be installed on the first node of the cluster with the Mailbox, Hub Transport, and Client Access roles. It only allows you to install an Active or Passive Mailbox role together with the exchange management tools, which is of course not supported by Microsoft in a production environment. So the problem now is that we have an Exchange Server 2007 Standard edition which cannot be installed in the existing environment, therefore we are trying to find what are the options to provide a solution and proceed with the implementation. Options in question: - Is there a way to technicallly allow the Exchange Server 2007 Standard edition to be installed on the first node of the cluster? - If we use the Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise edition can the the Mailbox, Hub Transport, and Client Access roles be installed on the first node of the cluster? - Can the Exchange Server 2007 Standard edition be installed first on one of the two servers and then install the Windows Cluster? - As no more machines can be acquired for this environment, can there be a solution provided without leaving behind the option to install the Windows Cluster? Instale dos servidores Exchange 2003, todo funciono correctamente en la instalacion pero cuando quize hacer las pruebas de conexion entre ellos una sola fallo. Enviar correos desde el sitio A al B.  - best way to allocate my SAN space for EX07 I have a limited number of disks right now in my EMC CX300 SAN. I am going to deploy a CCR pair of mailbox servers and I am wonder what the opinion is for the best way to layout my LUNs. There will be 3 servers connected. 1 CAS/HUB and the 2 MB servers. I have 15 133GB SCSI disks in the SAN. So far, I have 1 RAID1 raid group split in 3 LUNs, and the other 13 disks in one large RAID5 group and several LUNs in there split umoungst the 3 servers. Does this make any sense? Should I have seperate RAID groups of 3 disks each for the different Storage groups? how much performance will i lose by having all 3 servers use the same RAID1 for logs and the same large RAID5 for DBs? I won't have enough disks to really do it right with a raid1 and a raid5 group per server, so I am looking for advice on getting the most performance out of it as is.  - Memory Question We have exchange 2007 sp1 on windows server 2003 r2 64-bit running and have a question. We have 4GB of RAM in the box and the entire system has over 2GB available memory. It seems to remain pretty constant, yet our page file grows upwardly to 5GB. I guess I don't understand why that would grow so much when the system has all this memory available. Any thoughts?  - Anti Spam updates & Enterprise Version Dear reader, 1) We are a relative small company moving from former Exchange versions to 2007 (SP1) 2) We decided that we would not use the Edge Server role because it is rather expensive (additional hardware). 3) Main reason to move to Exchange 2007 is that we can use the enhanced anti spam facilities (and the like). Note: We also installed Forefront for Exchange (SP1). 4) Anti Spam updates is why we opted to install the Enterprise Version of the product, because only that version supports the (daily) updates. We used an Enterprise Key to activate Exchange. 5) We enabled the anti-spam functionality on the Hub Transport server ./install-AntispamAgents.ps1. No problem. 6) We created a policy in Server 2008 to update Exchange via the WSUS (3.0 SP1) on an hourly basis. 7) On the WSUS server, we do receive the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise Block List and the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise Anti-spam Signatures on a regular basis (several tines per day). Perfect. Problems are following: A: We see in the WSUS that our Exchange Server does not install the Enterprise versions of the filters (mentioning Not Applicable). However, it does install the Standard Filters (that are updated once per month). This is of course a behaviour we do not want. Where can we locate the problem and how can we solve it? B: In addition, we discovered that anti-spam functionality on the Hub Transport server does not enable us to e.g. enter domains in the Allow List Some of the filters simply do not have the Property tab (they have it on the Edge Server).  - Exchange 2007 SP1 certificates and MAC Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place We are having problems getting Entourage to work. Issue is with installing the certificate on MAC. Mac need the certificate which has a private key. When I go to IIS and try to export the certificate the Export Private Key is grayed out. How do we get this installed on MAC. For your info. this certicate is an Internally genenrated Certificate and works on all PCS but not the MAC. Please help.  - Exchange 2007 and SSL Hello, I have a client how has a single server running AD, DHCP, DNS and Exchange 2007 (know it's not ideal but it's a 2 person business, and will move over to SBS 2008 when it's released!). During the installation of Exchange, it creates it's own SSL cert, which uses the server names as it's common name. Outlook 2007 clients then connect over SSL using this certificate. As they use OWA externally, I have installed a proper SSL cert which uses email.