    - Is anyway to get around this? Hi all, We are going to retire all exchange 2000 servers with new hardware w/exchange 2003. But, when I installed exchange 2003 on the new server, it says that I have to update the windows 2000 frontend servers first. I have two exchange 2000 frontend servers and two clustered exchange backend servers. So, I have to update the Exchange 2000 frontend servers in place.     - RPC-OVER-HTTPS I have successfully deploy RPC-OVER-HTTPS and it is fully functional. Is there a way to configure this to use a safe token or any Single-Sign-On method.     - Telnet and Exchange Hi! I wish to prevent any access by Telnet on port 25 from the outside of my organization. I am running W2K3 Server, with Exchange 2003 Server installed. The telnet service is disabled in the Windows Server, but I can still telnet and get the Microsoft exchange banner on port 25 from he Internet. Any idea? Help appreciated.     - exchange 2003 and ISA 2004 on same hardware hello ... i have searched through different documents but no luck finding something documented. Is there somewhere written if installing ISA 2004 and exchange 2003 is a supported configuration or i will end up with a million of problems... Keep in mind that the machine will also act as a domain controller , but it wont be multihomed. Will have only one NIC and ISA will act as proxy.     - ADMT question hello, I have read a lot about ADMT and i am still confused about one point. I have a WinNT 4.0 domain with Exch 5.5 on a member server in that domain. I also have a W2K domain in mixed mode. I have a W2K3 member server in the W2K domain that i intend to put Exch2k3 on. I want to move the users and sids from the NT domain to the W2K domain. We are not satisfied with the old WinNT 4.0 domain and did not want to do an in place upgrade to W2k of that domain. We decided to start over. I know the W2K domain must be in native mode to run ADMT 2.0. My question is will i still be able to use ADMT 2.0 to move users and sids from the old NT domain after i switch my W2k domain to native mode? Will trusts permit me to still do this after going to native mode? My goal is to not have our users loose login capability to their email. Email is about the only thing left on the old NT domain. The users currently login to the new W2K domain. They are given permission to their mailbox using the Exch5.5 permissions tab.     - CO-LOCATION EXCHANGE SERVER Gentlemen, Can any one give 10 + good technical reasons weather to go for co-location or not. We have existing setup up and running. I would like to have an expert advise regarding Exchange Server Co- Location. At present we have exchange Server located in our company premisis which serves to 1500+ employees we have no issues at all. What is your openion about Co-location. The nearest ISP is 150 + Kms. Do you suggest to go with the existing setup to be in the company or opt for co-location @ ISP are there any advantages in doing so. Note: There are less no of remote users and all users are with in the compnay only few users who are on vacation or business trip use webmail access to see the email. I am instructed to do a fesibility study in this regards. Kindly advise and if you could give me any documents or presentations or website links which supports your suggestion i appricate this.     - Want to set up home domain and exchange server Hi guys/gals I'm looking for some articles on setting up a domain running Exchange at home. I have very little experience at fiddling with Exchange and am trying to improve my skillset. My scenario is I have a static IP and I have a server at home. I will of course install: W2K Server AD DNS The I'll put the exchange server on; where do I go from here? I assume the installation wizard will ask some questions; do I need to buy an internet domain, does the server need registering to a domain with the same name? I essentially want to have my own domain name like www.somename.com hosted from my own server with mail server and routing available so I am able to have myname@somename.com email addresses and perhaps give some friends/family one.     - Problem with Intelligent Message Filter, Post SP2 Hello! We recently installed Exchange Server 2003, SP2. Prior to the install, we had Intelligent Message Filter v1 installed. After SP2 install, we seem to have some of the IMF v2 installed, but do not have the "Intelligent Message Filtering" option listed under the SMTP protocol. Does anyone know what the fix is for this?     - OWA I am trying to use Outlook Web Access here is what I have Server 2003 (member server) running exchange 2003. I want to allow people within the company to be able to jump on a computer outside our network punch in a url which will allow them to log in with their user name and password to OWA. Our current set up is a sonicwall firewall/vpn device with everything behind it. I want them to be able to use the OWA without having to use the VPN. I have been using the book Mastering Exchange server 2003 (By Barry Gerber) as my guide and have followed step by step how to map the drive and get it set up. I can link a network card on the server to a public static ip address and i am off and running no problems. But I do not want to keep a public static ip address on our server.     - Migration to new Exchange Enterprise SP2 Recently, I have installed an additional Exchange Enterprise SP2 back-end server on a new hardware box and migrated all mailboxes from the old server (Exchange Standard SP1) to it. The new server installed with Symantec Mail Security 4.6 and BrightStor ArcServe Backup r11.5 with Exchange Agent. The old server was uninstalled according to the Microsoft Article ID: 822931 and reinstall it as Exchange Standard SP2 front-end server. On the new back-end server Application Log, I got the error Event ID 8197 every 25 minutes. On the Exchange System Manager, when I opened the Properties of the MailBox store, I got this error: There is no such object on the server. Facility:Win32 ID no: c0072030 Exchange System Manager After clicking the OK button, I can still access the Properties page. When I clicked Public Folder-->Properties-->Permissions-->Client Permissions, I failed to open the page and got this error: The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed. The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0512-00000000 ID no: c1050000 Exchange System Manager This error was accompanied by an error Event ID 9175 in the Application Log. On the outlook client, whenever we send meeting invitation to Resources, we got the error saying: Unable to directly book a resource for this meeting All clients cannot open the Public Folders and got the error: The set of folders could not be opened.     - Uninstalling Exchange 2003 An additional Exchange server was accidentally installed while trying to install the client tools. An attempt was made to remove this server by deleting it from the servers tree in Exchange System Manager. Now any attempt at a control panel uninstall fails with this message An Invalid ADSI Pathname Was Passed 80005000 I suspect that the uninstall is trying to remove the adsi entry that was already removed. Anyone know the cure? NB I just want to remove exchange from this server, I don't want to remove it from the whole organisation which is what some technotes suggest I do.     - Newbie question - email setup?? Hi - and first I apologise for whta I'm sure is an easy question! I am setting up exchange in a test environment, and want to configure it to be able to send/receive emails, and distribute to test clients (PC Win XP/Office 2003 based). The email would be hosted via an ISP and is of type that you would normally connect to in Outlook via POP3/SMTP. I can't find anything to explain how I do this! Is it possible to setup a specific hosted email address - eg. abc123@whatever.com and have exchange connect to and distribute this to the user? Can anyone advise a good method to use this kind of setup to test/learn exchange? Seems I can find loads of material on how to install exchange, adminsister etc. - but nothing on actually hooking it up to ISP for email etc. Thanks and hope someone can advise or point in the right direction!! My domain name registrar offers three choices for Nameservers: 1-If we are hosting with them, we leave it to default 2-If we don't have a webpage, we can use their parked DNS Servers. 3-Choose your own NS Server or NS Server of the hosting company. For right now, I just put the same Nameservers ns95.worldnic.com, ns96.worldnic.com which I am using from my old domain, which is still active, registrar. I am the one hosting my own website from my old domain. I understand Nameservers control how a domain name is resolved, translates the IP to the Domain name (I think ???). The first server is running Enterprise edition. Can the 2nd server be Standard edition, or does it have to be Enterprise edition as well.     - Maybe this is a silly question. Our company name is "abc" our website is "abc.com" or email is "name@abc.com" our domain name is "abc" we are in the process of changing all this Our company name is going to be "xyz" and our website is going to be "xyz.com" and we want to have our email become "name@xyz.com" For the next few months though we want each persons outlook email to be configured with 2 mailboxes "mail@abc.com" and "mail@xyz.com" so that it stays completely seperate until almost no one sends mail to "abc.com" anymore at which time we will remove the abc.com. What I need to know is how to add xyz.com to our exchange server so I can set up emails with xyz.com and configure everyones outlook with xyz.com.     - Address Lists Hi! I'm finishing to set up a fresh install of W2K3 Server + Exchange Server 2003 SP2. I wish to set up a list of external addresses (not belonging to the AD) which will be accessible to the Exchange users from their Outlook 2003 clients. Read/write rights need to be applied to his list. I did it by putting the addresses in a specific Public Folder accessible from Outlook (under the Exchange System Attendant). I have three questions: 1. Is it the best practice to do that? The Address lists and Global Address Lists drill-down of the Exchange System Attendant seems to me more appropriate, but I am not sure it is possble... 2. I did apply the rights to the AD users (Reviewer, Author, etc.) but it doesn't work. The Users with the "only" Read right can still modify, delete, etc., the adresses in the list. What are the Default and Anonymous (visible in the drop list when you set the rights) used for? Can I delete them or set them with None right? 3. To make the new List visible in Outlook, I need to go on each Outlook client and check the Show as an address book check-box in the Properties of the list. Not very convenient...     - Outlook 2003 can not connect to Exchange 2003 server through VPN Hi, We have a Exchange 2003 server running on windows 2000 server. Everything is working fine (Outlook client, OWA) for LAN. The server has two NIC, one connect to LAN, another one connect to firewall with different subnet. I can ping both NIC after I established VPN connection from outside internet, also can open OWA using both NIC ip address. I updated "hosts" file on remote computer for the exchange server name and ip address translation. But, When I setup exchange server in outlook 2003 on the remote computer, type in the exchange server name and user name(User account is already in the server), shows me: "The name could not be resolved, the name could not be matched to a name in the address list".     - Authenticated SMTP Hello everyone, I am having a few problems with authenticated SMTP, I cannot get my external users to send e-mails to external domains, to relay, I have ES 2003 installed on windows 2003 box with 1 x SMTP virtual server IP 192.168.0.14 , with 1 x network card and the external IP address of the mail server being redirected to the internal ES, external users can curently send e-mails to users from the domain but to external domains , 5.5.0 errors. What be most handy is a step by step guide to achieving this, without compromising our exchange seerver. I have no control over our firewall as it is hosted and managed by our ISP, I have checked and confirmed all ports for exchange are active. If I am to create a new virtual SMTP connection what IP address do I use ie. 192.168.0.15 and if so do I have to get the firewall admins to reopen redirection to this IP ?     - Confirmation request don't arrive For calendar propouses we installed an Exchange, so , now the users use a unix server for email and Exchange for calendar, but we have the problem that when someone sends a meeting request, the other user receives it and when click accept, there is no any window of "Sending Response Now", so even the invited accepted the meeting, the originator doesn't get the confirmation.     - New domain name with new xch2003 from xch2000 A question: Currently we have the domain A.local with exchange 2000 (windows 2000 domain) I want to create the domain B.local with exchange 2003 and windows 2003 domain and migrate the old email from server A to server B. My question is - is this possible, while maintaining the integrity of the information store. I only have about 35 users so recreating the mailboxes and accounts for the new server isn't such a big deal but I want to make sure that I can move the email that is currently in the mail store to the new store without data loss and hopefully some confidence that I won't be losing my job come monday ;) .     - OWA 2003 front-end and 2000/2003 backend I presently have an exchange 2000 frontend server running on windows 2000in a administrative group. When I tried to deploy exchange 2003 frontend server I got an error saying that I will need to first upgrade the frontend server to exchange 2003. I will be upgrading that to OWA 2003. However, some of the exchange servers in my organization are 2000 and some are 2003. Once upgraded to OWA 2003, will both the accounts sitting on exchange 2000 and 2003 be available through OWA? I will also be deploying another front-end server, this time windows 2003/exchange 2003 and this will be used to support rpc-over-https on a clustered exchange 2003 back-end. I know that rpc-https will only be available to users having there exchange mailbox on the exchange 2003 system. However if an exchange 2000 user hits this box using owa, will they be redirected to the exchange 2000 server where their mailbox sit so they can retrieve mail via OWA on the second front-end server? The first one I'd like to keep in the regular subnet (e.g. 192.168.x.x), the second nic I would like to have a private data patch between the two boxes (10.x.x.x) but I'm unsure how to set this up in both boxes.     - Exchange and MX configurations I am setting up Exchange 2003 (standard) on Windows 2003 (standard) behind a pix firewall. We have a toatal of 12 users that are using a combination of webmail and pop mail with 2 different ISPs. Two of those users have laptops and 3 users are at a remote location. Everyone retrieves email from one ISP and send through two depending on thier physical location. Are these the steps I need to take? 1. Open ports 25, 80, and 443 (inbound) and point them to the Exchange Server. 2. Move my MX record late Friday to point to my external ip address ( is this enough time to be ready to go by Monday?) 3. When mail begins to flow to Exchange, make one last run on the pop accounts for each workstation. 4. Export the inbox on each workstation to a .pst file, delete the profile. 5. Move users to Exchange - Tell mobile and remote users to use OWA 6. Import the .pst from each user into Exchange via Outlook. Once I take these steps, can I then begin to configure rpc over http?     - Moving Exchange 5.5 to a new server I need to move an Exchange 5.5 installation from an old server to another; the old server is NT 4.0, the new one can be either NT 4.0 or Windows 2000. The Exchange server is the only one in the organization, it has no connectors and it isn't member of a cluster; the domain is NT 4.0 (no Active Directory). What is the best way to move it to the new hardware? - Installing NT 4.0 on the new server, making a full backup of the old server (after stopping Exchange services) and restoring it on the new one. - Installing NT 4.0 and Exchange 5.5 on the new server and moving the databases. - Installing Windows 2000 and Exchange 5.5 on the new server and moving the databases. I'd like to install Windows 2000 on the new server, since NT is no longer supported and also the hardware of the new server is quite recent (possible driver problems using NT 4.0), but I don't know the proper way of installing Exchange 5.5 on Windows 2000 and then moving the contents of an existing installation; the same is true if the new server has a fresh Exchange installation on NT 4.0. Regarding the backup solution, I don't know if it could even work. Another issue: the new server needs to have the same name and IP address of the old one. Any suggestion about this?     - OWA and User account permission Hi, I tried to setup outlook web access on exchange 2003 server. it's working fine for administrator account. Anyway, When I tried to open OWA under regual domain user name, keep popup logon windows, asked for user ID and password, even if I type in a correctly ID and password, it's still keeping ask me for loging on. After I joined the user account to administrators group, it's working fine. How to solve this problem? Is any setting wrong on ther server? Your advice will appreciated.     - Redirecting Issue.. Greetings, I am running IIS 6 (with Exchange 2003) and want to accomplish the following: Default web site should take users to a redirected website (I know how to setup redirect feature) but directories under the default should not redirect users to another site. So for instance, if default web site is installed as http://serverA, I want users to be redirected to http://serverB when they type http://serverA in the browser but if they type, http://serverA/Exchange, they should stay on serverA and not be redirected to serverB. I can get default web site to redirect to ServerB but the problem is that why I try to get to the directories under the same server, I am redirected to ServerB as well. When I made the changes for redirection (on default web site), it did ask me if child nodes (for instance, exchange, public, oma etc) should inherit (highlight and click ok option) the new settings but I did not highlight on any directories and just clicked OK (also tried clicking on cancel which should not be the case). The problem is that when I even try to manually go into the virtual directories and change configuration â??no redirect â?? A directory on this computer..â?? and click ok on it, it does not retain the settings. Am I missing anything here, any help in this regard would be highly appreciated. I have been having problems getting the e3k to route to e2k mailboxes. The e3k server can send mail out of the company but isn't accepting. The Routing groups > First Routing Group > Members, show both servers with e2k as master and e3k as member. I have setup the Exchange Server and a treo 700w to use wireless active sync
but it is not working. Whenever the user connects to the Exchange server, it
indicates that it cannot find the server.

However, when we used the Verizon active sync application installed locally
on the user laptop, he can connect. But we do not want to launch this
application everytime or leave the user logged in over night or weekends when
he is not using his computer.

I have checked everything but to no success. Do we have to have SSL
configured in order for this to work? I read that this was not a requirement
but recommendation for security.

Does someone have any suggestions?
