    - ADC not fully replicating I have recently installed ADC on a new server we are migrating 5.5 onto. I have ran all steps included with the deployment on the exchange 2003 CD and everything checks ok. The problem I have is step 4 on Verify in the ADC tools doesn't complete. The second verify says there are still objects needed to replicate onto the 5.5 exchange. I have three connectors, Public (Two-way), users (Two-way) and Config CA (Two-way). No objects are in the logs adcobjectcheck.xml and I have installed 2003 with SP2. I don't know if I can keep proceding with the migration or if I should correct this problem first. I have looked and seen everything replicate so far onto AD but obviously there is something holding it up. Is it ok to proceed or should I correct first before the migration? If I need to correct, how can I check and see what object is causing the problem? For reference the 5.5 server is windows 2000 and 2003 server is Win2k3. Both have updates installed.     - GAL to contacts? Is there any way to provide outlook clients with a Contacts list populated from the GAL?     - forestprep missing permissions Hello, I tried to prepare my forest (Microsoft Exchange 2000 mode) to Microsoft Exchange 2003. (both german versions) on a domain controller with global catalog. Windows 2000 Server SP4, Exchange 2000 SP3 + Post SP3 (Exchange was new installed on a new server) dcdiag and netdiag work well. During Forestprep I get everytime the error, that I haven't the permission or the AD is busy. So first I checked all rights (enterprise admin, schema admin, domain admin, local admin) for the user account. Everything fine. Looking in the ExchangeSetup log file: --- part from log file --- - Entering ScDetermineIfLocalDomainServerGroupHasAlreadyBeenACLedOnExchangeCT - Using cached result for domain "/dc=de/dc=schloss-neubeuern" - The required permissions have not already been set --- log file part end --- hypothetic questions: (the questions which can help me see below ) a) So what could be the "CT" after Exchange (first log file part line)? b) which one is the local domain server group? The group "DomÃ¤nencontroller" (engl. domain controllers) in Gruppen (engl. groups)? The "Exchange Enterprise Server" in Users? there are no local group? c) which object will be checked by forestprep? I know it is coded in walksdll.dll I found, that in most knowledge bases artikels the SeSecurityPrivilege is mentioned. And I tried different kb. (314294, EDSLockScript from SP2, 254030, Q292757, 313807; Q328906; q279749; 326136, ...) I also tried KB 830186. It doesn't work. I restored the whole system to get it back. ---- okay, nothing could help me. so I have to find out, what exactly will be done in forestprep during the line: ScDetermineIfLocalDomainServerGroupHasAlreadyBeenACLedOnExchangeCT so that I can manually check it.     - setup owa without ISA server Hi, I would like to know how setup my front end server without isa server. The users need to have access to their mail box trough the internet. I have setup the server as a Front end server and install a certificat to use ssl, but It is the only thing i did. I did not find any step by step to setup owa. If I have to create some virtual server or directory etc... In the same way, the front end server will have to find the right back end server ( 2 BE for 2 sub domains ( ccc.mydomain.com and zzz.mydomain.com) Some body can help me about that. Thank in advance.     - Exchange eval to full version. Our trial version of Exchange 2003 enterprise edition has now expired. I have read the Microsoft document on how to do the in-place-upgrade and retain the data, by selecting reinstall. I have done this and it states it has completed successfully. Unfortunately it still stops the services every hour or so and it still shows as enterprise/evaluation in exchange system manager. I have checked numerous google groups, ect, and it apears other people have had this issue, but no one has resolved it other that doing a complete/fresh install. I cannot do this as it is a production server, and the backups are incomplete.     - Recovering mail from old domain I had to rebuild my ADC/Exchange Server, and give it a new domain name. I have the old .EDB/.STM files mounted as a Recovery Storage Group but when I try ExMerge, I get the following errors: Error! Cannot identify the user with the msExchMailboxGuid M\18\0C\BF\BD\D6\B5B\B0\A9\2E\E3fI\14L. The legacyExchangeDN is /O=OLDDOMAINNAME/OU=FIRST ADMINISTRATIVE GROUP/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=USER1. I also tried the Recover Mailbox Data Exchange Task. I accept the offered Destination Mailbox Store of NEWSERVERNAME/First Storage Group/Mailbox Store (NEWSERVERNAME) and it fails with the following error: "The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0512-00000000" The system shows the 2 email accounts in that storage group, but I don't see how I can migrate/map them over to the new server. The old server is toast, so I cannot simply connect the two. I've run eseutil & isinteg and the stores appear OK... --Will Take the dontspam out of the email to email me.     - Exhange 2K in Win2k setup failed Hello All, I'm installing a new exchange server in a new domain (new forest, etc) in a win 2k SP4 server (DC and DNS server). Using the administrator account. In the stage when the Ex 2000 installation is configuring the registry to install Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration the setup fails and gives me the following error: "Setup failed installing sub-component information store service with error code x007007e (please consult installation logs for a detail description). You may cancel the installation or try the failed step again." If I retry the step it fails again and again. I had tried reinstalling the OS and Ex with the same results so obviously I'm doing something wrong (which I have no idea).     - OWA Login produces 404 after SP2 update We just installed Exchnage 2003 SP2. After the install our frontend server (OWA Server) brings up the login page as normal, but after you type the login name and password to log in it displays page 404 page not found.     - Shared Contacts Setup Is there an easy way to make the following happen? I have an Exchange Server 2003 SP2 that has many individual users and one user named "staff" that folks invite to meetings in order to have the event show up on our "Staff Calendar". This works great! Now we want to share Contacts in a similar way. The ideal scenario is: User opens Outlook or Entourage and the default address book is a combination of the GAL and this Staff account's contacts. This default also holds true for OWA clients.     - force e2k3 removal My Exchange setup has 2 servers. ServerA & ServerB ServerA was the first server installed, since then the mailboxes appear to have been moved to a bigger server (ServerB). ServerA has been powered off since June and everything is functioning. I do not know the status of ServerA. I know it still runs, but I didn't plug it into the network on boot incase it had been compromised in some way. Ideally I should reconnect the box and remove Exchange that way, but because the previous admin is not here (nor available) I have not idea what happened to ServerA and why it was shut down. Therefore I would like to format ServerA and repurpose it. Is there an article somewhere on how to force remove a server from the exchange hierarchy?     - Moving Exchange 5.5 to new server Yes...We will be going to Exchange 2003 soon but for the moment I desparately need to put my existing Exchange 5.5 on a new box. I have followed the directions of KB155216 that instructs me to move the files priv.edb, pub.edb, dir.edb, and the corresponding log files to the corresponding location on my new server however, when I do this the Event Service and Message Transfer service do not turn back on. The application log reports a MAPI which according to the the Microsoft KB indicates that certain dll files are not registered properly and to try to re-register these files.     - How do I create an account in Exchange that can open any mailbox in the domain? Hi, As a generic (but mostly desktop) Windows guy at my last organisation, I once used an excellent little article to setup a administration account for Exchange that could open any mailbox on the organisation for test / troubleshooting purposes. I would log in to the client machine using that logon and then configure the mail profile to match the server\mailbox of the account I wanted, and then it would open up the user's mailbox in Outlook. Unfortunately, I cannot remember how to do this, although I know it was very simple. I am sure this question will irritate many due to its low level nature, but can anyone point me in the right direction to do this again? I am temping as an IT guy at a new organisation, and when I asked the others how to access user mailboxes in this way they looked completely baffled. Any advice would be very welcome.     - Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 - questions I have recently successfully upgraded our old NT domain to Active Directory/Win2003 and now I need to implement Exchange 2003 (on new hardware). Current status of the network is as follows: AD is in place (domain is at Interim level as we still have 1 NT BDC). 1 Exchange 5.5 SP4 server handles all mail - this runs on a W2K member server. Exchange 5.5 mailboxes all point back to the corresponding user account in AD. A new Win2003 server is ready and available to install Exchange 2003 on Just want to clarify a few things about the move. 1. Before I start the migration process I plan to decommission the last NT BDC. Am I ok to do this or does Exchange 5.5 need an NT BDC domain controller to function? 2. Am I right in saying that the best way to migrate is to install the new Exchange 2003 server into the existing Exchange 5.5 organisation? If so will I then be able to move the mailboxes a few at a time? 3. I'm a little confused about the ADC - I know it links together AD and the Exchange 5.5 directory but not sure what info it transfers and in which direction. The user/group info in my Active Directory (eg phone numbers, group membership, job titles etc) is alot more up to date than the user info in the Exchange 5.5 directory. I don't want the old info in EX5.5 to overwrite new info in AD when I install the ADC. 4. Most client PCs are on Outlook 2000 (although they will be upgraded to 2003 - presumably this will be ok with Exchange 2003. 