    - Offline Address Book Sync error I moved my Exchange 5.5 mailboxes to Exchange 2003 and all went well except for the users on Outlook 2003 who are using a cached profile. When they go to sync they get an error: Task 'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The operation failed. An object could not be found.' and under the "Sync Issues" folder they get the error: Microsoft Exchange offline address book 0X8004010F Could someone tell me what I need to do to fix this?     - Migration - elimininating 5.5 server I've got several KBs working with including 189286, 152959, 822450, which gets confusing. Single 5.5 server in site to one Ex2003 server in same site. On test network, I moved all user mailboxes from our one 5.5 server to a 2003 server and will do same for public folders, then change DL expansion server to be the 2003 server. Do I just leave the 5.5 System Attendant mailbox and the mailbox created for the IMS on the 5.5 server? Then, is this correct order: (simultaneously, adjust public MX records with ISP) 1. Move site folders (OAB, Schedule + Free/Busy info and org forms) 2. Move site connectors and wait for replication to complete a. Connectors to the other 5.5 sites b. Schedule + Free/Busy Agent 3. Change Bridgehead Server 4. Recalculate routing for 2003 to send/receive internet mail. 5. Stop the 5.5 services. 6. Wait a while (how long??) to verify no problems. 7. Use 5.5 Admin program to delete 5.5 server from 2003 Admin Group. 8. Do the ADC, Config CA_SRS_Server_Name, Replicate Now procedure, wait for replication to occur. 9. Run 5.5 setup and choose Remove All. btw, I can't remove (shut down) the 5.5 server totally as it is a BDC running DHCP and WINS and I still need to migrate those to 2003.     - OAB Version 3a folder missing from Exchange site We have recently added an Exchange 2003 server, into our native Exchange 2000 site. However, upon doing some reading about some Offline Address Book errors we had been having, I've found that apparently we didn't get an OAB Version 3a folder generated upon adding the Exchange 2003 Server to the site. Replication for the OAB 2 folder appears to be happening as expected, but the OAB Version 3a folder which will support the new Unicode cached mode, isn't there.     - Can Exchange pull in POP3 E-mail automatively? Does anyone know how I can setup Exchange 5.5 server so it will pull in a user's POP3 E-mail from an external server (outside our network) automatically without having to use Outlook or other E-mail client to do it? Currently, I have to setup Outlook with the external E-mail's setting and then actually open up Outlook before my external POP3 E-mail would come in, otherwise it would sit at the ISP server. What I like to do is have Exchange server do all the pulling for every user accounts in the Exchange automatically, without Outlook at all.     - Exchange 2003 Upgrade We currently have upgraded to 2003 server across the network with the exception of our Exchange 5.5 server which is running NT4.0. I would like to know if we can load Exchange 5.5 along with all stores to the 2003 member server and then to an in-place upgrade to Exchange 2003. My reasoning for doing this is that we have 500+ PCs and I need to keep the same name for the Exchange server so I don't have to go out and touch each PC with the new name of the Exchange server.     - Blocking attachments Good day. Is there a way to block all incoming emails with attachments of a certain type (i.e.; .pif, .exe)? We keep getting bombarded with these virus emails and I'm wondering if there is an easier way to handle them than to allow them to go to the mailboxes and then be quarantined by Symantec Antivirus.     - Upgrade Is it possible to upgrade 5.5 directly to Exchange 2003? I have a client that has a server with 5.5 on it, but no room to install any more software.     - Exchange 5.5 and 4.0 domain I currently have a NT 4.0 Domain With exchange 5.5. Exchange 5.5 is on a NT 4 BDC. I have 1 PDC and 2 BDC's. I'm going to be upgrading my network to 2003 and exchange 2003. On the server with exchagne 5.5 I'll upgrade to Server 2000. and then install exchange 2003 on a 2003 member server. My question is this, When I upgrade the NT 4 BDC that contains exchange 5.5 should I upgrade it to a 2000 member server instead of a Domain Controller.     - Multiple Outlook accounts I am deploying our first Exchange Server (Exchange 2003). And I'm trying to setup our Outlook clients so that they use two accounts: first our new exchange server and second our old ISP's pop server. The problem is that only the account that is the default Outlook account works. For instance, if the Exchange Server is the default email account then email sent to an outside address is undeliverable and visa-versa for the external pop server Outlook account. (Misspellings, non-existant users, etc) john@mydomain.com --> John. jane@mydomain.com --> Jane jame@mydomain.com --> globalcatchall. All e-mail should come in regardless if the username is correct.     - Reinstall Ex2k Hi pals, My Ex2k crashed last week and i'm trying to reinstall it again. I will stick to the previous scenario, I have win2k svr DC, Ex2k will install on another server and join the DC as member server. I have reinstall win2k svr and managed to joined the win2k DC successfully. After that, I proceed to install Ex2k on the member server DC, however, i received an error " first administrative group exist" setup unable to continue.     - E2K3: E-mail to Public Folders All, We maintain several public folders that get populated by external sources, as well as internal aliases. For example, we have a folder called DAILY_WEATHER that gets e-mail updates from weather.com about the conditions of each of our four offices. Under Ex2000 I just mail-enabled the public folder and was good to go. For some reason, this is not happening with Ex2003. Everything bounces.     - remove offline server from AD We took an exchange server 2000 out of the network without uninstallation. There was neither any remaining mail nor public folder nor any system folder or whatever on the server needed to keep the rest of the exchange server running Because the server is no more available it is impossible to remove the server from the exchange server list by using right button->all tasks->remove server. So how can I remove it cleanly???? By the way: The environment is Exchange 2000 and 2003.     - Running DSDiag When running DSDiag all tests pass except for NCSecDesc. Can't find anything in KB. OS is Win2k3, this is the first E2k3 install on it. No mailserver installed on it currently.     - migration help needed Hello, I have been running in Exch mixed mode for a year now and am finally moving my old 5.5 servers to 2003. The situation is this. I have a root domain running Windows and Exch 2003 and a trusted NT4 domain running 5.5 in a multi site environment. I am also installing a new server to replace the 5.5 box and want to migrate the users from 5.5 to 2003. I'm not that bothered about taking the mailboxs or permission as I can recreate this from PSts if needed as its only for about 15 users. I have now created a new server in the root domain and am installing Exch on it and I was going to place it in the existing routing group (old 5.5 site) in the hope that it would make moving mailboxes easier. When I select which routing group to select, I get an "unknown error". If I select the existing 2003 routing group then its OK. I have a 3 exchange server site: a) Main exchange server b) Bridgehead server c) Remote exchange server At the moment the remote Exchange Server uses the RAS connector to connect to the bridgehead server to pick and deliver email. I've just put the remote server's network onto the main network via a vpn over ADSL to allow tohse users to access applications on our network. Does anyone know how to reconfiguredisable the RAS connection and force mail to flow via the network instead? At the moment the flow is as follows Remote server (Ras) <-> BridgeHead Server <->Main exchange Server <-> Internet The remote server and the bridgehead server are in different domains but in the same Organisation. It is a mixed-mode Exchange org and the users will be split among both AD domains. We will use the ADMT to first migrate the user Ids to AD and then use the ADC.     - Active Dir Connector Fail?? I am at the next to last step in the "Exchange Server Deployment Tools" guide. I have done the "Coexistance with Exchange 5.5" . At Phase #3 Step #4 it says: "After setup, change your connection agreement to connect to the new server running Exchange 2003. The new server runs Site Replication Service (SRS); connecting to this server prevents problems with directory replication and Global Address List viewing". I clicked on the link where it told me how to do it and to use port 379 and all that. I verified that the SRS service is running and there are no errors in Event Viewer. When I do follow the steps I get an error message that says "Unable to contact the Exchange server, please ensure that your connections are configured correctly" ID no: c103aa1d What could be the problem? All the exchange services are running. My test lab is 2 Windows 2000 server (One with Exchange 5.5). I added a Windows 2003 server and did dcpromo so we are in Mixed mode.     - Upgrade Exchange Virtual Server on Cluster I have an Exchange 2000 cluster that I am trying to upgrade to Exchange 2003. I have one physical node upgraded and one virtual server upgraded. When I try to upgrade the second virtual server I receive the following error: Found no Disk resource for the disk that contains the folder 'y:\EXCHSRVR'. Facility: Microsoft Exchange Cluster Administrator Extension ID no: c1037b41 Microsoft Exchange Cluster Administrator Extension I don't think it is really a cluster resource problem, because the resource is online when viewed with Cluster Admin and available when using Windows Explorer. It also still functions normally when it resides on the physical node that has not yet been upgraded.     - Migrating Exchange 5.5 multi-sites question Hi We have a Windows 2000 AD Domain with an Exchange 5.5 organisation with 4 remotes sites located in remote locations. I installed Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 member server in SiteA. This server has the ADC installed with 4 CAs. I have moved the users from SiteA into Exchange 2003 with no problems. I plan to install Exchange 2003 on new Windows 2000 servers in the remote sites and move users using the wizard. The question is do I need ADC installed on these remote sites servers with CAs so that I can move users. Will these CAs be two-way.?? Is there anything else I would need to do.??     - suggested server specs? I am putting together a windows server 2003 environment for a client with about 50 local users and another 50 at 2 remote locations. We are going to be using IBM rack mounted servers and I wanted some suggestions on hardware specs for them. I need the following servers, DNS (also handles DC), WINS, PRINT, EXCHANGE. These should be sepearate and money isnt really an issue but I dont want to go overboard as this isnt a fortune 500 company and the owner will know if I am going overkill on these machines. The thigns I would like to know is just which is any of these will need Dual Processors, RAID, Backup Drives, MEMORY. THings of that nature. I know exchange should be pretty beefy but Im not sure at to the others. I will be using active directory and windows server 2003 on all machines.     - Exchange 2003 multi site enviroment Hi there, I have the following setup: NL -> Forest master / GC -> Exchange 2003 UK -> connected to NL now I'm trying to install a machine in the US and connect this to my organization but it keeps moaning about the fact that it can't find a GC server, however when running dcdiag / netdiag etc. I can see that it DOES find one. To be certain I made the new machine in the US a GC as well, this way it does start installing but halts at 50% of setup with an error "The network path cannot be found", looking up this error on MS support gives me some answers but their solutions don't apply to me.     - Retrieving mail via POP3 (Exchange 2003) All- (I saw that someone had posted a similar question on 2/19/04 as well, but no answers were posted.) I just setup our company's new Exchange Server (2003) and everything seems to be working properly from the LAN side. We also have 3 - 4 external consultants that need to get their e-mail via POP3 but for some reason, their POP3 authentication attempts are all getting rejected by the new server. Scenario steps: 1. Created AD accounts for external users. 2. Created mailboxes and e-mail addresses for each account. 3. Set passwords for each account - removed the "change at next login" checkbox. 4. Enabled the POP3 Connector on the Ex2003 server. Is that it? Do I need to do more? Someone suggested that before a user can retrieve their mail via POP3, they first need to log into the domain at least once before authentication will work.     - SBS 2K to SBS 2003 upgrade major problem Hello there, One of my clients are running SBS 2000. The server has been hacked in the past and maintenance has been poor. The hack is old over a year ago. Removed what we could. The server is experiencing a broken shell syndrome that we have not been able to fix. When we try to install SP1a we do get an error saying that 125mb is needed for this but the server has 3+ gig available on the system partition and much more on other volumes. Another problem we are having is that they netbios name is c&s so upgrading to SBS 2003 is a problem. Reinstalling should be pretty straight forward for everything expect Exchange and there is my problem. That being said, I should add that doing an upgrade is not working because of the netbios name and the lack of SP1a. Could someone shed some light in the best way of doing this. I assume that I will have to setup a second exchange server, migrate all data and users to that sever. Then install SBS2003 from scratch. Configure. Then migrate data and users back - will have I have problems doing that with a new netbios name (dont think so)? Or should I setup a second SBS 2003 server migrate all data from the "broken" server. Install SBS2003 on old server then migrate data back? If I do this will I have problems transferring licenses between the 2 servers? Everything including SQL is no problem to handle my only concern now is the Exchange part of this.     - Exchange Migration BRICK WALL! I am migrating a Win2K server with Exchange 5.5 to SBS 2003. I am following the Migrating from...to Small business server docs from MS. Everything is running along fine until the exchange migration. Running Exchange Server Migration Wizard, at the Specify the name and security information for the source Exchange server. The utility is unable to connect to the server. I can explore and see the server no problem, but the migration wizard can't connect. What should I be looking for? I have made sure that the source sevrer Exchange services are all logging in using the local administrator account with the same password as the local administrator account on the destination server.     - SSL for OWA gives page not found Hi all, I'm running Exchange 2003 on W2K3 server and am trying to run OWA over SSL. I set up OWA over regular http and it works fine. I followed the instructions on obtaining a certificate (I am just using one I made using Certificate Wizard) but using the wizard to install the certificate then checking the box to require SSL. When I type the site name using http://url/exchange it gives me the error saying SSL required to view this site, which is fine. However, when I type https://url/exchange I get a Page not found error. I really need to use SSL to meet my companies security requirement, otherwise I can't use OWA. Can someone tell me why this happens and how can I fix this? Thanks very much.     - Site Failover Suggestions?? Here is my scenario: I have a client that has 2 physical locations, each with a DSL connection to the internet. The way the 2 locations are connected together is via a site to site VPN with a Cisco 1711 router. My problem is that they need redundancy for email, so I wanted to put a mail server at each of the 2 locations. Here is my problem: How do I get my Exchagne mail system, in the event that the main site goes down, to recieve the emails for the users that are at the mail site? if the DSL connection goes down, there is no connection then between the main site and remote site. Since the 15 of 20 users mailboxes will reside at the main sites Exchange server, the remote site will not have access to those mailboxes in the event that the DSL goes down, so what do I do? How do I have the remote site accept the email and get it to the main site at the point that the DSL connection comes back up? I ask becaue the remote site will not have mailboxes for these users on the remote site Exchange server.     - Cannot receive outside mail Yesterday I added an Exch 2003 server to an existing 5.5 org. Late last night I was unable to send Internet mail, but I was able to receive it. I worked on the outgoing problem, but now it appears I cannot receive Internet mail. I have tried sending messages to my account on my domain (greatharvest.com) from Hotmail and Yahoo, but they are not getting to me, nor have I received NDR's for the messages.     - Exchange 2003 in Child domains Hi There, I setup exchange 2003 on 3 machines now, 1 being forest master, the other 2 joined to the forest as trees. All 3 are running exchange 2003, however I now want to add a 4th machine to it and I keep getting the weirdest errors. The main error that keeps coming back during the install is that it can't contact a GC server. However if I run the exdeploy tools it works just fine, also telnetting to the GC on the port works as well.. in DNS the GC is also specified.. Basically all settings look fine. also ran domainprep in all domains (again), even on the forest master and I still have the same issue. I hope someone can help me out, as I need to have this up and running this monday, as you can imagine it's a pretty urgent call otherwise I wouldn't be working on saturday ;-) Cheers, Nils.     - CA agreement practices I'm looking for a best practice of someone that has migrated 5.5 to 200x with respect to how CA's were used. My environment has all 5.5 servers running on 2000 servers already part of a native mode AD. There are 16 sites and 13 child domains. We are also go to 2003 DC's as we roll. The migration will take a couple of months. In testing, I noticed the CA wizard wants to create CA's from the first 2003 server to all sites. What I'm not clear on is whether it would be better to build the CA's site by site-domain by domain as I migrate. Another conflict is the first connect set as a primary seems to be random.     - Smtp relay authenication problem I have been hacked by the guest account being enabled.I have disabled the relay to allow all computers to relay. I still see the ques filling up after I clear them. Does anyone have any step by step instructions to stop all the smtp relay that I am getting. I have disabled the guest account and the bad mail folder is still filling up and the Exchange ques are still filled up. I have exchange 2003 on Windows 2003 server.     - SRS & ADC I am at the next to last step in the "Exchange Server Deployment Tools" guide. I have done the "Coexistance with Exchange 5.5" . At Phase #3 Step #4 it says: "After setup, change your connection agreement to connect to the new server running Exchange 2003. The new server runs Site Replication Service (SRS); connecting to this server prevents problems with directory replication and Global Address List viewing". I clicked on the link where it told me how to do it and to use port 379 and all that. I verified that the SRS service is running and there are no errors in Event Viewer. When I do follow the steps I get an error message that says "Unable to contact the Exchange server, please ensure that your connections are configured correctly" ID no: c103aa1d What could be the problem? All the exchange services are running. My test lab is 2 Windows 2000 server (One with Exchange 5.5). I added a Windows 2003 server and did dcpromo so we are in Mixed mode. Most of my migration experience has been with earlier
versions of GroupWise and Exchange. We are moving from
GroupWise 5.2 on NetWare 4.11 to Exchange 2003. From what
I can determine, the Gateway Services for NetWare and
Client Services for Netware functionality has been
replaced by MSDSS. Could someone please validate this for
me?

Also, the customer has a question regarding scheduling
resources such as conference rooms, projectors, etc. Will
they be able to schedule these resources from both
GroupWise and Exchange 2003? Thanks in advance for any
assistance.
