    - sending and receiving email from any domain name Hi, How can I reveive email from any other domain than the one setup on exchange server? From my outlook I can only send email to @mycompany.com and I can only receive email from @mycompany.com . mycompany.com is the domain setup on exchange.     - Global address troubles please help When I go to open a shared calender and select the 'Global Address List' is shows all the users on the domain and also the domain name as a group but with only one of the users below it. All the other users appear above it. I shared this one user located under the domainname group and was able to open that address book. But I cannot share any other users as they don't 'appear' to be in the 'domainname group' In the user manager for domains all users are part of the 'Domain/users' group. Why don't all the users appear under the 'domainname' group when trying open a shared folder? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you.     - Exchange POP3 doesn't retrive any messages? Hi there, I have installed an Exchange Server 2003 at a Windows 2003 server. I am able to send messages from the exchange server this means that SMTP must be configured correct. In the mean time I want to use POP3 as well. 1) I changed the POP3 Service to start Automaticly 2) Started the POP3 Virtual Server under "Protol" in the System Manager I am able to logon to the POP3 (and IMAP) server both with an Outlook Express client and with a telnet session, but I do not retrieve any mails. I tried to send an email both to myself and to another account / mailbox at the same server, bot I will not retrive them. If I send the mail to a mailbox at another server (an external one) I will retrieve the message. telnet host 110 user <user> pass <password> list (no mails are shown) I have tried to send the mail to several adresses both internals as well as externals. Like alias@<IP Address> (i.e. alias@192.168.0.100), alias@hostname and alias@domain.dk but nether of them is working. The mailbox remains empty.     - Trouble Shooting Upgrading a Virtual Server on Active/Passive clus I have successfully installed Exchange 2003 on node one of my active/passive cluster. I have placed the Computer Name, IP and Physical Disk online and then attempt to upgrade the virtual server. When I do this, I get the following error: The formt of the specified computer name is invalid. Err: c00704ba Src: Win32 I did have some problems on my AD Forest where one of the Schema Masters had a '~' in the name. I have corrected this, but the exchange virtual server will not allow me to perform an update. Are there any places that might be a good place to start troubleshooting this? I firmly believe this may be a problem with my Active Directory, but I have no idea what computer name the upgrade of the virtual server is attemting to use.     - New AD user created, but doesn't show up in Exchange after migrati I have a domain controller system that used to be the Exchange 2003 server. We have since migrated to a dedicated mail server with Exchange 2003 SP2 on it. After this was installed on the new mail server, I selected the accounts to move in Active Directory and chose Exchange Tasks then Move Mailbox and chose to move them to the new mail server. I then disabled the exchange services on the origianl exchange server, but did not uninstall exchange yet. All of these moved accounts work perfectly now. However, when I create a new user in Active Direcotry on the domain controller the new mailbox does not show up in the System Manager on the mail server even though i have chosen during user creation to create an exchange mailbox and selected the new mail server from the list. I read something about Active Directory Connector and how it will replicate data between Exchange and AD. I tried installing this on the new mail server but I can't figure out how to get it to work. As I previously noted: I've got a new SBS server w/exchange up and running. When I connect through a client with Outlook 2k3 and go to my exchange folders and share my calendar I cannot see it from other peoples Outlook. I have given them permissions and such. When they try and open a shared calendar they can select my account from the global address list and open the calendar but none of the tasks shows up. We were all using .pst files locally and would like to keep them for mail delivery but use the Exchange calendar how can we do this correctly? The tasks were originally in the .pst files but I copied them into the Exchange calender and the still could not see them. Then I created new tasks in the Exchange calender and none of them show up from the other workstations. I've even given them editor permission. What I'd like to do is keep the mail delivery to the .pst files and use the Exchange calendar. That way our office manager can see who is doing what and make schedules accordingly.     - upgrading from Exch2003 standard to enterprise I'm running a server with Windows 2003 standard and Exchange 2003 Standard. I am almost at the 16GB information store limit. Can I do an in-place upgrade to Exchange enterprise on a server running Windows 2003 Standard? If so, is there anything I should be worried about with running Enterprise edition on the current server (Single 2.8Ghz Xeon, 2GB RAM)?     - Possible Connector Issue. Send/Receive Mail Fails After a Few Hour I am currently configuring Exchange 2003 enterprise as my backend server, and Exchange 2003 standard as my bridgehead server. Everything works well for a few hours. My users are able to send/receive mail as designed. After a few hours, all mail traffic stops and ends up being stuck in the queues. At this point, nothing will unfreeze the messages to get them sent short of a reboot. Once I reboot the offending server, all of the messages are delivered immediately. Any ideas?     - Single Forest - 2 Organizations?? We are currently running Exchange 2003 in a forest with a parent and a child domain. Users in the parent domain (company.com) use the current Exchange server and we would like a second server for the users in child.company.com. The new users will have email addresses in the child.company.com namespace. I've read and been told that you can't have multiple organizations in a single forest. I want to completely separate the two sets of users as far as GAL and Public Folders are concerned. What are my options for accomplishing this? Thanks!     - Question concerning ADC & Connection Agreements I have a wierd issue in that I cannot complete step 4 of the ADC wizard (creating connection agreements). I have 1 connection agreement between my site and a sister site. I do not have access to a appropriate account on their network in which to validate credentials to create the CA. The sister site does not want to give me an account at this point in the game. So my question is as follows: 1. Is it possible to complete this step of the ADC without creating that particular CA? I ask this because the wizards states that these are recommended CA's and that I can choose which ones I want to create. However, I am not given the option to deselect any CA that is already in place on my Exchange 5.5 server. How can I get around this issue.     - Need advice on migration from Exc. 5.5 to 2003 Hello all, I'm going to upgrading our network from NT 4 to AD2003 with Exchange Server 2003. Curretnly our company only uses outlook for a shared calendar that is used for the Employee Itinerary. We don't use the mail functionality at all because we host our mail on a collocated server. I just started working with Exchange Server 2003 this week so I'm a real newbie to Exchange. I need to know what steps I have to take to migrate the shared calendar from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. There are mailboxes defined in Exchange Server 2003 but they're not being used. Any pointers owuld be helpful as well as any web links specific to this problem. I've been searching the Internet for a couple of days now but all that I have seen so far are tutorials on how to migrate mail. I have 3 different Exchange 5.5 orgs.     - Trouble migrating to Exhange 2003. Hi everyone, I had a troble during exchange 5.5 migration to 2003. Well, I installed exchange 2003 on windows 2003 server, in a windows 2000 Active Directory domain. Everything worked fine. But before I was able to migrate the accounts from the old server (5.5) to the new (2003), the old server crashed. Now I see the acconts on the new server and I'm able to re-create the mailboxes on it, and they still works, but the Exchange still see the old server (of course).     - Migrating to Exch 2003 from 2000, quick Q Hi, I'm migrating our single w2k/exch2k server to a new server running w2k3/exch2k3. I plan to install the new server into the w2k domain, seize roles, move the mailboxes and replicate the folders etc. Once all done the existing server will be taken out of the domain and wiped. One thing I am unsure about is that we have a lot of remote offices that access the current exchange server via VPN. I was planning on giving the new server a DNS alias of the old servername (i.e. so outlook resolves to the new server). Will this be enough to allow the remote offices to connect to exchange?     - Wins - stay or go I have read so many articles about Exchange needing WINS. Does it need WINS or not? This is exchange 2003. Our company has a web adress (domain) but we do not serve it from here. We want to set up in house e-mail using MS exchange server 2003 but I am not sure where to begin. Our domain is www.parkmazdaakron.com and we would like to have e-mail adresses like: jsmith@parkmazdaakron.com. If anyone can help me with this, I would really apreciate it.     - Webmail - exchange 5.5 & 2003 environment I have an Exchange 2003 Server and an Exchange 5.5 Server on my domain. We are migrating all users "eventually" to the 2003 Server. For the time being, the users housed on the 5.5 server have been able to use webmail, NOW that I have made the 2003 Exchange server the MX record, and turned on Https for webmail, only users that are housed on that Exchange 2003 server can use webmail, and those housed on the 5.5 server cant get to their mail...     - 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for I am having a problem with a Exchange 2003 server that is also a POP3 server. I have configured Outlook express to use the POP3 server to retrieve emails. When I am using a OE client local to the Exchange server everything seems to work fine and I can send and receive email to local and remote email addresses. When I use a OE client that is not local to the Exchange server I can receive email, but not send. The error I receive is: The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'someone@othercompany.net'. Subject 'test', Account: 'Frank', Server: 'mail.localcompany.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for someone@othercompany.net', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79 On the OE client I have checked "My server requires authentication", which seems to clear up this issue for many people, but I am still receiving the error. On the Exchange server under the "Default SMTP Virtual Server" I have checked the "Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay, regardless of the list above" The Authentication is set for 'Anonymous Access', 'Basic authentication' and 'Integrated Windows Authentication" If I set up an open relay I am able to send email from a remote location...So I think there is something I'm missing with the client authentication.     - can't start setup in disaster recovery mode We just restored a windows backup set containing the entire C:\ partition and the System State Data. The restore was 100% successfull, however when we reboot the server to try and re-install exchange using disasterrecovery mode switch it tells us our metabase is corrupted. Upon checking out IIS we can see that it is not running at all.....should we re-install IIS and then try the setup using the /disasterrecovery switch or do we need that old metabase data from when the server was working?     - beginner's question I am helping out with a small non-profit that has 15 desktops at a single site (Ethernet LAN, file server) and depends heavily on e-mail which is currently hosted outside. We are moving to a domain environment on Windows Small Business Server 2003 with Exchange server. We do not intend to host our web site, but we are considering hosting our e-mail.     - Changing Recipent Update Service I am in the process of trying to decommission an exchange server, and I want to make sure the old one has all roles moved off of it. So I am trying to change the Recipient Update Service from the old server to the new one.. and I keep getting this following error. I have verified most settings including the DNS Servers, Run DCDiag, against the cooresponding DC, and run Netdiag all with no more idea of why this is happening.. Anyone else seen this? I have read a couple of articles that will suggest running domain prep again. But I am not sure I want to do that right now..     - Drive Optimization Hi, We've got a Compaq ProLiant DL380 G2, which is our Exchange 2000 server. It has two physical RAID 5 drive array's, one being logical drives c: and d: and the second physical drive being e:. The system has 1 GB of RAM. This is a company of ~80 users. C: is the system drive, d: is the Exchange Server drive and e: contains the tran logs. The Microsoft Performance Troubleshooting Analyzer indicates a bottleneck on d:, I'm sure because it contains the page file. I know that having the page file on a on its own physical drive would be good, but that isn't going to happen. Also, the c: drive doesn't really have enough space for the swap file. There are definitely performance issues with this machine. As a side note, we are upgrading to Exchange 2003 and Server 2003 this weekend, so all of this may be a moot point, but I'd still like to know if there is a "fix" for this problem. I am running a W2K Domain "mycompany.com" with DC's in each office location. The offices ,for now, are connected via frame-relay and all Internet traffic flows through the corporate office to hop on a Dedicated T-1 for Internet access at our corporate office. Currently we outsource our website and e-mail, but we want to bring both in-house.     - OOF or rules does not send more than one reply to Inetrnet user - I need help..... This was possible in exchange 5.5, Now we have upgarded to 2003 and having problems with Auto response feature. Autoresponse only works for first internet mail users, but will not send anymore email to same user. We need this feature. To reply on every email that is recieved. We get E-orders through hospitals and every order needs a to respond with a autoresponse. Tried OOF and Rules wizard. Both behave the same way. Would appriciate for any help.     - OWA "404 Not Found" Error Hi I've just setup OWA on an Exchange 2003 FE server. The server sits behind an ISA server. When I type the URL of the OWA site I get the following error: Page cannot be displayed 404 Not Found - The requested item could not be located. (12028) Internet Security and Acceleration Server I originally thought the issue may be with the ISA server....but when I try to access my mailbox internally through the FE server (http://servername/exchange) the mailbox looks like its opening (the blue line appears which splits the folders menu and the inbox) but I get the same error message in both windows: Page cannot be displayed 404 Not Found - The requested item could not be located. I had to jump through hoops to copy the correct profile that had the install info for the Intelligent Message Filter. I was able to remove it using the add/remove but when I try to apply sp2 it says that the IMF is still installed. Addionally, I am running Symantec Antivrius for Exchange and SMTP and also have the Premium Spam filter (Brightmail) installed. Any ideas??     - Recover public calendar Since I'm new to Exchange 2003, I misunderstood the two folders showing a public calendar. I decided to delete one. Unfortunately, when I deleted one, the other disappeared also. We are using Server 2003 with Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2000.     - Multiple domains setup question Currently we have a single domain AD. We are currently installing Exchange with a font end\and cluster backup configuration. At this our users are also configured with an SMTP address for a currently being used external POP3 . We have our recipient policy forwarding the SMTP maill to that server. What would like to do is to migrate our users to use the exchange server for both exchange mail and internet mail. But the 2 domains are using separate name spaces. The department who manages the POP3 have told us that they can place an attribute on the POP mailboxes to automatically forward all POP mail to our exchange server as we migrate the users off the POP3. What would we need to setup on the Exchange side to accept this mail and pass it along to the appropriate users? What would we have to setup on the Exchange side to properly handle the SMTP mail once the users have been fully migrated from the POP3 to their full exchange mailbox?     - New exchange server I am going to replace out old exchange server. Is there a way to replicate the mail boxes and public folders while I migrate every one to the new server? Also I created a test mail box on the old server. when I migrated the mailbox I could no longer logon to OWA with that account and when I tried to go to OWA on the new server it just redirected me to the old server.     - So Tricky !! OWA - Change Password Function ??? Anybody encounter such tricy problem ? If using FireFox v1.07 to do the change password function, it successfully change the password, but it seems the firefox will and only keep 2 passwords, that is we can use the old one and the new one to logon OWA after change password, but IE only allow the new password to logon OWA.     - Recommended Exchange paritioning Hi All, We will be having our own Exchange server 2003 soon. We have ordered new hardware for it and has 6 x 146GB hard drive. 2 of the hard drive will be RAID 1 for the OS and the other 4 hard disk will be running RAID 5. May I know what is the recommended to partition the drives? I will have about 35 users so I assume there should be no more than 40 mailboxes.     - Internet Mail Wizard... remove unwanted domain Greetings -- Went and setup a new Exchange 2003 server. When I did the install and initial configuration I configured the server to use a certain domain -- let's call it mail2.domain.com for the Send and Recieve internet email... Well I actually needed it to be mail.domain.com It was easy enough to make it utilitze that domain however it seems that mail2 is still in there somehow and was wonder what I can do to remove it without having to compeltely re-install the Exchange Server.     - RPC over HTTP w/ local namespace I have sbs 2003 premium and NOT using ISA I am trying to connect a user's outlook through RPC over HTTP, but the configuration for proxy, and exchange name has the .local namespace which isn't routable through internet. At least i am thinking this is where my problem is at. Does anyone has a way that i can hit the server w/ just the IP or a better solution? Problem or error: the server could not be found. Upgraded an installation of a Ex2000 SP3 on a Win2000SP4 DC. The upgrade went
fine apart from alerting on c:\winnt\system32\dapi.dll which was older than
the current installed version. I did not overwrite the newer version. Also
MSSearch files had the same issue with old vs new.

Howerver, once Ex2003 was installed, the server was unable to resolve
hostnames in its own domain. Just using single hostname fails, but using the
entire FQDN works.

It looks like windows no longer adds the domain suffix according to what's
set on the TCP/IP parameters (DNS suffix for this connection). When I set
"Append these dns suffixes in order" it works for a short while, and then
fails to resolve non FQDN after approx 30 min.

This same issue also occured on our OWA server when upgrading for Ex2000SP3
to Ex2003, which was on a plain Win2000 SP4 server.

I've googled and looked around to find someone with the same issue, but so
far I've found nothing. Anybody seen this issue before and have any good
suggestions on how to fix it? Temporary fix so far has been to add all
required hosts to the local hosts file on the server.
