We are planing to upgrade from exchange 2000 to exchange 2003 on New
hardware and eventually take the exchange 2000 server out of service
(we have just the 1 exchange server). I was just wondering if someone
can confirm if the following is the best way to upgrade and clarify a
couple of points.

Install windows 2003 server and Exchange 2003 on New hardware
( Do I need to run forestprep/domain prep?) ( all our domain
controllers are win 2000)
Add to Exchange Organisation.
Eventually Move all Mailboxes to The exchange 2003 server.
Once Everyone has been moved to exchange 2003 Follow KB307917 to remove
exchange 2000 from the exchange organisation.

It all appears to be too simple so I am sure I have missed out some
vital steps....

Thanks in Advance

- Are the Exchange Server(s) DCs or do you have separate DCs?
- First Exchange Server 2003 installation in the Org requires Forestprep and
Domainprep
- With move mailboxes replicate public folders as well, pfmigrate.wsf does
this well
- After you've followed 307917 shut down Exchange services on old server for
a couple of days and make sure all's good before uninstalling Exchange from
that server.

Thanks for your reply.

We have seperate Domain Controllers - the exchange server is just that.

I wont be doing it for a while as the hardware hasnt arrived yet.
Hopefully it should all go ok.

Thanks Again