5. Does the forest / domain functional level have to be at a certain level before you install Exchange 2003 - I know it extends the schema at some point. We have several things going on: 1) New hardware server replacement for exchange server (1 site, 1 domain, 1 storage group). 2) Upgrade from exchange 2000 to 2003. Here is what my plan is thus far. Let me know if it is sound, needs tweaking, or needs to be scrapped. 1) Setup new server, join domain 2) Install exchange 2003 on it (forestprep and domainprep first) as a second server in same storage group. 3) Upgrade old server to exchange 2003 4) Move mailboxes using exchange 03's move scheduler 5) Leave old server up for 1 month to ensure all (*most) clients have moved to new server 6) After all mailboxes moved, change outside IP/inside IP NAT in firewall, move SSL cert for OWA, ... I would like to use the public folders but the problem is that - I am not able to mount the pulic folder store (error c1041722 - Exchange doesn't find an object...) - There doesn't Public folder structure.     - protocol stack question? I have 2 sites which connected with an IPLC line. Each site having an ex55 and ex2k running and the ADC already installed. There are no problem if the user's mailbox is located on ex55 it can send out and receives from both sites and internet. But once I moved the user's mailbox to Ex2k; no problem to send out and receives from the internet side but not on the inter-site's side. I am wondering do I need to add the X.400 stack on Ex2k server? Since I don't really understand how does the mail flow for inter-side after mailbox had moved to ex2k.     - Exchange 2000 to 2003 Migration We will be upgrading our current Exchange 2K environment to an Exchange 2003 setup. The new Exchange will be on a new server within the same domain as the 2000. I want to use the migration tool to move the mailboxes over to the new server. My question is. Can I setup the new server as a different "organization" and use the same server name as the existing server? I know you can't migrate to a server within the same organization. If I can use the same server name then I won't have to change the Outlook configurations of the clients. They currently point to server1 and when I'm done they will still point to server1 although on a different box. Is this possible? Are there any other ways to do this type of migration?     - Upgrade from Exchange 2000 failed I recently upgraded our server from SBS2000 to SBS2003. It seems to have mostly worked, except... After the upgrade most of the Exchange services were disabled. I fixed that, and mounted the mailbox store, now users can access their mailboxes and send email. But I have tried to install SP2 and also run ExBPA and both fail telling me that Exchange is not installed. The SBS internet and email wizard does not show the internet options. I cannot telnet 25 from the server itself. OWA is also not working properly. Only administrators are authenticated. There are however no errors in the logs. Help! Please.     - ESE Event 489 Read access to old location of priv / pub After moving my exchange databases, I recieve 489 errors with "open file operation" read failures for each exchange database file. The issue is the location being referenced in the error is not where exchange databases have been moved to, they are referencing the locations where they were moved from. Re-Installation of Exchange 2003 I recently successfully installed Exchange 2003 as my plan is to migrate users from Groupwise 6.5 I had been waiting for SP2 release to start testing etc!. On preparing the server for the multiple domain names in use by configuring Recipient Policies an error occured where it would not update users addresses I tried a few things to resolve, but as this was a fresh install with very little conifiguration and no data I decided it would be quicker to uninstall and re-install this is were the problems started I get an error message generated from the wizard staing that I need to be a full Exchange administrator to run "Forestprep" or install the first exchange server in a domain. Dale Sprott I used the same account that I used originally and checked verified that Forestprep was installed, even though I am certain that schema changes are irreversible once done. I then installed only the ESM in order that I could verify that the account was assigned full Exchange Administor privilges which it was! I can only take it there is something wrong with the values contained in AD that prevents me from installing the server components.     - admin group in ESM disappeared While in the middle of an Exchange server 2003 to Exchange Server 2003 migration (purchased a better server), the admin group in ESM vanished. Now both servers cannot communicate. I'm getting alot of active directory communication errors in the event log. Users can log on, but cannot access any of the three servers (all Windows 2003 server). I installed SP1 and moved the DNS server to another server when all this happened, but I'm not sure what event triggered it.     - ADV Step 4 verify hang up. When configuring the ADC everything goes well. But, the second test on the verify tool (Active Directory Object Replication Scan validation) says there are still object waiting to be replicated. I looked on the logs and I see no objects left to be replicated.     - solution: Bug in Exchange 2003 SP2 Setup with Front End OWA The current Exchange 2003 SP2 update does not include the SP1 OWA web controls. Thus if you set up a new front end server and update it to SP2 withouth installing SP1 first, it will not work with a SP1 back end server. When trying to use the premium client, you'll get an ugly screen that just has some broken buttons and a Loading... text. The fix seems to be to simply copy over the controls from a machine that ever had SP1 applied.     - OWA Exchange Server 2003 Security Setting Issues-Forbidden, No Pro Just setup a new Exchange Server 2003 and OWA. Everything works great except 2 major strange issues which I know are related to incorrect security settings. The first is I can access OWA by typing http://exchangeserver/exchange/username, without being prompted for a username and a password. It will just open right up, which I have never seen before in my life. Second problem is if I try to do any changes in OWA like send emails, or make Calendary changes I will get a MS error window that says, "Forbidden". Not the error IE 403 "Forbidden Page" error, but a little window pops up that says "Forbidden", which I've never seen. I know these are all messed up security settings, but have spent the last 2 days adjusting every setting I can think of, and mimicking other Exchange Servers I have to a T, with no success. Hi, I'm building an AD/Exchange environment, and need to insure email delivery between users on both platforms (it will take a few days to a week to move evryone over, and some Unix people may not want to be moved yet) Should I: A) Create AD/Exchage accounts, but temporarily alias Exchange users to their existing Postfix + IMAP accounts. (?) -or- B) Just create email alias's on Exchange (pointing to Unix accounts), and as each account is moved over, create AD/Exch accoiunt and move mail and remove alias.(?) Background: I have the AD/Exchange environment built. Next would be: A) 1. Create all user accounts on Exchange. 2.. For each account added to Exch., have Exchange create a mailbox, but then also add an email/smtp alias pointing to their old Unix server account. This way: a) as each user is migrated over, when they send mail to other not-yet-moved users the mail will be forwarded to Postfix and received properly; b) I can create all the accounts at once, before moving people; c) I can migrate Windows users profiles into AD domain ad hoc. 3. One at a time, move each user's mail via IMAP move tool (not sure with one to use), then retire the old account, remove Exch email alias, and have the user connect to Exchange. B) 1. Create Exchange email alias for all users, each pointing to old Unix account; 2. One at a time, a) create user's AD account + Exchange mailbox, b) migrate user's profile into AD, c) move IMAP mail via some tool, d) remove Exch email alias, e) remove Postfix account.     - Issue moving mailboxes I have recently been put in charge of a network with an Exchange server that has issues. One of my first tasks was to get Exchange up and running on a new server that was purchased before I came. It already had a very flaky install of Exchange 2003 Enterprise and the RAID was set up incorrectly. I remove Ecxhange, removed it from the domain and rebuild the server properly. Installed Exchange. When I move a mailbox from the old server to this one, the Outlook client is never redirected to the new one. I receive an error: "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened." I can manually go to my mail settings and change the server, but this is not acceptable for all users. Also, one issue on the old server, I am getting the 9186 warning and the 9187 error in the Application log. Microsoft Exchange System Attendant has detected that the local computer is not a member of group 'cn=Exchange Domain Servers,cn=Users etc. The server is in that group, but it doesn't show it. I have restarted the SA many times. The server object is in the computers container (for now) and the Exchange Domain Servers groups in in the users container. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it.     - Major NT and 5.5 upgrade I need some advice. I have a network that has a main NT server, that also runs our Exchange server (5.5). We need to upgrade NT to Server 2003, and also upgrade Exchange to 2003 since Server 2003 won't run Exchange 5.5. Here are the problems I have.... 1. If I upgrade Server 2003, Exchange 5.5 won't work. 2. If I upgrade Exchange, it won't run on my NT box. 3. Since I don't have Server 2003, I can't use Exmerge to extract mailboxes from 5.5. 4. My other servers are NT servers also, but house our accounting software, payroll software and anti-virus software. So, here in lies the conundrum. I need to upgrade NT to 2003, 5.5 to 2003, without having to buy new hardware. I believe that I remember you can't just upgrade 5.5, you have to remove it and install Exchange 2003 separately if you are going to use the same box.     - E2K > E2K3 migration on new hardware All - just installed E2K3 along side our E2K box (which is running W2K) so I can eventually just move the mailboxes over - everything appears to be ok i.e. both servers are listed in ESM, but for some reason I keep on getting the userenv error 1058 and 1030 (on our W2K3 DC) - now if I look for the GPO it is trying to reference, access it ok - the gpt.ini is also present - it just states the access is denied [1058]??
