We have a sbs2K server and domain used by company A and company B for
file sharing.
We (company A) have been using Exchange 2k on the sbs server for a
year or so fine. Company B wanted their own file and exchange server
so have bought exchange 2003 Enterprise Edition and a new shiny
Windows 2003 Standard Server to put it on.
I have configured the new 2003 server without a problem and joined it
to the domain as a member server. Users logging on to the domain can
access shares on the new server without a problem.
I then tried to install Exchange 2003 (following the Deployment Tools
guide). I read somewhere to run the ForestPrep and DomainPrep on the
sbs server rather than the new server because it is the DC. I done
this (successfully i think - it ran without error) and then began to
install Exchange Server on the new 2003 box.
I get to the Component selection window and when I select "typical"
from the drop down for "Microsoft Exchange" i get a windows warning
saying "The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration
Services" cannot be assigned the action "Install" because: - You
either do not have permissions to complete this operation or Active
Directory has not replicated all the necessary permissions for the
deleted items container. Please check that you have sufficient
permissions to modify Exchange Components and that replication is
complete before running setup.
I am logged in with a Domain account which has Domain Admin, Domain
User, Enterprise Admins, Exchange Domain Servers, Exchange Enterprise
Servers, Schema Admins rights and Local admin rights. Although
noticebly it does not have Full Exchange Administrator rights which is
not available to add to it.
Anybody know why the ForrestPrep and DomainPrep runs aren't giving me
this option? or in general what i am doing wrong? can this be done at
all? Help!
Sorry for the lengthy post.
Thanks
