 - Exchange 2003 stand alone Is it possible to set up a single server with Exchange 2000-2003 without having to have additional servers?  - Exchange 2003 / Windows 2000 Datacenter Hi all. New to the group so have a small question. I am running the setup mentioned above and for some reason, when I go to set up the VNNTP server with a feed from my ISP's NNTP server, messages do not seem to get downloaded and put into the newsgroups.  - deleting files identified simply as "_o" I recently attmpted to delete a wave file directory and recieved a message that I could not delete file "_o" (about 10k). I later found one other file , larger, with the same name.  - recipient policy How do I set up the recipient policy to change all my local mail addresses user@domainname.local to one pop 3 isp address so our outbound mail can be forwarded to our pop3 isp account to be deliverd to external mail addresses ? example jim@domain.local wants to send an outbound to steve@microsoft.com but my isp will not pass jim@domain.local so I want it to read company@isp.net which is our single company pop 3 mail address.  - Cal's for 2003 I have 2003 and plan on installing today. I have not ordered new cal's yet. I plan to soon. I know 2000 does not care but will 2003 work until I purchase new cals.  - Remove Exchange 5.5 server from Exchange 2003 I installed a Exchange 2003 server into the same site as my 5.5 server. After the migration was complete, my 5.5 server crashed and is now unrecoverable. Now I can't delete the original 5.5 server from the site. I was told to use a MS KB article that explains how to remove the server from the site but since my 5.5 server is now dead, I can't. There's got to be a way to remove a 5.5 server from a site.  - DCPromo on existing Exchange 2003 Server I installed Exchange 2K3 on a Win2K3 member server in my domain. I later ran dcpromo to promote the Win2K3 server to a replica DC in the domain.  - Exchange 2003 "You cannot install this product on a computer..." I am trying to install Exchange 2003 on a machine that is definitely Windows 2003 server. The machine is part of a Native 2003 domain. The domain controller and machine I am trying to install Exchange 2003 on are clean installs. I was trying to run forestprep and domainprep from the Exchange machine but every time I would get the error -You cannot install this product on a computer running Windows Professiona So then I ran forestprep and domain prep on the domain controller and both were successful.  - missing mailbox in system manager Hello, I have a new exch03 system that the move from 5.5 went pretty smoothly except for one thing-- I have at least one account that does not show up under mailboxes in first storage group, and it's not in the global address list either.  - Event ID 13006 Hi, We just recently tried our test to move from a Exchange 5.5 to a Exchange 2000. Everything seems to be fine till we started migrating.  - OWA configuration - I see directories, not mail Hi, I'm having some trouble with my OWA configuration. Whenever I browse to the OWA url, I receive the login prompt.  - Exchange 2003 Planning Questions I am currently researching and planning my company's Exchange 2003 upgrade. Win2K/Exch2K environment 1 Exch server / Approx 50 mailboxes Pretty basic, simple setup. But I'm the 1-man IT Department. In-place 5.5 > 2000 upgrade went pretty smooth though, so I know I can handle this with enough preparation. So far I have 4 general questions that I was hoping someone could help me out with. 1) Can the Front End server act as a SMTP Gateway as well? Receive internet email and then route to the Back End? Outbound too? 2) Hard Drive config - right now I have a 18GB RAID-1 drive for <100MB of log files. The new server is going to have 36GB hard drives (only size available). Do I REALLY need a seperate drive and RAID for the log files? If not, am I better keeping the logs on the System Drive or the Exchange Store Drive? 3) Can Exchange ActiveSync and OMA be secured with SSL? Any documentation on this? 4) I found MSKB#822945 which tells how to switch hardware but keep the machine name. Should I even bother trying to do this? If the mailboxes are moved to a new server doesn't the Outlook client get updated automatically anyways? Further complicating this is the fact that the current Exch2000 server is also a DC (to be a backup Global Catalog server at that site).  - 2nd Exchange server in domain problems. Hi There :o) In our organization, we have two domains set up in a forest. Domain 1 has an Exchange 2000 (not on a DC) server in it, as does domain 2 (on a DC). We have recently added a second Exchange 2000 server into the second domain (on a second DC), to eventually take the place of the first Exchange server which will be decommissioned. All three servers are in the same routing group. On the old server in domain 2, I changed the "Default public store" to point to the new Exchange server, and moved all the mailboxes to the new server via AD Users & Computers. The only problem was that, when I logged onto domain 2 as administrator, and tried to access the administrator mailbox, it refused to recognise it. Instead, it suggested the administrative account from domain 1.... Would this be synchronised the email address list on the new server in domain 2? After this, I reversed the process and moved everything back to the first computer in domain 2, and after a few min's it picked the right account. Then, about 15 min's later, it decided that it couldn't find it, and suggested the administrator account on domain 1 again! We also noticed that if we shut down the old Exchange box on domain 2, you couldn't create email accounts using the exchange AD Users & Computers on domain 1..... The event logs show the following: Exchange <server 1 on domain 1> Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeDSAccess Event Category: LDAP Event ID: 2110 Date: 30/01/2004 Time: 6:14:47 p.m. User: N/A Computer: <server1 domain1> Description: Process EMSMTA.EXE (PID=4280). Could not bind to DS server <new server on domain 2>, error 51 at port 389. Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeDSAccess Event Category: LDAP Event ID: 2110 Date: 30/01/2004 Time: 5:50:30 p.m. User: N/A Computer: <server1 domain1> Description: Process INETINFO.EXE (PID=1980).  - ADC tools question Ex2003 on Win2K3 server, single domain forest, interim mode, current Ex 5.5 on NT servers During phase 2 of Exchange 2003 installation for co-existence with Ex 5.5 I seem to run into an error on the Connection agreement Wizard. The ADC tools verification comes up with the following Pass 1 of 2: Active Directory Connector Object Replication Check validation (objects processed: 169 Warning: The Exchange 5.5 directory still contains objects that are not replicated to Active Directory. If you have just run Connection Agreement Wizard, allow time for directory replication to complete, and then rerun the verification task in Step 4. Otherwise, run the Connection Agreement Wizard Pass 2 of 2: Active Directory Object Replication Scan validation (objects processed: 168 Active Directory Object Replication Scan completed. No unreplicated objects found Finished verifying the results of the ADC Tools It would appear that one object has not been replicated to AD, even after allowing enough time for replication. Is there a way of finding out which object that is? I mean is it logged somewhere? I couldn't find it in the ADCtools.log for the event Also, what would be the impact if I carry on with the setup ignoring this one object not replicated TIA for any information. Tag: HELP..  - Failed to start POP3 service I've just installed exchange 2K in my lab which is a W2K SP4 PC. On the same PC, configured Outlook 2000 as email client. Outlook runs OK and I can see 2 address in GAL that I created for testing purposes. However tried to compose and email to both addresses (including administrator one which I use to log in). Goes to Sent Items but nothing comes to Inbox. Checked various areas and found in Exchange System that POP3 (Default POP3 Virtual Server) has a "red" X across it. Tried to manually start the service as suggested by the system but then get the following error, "Failed to start the service pop3svc. The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service." Help - what does this mean and can I get it fixed? Thanks. Paul Tag: HELP..  - New Install Problems Hello, I have a new install of Exchange Server 2003 on Windows Server 2003 (Both are the Standard Edition). My first two problems are: 1) One user - Every time he checks his email, whatever is in his Inbox is downloaded again as if it were new email. If there are 200 items in his inbox, when email checks all 200 are downloaded and marked as Unread again, if the inbox is empty then nothing additional comes in as Unread. (I hope that makes sense) Any suggestions? 2) We have several users at another office who have a DSL connection to the internet. Via the internet they use our mail server to send/receive email too. (MX records etc are good, it all worked fine under Imail) They can successfully receive email but they can not send anything outside our domain (To the internet).  - Making a BIG Private Store Here's my scenario: Exchange 2003 Enterprise, using only one storage group right now but seriously considering many more. I'm a typical admin setup. We have users limited to about 100 megs of storage on the Exchange server and then we force them to use local PST files to manage their data after it's resided on the server for a while. It's a typical scenario - they want more storage on the server, we say no way. Then, user X loses his PST to a hard drive crash, and it's our fault. So, what happens if we just throw in the towel? I mean, storage is cheap, what if I create a bunch of storage groups, split my users up, and let them store everything on the server? Limit their mailbox size to something like 2 Gigs? I have 125 users, so it's not that outlandish. What would this mean for overall performance on the server? If I suddenly run this with 275-300 Gigs of space, lots and lots of storage groups (like 8 users per storage group), and all the transaction log space to support them (which would frankly be nearly the same, our volume of e-mail won't really change). Or would I be looking at a need to really increase speed/sizing in HD, performance, etc on the server. Has anyone done this who can elaborate? Thanks mucho in advance. Vo Tag: HELP..  - Replacing an Exchange 2000 bridgehead I need some advice on how to do the following. I have an Exchange 2000 server. It is the Exchange Bridgehead and is a domain controller in AD. Because of hardware issues, I need to make some changes. I need to create a new Exchange bridgehead and domain controller (could be same name, it really doesn't matter). I need to move the existing accounts and mail to this new bridgehead server. What is the best (easiest and fastest) way to do this? 1)Is a full backup and restore on different hardware the best approach? 2)Should I build a new server install exchange and transfer the bridgehead role to this box, then move the accounts from the old.  - Small Business Server 2003 and Exchange 2003 I work in a small office with 3 people. We purchased Small Business Server 2003 and are going to setup Exchange so we can host our email internally. Our ISP is charging too much and we want it in house. My question is this. We have two different domain names and email goes to each. Can I setup exchange to support multiple domains? My other question is regarding Outlook 2003. Can I set up outlook to pull mail from two Exchange account with different domains?  - POP3 Routing in Exchange 2003 I am having trouble downloading email from a pop3 account which has multiple addresses to it. I need to be able to route email addressed to 'jobloggs@blah.com' to the jobloggs Windows account and then route the 'johnsmith@blah.com' to the johnsmith windows account.  - Exchange 5.5 on windows 2000 install error I am having problems installing exchange 5.5 on windows 2000. I have found an article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (269248) that describes the exact error message: XADM:Exchange Server 5.5 Installation stops with Error ID C103798a. It says that the SNMP service could be locking a file either PREF009a.dat or PREF009f.dat. I have stopped this service as recommended but the install still fails with the same error. Incidently, can't find these files but do have perfc009.dat and perfh009.dat as mentioned in the article 251181. Are there other non-essential services that may be using these files that I need to stop for the install? In the event log there is a line reading: The HTTP Filter DLL C:\WINNT\system32\exchfilt.dll failed to load. The data is the error. Any help on this would be appreciated.  - Exchange 5.5 to 2K3 Attempt at upgrade I am currently in the process of upgrading my Exchange 5.5 Server to Exchange 2003, both on Win2k. My existing server is Exch 5.5 on a Win2k Server w/ AD Running, in a single Domain. Historically, this is a rebuilt 5.5 server, kludged together from an offline backup because the original 5.5 server died a tragic death (and no, it wasnt from me beating it to a pulp, despite my inclinations) and I was unable to resurrect it. So, currently, I have a hobbled, Frankenstonian 5.5 server that I am trying to get migrated to 2k3, with little success. The ADC from the Exchange 2K3 disk fails to recognize the Frankenstein Server as a 5.5 Server or an SRS, so I hit on inspiration to create a brand new installed, updated, and patched 5.5 Replication Server (NewServer), then remove Frankenstein from the Domain. This should, in theory, allow me to use the NewServer as my primary Exchange Server, to which I can then follow the remaining instructions in the Migration to 2003 (add 2k3 server to domain, move mailboxes, shut down 5.5) Almost like a swing server, but not quite. Install and Replication seems to have gone just fine; Replication is proceeding with no errors, however after I follow the actions listed in KBA Q152959 and attempt to power down Frankenstein, I cannot get Outlook to recognize the NewServer as the Exchange Server for the domain. It keeps timing out and prompting for the ole Retry/Offline click. In the Outlook Properties, I have a corporate setup running, so in the Services Tab, for the MS EXchange Server Properties, I type "NewServer", and "Frankenstein" continues to replace it. Even with Frankenstein powered down. I have tried using the IP Address and the NetBios name, but no avail. Points of contention with the Domain: I cannot get the Routing Calculation Server Properties assigned to NewServer. I have used KBA 162012 and followed it to the letter, with no success. This appears to be the only role that wont transfer itself to the NewServer from Frankenstein. OAB and Free/Busy both are homed on NewServer. I have been searching for three days now on how to resolve this, and any pointers or KBA links would be most appreciated. I have just one other fallback: Creating .PSTs for all 50 of my users and starting on a fresh 2k3 Exchange Install. I would prefer not to go this route if I can help it. :| Tag: HELP..  - Registered Events not firing and visible in users Inbox We have several Exchange 2000 environments and we have written an Exchange onSave event handler that is registered against a users Inbox to process all incoming mail. However, in one of our environments, the registration results in the event being visible in the users Inbox via OWA. We use regevent.vbs from the SDK and it works fine in all other environments. When the event is visible in the Inbox, it does not fire. Upon examining this item via the Exchange Explorer, we notice that:- - It appears as hidden by appending "(hidden)" to the end of the item name in the list of items. - However, the DAV:ishidden property is set to 0 (false). On a working users, this is set to 1 (true). - We can edit the value of DAV:ishidden on a faulty event registration but not on a working users event registration. However, changing it to true makes no difference. It still does not fire. - The property http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/events/EventGuid is missing from a faulty event registration Using regevent.vbs to "enum" the events on the faulty users inbox seems to show everything as it is expected to be. The reason that some users events are ok and some are faulty (on the same Exchange environment) is that the working users all have mailboxes on the default mailbox store whereas the faulty ones have mailboxes on additional mailbox stores (ie. not the default one). Does anyone know why the event is not firing? Or why it looks different in OWA and Exchange Explorer from a working event? Hi,

I was upgrading from SBS 2000 to 2003. While upgrading
SBS tools, one message popup ask me to reinstall IIS
service to continue installing. I follow the message
reinstalled IIS service and everything install fine.
However, Exchange OWA and HTTP features stop to working,
then I start to investigate and found the following
article, which explained to proper way to do it. Can
anyone help me figure out a way to make OWA back to work?
Note: I have reinstalled Exchange twice afterwards, but
no luck.
