Hello,

We have scheduled a move of our exhcange server database from an NT4 machine
to a new Windows 2000 server following the procedure in article Q155216

We have been taking inventory of our hotfixes and at least one of them (hot
fix 81879) you cannot download. You have to contact microsoft and open up a
$245 ticket. My question is, do I need to install EVERY hotfix that is on
the previous server? I would think that some of them would not be required
if they were installed before a service pack came out that contained that fix.

Here is a list of the fixes (that apply to exchange) that we have installed
on the NT 4.0 exchange 5.5 server that we are currently running (listed under
add/remove programs)

KB841765
818709
Q289606
Q318680
Q321006
KB842436 a b and c
kb840315

Any help would be appreciated

You will want Exchange server at the same patch level. Are the ones on the
old server all post-current service pack. Didn't know there were that many.
Anyway, you do want them the same. Patch the new Exchange install to current
then service pack and post-sp fixes. Then do the same to the old server.

I bet you MS will be good about this. If you do need that particular hotfix
and explain the situation I'll bet they reverse the charge for the call.
Expecially since you know exactly what file you're after.