<domainname>.co.uk as it's common name. This has in turn caused local Outlook 2007 clients to bring up an Security Alert message box when first opened about an invalid name on the SSL. This is because the Outlook clients are still pointing to <servername>.<domainname>.co.uk. When trying to tell Outlook to use the email.<domainname>.co.uk alias, it automatically reinputs the physical servername, which means I can't prevent the alert from appearing in Outlook. Any ideas?  - Exchange 2007 with 2003 and 2008 domain controllers Hello, Our domains and forests are at the 2003 Server functional level. 2 domains and 1 forest. We are going to be upgrading one domain controller in each domain to 2008, and after that this summer we plan to be running Exchange 2007 SP1 on a Windows 2008 server (we will be transitioning from Exchange 2003). Is all of this supported? I am concerned about any implications running Exchange 2007 in a domain with both 2003 and 2008 domain controllers. Thank you for any input.  - Forestprep Hello, I have a Win2000 domain. DC=Win2000 . This server does all roles as I had no other servers to assign any roles to or to use ofr AD replication. I am attempting to install a BlackBerry Enterprise server in my domain. This new server is Win2003. Our Exchnage 2003 server is in a separate domain. One requirement for this BES program is that I install the Exchange Server Manangment Tools so when I did that it tells me I should have run forestprep. so this would be the version of forest prep that comes with Exchange 2003..it is to be run on my 2000 Active Directory...... will this work and doesit in any way cause any changes to my Win2000domain/active directory that will cause problems to my users ( authentication or any thing like that ?)  - Jetstress installs but will not run JetStress will install, but will not go beyond "Checking Test System". Searching the net, I find this several times, but no resolution. I have JetStress 08.01.0177.000 and am trying to test a cluster for Exchange 2003. And copied the following files from the Exchsrvr\bin directory. ESE.DLL - 10/4/2005 ESEPERF.DLL - 8/25/2005 ESEPERF.HXX - 1/24/2007 ESEPERF.INI - 1/24/2007 Unfortunately, Exchange was installed before I got involved in the project. I have stopped all cluster resources with the exception of the disk, Name, and IP resources and prior to installing Jetstress, I unloaded the performance counters unlodctr ese. Like other posts, when I run JetStressWIN, I get the message "This process is required to restart for the changes to take effect." When I run using JetStressCMD, I get this message, another message "This process is going to restart itself within 5 seconds" at which time a new window spawns, with new windows spawning after each restart. I do get a message "Database or Database ==> Instances performance counter category is not registered" that displays every time. Does anyone have any idea?  - new setup can't send/receive from the outside Good morning, I setup a new server (W2k3) with Exchange 2003 on it. This is a test environment, so it is not part of our company's domain. The server has two nic cards - one is on the LAN side and the other connects directly to the cable modem from the outside. The domain registrar is pointing to the IP address of the WAN connection. I registered the server in our DNS table internally. I can send/receive to the server internally, but externally it isn't being seen. Any messages sent from the outside bounce. Also, you can't send to an outside email address. I had it working with just POP services prior to installing Exchange, so I know the domain registrar is setup correctly and the IPs are all setup correclty. I don't know what needs to be done at this point. I am a newbie to Exchange, so I need it spelled out please. Would I need to buy a domain name and point this to my exchange server for people to access email using OWA? Everything else works perfectly - autodiscover, outlook anywhere, etc... Can change OOF in web client just fine, but not from client. There is nothing useful on the web after literally hundreds of searches to find an answer. I have installed Rollup 2 onto SP1, so the server is latest and greatest bits. I've turned on detailed tracing in IIS and get this in the trace: ModuleName IsapiModule Notification 128 HttpStatus 500 HttpReason Internal Server Error HttpSubStatus 0 ErrorCode 0 ConfigExceptionInfo Notification EXECUTE_REQUEST_HANDLER ErrorCode The operation completed successfully. (0x0) Very frustrating...is this a known bug or a config issue. The 500 errors showing up the IIS logs tells me it's a bug...but who knows. Anyone hit this sucker? I'm having mayer connectivity problems on my new 2003DC with Exchange 2007
SP1 installed on it. After a reboot there is a period of at least 2 hours of
bad response and even ping timeouts.
After aproximately 2 hours everything suddenly seems to work fine until the
next reboot.

Configuration
1st DC W2K3SR2 32 bit
Then installed 2nd DC W2K3SR2 64 bit also made it GC
Thirdly installed Exchange 2007 on 64 bit DC and upgraded to SP1

Configuration is completly updated, and no errors are appearing in any of
the logfiles, running best practice analyser and the performance
troubleshooter doesn't reveal any flaws.

Hi,

This is not likely an Exchange problem. Sounds more than a network
driver/card problem.
