I have been following MSFT migration articles and am
getting close but have hit a stumbling block. I have a
native mode Win2K server environment, with 5.5 running on
my PDC. I have installed Exchange 2K loaded on a separate
machine that is not a DC. I've run the ADC and it seems to
have run successfully as I now see Exchange options in AD
users & computers. Here's my roadblock, in article 316886,
under Migration of Mailboxes and Public Folders it says
"Start the Exchange 5.5 Administrator program, and then
connect to the Exchange Server 5.5 computer.
Locate the following folder, and then click Public Folder
Resources:
Organization\Site\Configuration\Server\ServerName\Public
Information Store\Public Folder Resources

For each public folder in the right pane, click File, and
then click Properties.
On the Replicas tab, make sure that only the Exchange 2000
Servers you are replicating the public folder to are
listed on the right side under Replicate folders to. If
the Exchange 2000 server is listed on the left side under
Servers, click the Exchange 2000 server, and then click
Add to move it to the right side." I don't see my new
Exchange 2K server when I do this and I can't add it.
Therefore I can't replicate public folders. Also when I
try to right click on a user in AD and choose Exchange
tasks, move mailbox is not an available task to choose.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you installed Exchange 2000 did you join the existing Exchange
Organization or did you create a new one with the same name.

In the 5.5 admin program do you see both servers listed?
What about on the E2K side?

Since you don't have a Move Mailbox option, then the 5.5 configuration
information has not replicated into AD (this is done by the config CA). When
you open the ESM, you probably don't see 5.5 information. When you open the
5.5 Admin do you see the 2000 server listed under servers? If so, then the
5.5 Admin and connect to the Exchange 2000 server (in this case you're
essentially connecting to the SRS), can you see both 5.5 and 2000 listed
under servers?

This information will help us understand where the problem may lie. Such as
5.5 not replicating to the SRS, or SRS not replicating to AD via the
Config_CA.

I could not join existing Exchange during the install. I
created a new one. The problem was when during the install
it asked for the username and domain name both which were
greyed out and could not be changed.

You will not have the option to move mailbox since you didn't join the
existing Exchange Organization.
You have two separate Exchange Organizations that are not going to talk to
each other.

You only have a couple options at this point.
1. Exmerge the data into the new Exchange Org
2. Remove the current E2K Org completely and install it again joining the
5.5 Org.

OK...so based on an earlier post to this thread you indicated you did not
join the existing Org/Site. That is the problem. You'll have to use
something like the Exchange Migration Wizard to get the mailboxes over to
the new server.
