We are using Exchange 2000 on SBS2000. We had an Outlook 2003 client/
user 's system go down so we logged them into another workstation that
has OutlookXP. We added the Exchange Mailbox mail account in Outlook
(using the Mail icon in Control Panel). When we opened Outlook it
showed the mailbox folders listed under the Mailbox-Username and also
a "Personal Folders" section underneath that. When we did a send/
receive, it started moving mail from the Mailbox-Username\Inbox, Sent
items, etc to the same folder in the Personal Folders section. This
took about 30 minutes. However the Contacts did not move -they remain
in the Mailbox section.
Questions:
1. Why did this happen, we would like to avoid this problem in the
future? After the Send/Receive finished, we went back into the
Exchange Mail Account options and set it to deliver mail to the
Mailbox-Username instead of the Personal Folders.
2. We plan to repair the user's oriiginal system. Now that the mail
came into the Personal Folders (OUtlook.PST), and the user replied to
the email from there, how can we synchronize back from the user's
Personal Folders to their mailbox on Exchange?
3. What can we expect when we open Outlook on their original system?
Where will the mail be since we created this mailbox on another system
and we have a PST file with their new mail?
