    - Moving mailboxes I'm doing migration from Exchange 2000 to 2003 via move mailbox. I have replicated public folders and tested moving some mailboxes.     - Attachment Filter Agent not found Hello, I'm using exchange 2007 and have all the roles in 1 server. I want to enable the "Attachment filter Agent" in the Hub Transport Role. I'm using the following shell command: Enable-TransportAgent -Identity "Attachment Filter agent" But I get the following error message: Enable-TransportAgent : Transport Agent "Attachment Filter agent" is not found.     - Exchange 2003 and ActiveSync on SBS2003?? Im getting ready to try and roll out ActiveSync here and I just wanted to make sure I have it the correct steps down. Is this what needs to be done? 1. Make sure ActiveSync is enabled on the Exchange server under Exchange Manager. 2. Create a self signed cert or get one from a 3rd party. 3. Copy cert to device and install cert. 4.     - Public Folder replication questions I'm migrating from Exchange 2000 to 2003 via move mailbox. Right now I'm replicating the public folders and found that after adding the new server to the replications tab, the old server shows the status as local modifed or both modified and the new server shows as in sync. Since the new server shows the status as in sync that means it is replicated? Also, I replicated the Schedule + Free Busy to the new server (the mailboxes have not yet been moved). I logon to my Outlook and tried to vew free /busy information for other users and it says "no free /busy information can be retrieved". Is this because the mailboxes have not been moved to the new server? Lastly, on the top Public Folder in the "Public stores associated to the folder tree" section, it still shows the 2000 server as well as the 2003 sever.     - set up with /Disasterrecovery I'm testing it for our DR plan. Our production server is running on Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition, Exchange 2003 Enterprise Edition. The DR server I plan to use is running Widnws 2003 Standard Edition, which will support Exchange 2003 Enterprise Edtion. But to use /disasterrcovery switch do I need to reinstall the DR server to Enterprise Edition? All the documents I read said to use "same OS".     - Configuration Setup I have noticed in the current session in my default SMTP virtual server I see several people/Ip Address showing up and i also see several items in my outbound queue. Does this mean someone has found a way to send emails through my server even though I do not have an open relay? We do have an SMTP scanner in front of the exchange (MIME sweeper),having that server configured in our virtual SMTP as smart host, but that shouldn't be the problem - I removed the smart host, and I get the error again.     - setup /preparelegacyexchangepermissions fails to run We are testing Exchange 2007 evaluation on Ms Virtual Server, (prior to an imminent production installation), with a physical E2k box on W2k, and virtual Domain controller running W2k3, and virtual E2k7 (to be) box running W2k3. All preparations have been made prior to running setup /preparelegacyexchangepermissions /prepareschema, /preparead. Dotnet 2.0, windows powershell, and mmc 3.0 have all been installed. Also W2k3 SP2 has been installed and IE enhanced security has been turned off. However the setup /preparelegacyexchangepermissions fails to run from the command line, and returns to cmd prompt. On trying to run E2k7 from GUI, the following error msg is returned: An error has occurred in the script on this page. Line 263&.. Error: the system cannto locate the resource specified URL: file://c:Documents and Settings\mylogin\local settings\temp\default.htm The line on the specified page reads: el.filters.item(0).src = el.src; Any suggestions on how to overcome this problem, and get setup working?     - default exchange administrative group not created I'm still new to exchange server and just installed it on a windows 2000 DC. While reading my reference, just noticed that the default administrative group is not installed. It indicates to me that at this threshold (or above), the mail will go to the users Junk Mail Folder.     - Exch 2007 - SCL Quarantine Hi, I set up SCL Quarantine to forward spam to my mailbox and they are arriving by the truck load. The message only contains the text " Delivery of this message to the following recipients or distribution lists is quarantined:" along with who sent it and who the recipient was supposed to be (plus other diag info). How can I see the actual message so that I can determine if it is spam or not? And if I determine it is not spam, how can I recover the original message without all the "quarantine" text and diag info and then forward it to the proper recipient?     - OWA and Vista Hello, We are running Exchange 2003 with the latest SP. Our OWA works great will all clients other than those using Vista. The email loads ok, but if I try to reply or create a new message the body has a Red X. I've disabled all security that I know of and can't make it work. Has anyone had this same issue?     - Exch 2007 and Spam Hi, I used to have my incoming Exch 2007 mail filtered my my hosting companies web mail server before it was forwarded to my Exch Server, but after changing my MX record to point directly to Exch, I'm finding the incoming SPAM has shot way up. Outlook 2003 has the Junk Mail folder and I suppose it will start catching a lot more spam, but I'm wondering if there is something I can do on Exchange that will prevent it from getting to my users; or even better, from filling up my storage group.     - Exchange Server ports Could someone be so kind as to tell me what I am doing wrong. I am running a firewall and trying to open only the necessary ports for Exchange Server 2003. I had all the common ones, like SMTP (25), etc. For whatever reason, when a piece of mail is sent to me, I do not receive it. To test it I DMZ all to my computer and then I receive the emails so I know it has to be a port I am missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Also, if someone can give any tips on configuration of Exchange to prevent people from sending messages out on behalf of my domain. I currently only have an open relay for one user which is needed.     - IMAP works IMAPS does not I can get IMAP to work without any problems, however, when I change both the server and client to require secure authentication, I can never connect to the server. I'm running Exchange 2003 and have tried 3 different clients (Outlook 2003, Outlook Express and Thunderbird). The exchange server has a valid SSL certificate that I originally configured through IIS for OWA. I'm using this same certificate for IMAP. I have loaded the root certificates on the client. I get different error messages depending on which client I'm using: Thunderbird error - "the server "my server name" is not an IMAP server" Outlook Express - server has disconnected Any suggestions would be great.     - Outook 2007 Hi, I've a Exchange Server 2007 with Outlook 2003 clients on a DC with Roaming User Profiles and Redirected Folders. My users go from workstation to workstation and things work fine because all the workstations have Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Pro. I want to introduce Vista workstations with Outlook 2007 and I'm wondering if this is going to work? I've already experienced problem with a user jumping back and fourth between 2003 and 2007, but I think this might be an isolated case in my test environment. These were email accounts that did not have a mailbox, but would rather forward the email to a mailbox. Example: MyAccount@MyServer.com has a mailbox.     - Exchange 2007 Server Transition Here's what I would like to do. I have a brand new Dell Server that I'm going to install Exchange 2007 on. I have an existing Exchange 2003 Server called TRITON. I would like to name the new server TRITON as well. Is it possible to export the Exchange data (dbs and logs) from the existing Exchange 2003 Server to a non-Exchange box (like an array), remove the old server from the domain, bring the new Exchange 2007 server online with the same name and import the data from the other server? I know this is a longshot but it's something I've been asked to check into. I'd prefer to just give the server a new name, run the trasition, properly remove the old server and be done with it.     - Wierd SMTP issue 4.4.7 Error All I got a really strange issue. our ISP host our MX record 10 ***.***.115.88 mailserver.mydomain.com 20 ***.***.115.94 mailserver2.mydomain.com There reason for the two MX records is that we use to have a Exchange 5.5 server and I was in the process of migrating users from 5.5 to 2003. Now that is complete, the Cisco guys here change the DMZ config and is pointing 115.88 to point to the Exchange 2003 and 115.94 to point to our old 5.5 Exchange . Here another thing I have to add, there is not PTR record to point 115.94 to mailserver2.mydomain.com, only 115.88 has a PTR record, which works just fine. I have sent server emails out to Comcast.net and AOL.com both does a reverse lookup and the issue is that AOL.com does not go through but Comcast.net does. Juno does not work either. Right now I'm replicating the public folders and found that after adding the new server to the replications tab, the old server shows the status as local modifed or both modified and the new server shows as in sync. Since the new server shows the status as in sync that means it is replicated? Also, I replicated the Schedule + Free Busy to the new server (the mailboxes have not yet been moved). I logon to my Outlook and tried to vew free /busy information for other users and it says "no free /busy information can be retrieved". We currently use in production an iSCSI to connect to the SAN for the data stores. We use a crossover cable for the Heartbeat, VLAN the iSCSI connections, and VLAN the Network NIC. I am not sure if VMware can have multi NICs within the same server instance and operate on separate VLAN's.     - Cannot connect to Exchange 2000 on Vista I'm unable to connect to an Exchange 2000 server via Outlook 2007/2003 on Vista. The problem is specifically linked to the OS and not the Outlook client, since connections to the same server on Outlook on a different OS (Windows XP Professional) work fine. I have tried both Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003 on Vista and they are unable to connect. I'm able to ping successfully to the Exchange Server from the command prompt. However, when I try to set up the Exchange account in Outlook, the mail setup fails after I click "Check Name" saying that the server cannot be accessed. (It's a regular Exchange 2000 connection. There's no RPC over HTTP) I have tried disabling firewalls, and UAC, but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I've also tried a fresh install of both Outlook and Vista, but no dice. As I mentioned earlier, I'm able to connect using Win XP. Even more infuriatingly, if I run VMWare or Microsoft Virtual Machine inside the Vista OS, and then run Windows XP and Outlook on the Virtual Machine, it's able to successfully connect to the Exchange Server!     - Exchange 2007 LUNs on a SAN Question regarding disk placement. Our Exchange 2007 Mailbox servers are on a SAN. This means that all drives in the OS are really striped across all the disks on our SAN. Is there any benefit to putting databases on separate LUNs/Drive-Letters as well as the log files? With 10 different storage groups this comes out to 20 drive lettters / LUNs and we're quickly approaching using all of them in Windows. There's really no performance benefit here and since we're using RAID 10 (mirror/stripe) I can't figure out if it's necessary. Is it possible that a LUN could get corrupted just on the OS level and thus it's best to separate all the LUNs? I have Exchange 2003 running on a Small Business Server 2003 platform. I have 2 virtual SMTP servers and connectors running (both on seperate IPs). I have everything set up the same (except for the IPs). The default (mail.magicprocess.com) is able to send/receive mail perfectly. However, the secondary one (mail.eprocesserver.com) is not able to send mail from outside the organization. I can send/receive while on the network, but if i send something from my personal acct I get an error. When sending from personal email, the error message I get is...     - Suggestions on helping reducing Exchange store I have recently started with a company over the past couple of months and have a BIG project on my hand. We have One Exchange 2003 enterprise Server. Small network about 100 users. I have users that have kept every single email ever received and sent to them. There's no size limits on the mailbox. Currently the store is about 120 Gigs. There's about 30 employees that have larger then 3 gig ost files. Performance on the server is just bad. At least 75 percent of the users have laptops and need to access there mail when i move it off the exchange store. The other challenge that I face is to start archiving email for legal issues and have mention archiving solutions to management but dont want to spend the money. I need some help on setting a process down. What I was thinking of doing from the start is all employees be at a 1 gig ost file. I have my work cut out for me but something needs to be done and company has no money in the IT budget. So just want to start some where. Tell me your thoughts. For Example. 1.) Use ExMerge and archive mail from a certain date to multiple pst folders. 2.) move the pst folders back to the users laptop using some standard folder structure within Windows XP. I have some interns in the company that I can use over the next month when we start hitting the desktops. Is there a way to create folders through a group policy? 3.) Implement a email policy on user size limits and add 30 day deleted mail in deleted items folder. 4.) Educate users on the new process 5.) Once this has been accomplished implement MS Journaling. For my legal problem that I face. 6.) A couple of questions that I have is how big can this journal mailbox can be and also would i still need to add a policy if I'm archving now using journaling? 7.) When I exmerge all employees mail from the store to pst folders I would like to be able to keep this data for legal issues before I give it to the users and store it on there laptop. Just incase they lose there laptop or hard drive crashes. Is there a way that I can take all of those pst files and import them into a journaling mailbox. If needed for legal that I can do a index with google and search for a particular email. If not, I will need to use outlook client and have multiple pst files open.     - Four Small Sites Hello: I am exploring the design of a small Exchange 2k7 implementation. The client has four small sites (each under 30 users) and probably 30 users who are remote from any office. The sites are located in four countries (the US and three in Africa). While the actual bandwidth from the African sites to the Internet is decent, the latency to the US is high (average around 700-900ms) and the latency between African countries is higher than to the US (almost double). The questions are: - Is Exchange even feasible for such a structure? - Is a single Exchange box in the US the way to go? - What type of calculation should I be making to determine the ability of African users to connect to an Exchange box in the US? I would like to know if there is a "step by step" procedure for
accomplishing this type of migration within the same domain? This would be a
new machine installation with SBS2000 residing on a machine to be retired.
This would clear the way for me to license the server and CALs.

You want to upgrade to full Exchange? That will necessitate you upgrading
your domain to a full Windows domain. I recommend that you ask on an SBS
newsgroup because the MVPs there are more familiar with the scenario you're
describing.
