I have been very slowly and deliberately following all of
the steps of installing Exchange 2003 (Enterprise) on a
brand new 2003 Server into my native mode Windows 2000
Domain with an existing Windows NT4 server running
Exchange 5.5 SP4. I've followed every step, verified
everything along the way, and finally got to the actuall
installation earlier today.

I made sure to be installing Exchange 2003 into an
existing 5.5 environment, but now none of my users can log
into their 5.5 mailboxes. Administrators can log into any
box, but the users can't login to their own.

I don't even know where to start looking for solutions
because this wasn't supposed to happen at all. I hadn't
even planned to begin migration until this weekend at the
earliest. Now, all my users are MAD and want back in
their mailboxes.

Can someone please get me started on figuring out what
went wrong here? Ask whatever questions to get whatever
additional information you need, because I don't even know
what is relevent to include at this point.

Thanks for responding.

The only error messages in the Exchange 5.5 logs relate to
my one Mac user who accesses mail through pop, and it's
just saying that she's entered the wrong password. All of
the accounts in question are enabled.

The only thing that's changed between when my 5.5 accounts
were working and them not working is the actual
installation of Exchange 2003. After the installation was
completed, I followed the additional steps of changing the
Connection agreements from pointing to the 5.5 server to
pointing to the Exchange 2003 server, as per the
instructions.

I've since tried deleting the CAs that were created in
that step and just recreating the one between my main DC
and the Exchange 5.5 box. I was able to create that
connection, but it hasn't fixed my problem.

To reiterate, my users can't log into their mailboxes;
they are getting "You do not have permission to log on"
error messages when they try to start Outlook. They are
able to log into the network just fine, and they have all
network resources.

Just for a sanity check, try re-creating an Outlook profile and see if
you can at least do a check name. If so, see if you can at least then
access a mailbox.
If not, start looking at your DNS setup and GCs.
All clients pointing at the right DNS server etc...
Since you are down right now, it may be quicker and more efficient at
some point to simply call PSS.

Have you tried moving the Mailboxes to the Exchange 2003 server using the
Exchange move tool in ADUC? This sounds like the ADC got screwed up, and
replicated bad permissions back to your 5.5 server (Total Guess!)
