Planning to deploy our first CAS/HUB in Exc2003 envoirenment.

Few thoughts:

Currently all mail is being sent from BE Cluster to the Internel to Postini.

After I deploy my first HUB, I still want all the mail to flow thro BE
unless I point it to the HUB Server. I know mail flows thro HUB but here at
this point I dont want it to flow thro HUB.

Will the mail still work in this scenario?

I will point the BEs to route mail via the HUBS once I deploy both HUBS/CAS
and configure NLB at some point.

Advise Please.

Do you have an SMTP Connector? If not, create one and remove the smart host
setting in the Postini server. Then once you install the first CAS/HUB
server it should not take over the outbound routing from Exchange 2003
unless you so direct it by changing your routing by creating a send
connector. But please note that Exchange 2007 mailbox servers don't send
mail in that sense any more, all that is done by the hub transport role so
what you want to do doesn't apply to Exchange 2007 mailbox servers.

Thank you Ed for your response.

Want to take things one at a time ...so I have change of plans .....for
now I will just install both the CAS one by one and NLB them and let them run
for few days .....

Once all is cool then I install first HUB on one of these CAS boxes and take
it from there slowly ....

Currently there is one SMTP connector sending mail to Postini ....on my x2003

Here is what I am thinking ...please correct me if wrong ...

- Configure the existing Conenctor on X2003 to route mail to my first HUB
and create an outbound connector on the HUB pointing mail to Postini ...
-Configure my TLS over SMTP (tested that already) ...we encrypt mail between
us and this other org

Advise Please, thank you.

You didn't say in your first post that these are two organizations. If that
is the case it really doesn't matter how you install the Exchange 2007
servers because they won't have any effect on your Exchange 2003
organization.

Please explain what you mean then by "we encrypt mail between us and this
other org" and how it relates to your question.

If you have one Exchange organization, installing a new hub transport server
should not affect your Exchange 2003 mail routing. When you're ready to
switch the outbound mail routing through the hub transport server, simply
create a send connector for the * address space. Change the address space
of your Exchange 2003 SMTP Connector to something unroutable like
"clownpenis.fart" and after routing recalculates verify that all mail is
passing through the hub transport server. After you're comfortable that
mail flow is working, you can remove the Exchange 2003 SMTP Connector.

For inbound mail, all you do is change your MX records, firewall, NAT or
whatever it is that directs the inbound mail to the Exchange server to point
to the new hub transport server.
