I recently upgraded to exchange 2003 from 2000. The
server is up and running fine on a windows 2000 domain.
All new emails that come in are directed properly and can
be opened without any trouble. When you attempt to open
an email that had exsisted prior to the upgrade it causes
outlook to lock up and request data from the exchange
server. Basically you can't look at these messages
anymore.

Any idea whats wrong?

The exchange server is running on a windows 2000 SP4
member server.

I would suspect logical corruption, try dismounting the private store and
running
isinteg -s (servername) -fix -test allfoldertests
from the exchsrvr\bin directory and select the mailbox store to check.

hth!
